I am so tired of foreigners/youtubers who come here to copy what hundreds have done before them: They all go to the same places, eat the same foods, spew out the same comments, obsessively trying to pronounce danish words (which is impossible unless you were born here) claiming that is the correct way to pronounce them and tell their viewers thats how the Danes do it and are very often not so informed as they think and end up passing on weird opinions/self-made facts about Denmark and the Danes, and I try to avoid those videos, because... well I am danish, born in Copenhagen, so I know its a load of BS.. ;-) And then you came along: with a completely new and refreshing look at my City, elegantly avoiding all the usual places and all the usual phrases and made it an exquisite treat to my hometown. Showing your viewers what Copenhagen/Denmark is also about and found some real gems, like who would have thought there was a ski-slope on top op a giant furnace. The trip through Kastellet was unique to your video as well, loved it. I used to live only 2 min walk from there and have spend a lot of time in the sun there...good memories..... I am so glad I did not skip this one.. You have captured a big part of the soul of Copenhagen. Thank You......
Thank you. Glad I managed to capture even, just a little, what a wonderful city Copenhagen really is. Your comment made me really happy. Thank you again 😀
I've been watching Copenhagen YT vids for a while as it's been on my list of places to go visit for a long time, but yours is the first that has actually made me think "I really want to go visit Copenhagen"! ♥ The ski-slope power station thingy is a definite visit. TY Ryan.
Thank you. It’s one of my most favourite cities in Europe and would absolutely recommend it. Glad the video made you wanna visit Copenhagen. There are plenty of other places I want to visit in the city (as you can imagine) so we’ll surely be back in the future:)
I am glad you enjoyed our city. A good way to see the Little Mermaid is from a canal tour boat. The tour will let you see many other interesting things. In Denmark, a hotdog consist of a sausage, a bun and condiments. A sausage alone is not a hotdog. If you want just a sausage, ask for a sausage.
Kastellet does not make much sense to people if they don't try to find a map of Copenhagen from 1860 or earlier. Kastellet was the northern point of the fortification that surrounded Copenhagen up to the mid 1850s. The lakes in Østre Anlæg Park, Botanic Garden, H.C. Ørsted Park and Tivoli are remnants of the moat that surrounded the medieval part of Copenhagen up to the mid 1850s. Ironically, only few buildings in Copenhagen are older than 1728 since the medieval part of Copenhagen suffered extensive fires in 1728, 1795 and 1807. After the fire in 1795, an addition to the building code was introduced that required all buildings to be constructed with flattended house corners where buildings faces two converging streets. This is easily seen around the medieval part of Copenhagen. The Danish standard hotdog contains a special hotdog ketchup (more grainy and spicier than normal tomato ketchup), mustard, remoulade, fried or raw onions and pickled cucumber. Tivoli Garden is actually the 3rd oldest amusement park in the world. There is an amusement park in Austria that is slightly older but none are as old as Bakken north of Copenhagen.
The reason I would give for not skipping The Little Mermaid is that there are quite a bit of things to also see around that area - like Kastellet that you also showed. There are also several statues and memorials nearby, like at 'Langelinie' a bit north of The Little Mermaid there is a memorial stone for the hospital ship Jutlandia, it's crew and hospital staff, that was Denmarks UN contribution to aid during the Korean war. Very close to that there at least used to be, and I think it is still there, another Mermaid statue that is bigger in several ways. 😆
Also a Memorial for the "Danmarks Ekspeditionen"! The tragic Expedition, intended to map the last part of North Eastern Greenland, and one of the last Great Explorations in the world! After having done its purpose and delivering the main results to another part of the Expedition, the three main members sadly died, only One later to be found at a Depot: Jørgen Brøndlund!
Tivoli is the THIRD oldest amusement park in the world! Pratter in Vienna, Austria open in 1766! Though Tivoli was the first thing to be build outside the city's ramparts. The lake in Tivoli is actually part of the old moat surrounding Copenhagen.
Christiania has for decades been the place to go buy weed, NEVER hard drugs. Though weed is still illegal here, majority of the time different governments & police has looked passed it. Yet they also tried to shut it down several times, without any luck. Last couple of years, different gangs & more violence in Christiania has caused the residents to also actively getting involved in shutting Pusher street down. & it has been for the last couple of months now.....Hope you enjoyed your time here, all the best from Denmark ❤
Thank you. It’s always good to hear from the locals and their perspective. Really enjoyed your city. It’s easily one of my favourite cities in Europe. I cannot wait to go back! 😀
Christiania was ruined in 2003, they arrested al the dealers with any integrity and left the market open to gangs, it was a deliberate attempt to creat uncertainty in the greater copenhagen area, and thus push through a bunch of liberty depriving "laws". Before 2003 it was a great place to relax and escape the humdrum of wage-slavery, now it is a rich enclave owned and ruled by the cultural elites.
Honestly, talking of small statues, I have been to Brussels and have watched "Manneken Piss" by the Grand Place, so don't complain about small statues! Our Mermaid is huge in comparison!
@@RyanPelle And she has also been travelling, as she visited an Exhibition in China some years ago, in the Danish Pavillion! How far did The Statue of Liberty travel, or any other Statue around?
Nah! Can´t speak for the other Scandinavian Countries, but Copenhagen (not fond of Braggers) has never claimed to be the "Capitol" of Scandinavia. We´re perfectly fine with just being the Capitol of Denmark 🇩🇰 😊 ! Finally a visitor who understands that when something is called little, that's probably what to expect (like the little mermaid - only 4ft from fin to head). Maybe one of the smallest landmarks in the world ! So called "Freetown Christiana" is BS. There autonomy is limited to some laws about building a house or a legal business. They pay taxes, as everyone else, to the City and the State. A! The Police do NOT look the other way, when it comes to selling weed, Hash (Christiana has never allowed hard drugs) . Christiana is raided often by Danish Police and the illegal Weed + shops are torn down. Christiana is tolerated to a limit, and they know this and avoid going to far. They've never been more self Governing than the City would allow 🤣 ! By the time of me writing this, the "Christiana-nites" have shut down "Pusher Street" ! Christiana wanted the gangs operating the Weed and Hash market out, due to the amount of violence and the Police raids that followed. Ryan ! You did some really good and precise research about CPH 👍😍👍! Not often the case when You Tubers visit 🙄 ! Some even confuse Danes with the Dutch 😔!!! Anyway! Big Fan of your VLOG ! ❤it !
Thank you for fact checking some of the things I mentioned in the video. Sadly, I can only rely on what I could find on the internet. Can’t afford a research team, just yet 😝 Love Copenhagen and I cannot wait to visit again :)
Copenhagen haven't been the capital of Scandinavia since 1523 when Sweden said "Screw this Kalmar Union-thing! I'm on my own! And I declare war on you, Denmark!" (Denmark and Sweden have had more wars between them than any other countries in the world! Today it's all cool, though we still tease each other! ;D ).

Kudos to you for being prepared with facts about the city. And I hope you had a good experience in our lovely capital.
Thanks. I do my best 😝 Really enjoyed Copenhagen. Beautiful city and lovely people.

Strictly speaking Nyboder was not "Barracks" but small apartments for the families of sailors of the lower ranks in the Royal Danish Navy

Dyrehavsbakken or just Bakken north of Copenhagen is even older, from 1583.
Copenhagen is the best city for living.
It does look like it :)
You should visit the National Museum of Denmark and look at all the awesome Viking stuff :D
