A lot of bicycles have integrated locks situated underneath the seat stays so it is not always obvious they are locked up.

I lived there 19 years ago. Back then, bike theft was a big thing. It was very common so yeah, lock your bike in Copenhagen. Sometimes at night, vans would pull up to the big bike parking and just fill up the van, locked or not, and they would ride off with them, so chain your bike to something if you plan to park for longer time :)

Happy you enjoyed the city! However as a local i truly wish tourists wouldn’t rent bikes. Most people are not used to the rush and etiquette on the bike lanes and they cause so many accidents… It’s a super walkable city and its okay to just watch the cyclists if you’re not used to that cycling culture!

Next time check out CopenHill which is a waste facility plant with a year-round ski slope on the roof. Take the elevator up, and walk down - then you get the full experience. It's quite close to Reffen, so it makes a lot of sense to combine the two. Rent a bike, also. It makes a lot of sense to get around by bike. You can also check out Absalon CPH which is a former church turned into a community hang-out place. They serve food, coffee, sodas, beers, wine, and you can play ping-pong and hang out.

    "Nyhavn" pronounced "Newhown" 😊 !
Denmark is safe unless you are a bike😒! Unfortunately, bicycle theft is huge here 😒! All bikes here are sold with a basic lock! They are metal, black and circular and set on the rear wheel. They open with either code or key. They are insurance required !
Christiania" is a hippie town. Tourists visit it because they think it's antonymous! It's not! Police still raid them often! Due to "Pusher Street".
Christiana is subject to the same laws as the rest of the country! So pot and drugs aren't legal there either!
It is a fine experiment where you see many forms of housing and ways of life if you move further into the surrounding area! Recommend that !
Good Vegan and vegetarian eateries I hear! Probably reasonably priced 😊
Pusher Street was initially about the hippies being able to smoke some hash/weed!
Today, Pusher Street is controlled by criminal gangs who just want to sell there weed and hashish! Even the Christanites want to get rid of them.

Many Danish bicycles have a locking mechanism built into the frame just above the back wheel/under the seat. It immobilizes the bike by sending a bolt around the tire between the spokes. The bike can still be carried away but as Danish commuter bikes are clunky and heavy... this style of un-fancy bike has no black market value to speak of.
