    Little tip for anyone looking into getting their first e-file: Don’t waste your time and money on getting a cheap “starter” e-file! Especially if u plan on upgrading eventually. Just get a high quality one right out of the gate. It will make learning and practicing soooo much easier and potentially less scary😅!! I’ve heard great things about Erica’s ATA (and also Young Nails of course!), I personally have the Medicool Pro Power 35k portable and I really love how smooth it is! Ok that was a lot, props to anyone who actually reads all this😂❤️❤️❤️

      My first file was a $20 one from Amazon and while it was a tiny bit better than hand filing, it was AWFUL. I am now using a $60 one and recently got a chance to use a $300 one, all I can say is WOW. While I have goals of someday becoming a nail tech I am currently just buying products for my own use, and having spent what I have on cheap items, if I were a licensed nail tech looking for my first file I HIGHLY recommend getting the absolute best you can afford. You will end up doing so anyway, as I have just as a consumer/DIY person. This advice is spot on.

      I had the opposite experience. As I just posted TO GET one from Amazon because it helped me learn how to NOT hurt myself. Once I figured that out on my crappy one - I felt better about investing in a higher quality one. But that was my experience so🤷‍♀️

    Friendly reminder that as long as you stay in one system you can usually mix gel polishes. If you need that one specific shade of pastel blue once mix it. Need it more often, buy it to save the time.

    Brushes, got to get a kolinsky sable acrylic brush. More than one. Gel brushes can be synthetic. A stamping kit if you aren't already good at art. Art brushes. A practice hand or finger. Good ring light to see and take photos. Lots of drill bits.

    I bought about 100 colours as I started and it's one of my bigger regrets. I have been doing it for a year (with a pretty big clientele) and some colours still have NOT been used.
    Jelly polishes are a must. They can make a collection of 20 polishes turn into a arsenal of about 80 colours !

    Funny thing- I was just saying to my coworker that I hate the dust collector sound! I refuse to have one because the noise ..uugghh...Even my e-file will sometimes get on my nerves! Lol.
    As far as affordable e-files- I started out with ones on Amazon because they are fairly reasonable and just like my acrylic brush - I didn't want an expensive one until I became confident that I wouldn't ruin it. Amazing nail supplies aren't cheap. I started with lower quality products because I knew I would waste a lot from practicing all day everyday or in between clients. Now that I am getting more confident I am investing in higher quality and BOY what a difference! There's my speech for the day!😆

    I use an efile and a dust collector. My skin is sensitive to the texture of the dust. It goes through my clothes and make my entire front itch until I shower. So now I take a thin bath towel and wrap it snuggly around my neck and clip it with a binder clip. And of course a mask. I use what I have.

    What should we look for in a lamp? Wattage and things like that. I got a £120 lamp from my local nail supply store and then a £18 one from amazon and they‘re both LED and both cure every gel polish brand I use. I know some cheap ones don’t completely cure all brands but how do we tell which ones don’t and are any actually worth the more expensive prices? 🤔😊😊

    What is your ideal wattage for a UV lamp? Also what's too little of wattage or too much if possible?

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our UV/LED lamp is 48 watts and will cure all of the products we sell. Generally speaking, this will cure most products, but since we don't test our light with other brands, we can't guarantee that. Every product line is different and may require a different lamp, so the right wattage may depend on the product you use.

    I have an e file from Amazon and I’m wondering if that is why I struggle with it. (Or it could be that I’m trying to learn from videos and I learn best in person) but I’m afraid to upgrade when I’m not feeling ready to start taking clients yet

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be the efile or you might just need more practice to get comfortable using it. We recommend practicing on a trainer hand until you at least feel comfortable holding and maneuvering the hand piece. Once you are comfortable, start practicing on yourself. This way you can feel the right amount of pressure and speed. When you feel comfortable working on yourself, just transfer these techniques to other people.

      Choosing a technician chair or client chair is going to be different for every technician since we all have different size/shape/height of tables. If you are concerned about your client moving or leaning back, you may want to look for a chair that does not have wheels or tilts back.
