    Hey Darren did you get a new camera? This video was so crisp and clean,very HD! I think this is my favorite video of yours!
    I love seeing your family! I really like that you tell us how much things cost! All that wonderful looking food is so much cheaper than here in America! Gosh I want to go there so badddddddd lol! I look forward to your video every week!

      +Colleen Kubricht Thanks, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video so much, but no, it's the same camera. Yes, the food here is very well priced, which I'm very grateful for ;). Thailand is a great country to visit, it's a beautiful place with friendly people and as you can see, the food is amazing! Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Just fascinating! The choices of what to eat make my head spin! I really like your comments about the different types of foods--makes me want to try damn near everything. When I was in Izmir, Turkey in 1975 there were open markets and some kinds of street food....but nothing at all like Thailand. Really good video--thanks!

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +sped17373 Yes, there are certainly lots of choices for food here in Thailand, and they taste amazing usually! I'm glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for commenting!

  • @MsDreamcakes
    @MsDreamcakes 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Oh wow everything looked sooo good Darren! It's so inexpensive, it would be extremely expensive here to eat like that!

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MsDreamcakes Yes, there were lots of tasty foods there, it was a great market! And yes, it is pretty affordable for most, especially if you're from overseas. A lot of Thai people still earn 300 baht per day ($8.37 US at the current exchange rate), if you're earning that, what we bought there was worth about a day's work.

    • @MsDreamcakes
      @MsDreamcakes 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      darrenb3 Oh my gosh! That is crazy to us to think people can survive on so little. Everything must be very inexpensive if they can survive on so little? Gosh that wouldn't buy the food for one home cooked meal here much less pay any household bills or car payments or mortgage. Wow! Our water bill alone is 100.00 per month. Now I'm curious about what stuff like that costs there! I know you are a teacher there, how does the salary for that compare to what you would earn back home in Australia?

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +MsDreamcakes Yes, in general most things are inexpensive here. Many people do live hand to mouth though, as when you're earning that kind of money you can't save a lot. Cars are the same price here as anywhere else, hence the popularity of motor scooters. Similarly many electrical items like phones, computers, TVs, etc are the same price as in other countries. A typical 2 bedroom, 2 story house, on 100 square metres of land in my area would cost you about $70,000 US. Many things are much cheaper, my water bill is about $5 US per month. My power bill is about $23 per month. Labor is also much cheaper. There is no comparison between earning here vs earning in Australia, at the current exchange rate I earn about $780 US per month, in my second year in the job, and after a pay rise/bonus for my performance last year. I'm probably not going to be holidaying in the US any time soon, lucky I like it here :)

    man, the mushroom soup?!... I love the mellow atmosphere around those markets! of course, Darren, as always a few questions please? (by the way, thank you for the bread explanation). is the "floating market" term basically used as a marketing tool, or is there a planned purpose, and secondly, I don't notice cheeses? is there a reason? thanks, as always, a very educational vid. I love them! Chris.

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michigan Mister Yes, I love the atmosphere of the markets here too .. I seem to end up at a market nearly every day. I'm not really sure about the "floating market" term. It may come from long ago when the market was a true floating market, with vendors selling everything from boats. The history of the market may go back that far, I don't know. There are floating markets like that still in Thailand, some are for tourists, but I believe there are genuine ones too. This area isn't touristy at all, so I doubt that it's name is for marketing. Like bread, cheese isn't really a traditional Thai food and most of my Thai friends don't seem to like cheese, except on pizza. It is available in all the supermarkets though and one of the types of sausages sold everywhere here does have a melted cheese centre. I enjoy eating that type of sausage, but it seems that it's mainly popular with kids. Glad you're enjoying the vids!

    Great video Darren,
    question for you: i see all the vendors are wearing same type of shirt what is the reason.

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Muki M.K. Thanks! I don't know for sure, but I think the shirts are probably the market management's way of ensuring everyone dresses appropriately. It's probably also good advertising for the market.
