- Planned this 'escape' a while back (with no idea it would become a bit of a real escape...) Now, decided to stay put on this coast with plenty of space, plus miles of beaches and ntnl parks all around. Part 1 begins with a flight from Bangkok and a night in Surat Thani City (which turns out to be WELL worth a stay btw!) Plus MUCH more to follow in this series! Hope you enjoy & take good care all. Another great video. Thx. I was in ST 3 weeks ago, on my way from Koh Phangan to Bangkok. Next time I'll definitely visit Khanom. ... Plz check your exchange rates....100 baht is 27 SEK, not 37 SEK (buss ticket price).

Great video, Thanks. I have to check out the area if and when I get back there. I can’t believe the price of the flights from Bangkok. When I flew with my girl to Ao Nang, it was like $60 round trip each. That’s like flying from Phoenix (where I am) to Las Vegas for that price. Good deal.

This looks absolutely pre covid. So I am confused by all the doom and gloom and shutdowns in resr of Thailand. Was it the same there after the latest virus surge?
Hi Robert, this was pre-Songkran and pre-3rd wave, just! As stated in the airport scene, I travelled South a day before the current wave was reported. Wouldn't have gone had I known but grateful to be here with loads of space, miles of beach and few people about. More vids and updates to follow. Take care all

Thanks JD. Where I'm currently at, there's few folks around and miles of white sand, secluded coves + endless places to explore. Could also head up into one of the many ntnl park and mountains around here. In fact, doing that today! (vids to follow;) Stay well all.

So Surat Thani is almost as good as Samui?
Both are fantastic destinations. Love Samui but Surat Thani is well worth a stopover and if you like beaches, some of the best in Thailand are just South of Surat Thani on the mainland (vids to follow)

I was worried it would be too noisy to stay in a hotel right on the main busy street. Nice and quiet.
Reviews said some rooms were noisy but mine was very quiet. Loved the location of this hotel too, can walk everywhere

This was the weekend before 3rd wave in Bangkok was announced and at a time when there were zero cases for months. Now all pubs are closed and must wear masks any time one is out anywhere.
I don't recall ever enjoying time spent at BKK, but the beginning of this video makes me know I'll treasure every moment next time.

@@SideTripLife Actually I just meant the airport, and was too lazy to look up the correct spelling for Suvarnabhumi so used the designator BKK. As far as the city is concerned, I absolutely love it and have spent many a day walking around exploring, including one day I walked over 30km! I love to run in Bang Kachao ... the hotter the better. I'll give this video you linked a look. I have stayed at the Sheraton on the riverside a few times and done a fair bit of exploring in the area.

My wife and I stayed in Surat Thani for two nights last year, pretty close to where you stayed. The town has a nice vibe.

Hello Robnoi, hope London's looking up! Surat Thani is about 450 kms from Hua Hin, which translates as an approx 6 hr drive (longer by train but can get a sleeper overnight). If it were me with say a month, would rent a cheap car (or bike) and stop at Prachuap Khiri Khan, Baan Grud/Krut, Bang Saphan Yai/Noi, Chumpon and every place in between as that entire coast is an absolute gem! (+ the BEST part, where I'm at now - vids to follow:)

Is there quarantine now?
Should have stated I'm a Canadian expat living in Bangkok so was already here (gratefully too I might add). Quarantine is still in effect for overseas arrivals currently and unfortunately we've also just had a 3rd wave outbreak. For the record, I planned this trip a while ago and travelled South a day before the current wave was reported. H Eddie, Harbourfront Hotel, paid 600, in 'normal' times from 800+ depending on room. Will try to check out famous eateries but usually I seek out small out of the way places ;)

Any golf courses nearby?
In Surat Thani town a nice lil 9 holer Vibhavadi-Rangsit Golf Course and further afield toward beautiful Khao Sok is stunning Rajjaprabha Dam Golf Course. There may be others but those are 2 I know of.

always making a mad dash to catch a ferry to the islands but will definitely consider staying a couple of nights when i'm in Surat Thani again. be nice to take it easy & not chasing time.
