Congrats to King Charles! To hear him say those prayers…really profound! As usual, the Brits know how to pull off these massive ceremonies better than ANY other country and without ANY visible hitches! As an American 🇺🇸, I stand amazed! And the British strength of choral music…we see the best of it here…some of it I’ve sung in my own church choirs. And the male soloist….wow!…I’d say the organizers deserve an award. But I’m sure that would not be done, and considered “bad form,” since “it’s just their job” with tightly regulated know-how and proper protocol passed down through the ages. Plus, I can only imagine the layers of unseen security required. 😎. This is what I call “must see TV” on a historic level.

At previous Coronations there was a Royal Gallery built just behind where the King and Queens Chairs of Estate were and the Royal Family could witness the moment of crowning. This time, due to the change in seating the only member of the Royal Family apart from Queen Camilla to witness the moment of Coronation was the future King George VII who was stood near his Grandfather as a Page of Honour. 👑🇬🇧🏴

Very true. The wooden screen on the right hand side of the coronation theatre, behind the table where there was a lot of metalwork on display (was that part of the coronation regalia too?), used to be removed so that a royal gallery behind it would have a view.

Also, the Coronation Chair was too far forward towards the altar by several feet. It should have been behind the central roundel of the cosmati pavement, leaving the roundel visible (though it might have been coveed by the carpeted steps). There is a relatively recent painting of the late Queen in Westminster Abbey. She is shown wearing her parliamentary robes and standing on the exact spot where King Edward's Chair should have been placed.
They got it right in 1953, even though the pavement was covered by carpet on that occasion.
The King's crowning would have been just a shade more visible to the people in the front rows of the transepts.
This point was mentioned by the historian David Starkey. Allen Barton who has many interesting historical videos on TH-cam said the same thing.

The choir singing Zadok the Priest was magnificent. I felt the same chills listening to the same piece when watching footage of The Queen's coronation. The Archbishop's whiney voice was a blight on an otherwise fantastic occasion. I could only distract myself from the tinny twang by gazing at the gorgeous Major Johnny Thompson.

I feel so sad how we lost princess Diana. Princess William so supported to the King. I know Prince Harry still hurts the loss of his mother priness Diana. A great caring woman who the nation will always love and never forget King Charles.
Prince Harry is being kept in constant turmoil by his wife. It suits her purpose. Diana was a caring woman who had her faults as all humans do but she loved the monarchy. She would be proud of William.

Yes, it was a horrible way to die. But it was 26 years ago and it's really time to move on and let her rest. She wouldn't want the mawkish memorising. She had faults, many, like anyone. And, as with most marriages that fail, there were faults on both sides. Remember the other two marriages that she was instrumental in breaking up. What about sympathy for Mrs Will Carling and Mrs Oliver Hoare? At the end of her life she hoped that Charles and Camilla would be happy.

Our republican snowflakes are in the minority. Nobody who has actually looked up the job and role of the monarch would want them gone. We would lose far more than we gained. Hereditary positions have a unique way of creating strong lasting ties simply BECAUSE they cannot be voted out. They have a lifelong commitment and duty and spend their lives training for it. With complete neutrality they can devote all their time to building bonds, fostering unity and helping bring people together.
These are not things any elected head of state is able to do simply by their nature. Politicians will ALWAYS divide someone somewhere. With this system we have a force above and beyond government that also keeps an eye on them and can - as the Australia constitutional crisis showed - fire prime ministers and force re-elections.
The system is set up far better than people give it credit for, and people wil shout 'why doesn't the king stop the gov doing XYZ' and the simple answer is the moment he did those same people would chastise this 'unelected monarch' getting involved in elected government.
The monarch needs a d4mn good reason to do that. A law that a few people don't like is not a good enough reason. It must be a reason that both the people and the majority of both sides of parliment feel is simply wrong. For example, if a prime minister refuses to step down (I think the queen had more to do with truss' resignation that we are lead to believe, a quite word might have nudged her in the right direction).
I look at America, at France, at Russia, at all these other republican states and cannot find a single one (with the possible exeption of Gemrany) that makes me think ending the monarchy is a good idea. The only reason Gemrany is an exeption is their past has forced their hand.
A Neutral head of state who can foster friendly but unofficial relations is always better than a controvertial elected one. The Queen had spent 70 years building bridges to the point that not only did Kim Jong Un send her private congratulations on her jubilee, but Putin expressed regret at her passing, calling her 'a strong leader'.
These are the advantages that we don;t see to a hereditary monarchy. No president could fathom that kind of respect from both east and west.
