INITIAL REVIEW OF THE BETAFPV CETUS X | Is it a true beginner FPV drone?..

- We have yet another drone sent to us by the fine folks at @BETAFPVHobby -- this time it's their beginner FPV drone, the Cetus X. This is probably a drone you have seen before if you have ever been interested in FPV flying and is regarded as one of the best "my-first-FPV-drone" solutions on the market.
Is this really the case or is it a clever bit of marketing from a drone company that wants to push customers down their sales funnel?
I team up with FPV pro, @SamKarpFPV to fly the BETAFPV Cetus X and form some initial opinions on the drone and its billing as the perfect entry-level FPV drone for beginners.
Let's fly the Cetus X, Let's Talk Drones!

For anyone new
If you use the auto scan on your goggles, move the quad away from the goggles. It makes finding the right channel easier for the goggles. If you have bad range after auto scan, thats why
Great first impressions on the BetaFPV Cetus X! It sounds like a great option for new pilots looking to get into the hobby
thank you for starting tips, after 30h in sim im looking to step the game up, and buy the Cetus X, cheers!
I have this kit for some time now (as a complete noob), and it's so much fun :)
I replaced the VTX antenna and the goggles antenna with better models, so the image is more stable now. To avoid overheating the VTX (which happens frequently when you are tinkering with settings and the drone is sitting around) I programmed the AUX4 switch with VTX pit mode. Works great. The standard gimbals are somewhat cheap potentiometer models that begun getting jittery, so I replaced them with hall gimbals from Betafpv. But otherwise a great beginner kit, I think. Still fighting the learning curve 🤪
Is there any chance you could create a video about your upgrades or something, for those of us who don't understand the thing? 😀
I took all the information from other TH-cam videos. Just search a bit around here, with wording like "Cetus X antenna upgrade" or "Literadio 3 gimbal replacement". Have fun!
Analog seems very rough to get used to from a visual perspective but besides that, it looks really fun! Great video guys!👏🏾🤙🏾
the cetus has the worst analog cam
and you cant connect the cetus to betaflight so no tuning possible
i wouldnt recommand that thing
mobula7 or tinyhawk 3 are way better
i know of 2 people that had that set and both their controllers had broken gimbals within 4 weeks
mobula 7 + radiomaster pocket + skyzone cobra lite or sd and you got a way better starter kit maybe a vifly whoopstor for charging and some gnb 1s 660mAh lipos with it
@@bluefpv3263 I was in BetaFlight with it over the past 3 days. Tuning rates and everything. Able to reprogram your modes sliders for the controller too. After looking at their website, it looks like they now have two configurations for the Cetus's flight controller -- the Cetus FC and the BetaFlight FC. I'm thinking the BetaFlight FC is a new option for it and that I likely have this version because, again, I'm able to reconfigure everything about this Cetus X via BetaFlight.
@@TheDroneGeek ah so you got the newer better version
thats a upgrade at least
Cetus' are sick rigs I like them. For sure their max operable range/fully hacked with the 2 onboard batteries in series is 1/2 mile. It's not hard to get the video and control signals further, but that's max out/back you're getting off those two 1 s batteries
Dang, those guys are pretty handsome
The vtx power comes out of the box at 100 mw so you need to change it to 400 mw and you can go pretty far with it
How do you do this ? Thxxx
Mine shipped at 25mW (Sept 2024).
@@NickMooresame
@@NickMoore Yep same here. Just changed it to 400 and it made a pretty sizable difference
I got mine today. set it up and turned it on followed the beginner steps. I gently push the throttle up to gain a few inches off the floor. my question is, is it supposed to bounce up and down, harder and harder? because that's what mine does. I cannot get it to hover for anything. isn't hover supposed to be automatic on the Angle mode? I mean I have it on the lowest settings as the instructions say. and it won't hover, just bounces. then every once in a while, I actually fly it across the room and all of a sudden it goes crazy and screams full throttle and shoots up and hits my ceiling! should I send it back?
When you got it was it in reverse?
@@Ajdagoat. LOL, HUH?
I used my controller with the simulator, you don’t turn it on it runs off the power of the computer.
That makes sense since the battery is internal and the controller charges via USB-C! Good to know that it works with the simulator too!
Newbie question - Would the video be any better with a different brand of goggles?
Good question! Maybe, but it’d be a negligible improvement if anything. When you’re dealing with analog video, you kind of get what you get - not a ton you can do to clear it up.
@TheDroneGeek Thank you very much for the answer. I enjoy your videos. Will subscribe.
The guy on the left sounds exactly like LaDrib
🤣🤣🤣
@@TheDroneGeek tell me if I hear it too everybody
I have had 3 of them. Not a fan of their vtx at all. I like the meteors better. I have had several vtx burn outs. With both. Fun though.
I'll have to keep an eye on the burnout issue...that's good to know, albeit disappointing to hear. The analog VTX is a HUGE step backwards for me personally because I learned on and mostly fly digital VTXs...you can imagine how jarring this is for me...but the drone itself is a ton of fun to fly, so it cancels some of that shock out! xD
What are you even doing to burn out three vtx’s?
@@Jacob0481 cranking up the power on beta flight and bumping into shit for 1. One over heated.
Why do you seem so satisfied with the image quality? .. "you get a little bit of distortion"..
What you get is a glimpse of the image through a thick layer of distortion.
Now I'm back looking at more expensive stuff.. thanks for showing how bad it is so we don't have to take your word for it.
❤️
Tell us you know jackshit about analog without telling us you know jackshit about analog.
@@TheDroneGeekI agree I thought it went pretty far before the signal got weaker
