My former neighbour is an Adventist pastor. I was invited to a video presentation at their church. During our weekly drives, we had plenty of time to chat. I have never met a kinder, more humble and knowledgeable family. He has something nice to say about every denomination and is very well read about so many aspects of theology. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Well... look at this... "we suppose that the Antichrist, the head of all these men, is the Pope of Rome" -John Wycliffe(former Catholic Priest/Reformer/Protestant), Foxes Book of Martyrs, p.90 "The Pope is... the true Antichrist, of whom it is written, that he sitteth in the temple of God,among the people where Christ is worshipped... " -John Huss(former Catholic Priest/Reformer/Protestant)(1372-1415) "The vicar is in the place of an a sent chief,-what is such a vicar but Antichrist. @@ChapP2811 All of those comments are true. The SDA Church is not exclusive to that idea, but carries the torch in teaching about that system of the Catholic Church being the beastly power controlled by the Popes and ultimately by demonic angels. The RCC states that tradition holds priority over the scriptures. Isn't that just dandy?! We are to follow God's Law rather than man's laws and requirements. God does not force His way upon us, while the RCC does.
@@ChapP2811 All of which sums to a big, giant, tradition, and I have no more mandate to agree with the affirmation of a consensus of certain heroes of the faith on the full nature of the Catholic Church than I do the gentleman at the table next to me at Applebees, unless I am persuaded by Scripture and sound logic. And while I can see enough to convince me that the Catholic Church is likely in error, I have yet to see one appeal to Scripture for it's 'plain idolotry( judged by it's own doctrine, across history and at present) or 'anti-christian' nature that doesn't reduce to the world's biggest round of 'Is not! Is too! Uh uh! Uh huh!', ad infinitim. Plenty that can be easily turned to sin, but nothing( including veneration of Mary and the Saints) that is plainly, openly, by it's own reasoning and claims, the thing itself. Even we non Catholics believe that God works not only for others but in us through our prayers. Catholicism, as far as I can tell, merely differs in being a sort of Armenianism with special claims. The heat of the argument stems from a time in Church history when God might frankly have said to the Church/es 'You have the reputation of being righteous, but are not. I council you to preserve what little remains'; Protestants argued against each other with scarcely less heat than against the Catholic Church itself. Leave it in the past.
Matt, it was great to spend some time talking faith with you and showing you around Pleasant Valley Church. I love the way you approach these interviews with a brotherly spirit and honest questions! It's obvious that you pour your heart into making these conversations and this channel great, and I respect that! Come visit again and we'll get out to the river for some fly fishing. Greg
Hey Matt! Love your channel! Thank you for always listening respectfully--your videos never get heated even when you disagree. Mad respect for you. -A Catholic
NEVER leave your faith! SDA cult thinks Pope Francis is the Antichrist. They preach and teach hate against the Vatican! Ellen G White was a false prophet just like Muhammad, Joseph Smith and others!
@@MattWhitmanTMBH just a quick reminder that the first amendment conflicts with the first commandment "thou shalt worship whoever you want" and that the declaration of human rights gives ME more rights than god. is it annoying that the satanic temple has the SAME RIGHTS as the church?
Greetings from a Seventh Day Adventist in Michigan. :) If you're reading this, I hope you're having a wonderful day, wherever you are. May God bless you all, brothers and sisters in Christ.
I'm a Seventh-day Adventist Christian. I REALLY LOVE this video. I REALLY respect how you approach the interview with love and fairness. There is so much misinformation out there about this church and I'm looking forward to the 2nd video where you guys discuss more about SDA. Thank you so much for doing this, brother :) God bless you and your ministry.
This comment made me throw up in my mouth because I know how brainwashed all of you guys are. The sunday keepers aren't coming after you in the end times my dude.
I’m an atheist that attends an episcopal church with my family. I’m generally interested in all religions and I like this guy the same reason you all do. He’s just a nice dude.
California Karen dear friend. Interesting. I found the opposite. I dug into the word and prayed for truth and came to the conclusion the that SDA is the only church that aligns with scripture.
I'm a retired Baptist Chaplain who has volunteered at an Adventist Hospital. I've enjoyed getting to know and work with the three Adventist chaplains on staff. They are some of the most open, welcoming, folks I've met. Theyl have a great sense of humor as well. By the way, I too have enjoyed some laughs with these folks with my automatic references to "Sunday School," etc. Great video.
@@srfgrn You won't hear an argument from me (a former Adventist) on that. Understanding the scope and role of Biblical covenants is really key for this. Check out the Former Adventist podcast, as they have done a thorough job examining them, and are currently working through an in depth, chapter by chapter, study of Hebrews.
I am a Adventist and I really appreciated your presentation. Your thoughtfulness and open-mindedness are a breath of fresh air coming from our extended family of protestantism. Thank-you!
I grew up in an SDA church. Although I didn’t stay in that church, I do hold a lot of respect for them and I know they have a love of the Lord and his gospel.
A SDA here: we dont eat any "unclean meat" at all, like pig or shrimp. We prefer vegetarianism, but I at least just dont go out of my way to eat meat, and just eat it once or twice a week, if someone im visiting is offering, or they serve it were I work.
Real Estate Unplugged he’ll probably ask about it in the next video, it’s a two part I think. Basically yes, they hold to many of the dietary laws still.
Big chungusnuggets69 I must say, for a person who claims that SDA’s criticize other denominations, you sir, are very critical of SDA’s. You’re doing exactly what you claim SDA’s do. This is the 3rd post I’ve seen by you criticizing the church, and I’m sure you’ve written many more. Matthew 7:3-5 (NIV) 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Real Estate Unplugged the vegetarian diet is encouraged predominantly for health reasons. Eating healthy gives you a clearer mind, and a clearer mind means a stronger relationship with God. Christ said that our bodies are temples of the Living God, thus if you want God to live there, you need a clear, sound mind. I hope this made sense. As they mentioned in the video, being a vegetarian is not a prerequisite to joining the church. It’s something people do to improve their lives and their relationship with Christ.
Adrian Pritchard lately there has been more and more research done looking at vegetarian diets as well as documentaries. Results are showing that not only is there a smaller global footprint, but if done properly, it can even reverse various diseases (not all). I’m not saying everyone needs to follow a vegetarian lifestyle. I was just trying to explain the reasons why Adventist’s encourage vegetarian diets. I know plenty of vegetarians that don’t eat balanced diets, and as a result suffer from obesity and other health complications, but if done properly, it can make a world of difference. But you’re right, it takes a lot of planning to be mindful of eating healthy, which isn’t always practical or financially doable, so I completely get it.
Hey Matt, thanks for posting this video. I've been waiting to see how it turned out after we shot it last fall. Looking forward to your edit of the sit down conversation. It was such a pleasure to meet you. God bless!
As an Adventist, I just want to thank you for making such a great video. I really appreciate you taking the time to ask questions and listen! I'm really looking forward to hearing the next part of this conversation. I've subscribed :)
Wow this is wonderful and eye opening for me especially because I have been following Justin's channel for a while but didn't know he was Adventist. Most important is getting to really know what the seven days Adventist Church is all about. This is the first video I am watching on this channel and I am loving it already. It motivates those of us who are looking forward to using social media to share the love of God Thanks.
Am really inspired by what you have been doing I think your example should be emulated by every believer to know that preaching the gospel is not about getting people to a particular church. God bless 🙏 Sir.
I was a former Roman Catholic and I became a Seventh Day Adventist. You conclusion about us is so true. We have grown mature in our theology and to be true to scriptures. Amen.
I studied into the SDA church and was baptized because they answered all my biblical questions, directly, and thoroughly and completely. Jesus IS coming back!
My life with Jesus has grown since I started into the SDA church. All my questions were answered after a whole lifetime being a Pentecostal with nothing.
I was born, raised, baptised and educated in the SDA church and I left. Found my biblical answers to my questions elsewhere. Seems like the opposite ;)
@@ArnoldGamboaPH sometimes we overlook what is right in our face. Sorry that you left but how could you leave the truth is here not anywhere else. Give me your top reason
@@mynameismanic The "truth"? :D How about the false and unbiblical, gospel-opposed teaching on the Investigative judgment, Ellen White as an "authoritative source of truth" even as being a false prophet, the false claim of being the remnant church and just basically a non-gospel orientation because of the over emphasis of the law and the Sabbath -- how about that as the "top reasons"?
As an Adventist Pastor this video was great!!! Thanks so much for doing a tour and listening to the different perspectives. Theology and interpretation is so unique, personal and interesting for everyone. So keen to hear the next part of this conversation!
I was raised in the SDA church. As I approached adulthood I found myself getting really uncomfortable with accepting Ellen G. White as a prophetess. It’s not as if I was looking for it, but in my heart I felt her prophesies weren’t God-sent. Then I started looking at her story in depth and realized I couldn’t stay in Adventism where they put so much trust in her prophesy, books, rules, etc.
Rejecting something solely based on feeling and not based on the bible is hypocrisy. Most people nowadays are rejecting the truth because of feeling.....The feeling of being uncomfortable.
I too, am a 7th Day Adventist. This video was quite fair, and asked cogent questions. I appreciate your kind spirit, but also your search for truth. Blessings on your ministry and in your personal relationship with our Lord.
Wow, this was very interesting brother, I didn't know anything about SDA but I can definitely respect any groups that study the end times especially at this late hour. 👍 Very informative.
Always refreshing to see a independent-thinking comment like yours. I converted to SDA church after a serious search for Total Truth. I'm gonna make some bold claims that I hope will challenge you to investigate further... But...my phone is bout to die... I shall return...Be blessed
They really study deeply end times prophecy much more than any church I've ever been, and I've been to at least 14 denominations in my life, and stayed at SDA and married a SDA woman. I really lovedd the SDA church and will stay. They also live long because they study a lot on taking care of your temple. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit according to the Bible. My wife's great grandmother lived to be 111, and the daughter (grandmother) is going to turn 103 in 2 weeks. God bless you in Jesus, and God loves you very much!!
The cliffhanger! I knew it was coming when you didn’t sit down with them immediately following the tour. Please please please don’t make us wait forever on part 2! Love these videos!
I really like the focus of the Good Samaritan! Showing love to a stranger without accepting anything in return is what my mom and I covered in our Bible study recently.
I was agnostic, and now I am an SDA Christian after studying with a lot of different faiths both Christian and otherwise. This is my first time watching your videos (Saw this from Justin’s post) but I really love the content and concept of this series. I’m subscribed now and looking forward to part two of this and I’ll check out some of your other visits because while I volunteer with some other denominations it’s cool to see where else God is working
@@antonralph6947 yes, we are called a cult by fringe groups.. Martin took us off that list back in the 50's. The conclusion was that while we as Adventist have heterodoxical doctrines...we ascribe to the central tenents of Christianity...basically the Nicene Creed... There are groups that lable Lutherans and Presbyterians as cults...so there you do. It's not what people call you, it's what you respond to and the works you put out. What other groups do they label as cults besides Adventists?
@Michael Heathman Again, not really defending the SDA church, but if you are referencing a book written back in 1963, then your information is extremely outdated. They had issues with salvation by faith in those days, but now it is preached wholeheartedly from their pulpits. There are some within the church that still cling too tightly to the writings of Ellen White, but as a whole, they are a denomination that believe that salvation comes by grace through faith alone.
We've gotta remember there's a war going on here people, angels and demons, fighting for influence. Remember, God said remember. Exodus 20:8 Revelation 14:12
Love it. Whoever is reading this know that God can turn any situation around trust in Him alone. You are one step closer to victory, healing and a miracle have faith in God.
I don't know about you but I starting to know more 7th Day Adventist after I gave my life to Jesus Christ Almighty 13 years ago, and let me tell you they are about the nicest Christian church people there are. I've been to many churches and know a lot of people in my life time and by far the SDA's are the best and unique-est (if there's such a word😅) every one from the youngest to oldest they show Christ Like characteristics by far hands down (No wonder it's the fastest growing protestant Christian denomination out there today🙌). Good job on the filming can't wait to see part 2 or even 3! Keep up the good work and I'll be praying for you all 🙏
I really enjoyed this! I’m evangelical but some of my close friends are SDA. We have attended their church a couple times and they have visited ours also. They are Beautiful People
You should REALLY get to know their theology, especially they're thoughts on Sunday worshipping Christians. Did your friends tell you that the church teaches them that in the last days Sunday worshipping Christians will persecute them? Did they tell you that the SDA Church teaches that worshipping on Sundays means you're worshipping a sun god?
ekwk Jesus calls all people to truth in scripture and particularly in Revelation when talking of the later days (that we are living in). Those that sincerely seek after Christ will humbly renounce any belief they have held that is against Jesus’ teaching. He freely gives grace to all of us sinners who were against him but now walk in his glorious light.
The beautiful message that SDAs proclaim is that if the three angels in Revelation 14. Worship the Creator and give him your full heart. Come out of the confusion of man-made teachings. It is time to make a choice. Jesus is coming soon❤️
Anthony Box Rev 18 is Enlarging and repeating Rev 14 pleading for the world to come out of false worship. There are laodiceans (Rev 3) for sure in every church and throughout the world and I believe we are living in that laodicean era where the world is “asleep” to Jesus’ near return. But Jesus has reserved a remnant that has not bowed a knee to Baal...of his pure virgin church ❤️. Pray that we are all part of that movement
@@alllthatinacan hi. I think I was told not to call it a movement. I don't have data or idea at the moment why! Needing God's rest before and for a study coming up soon. Love
Lmao.. The SDA is the queen of man made teachings! Where do they get that Jesus made grape juice?? Man made! How do they honor a cross, easter and Christmas? Man made! Their ignorant teachings on the two witnesses ,,, man-made!! So until the SDA turns back to God and says FU to the catholic church, they are following man.
I loved this video, I never realized how much similarity there was to Southern Baptists. We (southern Baptists) also do the congregation vote on new members. It's what I've always known. Keep up the great work!!
I just love your videos and being a Seventh day Adventist myself, I hope that you were treated with the love and respect that is portrayed off camera as you were I camera. The way I saw Jesus in the lives of the members of the SDA church and how they walked talked and treated each other is what made me want to join.
One of my college roommates was SDA, and we had so many great discussions about what each of us believed and why we believed it. It really helped cement my faith because we had to defend and explain it to someone else.
No we dont. If you don't like t the SDA church and think that way. Then look at how the Pharisees treated Jesus, called him the son of lucifer. Remember the way to help is wide and many will follow but the way to salvation is narrow and very few find it.
"At the foot of the cross everyone is equal." Well said. Interested to hear the follow up conversation and dig down into SDA. I do not know anything about it really before this.
You won't know the truth about Adventism from Adventists. Some of them are just clueless, others don't put the real story out there for public consumption.
I enjoy watching your videos because they teach me a lot to understand more about Christianity. The Lord saved me from sin and well, about a month ago, during the quarantine, I recognized him as my savior. However, I don't even know where to start or where to go, since there are THOUSANDS of denominations. Thankfully, your videos have been helping me to look at them haha.
Juan David The “problem” with all the thousands of conflicting and competing Christian sects and denominations and non-denominations is just that. Sects, denominations and non-denominations, all founded by men, not founded by Jesus. Many of these thousands of sects think they are the “one true Church”, but that just cannot be true. There is only ONE true Church. May I suggest you investigate historical Christianity (meaning from 33 A.D. to the present) from unbiased and reliable sources. EWTN’s Called to Communion hosted by Dr. David Anders, is an excellent source. May God bless you in your search for the TRUTH.
Lots of people recommend specific resources. The most simple, easy thing you can do is read about God in the Bible, help others and pray asking God where he wants you to go. He will show you the way pilgrim.
@@JuanDavid-cr1nt I agree with that advice! Part of being a Christian is recognizing that God is a real person, who does things and cares about things today, and is an active part of our lives. So if you're not sure, you can ask Him! Read James 1:5. I pray that God will guide you.
This video is so interesting for me because I have been following you for awhile Matt, and I know these people in real life, so its an interesting crossover event of different parts of my own life. I have been waiting for this ever since Kaleb told it was happening! I am super excited for the discussion videos where you guys dive into everything! Cheers!
As a former Adventist coming to this channel, I really appreciate this discussion. On the surface, Adventism appears very mainstream protestant with the exception of special priority on health and seventh-day sabbath. However, there is a lot under the surface that causes countless very messy situations between people and a bad taste resulting from a very performance-based and critical approach to church that often results in a feeling of inherent hypocrisy. There are many apparent self-contradictions in the theology. A very Arian influenced Christology while affirming the trinity. Salvation by grace through faith and not works, in contrast with investigative judgement, remnant church, sabbath-keeping as a judgement priority, and probation. Ellen White carries next to equal authority as the Bible itself, yet a complete rejection of the early church and outright anti-catholic rhetoric. (pope is anticrist). Since a major dispute in the late 1980's the Adventist church rarely discusses these matters directly and has transitioned away from the traditions that used to be so closely associated with the church without ever addressing the root of the problem. Instead in my experience, these issues are actively concealed while the undisputed protestant theology is what is made to appear forefront. I look forward to a continuation of this video, an excellent discussion as usual.
@onesinglejoy, every single SDA I have discussed why I left with, has informed me I left because I had a bad experience, and ironically, other former SDAs have had that happen to them as well. Oddly enough, I have met only a handful of formers whose leaving had anything to do with a bad experience or hurt feelings. I, as well as thousands and thousands of people who have intentionally left the SDA church have done so because we carefully studied and read our Bibles and found that their unique, core doctrines do not line up with the Bible.
@One Single Joy Thanks for your response, don't get me wrong, I know many wonderful Adventist people and the church experience is often wonderful. However, some of the very central theologies of the church can result in some very negative things when taken to its full conclusion. My critique is that the extremists are not the average Adventists, but the founders, instilling some very flawed perspectives into the very foundation of the denomination. I'm glad that so many Adventists are able to practice the faith in a positive way, but I've also seen the worst of the church manifest itself in widely varied congregations all over the United States, far more than can be considered the fringes.
I've had very bad experiences in the Adventist church, but didn't think that justified leaving. I was also advised when I left that I should not confuse problems with people with problems with the church, but that hasn't been my motivation either. Matt has done a phenomenal job on this channel of describing much of the potential issues of perspective that can skew understanding of God and the presuppositions that can influence a flawed understanding of the Bible. I came to the conclusion that you have to accept a wide variety of assumptions that can't be supported historically or biblically to arrive at the conclusions of the Adventist church. And a very real result of that is that it can really hurt people as well when put into practice completely.
@One Single Joy I have heard that Adventist tradition outside of the United States has played out differently than the more fundamentalist approach that has been slow to die in the United States. Seeing you're from the same country as the man who set much of the internal controversy into motion (Desmond Ford); who has commented that the church in Australia didn't exhibit many of the problems associated with the American church, I'd be curious as to what differences exist within the church.
@@brando3342 Not necessarily heresy though? I mean, it's probably better than some churches who stay extremely loyal to one version to the point of almost worshipping it (KJV)?
I don’t agree with that, respectfully. It’s part of the problem. There shouldn’t be King’s versions of bibles and rewriting. That’s crazy. It’s like the game of telephone. It’s not just about literal translation, it’s about intent and biases as well. We don’t want to dilute or misconstrue. Too many bible versions is separating even Evangelicals from each other.
@@moderndaydreammm I think maybe I wasn't totally clear. I was not referring to Seventh Day Adventist specifically. I was just making more of a general statement. It could be argued that Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses would be promoted under this "more Bible's the better" idea.
Hey Matt!! I just want to say I just found your videos and I believe they are a sign for me to find my way back to the Christian path. I love your videos and it makes me feel that though we have so many different ways to worship God, God is always good to the honest, the humble, and the ones always seeking truth especially people like who do this for not only your benefit but for all of your viewers! Thank you and God bless. I would really enjoy a video on Jehovahs witnesses if possible, I grew up with them but slowly moved away from them and my family. They have a bed rep nowadays but some of the people are genuine god loving people who mean well. Thanks again !
I think there can be a balance, @DiscoFalcon. You have valid points about some believers reading into every current event ... and somehow turing it into an eschatological event. Yet we still look forward to His coming, living each day as if we could die tonight. The reality being that -- biblically -- it doesn't seem as if the timing is correct for Jesus' return. So much needs to occur before that ever happens.
@DiscoFalcon The Bible is very clear about eschatology and end-times revelation: Revelation 1:1-3: "This is the revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants what must soon come to pass. He made it known by sending His angel to His servant John, who testifies to everything he saw. This is the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and obey what is written in it, because the time is near." Notice that Jesus says those "who hear and obey what is written in the words of this prophecy" are "blessed." His Word. People do get quickly get off the rails, but it does not require "a strong emphasis on eschatology." It just requires... flawed human beings. You'll find those in every religion on planet earth. Let me know if you ever find one without them. "In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy." (Acts 2:17-18). The church will have prophets in the end. They will be "focused on living gospel-centered lives" because they have a relationship with Jesus. They will be able to communicate the three angels' messages of Revelation because they know prophecy. Sounds like Seventh-Day Adventists are right where they need to be. And who is worried? ;-)
@DiscoFalcon We understand that. What we do not encourage is placing exact dates of Jesus's return to this earth, cause that's not up to us. But what we do believe is in preparation for the the end times when they are at the fullest of their power. When it comes to the doctrine of the Rapture, we believe in it, we just don't believe it'll happen in secret and before the tribulation. The tribulation for us is a time where both the church will get tested for how firm it is to stand for the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, and those who are not in full submission to God will unfortunately be on the receiving end of God's judgments as they fall on the earth. Do we still need to preach the gospel? Absolutely. But it's more what the SDA commonly refers to as the Eternal Gospel, which is found in Revelations chapter 14:6-12. We still need to preach. We still need to serve our fellow man. And most of all, we also still need to make our walk on this earth a lot closer to how Jesus carried out his life, when not speaking publicly - with prayer, diligent study, and grateful obedience to God's Law, because we were saved by Christ.
What is the gospel, @DiscoFalcon? "... Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve. Then He appeared to over 500 brothers at one time; ..." 1 Corinthians 15:3b-6a
Love that you made this, Matt, and it’s cool seeing people’s different perspectives, too. I’m SDA and while I probably have much less of a theological background than the other guys in this video, I have interviewed a few hundred of them on Humans of Adventism. Top thing to keep in mind for anyone saying “Adventists are _____”- we’re a group of people. And like any group of people there are a lot of variations in what our priorities are and how that looks in our lifestyle. You can meet an Adventist that’s die-hard into veganism, you can meet plenty of others that see it differently. It’s more like we have pockets and subcultures (like everyone else) within the umbrella of “Seventh-day Adventist.” Even the weight and authority of people like Ellen White (excited for that discussion in your next video) varies quite a bit between individual Adventists. And since our church isn’t fully a top-down structure, that’s kind of ok. That experience changes from church to church and between subcultures for sure, but there’s a pretty big variety of people that are “Seventh-day Adventist.”
Our life becomes less chaotic when we can place others in neat little boxes with perfectly squared corners. No bulging at the sides and they stack easier too! With that said, like many things in life_what you see, want to see and reality are rarely in the same zip code. And that's OK too. You nailed it friend! Godspeed.
Claudia Siesquén thank you! We’re a pretty diverse group of people once you look closely. Doesn’t discount the negative ways it’s been lived out by many Adventists, but it does mean that what you experience in one place and what you experience somewhere else can be pretty different 💁🏼♂️
Something about your videos sits really well with me. Thank you for exploring traditions that are different and sharing them. Conversations like this are very important. I would love to see a video exploring the same tradition in different locations. Coming from a Quaker background I know my tradition looks radically different in different parts of the world, yet at the core there are Truths and traditions that unite us all. Could make an interesting video! Keep doing what you're doing. It's appreciated!
2 Years old comment, but oh well. I am not in a denomination at all as a Bible believing Christian, but has spent some time in Adventist churches in different areas in my home country which is Norway. I can say that all three places I've got to attend sermons in the Adventist churches was all very based in reading and teaching the scriptures. And the Adventists which I've spoken to has all had very similar view on theology and the Bible which I've attained through long time spent reading and studying myself. They have the most Scripture based teaching I've found in churches so far, and that goes for all 3 of them. And the Bible is pretty much open and used throughout the sermons no matter which Adventist church you attend. They have their thing with Ellen G White, but never has a sermon ever been about her or any of the books. Only the Bible and Yahushua, they do go by the name Jesus Christ as usual though (well, Jesus Kristus in norwegian). Only outside of sermons in personal talk between myself and Adventists have I heard about Ellen and her books (which isn't really an occurrence that happen often). But no matter which Adventist church, or who I talked to. They all Used Ellen G White's books like any other Christian would buy a Bible Commentary to use alongside the Bible (to help study). Her writings have no authority over the Bible, and as a non Adventist which has spent much time in their churches. I am quite sure they all will agree on that statement. I am open for corrections though. I went to the net. "Cult this, cult that". Much because of old time history and the great disappointment when the Adventist Church predicted a time for the second coming which didn't happen. But should someone really be stapled something such vile just because what happened a long time ago? And what I've read and heard that disappointment really pushed forward the Adventists to study scriptures even more, also together with other denominations. It seems it humbled the church a lot, and it clearly shows today in their teachings. Their theology is really sound and rooted deeply in letting the Bible interpret the Bible. Has there been trouble up the years because of the view that sunday keepers where commandment breakers who risked receiving the mark of the beast back in the 1800's. Yes, definitely has. Wasn't a nice view to have, while Evangelicals on the other side threw back that Adventist was a cult. And looks like that label has stuck still to this day at some degree. Do Adventist still hold the view that those who worship on sunday and do not keep the sabbath are not saved and can not enter God's kingdom? So far all the Adventists I've spoken to do not hold that view now in the 20's century. Mostly in the conversations the most popular view is that there a people in all churches that God can use or do use for special purposes, and also other churches that take great part in building up the kingdom. This is just an observation from a Bible Believing Christian without a Denomination, that also do keep the Sabbath at the best of his ability. (Job at a store is such a bummer, every second Saturday...Bah). Do the Adventist churches to this day deserve to be put into the category of cult? in my personal opinion, no. Neither do I think they even deserved it back at the 1800's, but I need to read more before I can come to a firm 100% conclusion about the older time Adventist church.
I like the video as a Seventh Day Adventist I appreciated your approach to introducing us to others. I like that you're reflex to take your cap off when you entered the sanctuary. Also I wanted you to know that I found you through No Dumb Questions and a larger part through Smarter Every Day.
This is going to be interesting. This was really a soft introduction to Adventism. We as the Seventh-day Adventist Church have an amalgamation of doctrinal belifes that are borrowed from older Protestant denominations stretching all the way back to the 1st century church. Depending on how deep this next sectiongoes, you'll see things that from Calvinism, Lutheranism, and Arminian/Weslyan. We are not the only church that keeps the Sabbath, we are just the largest Protestant group to do this. To a lesser degree the Ethiopian Orthodox Church still retains Sabbath and is larger with about double the membership with over 40million adherents, and even some Catholic congregations have Saturday Mass along with some Protestant groups starting to have services on Saturday and Sunday, or coming to the conclusion that no day is inherentlhy sacred. But to break it down Adventism has only two unique doctrines that deal with eschatology(as Matt mentioned at the end). These doctrines are the investigative judgement and the Heavenly Sanctuary. Other doctrines are found in other denomination to lesser or greater degrees, even if they aren't popular, like the state of the dead, dietary restrictions, dress reform and more. There are few teachings held exclusively by Seventh-day Adventists, but the denomination does have a number of distinctive doctrines which differentiate it from other Christian churches. Some of their views which differ from most Christian churches include: the perpetuity of the seventh-day Sabbath, the unconsciousness of man in death, conditional immortality, an atoning ministry of Jesus Christ in the heavenly sanctuary, and an “investigative judgment” that commenced in 1844. Furthermore, a traditionally historicist approach to prophecy has led Adventists to develop a unique system of eschatological beliefs which incorporates a commandment-keeping "remnant", a universal end-time crisis revolving around the law of God, and the visible return of Jesus Christ prior to a millennial reign of believers in heaven. There are some variations with individual people... the Traditionalists, Historical and Progressives. We also have a strong emphasis on health and education which is why we have the largest Protestant based School and Hospital system in the world. It's interesting that Matt when to Oregon which is one of the few states that has an Adventist population of over or near 1% SDA(Seventh-day Adventist) population.
I thought very similar things, the doctrinal and historical aspects of Adventism that I find most interesting got very little attention, which is fine for a quick introduction but make it seem like it’s just a Protestant church that worships on Saturday. I think it’s much closer to the Restorationist branch of Christianity that most people don’t have much understanding of.
@@nathangale7702 that's part two. He lists us as a restoration movement.... almost all American founded denominations are restoration. Latter Day Saints, Jehovah's Witnesses(offshoots of Adventism), Christian Science, Pentecostal, Holliness...we all claim to be returned to the original gospel from the first centuries... We Adventists to be blunt did a makeover around the 50s and 70s to make is more PALATABLE to the general public. Some members liked it some didn't. But the doctrines didn't radically change so it's not proper to say we had a schism or anything. My family came in during the early 70s...so I missed most of these issues that didn't readily effect me...
Keonny77 yeah, that’s the sense I was getting from these Oregon Adventists. When I lived in Mexico, I had a lot of conversations with more conservative Adventists that really emphasized Emma White’s teachings and doctrinal things like the dead “sleeping” until the resurrection. I still have a copy of El Conflicto de los Siglos that one gave me. Like I said, I found that style of Adventism much more interesting.
One of the big things that has to confuse those outside the SDA church is the personal opinions of so many SDAs. They seem to be all over the theological map-and there’s a reason for this. Back in 1979/80, Desmond Ford and Robert Brinsmead were theologians/pastors who said that some SDA theology was wrong. And during the 1980’s, a growing movement of discontent began. There was a desire to damp down the use of EGW, to push aside the anti Catholic stance, to change to a contemporary Evangelical style of worship. And thirty years ago it happened when Celebration Center opened in Colton with a contemporary service with electric guitars, drums, words projected onto a screen and barely an EGW word mentioned. And the movement spread all over North America. So, today, even sometimes in one town you can have a liberal congregation that is very different in practice and theological emphasis from the conservative congregation also in town. So, you wind up with liberal Adventist’s claiming they don’t believe in EGW as authority, Bible only etc. And then you have the conservatives that absolutely reject those liberal viewpoints. A good example of this split is women’s ordination. The Pacific Union conference allows, against the wishes of the world church, the ordination of women as pastors. Churches within that union do have ‘ordained’ pastors whose ordination is not recognized by the world church (the General Conference). The world church has threatened disciplinary action for these ordinations, but hasn’t carried it out. So, you have a very schizophrenic church with members often giving their personal opinion and not the actual doctrine of the world church.
Revelation 12 tells us the dragon makes war with the remnant of her seed. War isn’t pretty. The SDA church is attacked from within and without. A remnant of God’s people makes it through by His grace.
I worked 13 years for a very large and well known company in Tennessee which was owned by a SDA family. The plants completely closed from 1 hr before sundown on Friday to 1 hr after sundown on Saturday so a HUGE magnet for SDA employees.Probably the most generous and caring company and people I have ever been associated with. My big contention with the religion is that they used Ellen G White's writings as "interpretations" of the Bible. If she said a passage meant something that was final.
Ellen White points people to the Bible as the foundation of faith, not her writings. I do not blindly go along with all that she wrote when or if I see it is just her ideas and not from inspiration, unlike some who take everything she wrote as gospel.
It is widely known in Adventism that she does not interpret scripture. However it is known that she was given an ability by God to magnify scripture. 😎😎
Catholic here, love these videos. The SDAs have a "history" of anti-catholicism, but as far as I know it is the healthiest - a theological debate. All the SDAs I know are very warm, very lovely, most of them black actually here in the UK at least the ones I've met. It means we get on that bit better when it comes to music. Lovely to see this exchange and it's important for us to learn about each other, and, ultimately, love one another.
its not about anti catholic but we believe that the catholic system not the people. the system is the seat of satan because of what they did in the past kill about 50,000,000 protestants in the dark ages. received world dominance and controlling the world . not living according to the bible. we believe that the catholic church is the woman of revelation that is drunken with the blood of the saints that rides the scarlet colored beast because woman in prophecy means church and the woman in revelation is decked in gold scarlet colored and in purple. the catholic church is the only church that has those colors. Also, we believe that the pope is the Anti-christ. the vicar of christ if calculated in hebrew or Latin turns out to be 666.
Spanish Católico here. The SDAs I know are totally anti-catholic "Pope is the antichrist, Jesuits eats babies at an altar of Baphomet 40m under the altar of Peter in Rome..." and the like crazy things. Ive Lost friendships with people when they turned into the SDA church.
I was roommates with a Seventh-Day Adventist for about a year, it was an interesting and enlightening experience and I was actually surprised at how much we agreed upon. Then again, maybe it's just because he was a very moderate one, as he himself was skeptical of some of the teachings, cultural trends, and beliefs of his own denomination Just a really great guy overall who cared a lot about the Lord and his word
Great video! Clearly shows who we are! Like many others, just folks with a thirst for what is good, unchanging and enduring. Looking forward to part II, Godspeed.
As a former Adventist, this video does not tell the truth about their core beliefs. Let me list a few: 1. Their REAL source of authority comes from their prophetess (EGW) and her books, collectively called The Spirit of Prophesy. They believe she's a prophet with the same pedigree as Ezekiel, Isaiah and other OT prophets. As a matter of fact, in most Adventist churches, she's the only author the pastor will quote in their preaching. if you count the number of times her name is mentioned, it will rival that of our Lord. 2. They interpret the Bible through her writings. Any other sources will be regarded as "Babylon." 3. They believe in salvation by works. The official name of that doctrine is called Investigative Judgement, of course there is NO shred of biblical evidence to support this. 4. They believe that Christians who worship on Sundays will persecute them in the end times and that if you go to church on a Sunday you are worshipping a sun god. 5. They believe that salvation is tied to the day you worship. The sad thing is that most evangelicals are on guard for the Jehovah's Witness, Mormonism and other cults but are completely clueless about Adventism. They do not consider you to be part of the body of Christ, that's why they proselytize believers AND non-believers alike! They are cults and exhibit signs of cults. Please be aware of them. Don't let their "health message" fool you. That's how they rope you in! Check out Former Adventist Fellowship.
Christ is Risen! This was a very awkward video having so many people involved. I'm interested in seeing the next part. The concept of restoration churches is almost a comical one, but I'm guessing the people originally involved had never interacted with or possibly not even aware of Orthodoxy.
Love your videos. The love of Christ shines through all of these priests and ministers and you. It's wonderful to see. I grew up an SDA but am no longer a member but I can say they are beautiful people.
Soooo…. Greg is my wife’s uncle. And my mind is blown. I had no idea y’all met and know each other, so awesome. My wife has grown up Adventist but I’ve grown up in primarily Presbyterian churches, so I had no clue what it was all about on the outset. Funny enough, I was in that exact situation you described in high school, not knowing why they “disappeared” every weekend and what was up but being too timid to ask. Thank you so much for putting in the effort and giving the SDA denomination a fair shake and showing everyone that they’re just as awesome, genuine, and a slightly weird as the rest of the churches around.
@@kevinn6708 High Churches are the ones who emphasize ritual, priestly authority, sacraments, and historical continuity with Catholic Christianity. Additionally, it refers to beliefs and practices of ecclesiology, liturgy, and theology, generally with an emphasis on formality and resistance to "modernization".
Thanks Matt... I can't wait for the theology questions! I was raised 4th gen SDA! Dad was an SDA Pastor... The Adventist belief in the doctrine of the Investigative Judgment is decidedly anti Christian. Ellen White is to Adventism what Joseph Smith is to Mormonism.. New revelation and gnostic knowledge from the 'Prophet's" visions is what drives their theology. Adventists started out as anti Trinitarian sect and still aren't able to confess an orthodox belief in The Holy Trinity. They teach that Christians may not reach salvation unless they keep the Jewish Sabbath holy.. (How ever they happen to define it at the time)..Nice bunch of guys btw.. no wonder there were 3 of them.. backup in case you start asking tricky questions.. Ellen White wrote that it is a sin for a Christian to say he was saved because he could never be sure he would make it through the Investigative Judgement. Adventist theology is remarkably Pelagian. The theology does not rightly divide the Word of law and Gospel. When discovering what Adventism REALLY teaches and practices, one can't distinguish between the voice of Moses from the voice of our Savior. The Adventist movement is a bald works righteousness religion. It even shows in that congregation's stained glass window.
Amen. I’m a former SDA and I couldn’t agree more. My parents and a young me left the church when I was 10. Forever grateful that 17 years later I was saved and rescued out of an atheistic worldview. For the first time I was introduced to grace. And the true gospel. Although I left the sda church when I was a kid, years later I still had to unlearn a ton of stuff I remembered. Ellen G White is a heretic and there’s so many false doctrines within the church. AMAZING people but a church that is heavily works based and foundations built on a false prophet
Thank you for speaking up! I love Matt, but this video just wasn’t critical enough. It gives people a very limited and flawed image of the dangerous and evil doctrines of the SDA and the teachings of Ellen G White.
I wasn’t raised Adventist so I haven’t had the full experience of its educational system but I understand where your comments are coming from. The conservative side of adventism has a certain way of producing those who reject it because they eventually figure out that it’s demands are impossible to meet. Such is the case in other flavors of Christianity I’ve been in. When I came into the SDA church I was taught the traditional “you’ll never know when your name comes up” version of the IJ, but as I’ve done community work for the past eight years I’ve seen that that interpretation of the IJ is unfruitful. Since focusing on the Gospel and the cross I’ve come to reframe the IJ in terms of the light of Christ and his ultimate purpose to shine through a united church body of all Christians. It’s obvious to me that there’s a pre-advent process but Adventist have been so weak on the Gospel for so long we forget that “there’s no condemnation/judgement for those in Christ Jesus”. God at some point weeds out those who say they are Christians but never lived for him, making their own flawed concept of God an idol.
I,m up to date, I have been binge watching every one of your videos, love them all. You are a great witness by actually doing what the bible says by loving everyone, and not distancing yourself from people you disagree with. God is working through you and I can't not support Gods work, so I'm also a new supporter on patreon. Great work.
I can't tell you how grateful I am to hear that you appreciated what I've been working on Juan. Thanks an additional measure for getting behind this thing on patreon.
Hey! One of the few videos where we SDAs aren't called cult members. 😆Jk, not a lot of anti videos around anymore, thanks to ones like this. One of the most interesting series around.
@@MYMINDism That's my problem with some SDAs too. In the end, Ellen White is not Jesus and her writings not scripture. She isn't like Mormonism's Joseph Smith. I'd compare it to someone like Luther or Calvin. Lutherans quote Luther a lot, Calvinists quote Calvin, and SDAs quote EGW. Just like the Luther and Calvin, she's not infallible. But just like the two of them, they are very influential in the denominations they founded (I know Calvinism isn't a denomination but you get my point).
EG white is one issue we have to work out as a denomination indeed. A tough one given we are still kinda young. It seems like we are going though a difficult transition through adolescence at the moment.
@@gospel2dgeek EGW was not the sole founder of the Seventh-day Adventist movement. She was not only, not the only one, but was also one among quite a few other names that could be provided that were co-founders including James White, Joseph Bates, Hiram Edson, R. L. Crosier, etc. It should be stated that the name Seventh-day Adventist didn't even exist until 1861 and formal organization didn't occur until 1863.
MYMINDism no one hides Ellen white. Her writings are distributed and translated more than any other book other than the Bible. Why would we hide her. She is a prophet what she says is true. Her ministry was to point the movement towards God. She wasn’t the leader nor was she the founder. She was a leader and many followed what she said because she is a prophet. You should study her more before trashing her. After all you would be falling into the same vain as the Jews who killed every prophet god sent to them.
Matt I love you visiting different churches learning different theologies, I use to belong to a Messianic Synagogue, I know their is different messianic group some are more jewish like others are more church like it would good see that aspect but if you do can do a segment on it. I could help if you need help on that. I know a lot in that area.
I want to thank you for these kind of videos. They really helps us to get to know each other as christians. I kind of get the feeling that your original project for your channel was more in a traditional preachy bible kind of line. But I believe that this journalistic interdenominational work is so much more needed and appreciated. I feel that it is a very important contribution not only for simple civility and mutual aceptance, but in a grassroots kind of interdenominational dialogue. I get the impression that you have a good theological background that helps you get to the essentials of the Gospel in your interviews. I truly enjoy when you have the opportunity to get pretty deep into theology and interpretation. Please keep up this good work. We live in times when intolerance and bigotry are true temptations. Opening bridges is solidly rooted in the Gospel.
I enjoyed this so much. It's a fair presentation about Adventist Christians. I was raised as a Spiritualist. I started reading the Bible when I was 16. When I was about 3/4 of the way through I realized I wasn't finding what I'd been taught. I figured it wasn't in the other quarter (it wasn't) and started looking for a Bible-based church without man-made traditions. When I found the Adventist church, they answered all of my questions from the Bible. I was baptized in 1982, when I was 21. I've been so happy. When we were looking to buy our first house 2 years ago, the Lord led us to a little town in rural Minnesota of just over 2000 people. Six blocks from our house is an Adventist church. That's the best part of living here. I've always wanted to live in a small town and have an Adventist church within walking distance.
Informative and thank you for all your Bible hours. I’d say with the Reformation reason wasn’t their basis principally. For the Reformers they too appealed to the earliest church, and certainly with Luther went back to Paul and his theology of salvation and the Solas-Sola Scriptura, Sola Fide, all tied to faith in Jesus directly. The Seventh Day Adventists and the Millerites some of who were foundational to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, came out of the time of the Great Awakening in the 19th Century, and it’s very much tied to the theology of the Second Coming which some of the Millerites thought would in 1844. That failure of Jesus’s return then, led to a theological re-evaluation.
As always, incredibly insightful and interesting! I knew a couple girls in high school who were Adventist and all I knew about them was the Saturday Church and they didn't eat pork. One of them also let me borrow a book about a German Adventist who was forced to enlist in the Natzi army during WWII and the way he maintained his faith and ultimately escaped. My in-laws live next to a Adventist church with congregants who look very Amish/Mennonite. You should check out a Vineyard Church sometime! I think you'd find the Kingdom theology of now/not yet interesting to discuss.
So excited to see you visiting the church I grew up in! I've always wondered what an outsider's reaction would be if they walked into our church. Excited to see the next video!
I (was) a Seventh-day Adventist. And this video represents majority of the people within the church -- warm, friendly, Biblically eloquent. I love Adventists. Most of my family and friends are still within this denomination. Theologically, though -- and specially with some legalistic practices -- it's more than meets the eye. So, if you're an evangelical Christian, you have to really be paying attention to this if you want to dive deeper into understanding the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Yes. You always have to be listening and ask a follow up question to their response....when they say they "just" go to church on Saturday, ask them what would happen, ultimately, if they stopped, or worse, switched to Sunday? Suddenly, it's a whole different ball game...
I'm surprised how many of us former Seventh-day Adventists are showing up in this comments section. I have many great Adventist friends and a good past in the church as well as some very messy experiences with what can go wrong with this perspective on God and others. It can be tough to figure out how to be for the people and against the church...
@Arnold Gamboa As an interested outsider, could you perhaps elaborate on which doctrines of Seventh-Day Adventism are legalistic in nature (or otherwise theologically problematic)? God bless you.
@@FruitOfTheSpirit I'd mention a few without going into details (so Adventists here, don't debate me. There's a better place for that :D ) 1. Their treatment of the Seventh-day Sabbath -- it's almost as if it's their identity more than Jesus himself. Theology about the Sabbath overwhelms every facet of their existence -- from history to soteriology to eschatology. This brings about some really bad legalistic practices, ie. do's and don'ts in observing the Sabbath. They also believe that the Sabbath is the final test of allegiance to God, so while they will not admit that they claim Adventism is the "true" church and others are not, the net effect of this eschatological perspective is the same. 2. The Investigative Judgement doctrine. According to this doctrine, 1844 was the year Jesus entered heaven's "most holy place" to judge our sins. There's a big difference with evangelical theology that says Jesus forgave and sins are judged on the cross. It has a direct effect on how you'd view your salvation. This is the reason why Adventists doesn't have the assurance of salvation. 3. Ellen G. White. They view her as their prophetess. Nothing really wrong if you have people in your church who wrote a bunch of books. But if that person becomes an "authoritative source of truth", that blurs the line with how you'd treat his writings vs. the Bible. This is the case for Ellen White. There's a bunch of things she wrote that contradicts the Bible but they wouldn't admit that she's wrong on those. There are other things like soul sleep and not eating pork and other food listed in the Old Testament laws (Lev. 11). But those doesn't compare to these big three.
Adrian Pritchard Well he seems open to learning about different sects of Christianity and making TH-cam videos about it, and those two are popular TH-camrs from a different sect of Christianity
I'm very interested to get to see you discuss the nuances of their church history and theology! Thanks for helping to break down the stereotypes that I had formed into my head about the nature of this expression of faith!
I look forward to your question and answer time with those men. I (Who grew up being Baptist) used to work with a 7th Day Adventist and thought that he had a good dynamic with all his coworkers and at times we would sit around and briefly talk about what we believed. I hope that your next video talks about those same issues as I can learn more.
Quarterly is interesting. I'm from Georgia and mainly have gone to Southern Baptist churches. 2 of those actually only did the "Lord's Supper" (Communion) on certain holidays (Easter, Christmas, Pentecost mainly.) I even have been to one that only did it on Easter to commemorate Jesus' last meal with the disciples. Although I know it's not all Southern Baptist churches, because I know I few that do it weekly, monthly, etc. The church I attend now is just a simple by the Bible type of church. We try to follow the bible's teaching on things and try to follow what the apostles did. Typically its worship songs (usually 3 songs, almost always contemporary) Communion every Sunday, usually right before or right after the sermon, alter call (again contemporary.) Has a Baptist influence due to that being what the Pastor was familiar with before becoming a Preacher. I guess the main "Doctrinal" thing we have is a big "Come as you are" type of mindset, you can dress up if you want but no one cares if you do or don't (The Pastor even wears t-shirts and blue jeans practically every Sunday) and a heavy emphasis on serving the church and others (Not "required" but its what Jesus would do.) By the way, I love your videos Matt, especially where you tour other churches from different denominations, it really helps break the stigma that unfortunately so many Christians have where "It's my way, or the highway."
It's very interesting how Protestants view and handle Communion although, as a Catholic, I cringed when he mentioned burning the communion bread before remembering they don't believe in the True Presence.
They are cults. Ask them about the role of their "prophetess." She's the only authority they have. In some cases, they view her authority over the Bible. Do not go with your feelings but a critical mindset. The people are nice but their theology is flawed.
@@edwinooo11226 unfortunately, my brother, you have no idea what SDA is all about. Have you found time to inquire from typical SDA person or read our beliefs and teachings?
@@edwinooo11226 I was a catholic and wanted to become a priest, A Pastor asked me, Do you believe the Bible is the Word of God. I said yes. I believe it is the Word of God.. I started to compare the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and found many errors in their doctrine. I wanted to give my life to this church. I saw in john 14:15 Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my Commandments." Keeping the Commandments is based on the love of Jesus who gave that command. I am now preaching the Gospel around the word as a Seventh-day Adventist pastor.and have been used by Jesus to call on His name to cast out demons, a witch gave life life to Jesus in baptism. She came to cast a spell on the preacher, as she was approaching she saw a ring of fire around the preacher. She bowed her face to the ground and said Jesus is to powerful, I must serve Jesus. Before Ellen White died she told the church to depend on the Bible only. She never considered herself a prophet, but a servant of the Lord. Peace.

Thanks for your open, exploratory attitude. Looking forward to the theological discussion. As an Adventist myself, I know that we hold a few beliefs that seem a bit different from other Protestant denominations. I’ve questioned these beliefs at length and found them solid. As you communicated in the video, Adventism is diverse and dynamic. There are some Adventists that have perspectives that are, frankly, very wrong-headed to me. But the reason I remain an Adventist today is because I believe in the same truths that Adventists hold in common, and I find those truths expressed in the Bible. Thanks again!

All of those comments are true.
No one can doubt the current Pope is evil.
For people who call themselves Christians you sure do harbor a lot of hate in your hearts. Catholic hate is real and this chat is a prime example

There is so much misinformation out there about this church and I'm looking forward to the 2nd video where you guys discuss more about SDA. Thank you so much for doing this, brother :) God bless you and your ministry.
Amen, me too and Happy Sabbath!

This comment made me throw up in my mouth because I know how brainwashed all of you guys are. The sunday keepers aren't coming after you in the end times my dude.
I'm a Seventh-day Adventist and I love your channel and the message behind your videos: "Listening with fairness and love." Keep up the good work!
I’m Adventist too, he is very humble and kind, I enjoy his videos.
I’m an atheist that attends an episcopal church with my family. I’m generally interested in all religions and I like this guy the same reason you all do. He’s just a nice dude.
@California Karen Thanks!! :) I'll pray for you too!!
I’m going to pray for that judgmental Karen too.
California Karen dear friend. Interesting. I found the opposite. I dug into the word and prayed for truth and came to the conclusion the that SDA is the only church that aligns with scripture.
I would love to see you visit and interview a Messianic Jewish congregation!
Second this!
Shabbat Shalom!
I'd love to see this!

I kept laughing each time he said "Sunday!" Glad you've had a good time serving at an Adventist Hospital! I'm sure you were a huge asset to the team!
What was it like being a chaplain?
My Dad was a Seventh Day Adventist chaplain for 35 years.. before that he was a congregational Adventist pastor for 6 years... He is now Lutheran..
@@JustinKhoe Thanks Justin -- most Baptists don't realize that for Jesus, Saturday was indeed the Sabbath!
Matthew 7:3-5 (NIV)
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
It motivates those of us who are looking forward to using social media to share the love of God
Thanks.
Love this 🙌🏼
The fact that you've followed me for so long without knowing that I'm adventist shows how much I value trying to convert people to adventism 😂

You got deceived. SDAism is so heretical.

Sunday worship is/or will be the Mark of the Beast......Ellen G White is a sutle deciever.
Same here!

i have been searching for some time about her , and something inside me tells me that it's not good
If you reject her, let it be for biblical reasons and not just a feeling.
Blessings on your ministry and in your personal relationship with our Lord.
we have a guy that comes to our Sunday school small group and he’s one of the best people I know. Thanks for shedding some light on his crew.
Continue studying the BIBLE friend and truly the HOLY SPIRIT will lead you to the wholistic truth. If you have question feel free to ask...

The seventh day Adventist are not a Christian church. Check out Matt Slick and Tim Martin. Tim Martin is an Christian expert on cults .
@@antonralph6947 I don't align myself with the SDA church, but to say that they are not Christian is erroneous.
@Michael Heathman I'm not an SDA, but which cult do you belong to?
@Michael Heathman Again, not really defending the SDA church, but if you are referencing a book written back in 1963, then your information is extremely outdated. They had issues with salvation by faith in those days, but now it is preached wholeheartedly from their pulpits.
There are some within the church that still cling too tightly to the writings of Ellen White, but as a whole, they are a denomination that believe that salvation comes by grace through faith alone.

That is what the SDA does.
No we dont. If you don't like t the SDA church and think that way. Then look at how the Pharisees treated Jesus, called him the son of lucifer. Remember the way to help is wide and many will follow but the way to salvation is narrow and very few find it.

Welcome to the Christian family Juan!

Yes something smelled fishy here. It looked like your standard evangelical church but it was visible that something quite "unique" is under it.
"I think the best version of the Bible is as many as possible." I love that response!
@Ben Dulany
I'm not so sure that is a good answer. Is multiplying heresy a good thing?

“Really strong emphasis on the returning of Christ” 😳😳😳
The soon-coming King!
Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and obey what is written in it, because the time is near."
Notice that Jesus says those "who hear and obey what is written in the words of this prophecy" are "blessed." His Word.
Then He appeared to over 500 brothers at one time; ..."
1 Corinthians 15:3b-6a
Love that you made this, Matt, and it’s cool seeing people’s different perspectives, too.
Godspeed.
Omg, I follow you! It really inspire me to see how other people live adventism! Keep doing it! :)
Love your work on Humans of Adventism! 🙌
Claudia Siesquén thank you! We’re a pretty diverse group of people once you look closely. Doesn’t discount the negative ways it’s been lived out by many Adventists, but it does mean that what you experience in one place and what you experience somewhere else can be pretty different 💁🏼♂️
Darren Jeremy Cecil thank you!
Something about your videos sits really well with me. Thank you for exploring traditions that are different and sharing them. Conversations like this are very important.

Us Catholics have Mass every day. We still celebrate the sabbath on Sunday's.
Do you share an affinity with Jehovah’s Witnesses? Or “not so much”?
But you have this in Catholicism and all ordinary denominations.. lol
So this is actually common if you dig deeper in various denominations.
Follow Yeshua, keep Torah. Anything more and you're over-complicating things.

That’s not really the way we see it. She never interpreted the Bible. All our doctrines are based on the Bible alone.

Ellen White was a True Prophet of God

Great video! Clearly shows who we are! Like many others, just folks with a thirst for what is good, unchanging and enduring. Looking forward to part II, Godspeed.
As a former Adventist, this video does not tell the truth about their core beliefs. Let me list a few:
Any other sources will be regarded as "Babylon."
Would be nice to see one on some some other seventh day churches like Church of God which differs it's view from Adventists.

It makes me appreciate the high church even more
Weird, many of us now see how deceitful they are. They intentionally avoided the specifically unique beliefs of the denomination. Why?
What’s the “High Church”?

We keep praying for you.

@@conradwilson2136 I can always love the people inside the church without tolerating the dangerous practices that goes with bad theology.
There's a better place for that :D )

I guess the main "Doctrinal" thing we have is a big "Come as you are" type of mindset, you can dress up if you want but no one cares if you do or don't (The Pastor even wears t-shirts and blue jeans practically every Sunday) and a heavy emphasis on serving the church and others (Not "required" but its what Jesus would do.)
By the way, I love your videos Matt, especially where you tour other churches from different denominations, it really helps break the stigma that unfortunately so many Christians have where "It's my way, or the highway."
It's very interesting how Protestants view and handle Communion although, as a Catholic, I cringed when he mentioned burning the communion bread before remembering they don't believe in the True Presence.

On the Other Hand Mormons believe God has a body of flesh and blood. Mormons do not believe in the Trinity only that Jesus is a highly favored creature. They are Arians. Look it up. Mormons men believe they will become Gods of their own planet. Doesn’t sound like orthodox Christianity to me.
It's interesting. Being a catholic convert we still sing protestant hymns like how great thou art and amazing grace
I went and worshiped at an Adventist Church and it was a very pleasant worship time when the people were so welcoming
SDA from the British Union Conference (BUC) here. Great video...thank you for your respectful dialogue. I’m excited to see part 2. Our history and theology is indeed interesting😊
Is "interesting" a new term for "false"?
E go listen to your rock n roll 😊
