Jonghyun had a big presence on stage, especially during this performance, making it seem like he’s far taller than he was! He was such an immense talent! 💎
This concert was SHINee's SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) in Seoul, so it was in 2016. You can tell this concert is in 2016 because Minho has gray hair, which means this was soon after their "1 Of 1" promotions. If you remember, they all looked like that in their "1 Of 1" MV. Minho dyes his hair so infrequently, and each of the member's hairstyles usually change so dramatically for every comeback because of their effort to continually be trendy, that you often can tell what era something is part of just by the members' hair colors and styles.
This was their 5th world tour -- and at this point they had already held more than 100 concerts in their career. So Onew and Jonghyun were about 26, Minho and Key were about 24 and Taemin was around 22.
Their performance of "Replay" is the last song in their opening set -- about 28 minutes into their performance -- where they had just performed 5 others songs right before this. That is why they look so sweaty. Before this they perform: "Hitchhiking," "Married to the Music", "Why So Serious", "Juliette", "Prism" and then "Replay." You've seen several of these MVs, so you know how intense the choreography is, and yet, look how flawless they still sound when they sing "Replay."
"Ring Ding Dong" was the opening song of that set. Right before this, Taemin had performed his song "Goodbye (Sayonara Hitori)" as a solo stage while the other members were getting changed, so the reason why you don't see him in the beginning was because it took him a little longer to get redressed. You see him pop up from underneath the stage and join them a few seconds into the performance.
And, if you watch this full concert, you will see that their performance of "Ring Ding Dong" and "Lucifer" is about 1 hour and 20 minutes into their 3 1/2 hour concert. If you think this performance was good, just wait until you see a full set or the full concert, th-cam.com/video/GVo4BqXy-T8/w-d-xo.html. :D They are impressive when you see them perform one song, but when you see how much passion and energy they use for a full set, and even a full concert, and still are able to maintain stable vocals while singing live the whole time, you will be even more blown away.
If you are impressed with Jonghyun's long high note in "Lucifer," just wait. Jonghyun is known for his amazing vocal abilities that is why he is considered one of the BEST vocalists of all time. What you just heard is normal when it comes to Jonghyun, especially when he performs live. However, although Jonghyun has some impressive high notes, it doesn't even come close to what Onew can do. Check out Onew's performance of "Friend
," where he broke the record for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch, at 40+ seconds. All the members of SHINee can hit impressive high notes. Even Minho who is the main rapper and the one with the deepest voice out of all of them, has been known to hit some amazing high notes on occasion. SHINee are considered vocal powerhouses for a reason.
As you may have noticed, what you just heard was the remixed version of "Ring Ding Dong" and "Lucifer." so that is why the songs sound different than the MV. SHINee never performs a song the same way twice, so it's always a new experience no matter how many times you have seen or heard them perform the song. That's why SHINee concerts are considered one of the best concerts in the world.
SHINee live are always 300 times better than any of their studio recordings, and it's almost guaranteed that if someone doesn't vibe with one of their songs right away, the minute they see them perform it live, they gain a whole new appreciation for he song and it almost always becomes their new favorite. It's called the SHINee effect. That's why their live performances are considered the top in the industry.
What you just experienced is why, even as rookies, SHINee was so highly respected by everyone, including their seniors. Even during rehearsals on music programs senior artists would stop everything they were doing to come and watch SHINee perform because their live vocal ability while performing intense choreography was something no one else was doing at the time, and people were blown away by how perfect their singing and harmonies were. Even still today, SHINee is the group that everyone looks up to and wants to be like.
SHINee live is unmatched and it's literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard that all other groups strive to reach and SHINee are the vocalists that all other artists try to emulate.

Shines's concert is everything... Intense, emotional, sweet, fun...
Lucifer has a special place in my heart as it was my intro to SHINee in 2010 and I was hooked for life..😆..As Taemin said.. no exit..once you're Taem-in, there's no Taem-out..love the live version with Jjong going all extra as he does..yup that note really went that long.. and the 2Min moments. Minho's dance break ❤.. You should checkout the Lucifer Rearranged version too..It is hilariously ott in the best way.... Ring Ding Dong..the song you have to dance to..and sing.. and then have it stuck in your head for the rest of day.. That's a beautiful version of Replay ..the live versions are awesome when they play with the harmonies. Jinki does seem to get the most sweaty performing..They go straight into one song after another...not sure what was just before this one ..without changing..they have usually have small video sections when they do change. ..or solo pieces. Oh, I meant to say this in my previous comment, but forgot. If they look that sweaty during their "Replay" performance than they had not "just jumped off stage to change their clothes" right before that song. If you watch some of their concert documentaries and behind the scenes footage, you will see that while they are changing their clothes, they have stylists, makeup artists, managers, etc. who are in charge of simultaneously wiping them down and making them look perfect once again. (And they usually do it all within the span of about 5 minutes.) If they are sweaty that means they haven't left the stage in a while and they have been dancing really intensely for an extended period of time. And that goes for all Kpop concerts, not just SHINee.
Shinee give the best concerts. And they give their all for every single one! They never fail to disappoint. I love watching their concerts! Their live vocals and dancing is everything! How I wish I could have been at one of those concerts!

And btw, you were right at first, Taemin wasn't there because he was performing solo before this so he was changing his clothes. He came later on (the moment you saw him).. And yes, this was same concert.

Ah, this may be the time Taemin was changing after a solo. He was singing his part from offstage so the members didn't miss him 💜 And I do love more of their unplugged, lighter instrumental versions, especially of Reply, which makes me tear up with nostalgia, even though I found our shining SHINee during the pandemic. And Taemin's sweet solo, an homage to their debut, and his very first solo, so sweet 💜

Thank you for this, super love it!!! All these performances came from the same concert - SHINee World 5. Replay was performed duing the first part of the concert but it was already after their choreo heavy and fast songs like Why So Serious, Hitchhiking, Juliette and Married to the Music. That's why they look sweaty already.
Yes, Taemin was late as he performed his solo Goodbye before Ring Ding Dong so he had to change his outfit first. Btw Ring Ding Dong and Lucifer was performed around the middle part about one and a half hours into the concert (SHINee concerts usually lasts 3-3.5 hrs). And they were still so stable all throughout, the level of energy is still so high until the end.
SHINee is so proffesional that you didn't notice right? They are singing live and on this particular concert Jonghyun lost his voice. He stay awake allnight before the concert to practice and almost forgot to sleep so when day come he lost his voice. That's why he force it out by shouting. You can also notice if you watch it again he lost his voice in some point and Onew sang louder and Jonghyun just mouthed the words until his voice came back. They did it all flawlessly. Jonghyun even hit his highnote perfectly without anybody noticing. You can even see how frustrated he is while dancing but he still done his part amazingly. People just know about it after he apologize to the fans and member 'cause he thought he didn't show his best due to voice lost and promise to be careful next time. But nobody notice except the best leader Onew (and the members ofcourse) who silently did help him sing. They are not "King Of Live Performances" for nothing 😎. Legend indeed. And yah Taemin is not there at the beginning because he is still changing wardrobe and he just came the moment you saw him that's also why Onew also sang a little of his line at the beginning. It's worth every penny when you have the honor to watch their live concert. Love,support and respect to this one in a million talented,hard working group.😊💚

Thank you for that explanation. Every time I watch that performance by the end of Lucifer I just wanna ask Jonghyun if he needs a hug, the man looks like he left his soul on that stage, and I did notice Onew looking at him too I just didnt know what was going on. I thought he was forcing himself too hard for some reason, cause through the performance you can see Onew and Key "pace" themselves (as they should) to keep steady, but Jonghyun was just going so hard on both the dancing and his singing throughout. I thought the distortion and force in his voice was deliberate, a choice he made cause the studio version had so much autotune and effects on his voice lol.
Nice to know the backround of the story. Also probably explains why he was going so hard, he probably felt guilty and frustrated for not being on his A game for the concert. Thank you again.
I watched this specific version of this set when SHINee came to the US and when that Lucifer breakdown hit, and Jonghyun let out that extended note, the venue errupted like nothing I've experienced before. It was magical and incredible watching these superstars do what they do best. I feel very lucky to have seen them as 5 then and I hope I get to catch them again in the future, god willing.
That Don't Call Me album concept was amazing, you should check out the Fake Reality Mood Sampler sometime, it's a cinematic masterpiece (Key's Bad Love one was incredible too, esp if you're into scifi) You're already getting the fond nostalgic reaction to RDD haha, Jjong's baybayyyyy is iconic. I kind of miss the days of instantly recognisable point dances that everyone would know and cover all the time. It's amazing how the sheer size of the stadium creates a delay in the fanchants. They do Replay a bit differently each time, this is definitely one of my favourites. SHINee are always sweaty in their concerts, the set lists for the DVD shows were ridiculous, their stamina is mind boggling. I don't think I've ever preferred a studio version over a live version of a SHINee song, they just take it above and beyond. Loved this reaction!

So surprise that you notice Taemin was not on the stage in the beginning, not many reactor notice that. 😆 He sings while changing in backstage so his voice was a bit small, and Onew covered that part. SHINee always have great team work. 💕

The moment Jonghyun tone at "uhhhuuu" ending of Reply.. I always keep repeating that 1 sec moment cause it's sound real soft sweet. Jonghyun always love to put various kind of tone whenever his singing, and that's why i love him so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the end ❤❤❤

Replay was closer to the start and RDD + Lucifer was in the middle. I'm pretty sure right after Taemin's solo which is why he comes in a bit later from his costume change. Jonghyun and Onew did a duet for their solos in this concert.
Idk why they go on a diet for tours when they'll probs lose hella weight just from sweating and dancing after just one concert. lol
That Replay performance was after a long performance of Chocolate, Hitchhiking, married to the music among others. Shinee World 5 concert was the 2nd live performance I watched and I was so impressed. My favourite one though is Shinee World 4, not only bcuz of Minho’s Dynamite performance but that concert is just so epic 🔥🔥

Replay is usually the song they end the concert on. There's one stage of this that I can't watch without crying, cause SHINee quit singing & Shawols took over. Jonghyun start bawling & that always makes cry too.

Replay was the 5th or 6th song of the concert, they did why so serious, juliette, prism and Replay then my favorite Chocolate... they started either with Married to the music and the Hitchhiking or the other way around

Taemin was actually late in the RDD stage lol he was not able to sing his part in the beginning and you can see him entering the stage somewhere when they were already in the aisle. I think you will enjoy the entire SWCV concert! They performed songs they rarely perform and I just appreciate it so much bc that concert really did showcase their artistry.

this RDD x Lucifer stage is legendary. not a big fan of these two songs, but this particular performance is one of my favourites from them.
Taemin performed Flame of Love before RDD-Lucifer so he was changing his clothes and came a few seconds after RDD started.

Thanks for your reaction. Love your DCM decor! I was amazed when I watched their Japanese concerts on TH-cam recently. The performed a string of singing and dancing songs straight with no break and with full energy and emotion. At one stage I thought Onew was going to pass out! That’s how they get so sweaty!! They really are phenomenal. Supporting SHINee always.
태민의 솔로 무대가 끝나고 바로 링딩동이 시작되기 때문에 링딩동의 도입부는 태민이가 등장전이고 걸어서 나오는 태민이 파트에는 의상을 바꿔입고 무대에 나왔어야하는데 이 날은 그걸 놓쳤어요. 그래서 태민이 파트에 온유가 급하게 대신 부르는 걸 볼 수 있죠. ㅎ
