This week we take a look at SHINee for the first time, starting with their brand new song " MARRY ME", then we went all the way back to their debut song "REPLAY", followed by " RING DING DONG + LUCIFER" Live at their world tour, we also enjoyed their more R&B song like " ODD EYE" & "EXCUSE ME MISS" which lyrics are sooooo sweet, but Dammmnnnn, them visuals are too freaking sexy and to finish it off we watched Taemin & Jonghyun on their mind-blowing performance of "INTERNET WAR". FREAKING FIRE!!!!🔥✨

Jonghyun is the first kpop artist to release five self-produced solo albums. He has been very involved in SHINee's songwriting and production since he was 19 years old. He wrote SHINee's Juliette (a successful single) when he was 19 and from then on he composed a lot of SHINee's hits such as View, Spoiler, Selene 6.23, Dangerous, Orgel, Prism, Odd Eye, Symptoms, Chocolate, and many more.
He composed EXO's Playboy and Taemin's Already. Jonghyun named his first solo album "BASE" because he played bass in his band. In fact, SM found him while he was a bass player at 14 years old, not knowing he'd turn out to be an even greater singer.
Yes true he did make Play boy for our EXO boys which is an iconic song and performance among us Exols and the boys mentioned that he made it and they loved it :) ♥️

While it's true that the kpop industry is very harsh, Jonghyun unfortunately suffered depression since he was a kid, before SHINee, to the point he had thrown away his own childhood pictures. His mental health struggles should not be reduced to "the dark side of kpop". He talked about suffering bullying as a kid for being "different", he had a bad relationship with his father, who refused to support him when he pursued music. He admitted he suffered from insomnia and seasonal depression. He was not one of those idols who suffer online hate, in fact he was massively loved in the industry and SHINee made him happy. what actually failed him was the healthcare system, not kpop.
Ikr he clearly stated it on his last letter that he gave to his friend if I’m not mistaken that he actually seek for help but the doctor that its all his fault that he is suffering. The worst psychologist ever

Yeah... I hate it when people keep bring up his name when talked about dark side of kpop etc. Jonghyun actually one of few who have freedom on his art.... But sadly not on his health...

i definitely agree! i just wanted to say, though, that jjong did get a lot of hate as well, especially when he spoke up about social issues. but i agree; so many people reduce him to his death (when he was so, so much more than that) and use him to "expose" the "dark side of kpop." it's sad and it kind of makes me angry sometimes how people will use his depression just for clout.

Fun Fact: Shinee is the group who actually introduced technical dancing style in Kpop which we see today!!! 🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺Earlier dance was simple with lot of jumping but after shinee the dance scene changed to more technical choreography style.

I just love watching MVs and performances from 1st- and 2nd-gen groups and seeing all the things that will go on to shape the industry. Like how SuJu introduced catchy, repetitive choruses, SHINee introduced R&B/EDM and technical dance, 2PM introduced stunting and conceptual performances, etc etc. The older generations really had such an impact on K-pop and the millions of people it reached.

Odd eye was actually written by Jonghyun and Key wrote the rap. Jonghyun was also involved in the music and arrangements for the song. He’s actually written quite a few SHINee songs ever since they were rookies, Minho has also written a lot of rap parts in songs too and to a lesser extent Key.
The lucifer choreo was actually the first kpop dance to have a dance practise and it really rose the standard of dancing in kpop

About the Internet War performance: If I'm correct, Jonghyun was the one who wanted to cover this song (Internet War was made by Seo Taiji) and the one that directed the performance. That song was (is?) considered problematic in Korea bc it talks about the bad aspects of their society. The song also talks about an abusive relationship in some ways so Jonghyun wanted to have a performance where there was a "predator" and a "prey", so he chose Taemin to be the "prey" (mostly for height bc Taemin was the only member who wasn't significantly taller than Jonghyun).
Most people think that this was pure fanservice but it really isn't just that. And even if it was, it backfired bc the Korean fans (not all of them ofc) were *fuming* lol. Seriously, you guys have no idea how much angry they were, they threatened to boycott SHINee and sent a lot of letters and stuff petitioning for Jonghyun and Taemin to be kicked out of the group. Both of them received a lot of backlashes, but especially Jonghyun for not only tainting SHINee innocent image but also tainting Taemin's innocence (this was the time when Taemin started to rebel bc he was getting tired of the fanbase infantilizing him).
Obviously Jonghyun responded like a King by changing his twitter profile pic with the final image of that stage: Jonghyun and Taemin handcuffed to each other.
Anyways, thank you guys sm for reacting to SHINee! Next you should totally react to their live performance of Sherlock clue+note, Dynamite, Born to Shine (by Key), Stranger, Don't let me go (by Onew and Jonghyun, Onew's cover of Rainy Blue and so on and so on xD

Sometimes I see comments like this about this performance, but I am a little surprised because it is very different from what I experienced. When this show was first released, SHINee's fandom was really upset-in a good way. The performances of Jonghyun and Taemin gave fans tremendous shock and satisfaction, and that the level of performance they can show has increased. Especially for fans who knew that Taemin's solo stages were differenIt from SHINee's color, this stage was of great significance.
Already passing the Lucifer era, Taemin's mature and dark appearance on the stage attracted a lot of new fans. It was Taemin's growth itself. It is true that some of the public, who consume part of this stage as gay moments, gave a bad glance, but at least among fans, this stage has been a legend from the beginning.
The last thing Shinee did together as a five was in 2017 not 2015 they had about 2 more world tours after that replay performance with Jonghyun
this Replay performance is from May 2015. they had a LOT more concerts after that, not just 4. They had a very long japanese and korean tour in 2016, they also toured USA and Canada in 2017. their last performance as five was August 2017 and their last concert with Jonghyun was November 2017.

One thing I don’t see people say a lot is that in the 2000s especially in Korea there was no conversation about mental health and a severe lack of medical infrastructure for mental health. After JJong (Jonghyun) passed a lot changed in the industry. JJong was one of the first idols to have some creative control interns of writing and producing music. I think a lot of people realized that there was more to life than being talented and famous. That’s why you see a lot of companies allowing their idols to take breaks and making public statements about their rest time. He probably saved a lot of idols that came after him. I’m really proud of our bling bling he fought hard and it made a difference. 💙💎🥰
I loved how you praised Odd eye's production "who comes up with this and thinks its a hit ?" when it was the first song Jonghyun completely wrote and produced for shinee, he was the one who composed it, wrote it, arranged it, gave them the line distribution and directed the recording in the studio, he's such a genius

For their concert outfits, Key has a lot of contribution for it. He’s literally a fashionista who works with actual fashion designers to design clothes. There was one time where he was in a variety show and the whole point was to dress him in “ugly clothes” yet HE ROCKED IT.

I completely relate to how you feel. Everyone heals at their own pace. It took me over a year to be able to just hear his voice again. Jonghyun was truly a beautiful person inside and out. I still miss him.

SHINee Member Key has been styling & designing for SHINee’s Concerts since their 2014/2015. He started with one concert and SM loved it so much, he’s been doing it since. The outfits you loved were styled/designed by Key. He worked with designers, even drew some of the designs, and choose each outfit for all members himself. Their concert outfits since fits each member’s styles and features so well.

The RDD+Lucifer performance wasn't in the same concert as the Replay performance. The replay performance was in SWC 4 in 2015 whilst the other one was in SWC 5 in 2016-7
Jonghyun vocal is just beyeond impressive. I’m a Shawol since 2012 for me Jonghyun is THE BEST MAIN VOCAL EVER. HE NEVER EVEN ONCE being unstable or OUT OF BREATH while singing SHINee’s song with all those tiring choreography. That’s why on SHINee’s latest comeback even tho they’re doing really great key said the it was really hard bcs they feel the empty space of losing their best main vocal the reality just punch them on the face. Even tho they’re doing just fine bcs basically they all can sing but they somehow still kinda loose confidence as a group bcs basically Jonghyun is that impressive and his impact for the group is just amazing.

one of the greatest bands of all time in kpop!! seeing Replay again brought me to tears, it made me feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to see them as five in concert.

I really do recommend watching SHERLOCK llve from SWC4 this is one of SHINee's most iconic songs and was the most expensive SM choreo at the time. Please don't go, Hold you and Farewell my love from SWC5 are also really good
It's funny hearing how people perceive Taemin's voice after being introduced to him now. As someone who has watched him grow over the years, he actually really started to shine as the versatile and talented vocalist we know today with songs with rock/metal influences in my opinion. He performed Korn's "Get Up" around this time too and it was pretty shocking, but I think he really stood out with their song "Why So Serious?" Now of course he's all about smoothness and emotion, but I feel like he's kind of always had this rockstar persona lurking in him that people don't remember as much.
Yeah I think he's a huge rock fan but has to compromise for his pop fans. I feel like it was further "confirmed" because when he appeared on Amazing Saturday, Key told Taemin he needs to listen to more Korean pop since Taemin wasn't "winning" in one of the show's segments

His cute face deceived fans, me think. Shinee members have always said he's manly, not softie or feminine many ppl thought he is. Watch him in IU's Palette. At one part, he mentions getting uncomfortable / frustrated with the cute image fans see him.
I travelled for a SHINee Joint Charity Concert thinking “I will watch them live at AT LEAST ONCE then m good”.
AFTER only a 4/5-song performance.. it changed to “I HAVE TO WATCH A SHINee CONCERT AT LEAST ONCE”,
AFTER it changed to “I HAVE TO SEE SHINee LIVE AGAIN”.. then it started.. I travel togo to their group concerts & fanmeets, SOLO fanmeets, concerts, musical productions.. if my finances allow. Life of an intl fan. Haha

Shinee and GOT7 are for me the all time best and most versatile groups I really see both in each other. They’re always doing very particular sounds that makes you instantly know it’s them and the VERSATILITY gosh every member excels in everything ! They’re also to me the best live performances ! Ain’t no other like these 2 and I feel both are really popular but don’t get enough praise for their songs and work

Jonghyun has always been an emotional guy. It's just that he gets touched with all the fans' support and appreciative of their efforts to shower them with love. He was never one to hold back tears and was expressive. All these emotions and feelings though are directed towards his lyric writing. The lyrics he wrote for a lot of SHINee songs are amazing I hope people get to read them

Like a Fire, Hitchhiking, Stranger, Why So Serious Live are my favorites! There are many to mention but SWC3 concert is/was amazing to me. From now on 2018 is/ was heartbreaking but breathtaking!

SHINee, theyre insane! Their GROUP EVENTS, and even SOLO are insane. May it be concert, fanmeet or musical. They go all out. SHINee Concert is a 25-30 SONG SETLIST of a rollercoaster musical production.

Here some facts about your doubts and comments 😁
1. Onew is pronounce it as “Oniu” (in Spanish).
2. Marry you complete their saga of songs (Replay - confessing love to their noona, Love sick - being in a relationship and Marry you the proposal 🥰)
3. As many says, Replay were performed many times after this stage on 2015. Their last performance as 5, I think was SM Town on July 2017.
4. Their concert V (2016) actually is one of their hardest, cuz they performed a lot songs with hard choreos, and their director just told’em that it was hard but they can do it cuz they were SHINee 🤷🏻♀️.
5. Lucifer has many versiones but this was espectacular 👌🏻 and Ring ding dong was banned on exams period cuz it was hard to concentrate with it melody.
6. Odd eye is highly recommended cuz is really sexy, plus on their performance stage on music shows they were wearing black outfits and Key also wore an eye patch. And Jonghyun is the lyricist of this song. The reason why Onew sing the last words “My eyes on you” is because word play with his name “Onew and On you” that sounds pretty similar. Ahhh... Key is the designer of their outfits on their concerts IV n V. They were really involved on the production of their album Odd (where this song is included).
