I've been debating this one since I don't have a Chrono at the moment. Love the rotor design, just like a mesh BBS. Price seems worth it, but i think I'd just sell after a couple months like i did with the Spearfish....

...what impressed me most was the overall economy. I mean, 38.4 miles to the gallon at a constant 56 miles per hour, I think makes it a class leader.

Wow! Absolutely stunning trio of chronographs from Zelos!
Seeing the bicompax layout in the thumbnail I initially assumed these would be loaded with a Sea-Gull ST1902 (or one of its many variations) so the price was a bit surprising but made sense when you explained what was going on under that case back. That noise when manual winding the watch is really strange but that wheel rim inspired rotor is a really touch.
It’s a chunk of change for sure but when you compare it to other automatic mechanical chronographs the price is very competitive in my opinion. Really cool stuff 👍

Sold out. The salmon in 3 mins and gulf in roughly 5 mins. The panda took a bit longer. Not into chronograph so didn't get any but like the panda and gulf. Great models by Zelos. The salmon has a nice dial but subdial hands are too dark against the black subdials. Hopefully the actual watches have less alignment issues. Jody you should have highlighted the issues on alignment. There also seems to have a dirt on the outer track below index 10 though not sure if it is on the dial or crystal.

This is a great one. Wow tried and true review! You good sir have been chosen to be the observer in objective evaluation of horological wrist pucks. Lol. You pulled everything out that I did not see. Jodie you’re born for this bro. One major Reason being is I’ve been reading a lot on the detailed specs of certain watches. Some of these companies have given the dimensions of just the case and not the glass. Why? I don’t need that in a separate part of information. It kind of messes with you

You've not mentioned it in the mourns and niggles section, but on every shot of the watch in your video red dots by the indices are slightly off. This is especially visible under the 6 hour index. This is also (to a lesser extent) visible in official Zelos photos. Is it an optic illusion/distortion caused by recessed rinng on which red dots are, or is there a problem

This could have been great but the dial is a bit busy for me.

  • @darkwingduckish
    @darkwingduckish 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Jodie, thank you for the review!
Also thanks for the clarification: of course the overall dimensions should be decisive. Of course this is a rather chunky device that doesn't hide on the arm, the construction always dictates more than 14mm height there. Perhaps a slightly less boxed glass would have done it, though.
And shown alternative bands should also be available or offered.
It seems to be a rather conservative design now, taking away all those who didn't like the Starfighter ;) The typical Zelos touch is missing, nevertheless it has become a very attractive chronograph, both the design, and looking at the price/performance ratio.
Also, the hardening and the brand new clasp are far more than just gimmicks. And the 'engine room': insanely good looking imho.
Perhaps on the dial, one would have actually wished for illuminated hands for the large seconds and totalizers, but other racing chronographs often don't have that either.
However, it is remarkable: about half of the orange hour lumedots seem to be somewhere, but not in the right place... like an original handcrafted dial from the 50s/60s... ;) Could you give this a second check?
My taste has rather met the Starfighter, more expensive but more complete in my eyes, I continue to enjoy mine!

I don't think my eyes deceive me when I see both seconds hands have the "Miyota stutter", is that one of those endearing characteristics of the movement? I have a couple of Miyotas that do exactly the same thing and Caliber Corner (I think) suggest it's pretty normal and doesn't affect the timekeeping, and this watch is doing the same thing; not my cup of tea...even so it's a nice looking watch and this coming from someone who doesn't like chronographs, cheers

Great review, Jody. I was really hoping you would get this out prior to the drop. I do love the Vitesse - particularly the 'Gulf' colorway. But... don't have the dough lying around at the moment. I do have an Aventurine Starfighter, however, so will strap that on to console myself. Maybe down the road, I'll grab one from another Zelosian. Hopefully at a price close to the launch special. But... with Zelos... you never know. It might cost even more later. Love that BBS-style rotor. But overall design, desirable movement, hardness coating, and upmarket new bracelet/clasp provide all the value necessary to justify the price. I hope these sell out quick or I might find myself succumbing to temptation!!

Great review as always Jody. I like this one a lot but I’m leery of a movement without much of a track record for $1200 with only a one year warranty. Can you confirm if the lume marker at 6 is off center? The one at 7 looks it too. Many of us have commented on it. Thanks

I've got a Longines Grande Vitesse that has the 7750 in it, and a very similar dial, silver face with 3 black subdials. And legibility is the biggest gripe I have with it too. The hands on mine are silver, and they can kind of disappear on top of and especially between the sub registers. Definitly not easy to read at a glance, so I know exactly what you mean there.

I have not seen an auto Chrono watch with a 7750-based movement under 1000.00 USD before. But they are thick and heavy movements. I think a manual wind might be thinner. The only inexpensive mechanical Chrono watches I have seen are seagull 1963 or something by them.

I think of it as if you can afford this watch and you're an important person or have something important to do, you should know what day it is. 1 year warranty is always an issue with Zelos but when it is a Chronograph from a newer movement that is quite a fright. Getting these things serviced won't be cheap after the warranty expires. Getting a 3 hander with a SW200 or NH35 repaired if something fails is cheap and easy work that any watchmaker can handle. While a good watchmaker can easily repair these chronos the after warranty price of repair will be considerably higher. Considering it is not exactly a 7750 you might find the repair cost slightly higher, too.

I have no worries about the one-year warranty with ZELOS. I'm around 40 trinkets from ELSHAN right now give or take including the Mirage 8day. Some warranties are not worth the paper they are printed on. Zelos customer service is second to none and that includes my experience with my OMEGA trinket purchased from an AD.
