    Sportsters are my bike of choice too. I tried the Ultra Limited thing, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. If I wanted to be on a big wide thing, have the wind blocked out, soft suspension filtering out all feeling of the road, and listening to the radio... I'd just get in my truck.

    Great video and what a great looking sportster! I have an '01 sportster, 883 XL, in black just like yours. I bought it 15 years ago brand new and it's still going strong, but I want to do the hammer 1250 conversion.. You gave me some good ideas; I really like the fork brace, the aluminum laced wheels, the fairing, and the small blinkers. All of that put together looks really, really good!! When I look at your sportster, I see what mine could become. Once again, what a great job you did, its looks awesome!

    I've enjoyed checking out your bike a few times for inspiration. I've also been using that Bosch oil filter for about 2 years now. if you take off that orange reflector it would look slick & loose an ounce & that belt guard too drop them lbs. take care & ride safe.

    Do you suggest the 1250 or 1275 HAMMER BASIC KIT ???
    I believe the 1275 basic kit is just $100.00 more and i have a clean low mileage set of 06 stock 1200 heads .
    Thanx in advance 😎

      @motorcycleridingandrepair1627  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Joel and thank you for watching! Sorry but I am not that familiar with what it would take to switch over from fuel injection to carburetor but I think the fuel injection is integrated into the electrical and ignition system so you would have to figure all of that out. You might just want to stay with the injection.

    Bike looks nice. I have a 99 xlc 883 and that is the same engine build I'm looking todo. I have the cab and thunder headers and love them. What gas mileage are you getting from the 3.3 gal tank and 1250 kit.

    • @motorcycleridingandrepair1627
      @motorcycleridingandrepair1627  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello and thank you for watching! I am not really sure about MPG but it is still good on the 1250. I would say about 110 to 120 miles per tank. Thanks again!

    • @monte4891
      @monte4891 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Harley Davidson Racing yeah man I really like it. I can only imagine how the pipes sound with the thunder headers. also I noticed you have rear turn signal relocation kit. may I ask where you found them.

    • @motorcycleridingandrepair1627
      @motorcycleridingandrepair1627  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello again! I found the turn signals on eBay. They are cheaper plastic Chinese led bulbs. They take some custom work to mount and wire but the main issue is that when you switch over to LED you have to also install this blinker resistors in each line so the LED bulbs will work. That is the more difficult part. Do some research on the conversion to LED blinkers and you will get more information about it. Thank you again!

    What kind of reliability do you tend to see on these builds?

    • @motorcycleridingandrepair1627
      @motorcycleridingandrepair1627  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This 1250 build has been great for me with just regular repairs like tires. I just broke the rear belt though so I replaced the belt with the S&S belt, the front drive BDL pully, a rear tire and new rear brake pads. I keep the bike in excellent running order. The 1250 Hammer kit is excellent, however I see that Hammer currently wants $5200 for the Crush kit which is a big investment. The bike is loads of fun and it can keep up with many of the 124 big rig HD's on the road.

      Thanks for your reply. I'm planning to put a 1250 kit on my 2004 883 for street usage. I'm quite hesitant about what kit to buy Hammer or NRHS. I'll really appreciate your opinion about pros and cons about those kits for street usage. I have another question for you about the well known oiling system issues on sportys with performance kit, but I'll ask you later if you don't mind. Thanks so much!

    Nice build. Have you ran it on a Dyno? I got the Sportster bug myself. They're just flat out fun to ride

    • @motorcycleridingandrepair1627
      @motorcycleridingandrepair1627  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey Leon! I have not ran this bike on the dyno but I would estimate maybe 80 HP's. I did not build this motor to be super fast because I have other fast bikes. This build was built more for a daily fun, reliable rider so I really did not want a bunch of extra HP's because it I have they I will usually use them. This bike has stock HD 1200 heads with only a little cleaning of the ports and .600 lift beehive springs. It goes great and it will lift the front wheel off the ground but it is still a moderate build which is what I wanted. So I was not really concerned about HP's as much as just having a great running, fun XL which this bike is. It is great fun on the street and it can stay in the pack with many other HD's.

      @motorcycleridingandrepair1627  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you Peter! It is my main go-to bike that I ride on the street a lot! I built it to be relatively quick and very reliable. I never dynoed it but it feels like it is in the 80 HP range which makes it move very well and it is loads of fun. I geared it up a little also to try to better keep up on the top end with many of the 124 CI Baggers I ride with. If you have an XL that is 500 pounds at 80 HP and you are riding with next to a 800 pound bagger that has 110 HP's you should be about equal because the HP/Weight ratio is approximately 10 HP to 100 pounds.
