Sprinkling baking soda on the tub of the machine is not effective and is a common cleaning mistake. I’ll explain why. The dishwasher always does a quick pre rinse and then drains the water before the main wash that uses the heater or heating element and sprays the water for a while as the temperature increases where you’d want the cleaner or baking soda to to be in. Place baking soda IN the detergent cup and close it shut. Unless you know what cycle doesn’t run a pre rinse then it’s safe to dump it directly into the tub. Usually light cycles will not pre rinse. Be sure to clean your filter as well and wipe the bottom of the tub down before a hot cleansing empty cycle.
I did a lot of research on this before creating the video and you’re right that they do not recommend putting pure vinegar directly into the detergent compartment or spraying it directly on the dishwasher. But placing a bowl with some vinegar on the top rack of an empty dishwasher is seen as a safe way of cleaning a dishwasher since any of the vinegar leaving the bowl is going to be very diluted with water.
Very helpful thank you!! I saw that you did your research too. I liked one of the comments that says to put the baking soda in the spot for detergent. I’m going to try it that way. thank you so much! My dishwasher had never been cleaned and wasn’t draining and this is already doing the trick
Wash dishwasher once a month to maintain efficiency ~ 1. Place a dishwasher safe bowl on the top rack and fill it with white vinegar. Close the dishwasher and set it on the highest temperature wash. 2. Once done remove the bowl and sprinkle a cup of baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher. Shut the dishwasher and set it on the shortest wash. 3. Once that wash is done immediately open the washer and let it air dry for several hours. 4. You should also check the filter of the dishwasher every now and then.
I have this exact type of dishwasher and have taken filter out, cleaned out the nasty tank area the filter sits inside of and still cant get it to dry the dishes at the end of the cycle. Any ideals to try? I read somewhere not having rinse aid could cause this but ive almost never added rinse aid to the cycle so im extremely skeptical thats the issue.
baking soda should be put after the prewash cycle, first ~5-10mins. The prewash will use most of the soda, so in the main cycle, there will be little soda left for the cleaning effect it might be the same for vinegar
Did you know in Asian households in America we don't use the dishwasher as a dishwasher but as a drying rack? This is true only to those who are older but not the new generation of the Asian people here in America
Dishwashers are more efficient because they use less water. They are also more hygienic because they use water hotter than your skin could tolerate. Hopefully more people are willing to use dishwashers.
This is common in African households as well! We didn’t use ours for YEARS and would always hand dry. We recently bought a home BGG and are transitioning since it’s more efficient!
I found a easier way and helps to clean your pipes at the same time I use original CRL.... you just feel the dispenser all the way up put it on the hottest longest setting and your dishwasher stays clean up to 3 months

I wish I could attach the picture of the inside screen and filter of my dishwasher in my new home. Years worth of sludge. What was hiding underneath was beyond disgusting.
Thank you for getting straight to the point without intro babble.
Perfect way to sum it up, intro babble

Good straightforward video, good tips!
Thank you for this. Didnt want to spend $$ on cleaning tablets. Vinegar and baking soda are staple items in my home and it does a great job cleaning
The filters are a big one. If you dont pull both grim builds up and kills that tiny little pump
I was told by a fella who fixed washing machine’s and dishwasher’s that vinegar is not good on the tube’s as the acid burn’s though the rubber
Is going down diluted with hot water
Its not gonna do much if u used draino yes but vinegar is like 3% acid
As both people commented above, vinegar is already a very weak acid, which will then be diluted by the wash cycle.
He wants ur washing machine to keep being broken so u call him back
What does he recommend? And also, what about bleach?
Dishwasher manufacturers recommend not using vinegar, it damages the rubber seals and hoses

Actually whirlpool recommends that you use 2 glasses filled with vinegar and doing a normal wash with with no drying then using the baking soda method
Exactly what I needed today. I must clean my dishwasher…
I just use the dishwasher cleaning tablets. Affordable and easy.
The vinegar removes hard water buildup. Detergent usually has a neutral pH, so it can't do this effectively.

Thx for simplifying it. Hate watching a 5+ min video just to still be confused at the end lol
White vinegar is the Swiss Army knife of liquids

Citric acid is great for limescale removal.
I’m going to try this now
This is Awesome 😊

Same for Caribbeans and Africans 😂
That's a grea idea, never thought to use it as a drying rack for handwashed dishes. Do they close the door or leave it open?
@@sl4983 we close the door after we are done washing the dishes.

I'll put the baking soda in the cup also.

Vinegar will ruin all the rubber seals inside and outside. Will last 5 year's if your lucky before they all disintegrate
Vinegar dissolves the rubber parts🤦♀️

Vinegar destroyed my racks after about 2 years.
Why do you say “with” using an F? “Wiff”????
I know about self cleaning machines but not something like a dishwasher cleaning a dishwasher
Oh not again....
What kind of accent is that?

You're cleaning a fucking clean dishwasher
Do some research. Your dishwasher is full of mold and residue. They are not "clean" at all after some time of use.
I wish I could attach the picture of the inside screen and filter of my dishwasher in my new home. Years worth of sludge. What was hiding underneath was beyond disgusting.
@@jeantodd141 That's what I was thinking. I haven't checked it yet but oh boy
