I can remember the first time I heard Neil Diamond I was walking past my late brother's room and I hear "Cracklin' Rosie" I asked him who was singing he said Neil Diamond, that was almost 40 years ago after that I couldn't get enough of his music and the songs he written are timeless they will live forever, thank you Neil for your wonderful music 🎵.

Thanks Connie, that surely can be helpful. There have been sister figures along the way...and others too. You know what some say though...when someone passes on that was dear to us, they take a little of us with them, that noone can replace. Even my beloved dogs have done the same ! Forrest Gump came on CMT tonight, and the last time I saw the whole movie, was when it got released in the theaters ~ went with some friends. I had forgotten a few details, but it feels kind of full circle now, placing those scenes where they happened in 'real time' was a good refresher. I know that movie was nominated for awards :
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_accolades_received_by_Forrest_Gump
...& think Tom Hanks & maybe Sally F. too, need to look it up. My dad died when I was 17
(6 years later), and there was another whole 💔 mess of unfinished business there. Christy had it "goin' on", and without sounding melodramatic, she would have gone far in this world, and practically speaking, His ways are definitely not our ways, and I will leave it there. Everyone has a story. Thanks for your comment/suggestion 😊.

I just realized that this song was released 21 days before my 19 y.o. sister & friend, Christine (Christy) passed from leukemia (11/24/71), the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. A lot of things are not accidents at all, just a kiss from Heaven. I was 9, & still miss her a lot ~ Stones... .

@@rickonthestrip1870 Thank you so much Rick (on the srtip), I so appreciate the kind words. I was really struck 😪 by the emotion of Forrest's friend (Jenny), turned the love of his life...and can relate to her throwing those rocks, representing a lot of pain from her childhood-and finding the song set to those movie scenes, before listening to "Stones" on the album release from '71was also,,,I think-no accident. I am sure Neil's songs were all over the radio by then, but at 9, this song snuck by me with 🎵 Solitary Man, I Am I Said, I'm a Believer, Kentucky Woman & Cracklin' Rosie, etc., & others, that were more on the radar by then. I also believe she & I will have eternity ❤ to catch up for lost time; in the meantime, we encounter things like "Stones", that unearth buried feelings, which can actually be healing, even if it doesn't feel like that at 1st. Thanks again for reading my comment, & showing compassion 😊

Yeah, Stones is one of his good ones.......
Since you were around since the 60's, you may remember.........
If you like this song a lot, check out Walk On Water and Theme (The single, which went to #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and # 2 on the adult contemporary chart in late December, 1972 was entitled simply Walk On Water, but it is actually a combination of TWO songs, Walk On Water and Theme from the album Moods. Theme follows Walk On Water back to back continuously without a break on the album Moods--which is exactly how the two songs are actually supposed to sound. They combine to make one song, and it's the only way to hear them to do justice to the (combined) song. Walk On water WITHOUT Theme is NOT the same song.
If you can't find a way to do it any other way (and if you're like me and still have a CD player), get the album Moods--cheap on ebay or amazon, and just play the whole album, and you'll hear what Walk On Water/Theme is supposed to sound like.
Another awesome entry by Neil Diamond.

Karen, I am pretty sure it is my newfound FAV as well. It is just such a beautiful song; the lyrics are unmatched by any other song, (I love Neil's intro to the song & album). Stones speaks hope, comfort & there is (for me) a spiritual current running through it, ~ 🎵 "... A time for planting..., ...Lordy child..., ...A good day's comin'..." 🎵, & with that melody 💙 🎶 💎 ! There are lots of beautiful songs, but this is in a class of its own, as far as I'm concerned. I may have to reconsider that "The Story of my Life" is a tie, as I write this. Both of these songs evoke strong emotion, in a really powerful, yet wonderful way 😊 !

I don't usually think about this sorta thing a whole lot. but I want this played at my funeral. i don't even really want one. i told my kids the only people i want them to contact were the ones who were in contacted me within the last six months of my passing. And it will probably be a short list. I've learned it's better to just stay out of the way and yet remain available. I don't even really want a funeral in the traditional sense. just a quiet gathering at my home (which is where i intend to be buried).
But, more importantly, to me this song might as well be a biography and my relationship with JESUS.
"Being lost is worth the coming home..."
And like Jenny, it took a long time but I finally made my way back to someone who was always there, always loved me and never disappointed or hurt me. (though i find Lt. Dan more relatable on some things...)
I love my family sure, but they do or say things that hurt, and it often hurts forever, words and actions leave scars and teach you to be cautious. They don't even mean to do it.
But without that unconditional love from HIM, I would have given up a long long time ago.
I doubt anyone who even listens to it would make the connection, but that's ok. If they feel like they're the one who "let the light in" then that's good too. because they probably did at some point. And I'll make sure there are plenty of other songs to let them know that too.
anyway, just something that crossed my mind while listening. I even watched the movie all over again because of your video. my oldest son actually watched it with me - he was completely engrossed by it lol
    Simpler times?
    i don't know about that....

    • @rickonthestrip1870
      @rickonthestrip1870  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Wow, knowing my video inspired that time with you and your son means so much to me. I have an adopted little sister with a background similar to Jenny. Watching good TV together is healing and brings us closer to each other. We are currently watching "Ted Lasso" together, from the beginning, once a week (too make it last). That show just makes you happy.
Re: Funeral. Dylan said "If we're not busy being born, were busy dying". You have so much heart, and so much to give. Stay busy being born.
Family and memories are like playing cards. We can't control the hands we're dealt, but we can toss what we don't want back into the pile and look forward to the aces.
Accept nothing short of love from yourself or anyone else.
You are wise to put your trust in Christ. We are all in this alone together. When we lean on people they fall. When we lean on the creator - we rise and others can lean on us.
Sorry for the delayed reply. My videos don't usually get comments, so I wasn't checking them often. I will monitor them closer now. Your reply really touched me. Thank you!

being in love with an unloved girl is like trying to gentle a mustang. not just anyone can do it nor do most people really want to do it. and half the time when they try they just end up breaking that spirit even further. most of the time it's just better to leave them wild and let them come to you. Sorta like Jenny, I guess. She came to him in the end because he never tried to force her to submit.
