Wonderful discovery. It's a worthwhile journey finding his music. They just came out with a Broadway show called "A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Story " I'm a straight confident man but I know I couldn't sit through the show without an entire bedsheet to cry into LOL! His music and his story just hit me like that and the star of the show sounds astoundingly like Neil himself.

Compare this humble, wonderful artist.. this gifted song writer to say the arrogant Kanye West whose songs are a passing fancy soon to be left in the Dustbins of history...While sweet Caroline, Kentucky Woman, I Am I Said etc... are 50 years old and still played, listened and covered by others on a regular basis and still will be 50 years from now. Infinite thanks for your work. Your songs are ethereal, deep and at the same time so real, so full of feelings. I listen to your songs because they make me feel more human in this current, unreal and almost technologically precise world. Sometimes I cry when I listen the song I am I said, and let the tears distort the vision of the space around me, and I can really travel inside my heart and soul, it's an intense energy for just a fraction of seconds.. .. then I fly back to reality, and I think that I am lucky to be able to experience these feelings ...and thank you, Niel Diamond, so much for that.

I discovered Neil back in the 1960s and was mocked incessantly by my contemporaries when they discovered he was my favorite singer, I've never regretted it for one day. seeing him in concert was one of the highlights of my life. thanks for posting that interview Doug, can't believe I missed it when it came out...👍

Neil thanks to his strength of character ignored the taunts of the "in crowd, the Solitary Man stood firm and true to himself. Case in point, his shabby treatment by several musicians, including Ronnie Wood at 'The Last Waltz' concert. In spite of this, Neil gave a stellar performance of 'Dry Your Eyes'. No harassment was going to hold a dynamic performer down/back. He is so loved and respected. So glad to have been the one to bring this video to you. Heard this song on the radio a couple of times back in 1971, and I was hooked. I listened intently for the name of the singer and the song, and then headed out to my nearest music store. On arrival at the store, I discovered that this, to me then, unknown singer, had two albums (LPs). One was 'Sweet Caroline' and the other was 'Stones'. I then did something that I had never done before... I purchased not one, but both albums, my purchase being made solely on having heard only one song from this singer. This song so moved me..._ _"... I got an emptiness deep inside and I've tried but it won't let me go..."_ _The pain, the tortured cries. This was even more evident in 'I Am... I Said (Reprise)'. Neil's voice, his sincerity and pain, tugged at my heartstrings; he touched my soul. I felt his loss, his pain, for I too, was experiencing those emotions (The story's the same one). Thank you for sharing this excellent interview of Neil with Barbara Walters. It was the first time that I heard him talk so well of Marcia and his highs and lows of being in love and the experiences with her during the sixteen years at that time. Neil seems so comfortable with the great Barbara Walters.

Great interview. What a lovely human being producing some of the most memorable songs in my life’s journey. I remember when I was living in the US for a few years walking around a CVS one morning and Sweet Caroline came on in the background music and the whole store erupted into song !! It was magical. Thank you Neil. I never missed his concerts when he came to the UK and was privileged to be there at what turned out to be his last one ever although we did not know it at the time. I send him love.

Having had the privilege of seeing the new musical "A Beautiful Noise" on Broadway last week, I'm now realizing that some of the elements seem to be taken from this interview. The musical's backdrop is an elderly Neil speaking to a therapist, who asks him many of the same questions that Barbara did in this interview. Wonderful to watch, thank you for posting it.

As you may have discovered, I've been intensively occupied for the past week on my latest upload. Veronica and I attended a concert last Sunday where our granddaughter, Gemma, performed 'Blackbird' on her guitar... *HEAVENLY!* Had an impact on me, so much so that even after we got home I couldn't get the song out of my head. Decided I _had_ to create a video of the song. It was only then, through research, that I discovered the inspiration for the song. Take care, Doug

Pat Grover I have been trying to figure out why he is so appealing. I think it's because he has charisma in general, but a lot of that comes from this projection of pure virility. He has a deep baritone voice, he has a lot so hair and he postures is very masculine ways with the guitar, almost like it was a weapon. I think he uses it as a prop that adds drama to his great showmanship. And it's not over the top. It's just right. Apparently everyone agrees. Or at least has a song they like that was written and or sung by Neil Diamond.

I must be a fan. I play and own all his music on vinyl and CD. Also, 1 concert on VHS and DVD. then an episode of the 1965 TV show Mannix, Were Neil played himself. I have been to 4 concerts, since the 1980's.

A great musician and singer/songwriter. Such a humble man. Neil Diamond and John Denver were always my favorites. I remember as a teen putting his music in the record player and cranking it up in the evenings as my mom and I would listen to him while we fixed the evening dinner. Dad would come in from work and just look at us and let us know he could hear the music clear into the garage as he got out of the car. Lol! I asked him once if he enjoyed what he heard. He said yes! By then the album was on the last song and dinner was on the table. Some nights we ate on trays and watched TV. But always Neil’s music made life seem better, even sweeter. I have a GG-Grandmother Caroline, and my GG-Grandfather loved her so much because she was the sweetest woman he had ever met. And everyone called her Sweet Caroline. I sing that song and think of them long ago. Thanks Neil! God bless you wherever you are right now. You made the world a more beautiful place to live in.

As a songwriter, multi-instrumental musician, and classically trained singer, I totally get what Neil meant about wanting _others_ to perform his songs. I agonize over getting my lyrics just right, and the best way to serve the _songs_ would be to match them with singers whose voices are just right _for_ them. Side Note: When I was growing up, "The Jazz Singer" soundtrack album was a regular fixture in my house, and as a result, Neil Diamond is one of my biggest influences as a songwriter...particularly as a lyricist. It's a shame there aren't more like him in _today's_ music market.

Infinite thanks for your work. Your songs are ethereal, deep and at the same time so real, so full of feelings. I listen to your songs because they make me feel more human in this current, unreal and almost technologically precise world. Sometimes I cry when I listen the song I am I said, and let the tears distort the vision of the space around me, and I can really travel inside my heart and soul, it's an intense energy for just a fraction of seconds.. .. then I fly back to reality, and I think that I am lucky to be able to experience these feelings ...and thank you, Niel Diamond, so much for that.

I discovered Neil back in the 1960s and was mocked incessantly by my contemporaries when they discovered he was my favorite singer, I've never regretted it for one day. seeing him in concert was one of the highlights of my life. thanks for posting that interview Doug, can't believe I missed it when it came out...👍

Neil thanks to his strength of character ignored the taunts of the "in crowd, the Solitary Man stood firm and true to himself. Case in point, his shabby treatment by several musicians, including Ronnie Wood at 'The Last Waltz' concert. In spite of this, Neil gave a stellar performance of 'Dry Your Eyes'. No harassment was going to hold a dynamic performer down/back. He is so loved and respected. So glad to have been the one to bring this video to you. _"I Am... I Said". This has to be my absolute favourite Neil Diamond song. Heard this song on the radio a couple of times back in 1971, and I was hooked. I listened intently for the name of the singer and the song, and then headed out to my nearest music store. On arrival at the store, I discovered that this, to me then, unknown singer, had two albums (LPs). One was 'Sweet Caroline' and the other was 'Stones'. I then did something that I had never done before... I purchased not one, but both albums, my purchase being made solely on having heard only one song from this singer. This song so moved me..._
_"... I got an emptiness deep inside and I've tried but it won't let me go..."_
_The pain, the tortured cries. This was even more evident in 'I Am... I Said (Reprise)'. Neil's voice, his sincerity and pain, tugged at my heartstrings; he touched my soul. I felt his loss, his pain, for I too, was experiencing those emotions (The story's the same one). I was hooked... a fan for life._

time. Neil seems so comfortable with the great Barbara Walters.

As for Neil being so comfortable with Barbara Walters, it is obvious that as a consequence of his four-year sabbatical and multiple sessions with his psychoanalyst that Neil emerged a more confident and relaxed person.

Great interview. What a lovely human being producing some of the most memorable songs in my life’s journey. I remember when I was living in the US for a few years walking around a CVS one morning and Sweet Caroline came on in the background music and the whole store erupted into song !! It was magical. Thank you Neil. I never missed his concerts when he came to the UK and was privileged to be there at what turned out to be his last one ever although we did not know it at the time. I send him love.

Saw 'The Jazz Singer' in South Africa when l was 18 yrs old and l was smitten by this beautiful man❤ Watching interviews with his smooth and sexy voice makes me feel like my soul knows him. Wish he still did tours, would love to see him before l die. Seen MJ, Prince, Tina, BB and would give anything to see him too....nostalgic music from my childhood ❤❤❤

Having had the privilege of seeing the new musical "A Beautiful Noise" on Broadway last week, I'm now realizing that some of the elements seem to be taken from this interview. As you may have discovered, I've been intensively occupied for the past week on my latest upload. Veronica and I attended a concert last Sunday where our granddaughter, Gemma, performed 'Blackbird' on her guitar... *HEAVENLY!* Had an impact on me, so much so that even after we got home I couldn't get the song out of my head. Pat Grover I have been trying to figure out why he is so appealing. I think it's because he has charisma in general, but a lot of that comes from this projection of pure virility. He has a deep baritone voice, he has a lot so hair and he postures is very masculine ways with the guitar, almost like it was a weapon. I think he uses it as a prop that adds drama to his great showmanship. And it's not over the top. It's just right. Apparently everyone agrees. Or at least has a song they like that was written and or sung by Neil Diamond.

I must be a fan. I play and own all his music on vinyl and CD. Also, 1 concert on VHS and DVD. then an episode of the 1965 TV show Mannix, Were Neil played himself. I have been to 4 concerts, since the 1980's.

A great musician and singer/songwriter. Such a humble man. Neil Diamond and John Denver were always my favorites. I remember as a teen putting his music in the record player and cranking it up in the evenings as my mom and I would listen to him while we fixed the evening dinner. Dad would come in from work and just look at us and let us know he could hear the music clear into the garage as he got out of the car. Lol! I asked him once if he enjoyed what he heard. He said yes! By then the album was on the last song and dinner was on the table. Some nights we ate on trays and watched TV. But always Neil’s music made life seem better, even sweeter. I have a GG-Grandmother Caroline, and my GG-Grandfather loved her so much because she was the sweetest woman he had ever met. And everyone called her Sweet Caroline. I sing that song and think of them long ago. Thanks Neil! God bless you wherever you are right now. You made the world a more beautiful place to live in.

As a songwriter, multi-instrumental musician, and classically trained singer, I totally get what Neil meant about wanting _others_ to perform his songs. I agonize over getting my lyrics just right, and the best way to serve the _songs_ would be to match them with singers whose voices are just right _for_ them. Side Note: When I was growing up, "The Jazz Singer" soundtrack album was a regular fixture in my house, and as a result, Neil Diamond is one of my biggest influences as a songwriter...particularly as a lyricist. It's a shame there aren't more like him in _today's_ music market.
