Scale is an arbitrary factor applied to a model, they didn't make multiple sized models. Otherwise what do you think the video means when it says "there's no size limit"? that they made an infinite range of differently sized models?
If I recall correctly, only a small % of majora's masks is new to that game. It was basically a giant asset flip. Sure, that sounds bad and lazy, but it works because majora uses them in unique ways. @@generichuman_ n64 variables are more memory/ram based than they are engine based on the n64. If a crash were to happen, the issue isn't the games engine, since the engine can actually output many MANY things more powerful than the n64 can handle. Software limitations in *this* context only exist in a modern world where hardware is powerful enough to tank variables large enough for the software to crash in the first place. In the nintendo 64, you would almost certainly run into a hardware issue (memory, the processor not being able to handle moving polygons that big over such large coordinates?) before you could ever get even close to doing so on a computer, which means that for the game, in its home environment, the only real limitation to the size of a stal child SHOULD be hardware, unless you are using either an emulator or the unlicensed PC port. To be specific, In the context of the Nintendo 64 and its hardware limitations, the size and complexity of in-game elements like characters or objects are constrained by the available memory, processing power, and other hardware limitations. The Nintendo 64 had limited resources compared to modern computers, and game developers had to optimize their code and assets to fit within those constraints. In the case of the Stalchildren in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, their size is almost entirely limited by the available memory and processing power of the Nintendo 64. If the game were to generate excessively large or complex entities, it could lead to performance issues, crashes, or other undesirable consequences due to the hardware limitations. Today's computers can handle much more complex calculations and larger datasets, reducing the likelihood of encountering crashes or limitations of hardware related to variables size in typical scenarios. You have to consider the historical context and the specific limitations of the Nintendo 64 when discussing the technical aspects of games developed for that platform.
Yeah I’ve seen a video where the hardware caps at like 999 size or something so when you spawn the next stalchd the game freaks out and sets the number to negative and the game freezes. Pretty neat.
Just when I thought I knew everything in this game and explored every corner of the world, there are still videos like this one that show me that I have a lot to discover still ..
You don't even have to kill the Stalchild for them to grow. I was playing yesterday and running around Hyrule and eventually large ones showed up from spawning.
Fun fact about the Ocarina of Time Randomizer: If you enabled fast Bunny Hood in the setup, get the Bunny Hood and wear it at night, Stalchildren don't spawn at all. Idk if this goes for all masks in Ocarina of Time, changing Link's model to one that doesn't trigger Stalchild spawning, or if the trigger is removed by a version of the Bunny Hood that has properties unfamiliar to OoT, but it's a neat little thing that makes the Bunny Hood one of my favorite items to find early.
@@xJC4Rx I THINK there's a Gossip stone or something that hints at it talking about the bunny hood making you light on your feet, the idea being that the Stalchildren don't notice Link's footsteps and thus don't dig themselves out of the ground. I might be wrong and just misremembering of course.
@@Enixon869 My comment is 4 months old, so I don't recall exactly what I was thinking. But I feel like my dyslexia kicked in and I didn't realise he was talking about the Randomizer. With the Randomizer it makes sense because you're moving too fast. Stalchildren despawn if you get far enough away from them, and with fast bunny hood, it probably rejects the opportunity for them to even spawn. Maybe it was intentional? But it's certainly easy to believe that it could be base programming too.
Fun fact: Captain Keeta in Majora’s Mask shares a model with the largest version of the Giant Stalchild in OoT. Also, if you manage to challenge and beat Captain Keeta, you’ll win his Captain’s Hat. While wearing this, Stalchildren and Redeads will no longer attack you. Instead, Stalchildren will salute you, and Redeads will actually dance. Neat!
There was a rumor going around when I was a child that it was possible to face a gigantic stalchild out in Hyrule Field. Not the stalchild boss in MM, but one as big as that in OOT. I guess it really was based in truth, because it actually is possible.
