Hi Craig, I'm actually replacing the Anti-Roll bar bushes on my Punto Active and was looking for the Jack points and came across this video of an oil change, little tip i thought might be useful in future, you have a funnel for putting new oil in, grab yourself an old funnel for taking it out too, just cut off some of the bendy end and feed your Allen key through it before you attach the tyre lever, you may need to cut the rim of the funnel if you use the short end of the allen key (best option due to more leverage) but not if you poke the long end (not ideal). That way you cut down on spillage & catch the bolt if you need to remove it completely without getting to much oil all over the place.
Oil change with filter in each FIRE engine is possible without a jack. I changed the oil in Punto 2, Panda, GP, EVO. Engines from 1.1 - 1.4. Access to the filter is from both the top and the bottom.
+tomasmalin Try turning it, if it turns a little you will know you can remove it - it won't leak oil until it's removed further. So long as you don't pierce the can in trying, you can't really go wrong. My case was a bit unique, it hadn't been changed in a long time and was apparently over-tightened by previous mechanic. Usually they come off easily with an oil filter wrench.
You should check oil with the engine off for a while. Otherwise oil is distributed through the engine and the level under-reads, meaning you will overfill it.
hi have you ever change your gearbox oil? I own a X reg Cvt with 105k miles and I'm thinking of changing it myself hoping to get another 50k out of the gearbox.
I have done this about 8 times on my punto and every single time i manage to spill oil while trying to remove that plug without dropping it in the oil.
Thanks for this , got all the kit , nice bank holiday , fell at the first fence , the 12mm socket on mine is actually a 12 mm torx so ive been driving around for an hr and no one sells them separately just in sets for about £25 , so ill have another search around in morning , I'm assuming someone has replaced mine with an aftermarket because they appear to usually be as you say an allen/hex key, Dealers have them but they are closed today with it being a Bank Holiday
Got it done , it took me just over an hr ( after 2 days looking for bit and with tools , oil , it cost about £30 with is probably just a bit less that garage doing it however its another skill that ive gained so im happy , thanks for advice
Nice, clear video but I would add the following. Prime the filter with fresh oil. This will reduce the time it takes to fill once the engine starts and reduces the risk of fuel starvation. After pouring in the oil, start and run the engine for 5 mins, do your leak checks at this point then turn off and let the oil settle and do any required top up BEFORE taking the car for a drive. Doesn't your drain plug have a removable seal/gasket? If so, I would renew that. They only cost a few pence.
Thanks. You can't pre-fill the oil filter because it installs horizontally. You could potentially prime it by removing ignition / fuel supply and cranking, but if you haven't left the motor sitting with no oil for a long time then there remains sufficient oil on surfaces throughout the engine that you won't do adverse wear.
+Craig's DIY Car Jobs If you take a look through my recent videos where I do an oil and filter change on a Kawasaki Versys, I show how even horizontal filters can be primed with oil. You just fill it half to two thirds full and just leave it for a few minutes to let the oil soak into the filter media then screw it in place as normal. It's at around 5 minutes 30 secs. Hope that helps.
Are you close the oil filter by hand? I usually close the filter whith key and you know when the filter are close when the filter is closed by hand and you need to turn to other 3/4 with the key sorry for my english
+Fabrizio Fina Correct. You only need to tighten by hand. If you are tightening as hard as you can by hand and then turning a further 3/4 with a wrench, it is now over-tight and you may have problems removing in the future.
Can i just ask a question , at approx 4:01 you can see a collar on the exhaust off the manifold before it reaches the flexipipe , mine has the also but its rotten , it doesnt seem to serve a purpose , is it some sort of bracket as mine isnt attached to anything
Are you referring to the flanges on the exhaust header downpipe where it mates to the same on the flexipipe? It's the joint where the two sections are bolted together.
Or you mean the bracket a few inches forward of the joint. If you look at 11:08 (bottom right of frame) you can see it looks like it's bolted to the engine or gearbox.

Thank you Craig I used to attend a motor vehicle course in college 2 years ago and recorgnise all your procedures step by step
it's called a mechanic
it's called a mechanic
Thank you man, one hug from brasil

who disliked this ffs, good well done video thanks.
thank you very much Craig! DIY will never die
Very helpful. At 4:58 you meant to say - "the warmer, the oil the LESS viscous (thick) it will be."
Thumbs up for passing the test...
Great guide.
Ótimo vídeo.
Thank you for such a good and helpful video
Great video, very helpful. Shame on the ham fisted tool that overtightened the sump plug/filter.
I like it that you didn't use any professional tools, your video encourages me to try it. I am just afraid that the oil filter will be stuck.

So...it's done! Thank you very much for your video, it helped me very much. The oil filter was stuck but sandpaper helped. :-)
Could you please do a video of how to check and fix oil leak.
Lovely job easier than I thought but does the 1200 differ to yours or is your fiat the 1200 too if I'm honest I haven't really looked at mine yet
Perfect simple show oil chainge.
Good
Dobre reflektory masz, to chyba nie są fabrycznie, tylko byly już wymienione .
it is a good idea to check the dipstick after you have the engine running for a minute . usually you need the add ore oil

If i only change the Filter, does the whole oil comes out of the old Filter ?
No, only the oil in the filter housing will come out so this is quite pointless. Why can't you change the oil?

That's unfortunate. You can order bits individually online but presumably you don't want to wait.

Of course I meant oil starvation not fuel. 👍☺

what is the aln key size used to drain an mk1 punto 1.242 8V oil sump? :\
I think it's a 12 mm

Hallo.sorry 4 bad engels my quesion is when a drive letf or right i hear every time sound bod sides you know maybe what is the problem thank you
You need to start the engine to let the oil filter fill and then check the level .
Is it shell helix hx7 most better oil we can use in our petrol engines 1.2 fiat punto?
It doesn't really matter, just buy a reputable brand of the correct type.
Old Indian trick to get the oil filter off knock a screw driver through the filter , can be a bit messy but , it works if you're stuck.
Until you end up with half a shredded filter still stuck on there. If it's that stuck, the filter walls are not that strong.

tnx for help
very relaxing video to watch I must say but please wear some gloves next time around lol.
11:48 forbiden pepsi
This is a 16 valves engine, 8v will be different
The tires are bad... You must to change them!
