I am Māori and enjoyed seeing your reactions to a small part of my culture. Like yourselves, the Māori are trying to retain to their culture which was affected when the English came. It is important to remember our heritage, there are many traditions and perspectives the Europeans did not think important, but we know otherwise. Congratulations on your beautiful new set, please continue to share your culture with us as it is important that tribal peoples of the world keep the traditions alive.
here in mexico, we are also going trough this process. and i think one of the positive forces for this, is the internet, as it is a very good platform that anyone can use.

@@OmniMale From what I have learned, there are many different hakas for many different occasions. Some are greetings. Some are warnings or threats. But, to me, they all look threatening.
Whatever the reason, they are all very impressive. Kinda stirs a primal space. A "warrior born" kind of spot. Like when I hear scottish pipes and drums. It makes me want to grab something and start swinging.

Someone please explain to this person that he can just display these items in some fancy art Gallery within USA and people will grab these things up for a lot of money. Look at these people bought Andy warhol's Campbell soup labels then they're going to buy something beautiful like this. I know a lot of people from South American culture that's so their designs in galleries within USA for lots of money. Not only would there be an opportunity to sell these things but more importantly it would bring attention to the culture. Everybody here in this comment section knows this stuff would sell like freaking crazy. I only wish this was an infomercial or was on QVC right now. I want my percentage hahaha
@@choice12ozborne You can find these goods in specialized stores and it tends to be amazingly cheap (a lot more expensive than it is in their country but relatively cheap by US standards). That being said, it would be nice if some items were available in the channel's store along with the generic stuff. It is truly beautiful.

I really wished you showed the wedding Haka video that's become popular. The brides emotions as she sees her family embracing their union and then she and her husband joins in is one of the most beautiful moments I've seen in years

I came here to mention the wedding haka too! There's another moving one with a whole high school performing a haka in memory of their teacher who passed away. Honestly there's so many great videos.
One that I personally love a lot is from the Standing Rock protests, when some Maori people came from the other side of the world and performed a haka in the snowy Dakota landscape in support of their indigenous brothers and sisters.

Traditionally the Haka is a war dance. However, it is also used to celebrate weddings, birthdays and a life lost. Your are completely right that to perform it for visitors is a sign of respect and I’m glad that you understood that. Props bro you’re doing an amazing job spreading cultural enlightenment. Do you mind if I ask you a question, how do they all know what the choreography is? I've watched a few of the Haka videos on TH-cam and the dance and words always seem different, but everyone knows it! Do they practice beforehand or is it a group of dances you learn as children? Thank you for taking the time to answer, I think it's one of the most beautiful pieces of any culture I've ever witnessed!!
@@colesuqs If You're Maori then 9 times out of 10 you learnt the Haka as a kid which is usually the Haka from your respected area and tribe in new Zealand, For example, My iwi (tribe) is Ngati Porou, we're the light skin, colored eyed maori from the east and we have Haka exclusive to our Tribe and others exclusively for theirs. then there are universal Haka for all people of all tribes and nations. but the original haka for the main iwi of new zealand (which there are a few) dates back to the old times long before the white men invaded our land.

Having a person of that nationality greet you or perform the Haka for you is a great honor and is the highest show of respect they know. I've seen a Haka done at an airport for a young girl returning home, it was amazing

Btw the 😛 face that looks like they're about to fight someone? It's called a pūkana, which generally refers to the eyes being widened and dilated

Not greeting "the Haka" is a war dance, meant to be intimidating. The NZ people live in houses, this is the traditional dress, not worn everyday, for ceremonies. Every NZ resident learns the Haka, they have other dances. There is another dance for greeting.

Other countrys from polinesia like Samoans , Tonga and Fiji do have their own type of haka too. (there is some videos where both teams make the haka at the same time which is really cool to see)

Fiji is in Melanesia, along with Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and more. There is also Micronesia too, like Kiribati, Marshall Islands, FSM, and more. We're all nesians for sure, but we're all proud of our different nesian regions.

Ahhh beautiful, as a New Zealander I think you've done a wonderful job of looking at this tradition. The only thing I'd say is that those two haka in particular are more like challenges or intimidation, than the haka used for greeting or celebrating important people or events.

There are large gatherings known as powwows, where natives of various tribes perform their ceremonial dances. Lots of great videos of those.
Those tribal ceramics are incredible! I must go back and watch the video featuring them, and show it to my wife. She is a sculptor and potter, and in fact, I'm joining her after I leave work at a party where she and other artists will be firing their work in a kiln. Perhaps she needs one of these as a Christmas gift?

@@TRYBALS Just be sure to not take videos from tribes and events that don't appreciate being filmed! IIRC, some of the dances and traditions are closed and not meant to be shared. Obviously there are hundreds of tribes of indigenous people in America, so there most definitely are some that are alright with it, but please make sure that the videos filmed were taken with permission by the dancers and the event!
@@TRYBALS there are many styles of native american dancing across many regions. There is a women's style called Jingle Dancing - and the dresses are so wonderful. Covered in small bells. Every step is music

And being open minded while still loving their own culture! Here in America, a lot of people act as you can't do both. Or act as if all other cultures are to be appreciated except those of Northern and Western Europeans. Some even act as if people from those places don't *have* cultures. It's sad because we're losing touch with our history.
I totally agree with you. First you have to know, understand and love your own culture. Then you can understand why other people love their culture. This world is so beautiful and diverse, I cannot get enough of travel. For me it is a wonderful world and a beautiful gift of a loving God. ❤

You've done an impressive job making the studio stand out and reflect your own country. Hope you are able to get the second camera as it allows more angles and focuses. The first time I ever watched one, the hair stood up all over my arms and legs. It was a total fear reaction. I still find it intimidating. If that's the goal, it is certainly effective!

There's a video on TH-cam of a wedding and the bride's brothers did a Haka to welcome the husband into the family. I cry every time.
I dont know why people romantisize this aggressive dance. These people are statistically very violent and aggressive in modern society and were that way before the English came. In tribal wars all the time and practicing cannibalism and slavery if their own people

The Haka is traditionally a challenge, to determine if someone is friend or foe. It is used for visitors and in many contexts. When a dignitary arrives at a meeting place, afeather is put down for the visitor to pick up, while the warrior keeps a close eye on them. It is quite intimidating. The men are not acting, they embody the role completely.

Before (though it's not true) there was an impression that these reactions were only about the members learning about the world. Now it's clear that, through their reactions, they're also teaching us about their own cultures and perspectives.

Just as you show, share, and teach the people of your tribe about different cultures, your videos are teaching people all around the world. I am happy to see the new room. It is beautiful, and I cannot wait to learn more about your lives and culture!
I can't recall the exact name of it, but I lived in New Zealand for about two years and was told there were different types of haka's. The one they use in rugby has a specific meaning which is something similar to 'I respect you but I am going to fight you'.
Abdul is always so good at reading expressions. He doesn't talk much so I have to ask for his opinions most of the times because I can't miss his accurate translation of the human facial expressions.
Yeah like most Hakas are a respectful challenge, even their war ones basically mean: " I pray you are a worthy and skilled opponent so the gods will smile when I spill your blood" . There's also a popular video of a wedding haka where the brides family are challenging her husband while giving him their approval, my friend translated it to something like "son what are you afraid of? All you need to succeed is already inside you so go forth and challenge death". It's an interesting culture
i think the ones that the All blacks do are called "Kamate, Kamate" and the one from 2005 that they do in special ocasions called "Kapa O Pango"

The All Blacks do one of two different haka depending on the occasion.
The most common one is Te Raupara's haka "Ka mate", the first one shown in this video. That's used for most international matches (they're called tests, don't ask me, I don't know). Te Rauparaha was a chief of the Ngati Toa people. He was being chased by some men who wanted to kill him, and a woman hid him in a pit used for storing kūmara (sweet potatoes). After they were gone he did this haka to celebrate the fact that he was still alive.
Really important games like tournament finals and when they're playing overseas get the second one -- Kapa o Pango "Line of Black".This haka was composed specifically for the All Blacks and is an expression of their strength and readiness for the game.
That said, sometimes they'll decide to do one or the other for reasons known only to them. Sometimes it's a surprise.
I love that they picked up that it is a show of their strength and respect. It would be great to see them react to some other hakas, like the videos out there of a haka for a family member returning home, or performed at a wedding. These are very moving as well.

As an Australian...who lives right next door to New Zealand...we LOVE the Haka! Our sports teams often face each other and the New Zealanders always perform the Haka before battle... and us Aussies absolutely love it! They are our enemies on the sports field, but our brothers in our hearts. If ANYONE was to touch our Maori brothers we would gladly give our lives defending them. There is a competitive hatred between us but make no mistake, New Zealand is our brother and we have always, and will always, be together against all invaders. No one has more spiritual respect for the Maori than a skip...much love to our warrior brothers across the ditch. X

I don't watch sports but I remember there was a video that showed the Maori performing a haka, and I'm not sure which nation of indigenous Australians met them on the field and did a spear dance in response (or it was the spears first and the haka second), followed by them exchanging gifts before the teams went on the field.
I really wish more traditional aboriginal culture would be showcased here in Australia too. Here in Melbourne we have the Djirri Djirri dancers of the Wurundjeri peoples performing fairly often, and it's always a treat to see them dance and sing outside the State Library.

I'm not sure how to words this right bit that soccer or it is Football team don't they always preform The HAKA at each game as is it something that is expected from that team. Please note I am an American and do not watch sports that much. However I do know that The HAKA has so many meanings depending the situation

Thank you, yeah the chairs were most expensive from everything we have it there but it also comes with a two seater sofa too and we've ordered another set of chairs and stools which they'll make from wheat straws. It's also expensive as they craft it by hand and could take up to 10 days to make two chairs, two stools and a table. Besides, the ceramic work was also expensive but I'm happy as all of those things are crafted by hand by artisans. Oh, do you see the Priest King statue I put there? I'm sure you already know that I sculpted that myself in 2017 😃 I'm almost broke now lol and I've got to get more cameras too, the one focusing on the reactor is not mine and I have to return it soon. I feel happy to be in front of you guys and this will create a positive impression on people watching the videos I believe. I come from the same culture and background. About Parvati, I tried my bests each time to give her a feeling that it's ok to be yourself, to feel as you want, everything. I tried my very bests, that's all I could say.

@@TRYBALS I suggest your audience send video messages showing how much we miss Parvati's insights and how much value she adds, basically to boost her self confidence. Invite Parvati one day and play her these messages so that she can see for herself that she is valued. I believe this is what she needs, she must get to know her audience in a tangible way. Perhaps a Q &A session?

This is my new favorite channel! I love the thoughtful insight from each person and seeing the host was great, I wondered what you looked like and your calm voice matches your peaceful face. Your studio is simply beautiful! The vibrant colors, the intricate designs on the dishes, the woven mats. It's so much better than the plain background of past videos. Makes me feel immersed in the culture. I laughed when Muharam Khan Bughio worried that he wouldn't be able to scratch an itch, but at Adnan Ali stated, we are all human, so no one will judge!

I love how you helped ease them into the concept by relating it to something within your own culture. While some people might like seeing raw, face-value reactions (the Haka IS terrifying to behold) there's something so much more wholesome about seeing them being surprised and yet at the same time accepting an entirely different culture.
The studio is simply gorgeous! You have really outdone yourselves. It makes me pine for the cultures my ancestors shed when they came to the United States, which was a very common thing to do. How much history and tradition we lost. It is sad when someone, for whatever reason or cause, loses their culture. I love seeing so much of yours very much alive and thriving.

I am so glad to see you are showing the tribal people videos of other indigenous/ tribal people from different parts of the world! I would love to see more videos in the future of them reacting to different indigenous people from around the world. I would especially like to see what they have to say about Native American peoples. Some good search terms are "pow wow grand entry", "pow wow fancy dancers" or "jingle dress dancers".

I love your new setup! I hadn't noticed that you got a second channel. I'll be checking that one out later. With your comments about learning about other cultures art and music made me think of what you could see from my country (The Netherlands). All I could think of was a draaiorgel (literal translation: turn organ [the instrument]). Before covid one of them would play at a nearby shopping street every fryday (I could hear it from my home). It's an odd instrument and basically any song can be played on it (very odd to hear Lady Gaga in that form).

Love the new studio setup! It’s so beautiful and engaging! I’d want to walk around it and look at everything. This was so cool! I love seeing the Haka performed and I can only hope to see it in person someday. I’m glad they were able to appreciate it!

Beautiful set. The locals also performed a welcoming Haka for the cast and crew of the Lord of the Rings when they started filming in New Zealand. Some of that is in the Appendices for the extended version. very cool. As are the reactions in this video.

The Rock is Samoan and he has relatives in the WWE today, who has the same tribal tattoo who are in the same culture as him. WWE Jimmy and Jey Uso did their Haka Dance many years ago as their entrance on WWE and it was awesome way to show their culture that way. You can check out videos on TH-cam of Jimmy and Jey Uso's Haka Dance at the live event's they had doing that.
I used to be a huge WWE fan lol and that's where I discovered most of my favorite bands too before we had the internet here lol. Yeah, might come as a surprise but WWE is very much popular here.

@@TRYBALS The only closest WWE has been from Pakistan was India when they have live events there. Because I have no idea how often WWE comes to foreign countries. All I know is that they travel a lot to different countries around the world.
There is a different tradition for welcoming guests onto the Marae, where a woman sings you in called a A pōwhiri. It is a Māori welcoming ceremony, involving whaikōrero (formal speech) , waiata (singing) and kai (food). The Haka, is a challenge, not a welcome.
A haka can also be part of a powhiri. My marae and greater iwi have specific ones depending on who is visiting (same iwi or different). Neither of these were on a marae. There are also multiple waita and speakers at a powhiri. Yes the karanga sung by the most important woman and then received by the other groups most important woman. The waita come later. There is like 6-9 steps to a powhiri and haka can be part of it.

Eh depends on the occasions. There are a lot of different types of haka. The one you do at a powhiri (greeting ceromony) is different to a sports field/competition, celebration or a funeral. Haka is a hroad term.
Would be great if waita performances (songs) could be given the same level of recognition internationally. But then would they be reduced to just 'battle cries'

Hello! I've only very recently discovered your channel, but I enjoy and love it very much! I appreciate learning new points of view, and I also love seeing the representation of your culture as you explore other people's cultures as well. I wanted to thank you very much for letting us be a part of and learn more of your history withe your new studio!
I'm also of Māori descent, and though my dad is from the Cook Islands (a small group of Polynesian Islands located in the South Pacific Ocean) he grew up in New Zealand. I'm not an expert in the culture myself, but from what I understand and what my dad has told me is that the Haka was a challenge preformed by New Zealand tribes before battle, as a sign of respect towards their opponents. As the game of rugby became more popular, the Haka was preformed at the start of matches with a similar meaning, as they challenge you but also show their respect as their opponent.
The first Haka at 3:49 is an older Haka (I believe it's named Kamate Kamate), and the clothing they wear is that of the traditional, male Māori warrior. The markings on their face is known as a 'Ta Moko', a special tattoo that helped signify the person's ancestry and I think their position within the village. Males typically had a full face tattoo, while females tended to have a tattoo over their lips and the middle of their chin, directly below the mouth.
The second Haka at 5:48 (and this is only if I'm remembering correctly) was created more recently by the All Blacks, New Zealand's rugby team.
