Different part of the country and different tribes/nations, but one of the most impressive things I've ever seen was the native horse races at the Eastern Idaho State Fair. Young men racing bareback and leaping on and off the still running horses after their laps. One horse lost its rider, but kept running the race and came in second 🐎

Most tribes did get wiped out. Killed off. Hundreds of tribes, with hundreds, or thousands of people. Our dresses are made by us ourselves . We don't go to a store to buy them. An no we do not wear these dresses an did not wear them every day. even before our country was taken we had different clothing. In india its really hot. But not in many places in America. Our clothes would change depending on the time of year. The feathers we wear are earned and given to us usually, either by a tribal leader or elder. They are sacred. Hope i would answer most of your questions. I, myself are from two tribes, Mashpee Wampanoag, and Tiano. I can to Kerala India back in November for marriage. I've watch this channel for many years now. It would be awesome if i could meet you guys. I do plan on taking a trip up to north India soon.
Grew up going to powwows in my home town. There were like 3/4 groups in my community and a hand full of dancers. And I can tell you the regalia they wore are very very expensive. Each dance designed their own regalia and yes each regalia is different each have their own 4-5 colours they use. Is very complex
The largest living thing on Earth are the Sequoyah trees in California. They are names after a cheif of the 7 Cherokee tribes. He created the written language of their language. He also established ta school system Due to him, the Cherokees are the only tribes to establish diplomatic relations withthe US government and exchange ambassadors.
Their family usually gets them started dancing. Their are Hindu statues in South America and the history is a mystery but I noticed my friends from India on Facebook were on exactly opposite time 12 hours apart so halfway around the globe I got the globe at work and sure enough you can draw a straight line from India to South America and they say that the antarctic used to be warm and had navigable rivers
I went to the pow wow there this year. They are wearing regalia. Each item is sacred and each color means something to the wearer. You cannot buy these garments. They make their own and trade among each other for items. Everything is made in a state of prayer. The singing is traditional. The women dance jungle dance for healing. There is also shawl dance. The men do fancy dance, chicken dance, and grass dance. All sacred. They are wonderful people. They are not great in numbers anymore. Nations that were millions strong are thousands. Many tribes were wiped out. Colonizers took all that they had and only gave them the most desolate areas or cut them down to a parcel of what they had. They are truly gracious to dance under the American flag and to pay homage to America. I recommend you go and experience this. Also see the play “Unto these Hills” that tells the story of the 1500 who hid in the mountains while their tribe was forced to walk into the west - the Trail of tears where 1/3 or more if their nation perished. Also see the traditional village and hear the tour with lectures thru the day. Truly amazing. Heartbreaking. Beautiful. Enjoy the park in Cherokee and splash about the river with them! Great for summer cool downs!
Your regalia is often gifted to you. People also make their own regalia or family members and community members make them for you. There are different styles depending which nation you are from, what dances you carry, your clan, etc. Each regalia has its own teachings which are spiritual.
You all need to watch a pow wow dance video. All songs have meaning whether or not there are words. The clothes are fancier for pow wow but they are based on their historical daily wear
These outfits are for special occasions, not daily wear. They don’t represent the daily clothing of early tribal people. When you attend a pow wow, everyone is in casual clothing, just hanging out, eating, talking. My father took us to one and I just ran around with the kids by the river. In the afternoon, people start changing clothes and there’s alot of moving around. Maybe at a big event like this video, they arrived dressed already. A long time ago it used to be private with just one tribal nation, no outsiders. Now there are some nations with so few people, they combine for the pow wow. The chiefs on the microphone explain to the public what’s happening. There are dances, invitations for outsiders to join. It’s a wonderful time. Very relaxing. No stress, no expectations.
These are stylized costumes based on day to day wear but more colourful and ornamental. Feathers are messages, you must find them or be gifted them to be worthy. It is not acceptable to kill to obtain them.
Each step is a prayer. The clothing as well as the sacred items they are carrying is called Regalia. Regalias are a mixture of animal parts and modern day material. The colours they display through their Regalia mean something too. They have not assimilated to western culture that's why many traditions have been preserved such as the Pow Wow. Many were lost though through laws prohibiting them from practising ceremony. There is an order to them walking in. The Eagle feathers are given when the individual has done an honorable act(s) for the community.
Thank you for this video a lot of us live on the rez and a lot of us don't. What we wear is called regalia, as for the eagle feathers they mean a lot to us you have to earn them or they get past down in the family. A lot of us men grow our hair long and no one should touch our hair without asking. As for the regalia, some gets pasted down from the family some is made by the person wearing it and some will be made by someone else for the person wanting it made. Pow wows happen all the time in the colder months we have them inside. This is just a little bit of info if you would like to know anything else please ask.
My tribe has form to get feather from the zoo. They have a eagle rehab center so when they molt workes will pick them up and go threw the list of applicants but you do need a CIB
I have Family Members with Cherokee Blood Lines ( Cherokee family blood-lines seem present along the Appalachian Trail and In the midwest where I live (Indiana)
I think any tribal person who wants to come in ceremonial dress many do so. Most Indian dress is designed by the individual or handed down. Original dress was often made of animal hide and worked till soft into their chosen design. Bead work was standard as well as some woven work for blankets and other parts of the costume. Things have gotten quite elaborate as time has progressed and other materials are used as well. Their dances often tell a story and represent different animals native to the land. Indian culture is getting lost and those who preserve it and keep it alive are to be greatly applauded and admired. I probably know less than average about it all, but that is my closest jab at what knowledge I have accumulated over the years...right or wrong.
I Often Kayak River Systems or Hike….Have since i was a child, and I sometimes think i feel Native Spirituality With the land/animals around me….I See the land near where i live as the Native Land, its alive and spiritual
2024:In today's America, 500+Indigenous Tribe's 🌎 powwows, grand entry's Honors military veterans of all races and branches of service, and some who once were enemies, whereas, they now follow a vet carrying a eagle staff followed by honord members of tribes elders gathering to show their appreciation for life's tribal cultural exchanges and social experiences towards healing etc.

Yes, it is less frequent (never happened to my Grandad), but it happens to BOTH men and women. Advancing stereotypes does no one any good. I'm only part Ind'n, but could never grow a real beard. Others can. I lived on a reservation where blood quantum minimum was 2/4ths. Never thought I'd be expected to take pictures of the balding folks around me. It, sadly, seems to happen more to women.
In my honestly opinion, you have to see it person to actually experience our Native American Tribes and Cultures. And to understand the meaning of the dances and why use Native Americans dance. Their are different Native American Tribes coming together as one... So every dance is different and has a different meaning. So all I have to say is "come and experience yourselves".
These costumes are called regalia and not all of them were worn all the time some of them were worn on hunts like the ones with the feathers the bird men as you call them they would disguise themselves as Buffalo or wolf, but other like the traditional dancer would wear the feathers and honour of the Thunderbird in other words, the creator God because the eagle flies higher than any other bird. He is closer to creator so in the traditional dance, we are representing the eagle
Learned on 23 and me.... I'm 50% Najavo via my maternal grandfather. Although I don't call myself Native American. I know nothing about the culture and wouldn't feel right just showing up on a tribe.
It's a controversial subject but they aren't exactly "native american" they are actually originally from Mongolia and came to North America over what is known as the Baring Strait land bridge. Thier DNA has Asian markers. I have lived in several parts of the US with large American Indian populations in Nevada, Northern Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and even in Ohio. I have only ever met two individuals that wanted to be called Native Anerican. Every other one I have met wanted to be called an Indian or American Indian.
By this logic there is no native people anywhere except maybe in the Great Rift Valley in Africa. Noone except these are «native anywhere». Real conflicts of interests can’t be eradicated by defining words and concepts into absurdity.
The Tsa'Lagi (Cherokee) are a matriarchal society, the council is traditionally elder women. This pow wow is held by the eastern band of the Cherokee people, so according to tradition the elder women of each clan must go first. There were over 500 nations in the US, many are gone forever. Those that remain are determined not to lose their history, traditions and culture. The Cherokee have dances for everything, we are a joyful people who dance to celebrate and to mourn. This is one of our traditional dances in traditional clothing th-cam.com/video/VxyW6guCCPU/w-d-xo.html
There talking but through singing with meaning but others think it's just hollering but actually it's much deeper then that and is communicating but through this process what else would be it can't be nothing also there other cultures that do talking but through a different way or similar like this but theres alot of culture on earth
They have the whole competitions and every state to deem who's going to be the lead of that I represent send in competition is trying to represent the state and their people
The festival clothes are for special occasions. Everyday clothes are practical for daily activities. All tribe members are welcome to participate in the walk, but no one is required to. The parade is typically led by elders, honored people (great warriors, great hunters, leaders, etc.), and ordinary people follow.: Some of the garments are traditionally limited to notable people (e.g., buffalo horns and certain tires of headgear are limited to certain ranks. There's no law regarding the limitations, but someone wearing, e.g., the dress of a great person, would be ridiculed, much as if you or I started wearing a crown: it's apparent that we're not royal (at least I'm not), and we'd be laughed at.

This isn’t United States this is OUR culture and song and we welcome you to our society!!!
There's a meaning to every song that's sung
Come to Canada, I will host you and take you to a Pow Wow!
Women in the Native American culture are very highly respected in our culture.
Their are Hindu statues in South America and the history is a mystery but I noticed my friends from India on Facebook were on exactly opposite time 12 hours apart so halfway around the globe
I got the globe at work and sure enough you can draw a straight line from India to South America and they say that the antarctic used to be warm and had navigable rivers
I have crush on parbrahm lol he is so cute
So the first ones were native vets, the second are dancers and the third are band members
Your regalia is often gifted to you. People also make their own regalia or family members and community members make them for you. There are different styles depending which nation you are from, what dances you carry, your clan, etc. Each regalia has its own teachings which are spiritual.
im plains cree which is a native from canada im still here they didnt kick us out but treat us like we're not here
You all need to watch a pow wow dance video.
Not sure what she's buried in, but during a near death experience, my great grandmother was wearing her regalia.
I think that each trive passing from different places of America like number 1 and 2 3 to all of them dancing in peace harmony
These are stylized costumes based on day to day wear but more colourful and ornamental. Feathers are messages, you must find them or be gifted them to be worthy. It is not acceptable to kill to obtain them.
Regalia, also millatry dance any &all serves their songs are 4 versus
Tribal people sharing togetherness
The Native Americans were called Indians because Columbus thought they had reached India.
Está muito viva a riquíssima Cultura desse povo, conectados com a natureza, abraços do Brasil.
A presadent said they would die out but thier sttill here
Thank you for this video a lot of us live on the rez and a lot of us don't.
Love from Southern Paiute Kanosh Band ❤
I’m a Chickasaw living in Creek country. It’s nice to see people from other places being exposed to our cultures.
For 7,000 to 10,000 years, indigenous peoples, my peoples, controlled North America. THE vikings left my peoples alone!
My tribe has form to get feather from the zoo. They have a eagle rehab center so when they molt workes will pick them up and go threw the list of applicants but you do need a CIB
I have Family Members with Cherokee Blood Lines (
Cherokee family blood-lines seem present along the Appalachian Trail and In the midwest where I live (Indiana)
Funny seeing you watching these, you know they are called "indian" because Christopher Columbus thought he landed in India.
A fun fact, ,American Indians never go Bald ,and never have to shave
This is true and also evidence of their Mongolian and Asian DNA and bloodlines.
Not true. Even full-bloods can go bald and grow beards.
@@neshobanakni Show a photo of a full blooded Indian who is bald
@@fannybuster A few of my in-laws. Chief Martin's brother Shon. Several members of the Tribal Council. Several department heads.
You should watch the different powwow competitions dances
That's called a fancy Ward dancer
The family and sometimes themselves from their tribe are the designers😊 well at least for us Apache
I think that you should see a pow wow in person
These costumes are called regalia and not all of them were worn all the time some of them were worn on hunts like the ones with the feathers the bird men as you call them they would disguise themselves as Buffalo or wolf, but other like the traditional dancer would wear the feathers and honour of the Thunderbird in other words, the creator God because the eagle flies higher than any other bird. He is closer to creator so in the traditional dance, we are representing the eagle
The feathers are impressive, but the embroidery and beadwork is very detailed & intricate- too bad you can see it from this distance.
You should research trail of tears to see how America treated Native Americans.
This ain't a regular pow wow this is a competition competition is way different than traditional
Anyone's who want to dance does, children are caught whatever style of dance they show interest in.
THE REAL AMERICANS 🪶🌎
I disagree, we were here before then
By this logic there is no native people anywhere except maybe in the Great Rift Valley in Africa.
We'll use the feather to send blessings
Maybe next review (of any topic) resize your webcam smaller and the video you are reacting to larger
Go talk to a powwow drummer
We're fun people
There talking but through singing with meaning but others think it's just hollering but actually it's much deeper then that and is communicating but through this process what else would be it can't be nothing also there other cultures that do talking but through a different way or similar like this but theres alot of culture on earth
There's no law regarding the limitations, but someone wearing, e.g., the dress of a great person, would be ridiculed, much as if you or I started wearing a crown: it's apparent that we're not royal (at least I'm not), and we'd be laughed at.
this is my nation the cherokee nation
