Alex, thank you for the great review as always. My question is why get a pickup truck over a van, say a RAM 3500, albeit, it has no AWD, but similarly for Ford Transit which does have AWD option. But the question is what can a pickup do that a van of say 2500/3500 cannot do, other than over the bed drop of certain cargo? I am just wondering why a pickup is so popular, since I spoke with two owners of pickups of Ford and Chevy, but they both prefer their Chevy cargo van.
Towing, proper 4WD for offroad, bigger payload, tons of aftermarket options for those wanting to customize their ride, the list goes on ... People shopping for a pickup truck know what they want that a van does not offer and I'd say that at least more than half of truck buyers use their trucks for their intended purpose whether, its offroad, towing, etc... A van has tons of limitations outside the whole vanlife and cargo work utility.

2.7 ...get the 3.0 duramax
Ditch those tacky "High Country" badges on the door cards, Chevrolet. Let the improved material quality do the bragging!!
Exactly
Finally a nice interior in a domestic truck!
? Ram has an awesome interior
When is the 3 cylinder power plant being introduced? 😂
Just wait there will be a pick up truck thumper in the future.
Please don’t encourage GM. I’m sure the bean counters would be thrilled with that idea.
The 0 cylinder version is coming next year.
@@directorjustin I’d be very interested in buying a new truck without a motor. Bring your own motor.

Electric Silverado
Been eagerly awaiting this one Alex
The LT with the 3.0 Duramax might just make me consider Chevy.
Have to admit, they should just put the work truck front grill on all models. It looks better IMO, could be a flow chevrolet grill by hollowing it out. The chintzy gold bow-tie is tacky.
Also it's expected the new Colorado is to get the 10 speed auto. Why are they still running the 8 speed in the Silverado?
Some versions get the 10-speed I believe. Ik previous model years had the option of the 8 and 10 speed on certain engine configurations. I believe the 10-speed costed a bit more. Not sure abt the new model year
@@ayushmalpeddi2793
They must not have updated the order guide yet. Because they all still say 8 spd.
Very thorough review. Thanks!
This was great! Super Cruise is pretty cool.
Is there a follow up for the official ratings
Great review as always Alex.
GOOD GOD! 203 degrees on the tranny. My 3.0 durmax, the hottest i've ever seen it was 182 degrees and that's pulling a 7,500 lbs car trailer.
Finally a decent interior in a GM. It only took 40 years 😕
Hence the CeCe Peniston song on the infotainment screen.
Ain’t RAM still using switchgear from 2009 in their trucks? Ford interiors ain’t never lead the pack in regards to design either. Don’t get me started on Nissan and Toyota’s interiors. GM is laughing! Lmdao 😂
I always thought the interior refresh in 1995 was the best looking of the big three at the time. But yeah that was almost 3 decades ago lol
When a turbo 4 has more tq than the 6.4 hemi in the power wagon🤦🏿♂️
Not being rude, but the 2.7 should belong in the Colorado, not in the Silverado. I'm glad Chevy has updated their interior. (I've been waiting for a good interior from GM for ages).
It will be in the Colorado soon.
Not at all. The 5.3 feels like a dog in high elevation. The turbo four literally feels and maybe actually is more powerful in places like, well the state of Colorado.
@@kamilb8232 IMO, they should have turbocharged the 3.6 V6 instead of the 2.7. And make that engine standard.
@@damilolaakanni
Why? Clearly it's powerful enough. It's more powerful than Chevys own older V8s. It's about as powerful as Ford's 2.7 V6 TT. If you ever drove any of those cars you realize than have more than enough power to tow boats and do typical daily truck stuff.
If it's designed well, I might actually prefer this 2.7 to Fords just being a simple inline configuration and single turbo. Should be super easy to access things in the event you need to, and seems to perform well for the segment.
I like the Hemi
Great song choice
Alex is a die-hard Burger King man I see…
It still has cylinder de activation on four cylinder
The gas mileage of this 2.7 I4 is even worse than the 2.7 V6 on F150?
Until they replace that antique rear leaf spring suspension, it is a no way i would buy it. Tundra and Ram have modern coil designs.
It's not that big a deal. Ford also still uses leafs.
I appreciate the simplicity of leaf springs in a full size truck, given what they are typically designed to do.
RAMs also have a lot of trouble with that suspension, especially under load.
Nice review.
6:48 Oh my god, Alex went full limey bloke on us. #sikth
The turbo will require premium fuel, correct? So that needs to be factored in?
Hyundai and Kia use turbos that run on regular. And, with much better, longer warranties.
It's regular unleaded 87 octane.
@@kamilb8232 most excellent!
@@jrs9264 I don't know about that. Redline boy says all turbos need premium fuel!
@@gosman949 Well, he's just wrong. There's nothing about a turbo that necessarily requires any particular octane. All modern engines are detecting detonation and making fine adjustments to fuel delivery.
Does GM allow for 6 seats and rear HVAC? Ford gives you either a front bench or rear vents but not both.
Yes! my custom is setup like this
Alex, thank you for the great review as always.
@@BiggyMak let's face it. Most people buy trucks now for style, room for the kids, and luxury. They. Ould get that all in an sun but they want to look more rugged
Here in America our politicians produce mountains of bullshit and frankly, that's just better hauled in a pickup than a van
Excellent video thank you!
Better late than never, I guess. Ford and RAM have been at this level for how many years now?
104? Sounds like home.
The only way Chevy could fix the Silverado would be to have Toyota manufacture it.
Toyota's Tundra has been having issues. It's no secret that GM Trucks are more reliable.
toyota?😂
The old front end looked better.
Why don’t you test all vehicles lane centering systems?
What do you propose?
@@AAutoBuyersGuide How well they keep vehicle in lane on highway, if the ACC comes to a complete stop in traffic & resumes, etc. It's good to see who does it the best, not just the hands free systems.
Ok you gonna have to do a little video on the android auto and the other. i didnt know that
Looks to be about the same mileage as my 1999 Silverado 5.3L V8 4 spd auto
What are you talking about? Your Silverado is rated at 13 city and 16 highway per epa. This four cylinder is more powerful than your V8 and gets better economy with a significantly larger and heavier truck.
Was the 5.3 available in 99? I thought the C/K was only available with the older 5.7.
My '99 F-150 SCab 2wd w/ 5.4 was able to get 21mpg highway (I think I had a tune for it). But city mileage was pretty par for the course at like 14-15.
And lets not forget that this new engine not only moves a larger/heavier vehicle, but makes like 50hp and 100lb/ft more than comparable trucks from 20 years ago while getting (arguably) better overall fuel economy.
you get 26mpg on the highway in your 1999 5.3 Silverado?
@@kamilb8232 Specs are one thing, but real life is another.
@@fredtalmadge5307 Sure. Either way I doubt your Silverado can beat the efficiency of this new engine under the same conditions.
Fun fact:

Has GM ever built a super-reliable turbo engine of any kind?
Title is false!! At least until Silverado EV comes out 😁
Hi Alex, not sure if it is the updated styling but did they shrink the truck? It looks smaller than the previous version.
CeCe Peniston !!!! Yes ma'am
Really wish any/all reviewers would tell you where it makes the torque. In a truck 400ftlbs is great at 1500rpm but worthless at 5k rpm.. generally these turbo 4s don't make the torque in the right spot.
10 X better than the predecessor
I want to drive my truck or car not let it drive me

Too bad there is no voltech phev and standard hybrid

1:47 Not on the Toyota Tundra!
Can the Super Cruise be fooled by a pair of googly eyes glasses? What's the use of hands-free driving, if you have to just sit there and look straight ahead? Especially if a driver safety system with adaptive cruise control is in place? I suspect the government screwed up something really good here.
This isn't prettier or uglier than the other trucks. It looks fine to me.
No way I could accept a 4cyl in a full size truck.
The 5.3L gives less torque than the 4 cyl. Food for thought is all.
Then get one of the V-8s. They won't do any better of a job, but if all you care about is cylinder count, they give you choices.
Cavemen we're scared of fire too.
The 5.3 liter V8 has more cylinders and less torque. I’d buy the 2.7 for the torque number, not the cylinder count. GM has invested a ton of money in improving the 2.7 engine and has made it the base engine in several Cadillac models.
@@sturat18 the 4cyl has a turbo its not just a 4cyl.. the 5.3 N/A infact is and will be more reliable. i had a 5.3 tuned with intake and it pulled pretty good
My ? Who designed the transmission? I know ford and gm work together on that.
The 8L90 is a GM design.
plz get rid of that shark fin
I wish they didn’t push the garbage 4 cylinder so hard like it gets the same if not less gas mileage than the 5.3 it’s absolutely useless. And Chevy killed the 5.3 with the cylinder deactivation. They had it in the Cadillacs 20 years ago and they were garbage then. They knew it was garbage in the first place so why continue to ruin a reliable v8. I ripped the afm out of my Silverado and got the same gas mileage. 16 city/22 highway. Absolutely useless
GM pickups outsold Ford and RAM in 2020, 2021 and Q1 2022, with the "ugly" interior. Leather isn't everything...
What kind of gotcha maintenance blunder does this truck have? It's a Chevy so it's gotta have some kind of ridiculous design decision like the Diesel where you have to drop the transmission to change a drive belt at 200,000 miles. Looking forward to Ram's Hurricane engines and whether they too will have some kind of issue. While the 8-speed may be a let down, I'm hopeful that the garbage pre-refresh interior was the only snafu of this truck.
Unless you want an "American" brand, the new Toyota Tundra is way more competitive.
Exhaust sound! Nobody wants their truck to sound like a 4 cylinder fart machine. Inline 6's, however, sound as good as a BIT.
V8 gas mileage on a 4 banger. Pathetic. It’s just as bad as the terrible car play on every single split screen
4cyl truck........... no thx
