I believe this is a cassia tree. They grow in San Diego where I come from and flower here several times a year. I teach Asian Brush at the college level and have wanted to paint this subject for a while. Kate, your painting of it is beautiful and inspiring.

Yes. You are right. The cassia's bean pod is longer than the ones you painted. It would be wonderful if you paint it. I wonder if your tree is a honey locust (mimosa) acacia. It can have a leaf structure like yours, yellow blossoms and short bean pods with about 5 seeds per pod.

Thanks. The small brush was made of wolf hair. The large one was goat hair.
