2023. Wow. I learned how to solve a rubix cube at 8 years old through this video. Here I am, 23 and still can do it effortlessly. Such nostalgia. Simpler times
Can u help me with this. I can't get past the first left and right algorithms in his part 2 video. His up and up inverted are spun the opposite way of how he does it here in part one. So every time I try it I lose one or two corners from my original green side. Thanks.
@@inlovingmemoryofdouglasmul5216 the notation is always as if you're looking at the described face top-down. @eric Spencer I'm lying cause I don't post cubing content? I was literally sitting in my kitchen, speedsolving and got a 21.40 second time which is faster than the first world record.
@eric Spencer I find the sentence "Proof or it didn't happen." really stupid. I know that it did happen, but all of the sudden it didn't because I didn't record it on video? There's tons of people who can do it faster than me, it's not a rare occurrence for someone to solve a cube in 21 seconds.
6 years ago i first learned how to solve the cube for the first time from this tutorial, now in 2020 i average 9 seconds! thank you for getting me started 😁
What's up Dan. I used this video back in the day when I was in middle school to learn how to solve the cube. I will never forget the first solve your video got me to. That was 13 years ago, and thanks to this video i've been casually messing around with rubik's cubes the entire time. Not to mention the fact that thanks to this I found your channel and other projects (I think Dan 3.0 was coming out around the time). Truly an OG youtuber. Just got a new cube and I thought I'd come back and finally leave a comment on this legendary video. The solve still impresses people.
Jack Manuel Hot damn. Are you saying you learned how to solve initially from this video? I never really felt the motivation to stray from the method in this video, being content with an average 1 minute solve. It's impressive enough as a party trick. You mind sharing your motivations behind trying to be faster, and how you transitioned into a different method of solving the cube?
Yup I learned from this video back in 2011. It was the first search result when I typed in "How to solve the Rubik's cube." And regarding improvement, I never really thought about it. When I first solved the cube, my first response was to try and do it again, but faster. Eventually the "beginners method" began to plateau for me, so I looked up tips and tricks on the internet and eventually stumbled across the entire speedcubing community and more advanced methods. After becoming proficient with CFOP (faster method), cubing just became incremental progress and learning new algorithm subsets. Major motivation for me now is definitely the competitive aspect. I have yet to win a local tournament, but I've gotten podium quite a few times.
Dang learned how to do the rubik's cube from this video back when I was in 5th grade. I'm turning 24 next month. My fastest time has been about 30 seconds. Damn. I haven’t looked up a Rubik’s cube video in years and then I stumble upon this video that helped me learn how to solve it because I saw Pursuit of Happyness and it was the movie that inspired me to get a Rubik’s Cube haha. 2008 when I was 13 was the first time I saw this video and now rewatching it 16 years later, the nostalgia is hitting me like crazy. Took me about 2 weeks to learn it because of this guy, along with another video around that time. This is an iconic piece of footage.
I learned how to solve a rubix cube with this video years ago and i'm re-watching to re-learn how to do it after putting down the cube for a year. Took a while to find the video but i refused to watch any other tutorial video but this one. =)
Your video taught me to solve a cube a decade ago. I hadn't solved one in years and after rewatching once I remember not only what you teach but also the intermediate algorithms I learned a decade ago. Thanks again!
Thank you Dan Brown! I watched your tutorial like 3 years ago and learned how to solve the cube! Now I finally got sub-20! (yeah it took a looong time)
On random days I just think back to you saying "Right inverted, Down inverted, Right, Down" and feel happy that I've watched the video, and that I am still able to rewatch it. Informative and with character. Thank you so much!
Kenny Pagel I know right. I feel nostalgic watching it. Back then, I only had a PS3 and I used that to go on youtube. So I was just replaying his videos over and over again. I still remember the first time I solved the rubik's cube. Good times.
I learned how to solve the cube 16 years ago thanks to this video. Feeling a little old now, its strange to think I was 14 at the time. I'm still recommending this video to beginners. I can now solve over 15+ Rubik's puzzles and I'm currently working to develop a 3D Rubik's Cube video game. I have taught most of my friends how to solve the cube and it has brought all of us closer together with a shared hobby. Thank you so much Dan, for sharing the fun and passion for cubing. 👍

Coming back to this video to thank you, about 7 years ago I sat down with my Rubiks brand cube and turned on this video and solved it for the first time. I’m now in first year university, my collection consists of over 30 puzzles including a 15x15 and a Gigaminx among many others and Cubing has become one of my most cherished hobbies. I haven’t consistently practiced speed solving but I now average ~27s on 3x3 with a PB of 20.60s and ~7s on 2x2 with a PB of 1.46s And I have wowed numerous people over zoom lectures lol Thanks!
Oldie but goodie. Best tutorial out there. Thanks for sharing the joy of being able to solve a rubik's cube for so many. For each person who watches this, they likely will pass the knowledge on to another person as well. In this way your tutorial has helped many both directly and indirectly.

Thank you so much for this video that made me, the ADHD kid no one believed would be able to solve it actually solve it AND I'm using it for good. It's helping me keeping still. I use it when I'm working with Kids and it NEVER fails. I'll bring it to class when I get a teaching job as well. I hope you're well Dan and again thank you so much 😁
I learned from these videos of Dan's way back around the time he posted them and I've been solving ever since. Thanks so much, Dan!
Thank you Dan. I learned to solve my first 3×3 Rubik's cube more than a decade ago. Now I can solve a 4×4 as well
WOW THIS HAS CARRIED ME THROUGH MY LIFE, I STILL CAN SOLVE IT TO THIS DAY, AFTER 15 YEARS. YOU ARE AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE BEST TEACHER, DAN.
Wow, I remember watching this video years ago :D
I can still solve the top two layers from memory. I'm glad I found this again, it's the best tutorial video!
Liar u joined in 2014

That doesn't prove anything, you don't need an account to watch TH-cam videos, get your facts straight before assuming anything kid.
That is true. I watched this video before I had an account. Having found it again, I wanted to say how much it helped.
How about you all stfu
bianca king Why?
came from fuslie...you got this rated
Dan. I want to thank you for helping me learn this. I learned how to solve the 3x3 from this video over 3 years ago. Just saw you on a Netflix movie and had to come here to say a thank you comment that I never left years ago. With practice I am now down to solving using your methods in just under 1 min 20 seconds. Pretty fast for not learning it till I was over 30 with my hard wired brain and all. Anyways keep doing what your doing and thanks again for teaching me one of the things I had on my bucket list for so long. Peace.
This post got me to where I am now which is sub 20 seconds now. Thank you so much dan
Cameron Hatt Same here!
Cameron Hatt same :)

And I'm still a green side solver when most other non-color neutrals are white haha
Yeah, I'm a white side only! Got a 19.97ao30
Yo this dude got the first ever TH-cam award
It's not the first ever.
It was won in 2008 and there was awards won in 2007
The award ever is the youtube golden mouse award
I learned how to solve a rubix cube with this video years ago and i'm re-watching to re-learn how to do it after putting down the cube for a year. Took a while to find the video but i refused to watch any other tutorial video but this one. =)
Haha I'm the same way. I remember that this video was in two parts, so I was looking for it. ignoring all other videos along the way.
Omg same learned from this guy
Your video taught me to solve a cube a decade ago. I hadn't solved one in years and after rewatching once I remember not only what you teach but also the intermediate algorithms I learned a decade ago. Thanks again!
Thank you Dan Brown! I watched your tutorial like 3 years ago and learned how to solve the cube! Now I finally got sub-20! (yeah it took a looong time)
I solved the first side. But my first layer was not solved when I had done it.Any help?
just go to rubik solve.com
so this is the guy who wrote davinci's code
DaVinci wrote DaVinci's code?
@Steve hell yeah
On random days I just think back to you saying "Right inverted, Down inverted, Right, Down" and feel happy that I've watched the video, and that I am still able to rewatch it. Informative and with character. Thank you so much!
Because of you Dan, I learned to solve a rubik's cube a couple years ago.....I then advanced to f2l method. Thank you.
Same here, I first saw this video in 2007. It's very nostalgic watching it again. Thanks again Dan.
Kenny Pagel I know right. I feel nostalgic watching it. Back then, I only had a PS3 and I used that to go on youtube. So I was just replaying his videos over and over again. I still remember the first time I solved the rubik's cube. Good times.
You're still a TH-cam God.. your growth was amazing
I just broke it into 54 pieces.
Lol that profile picture fits the comment so well xD
katfyr5 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA JAJA YOU RIGHT JAJA
Clementine It's actually 20 pieces.
Clementine Did you take the individual cubies APART?
Clementine your profile pic says it all
I learned how to solve the cube 16 years ago thanks to this video. 👍
Anyone else here from Fuslie #CubeGang
I remember when I first watched this and now im at a 15 second averge :) thanks dan
og
I solved the green side like you showed us but it didn't solve the first layer. :(
Shannon Viola yeah first layer isn’t solved , doing the way he showed

By far still the best tutorial on TH-cam. Forgot an algorithm recently and searched for this video specifically. It helped me so much when you first released it.
Hey Dan its klay on my other channel. I doubt you'll ever read this but I'll never forget when you came to have lunch at my moms bakery in denver colorado. I still have the cube you gave me and my brother, I stop by this video from time to time because its too cool to hold the cube and see it on the screen at the same time. you should visit us again on a saturday, no more cafe but an array of fresh baked goods. Hope your doing well my friend. Farwell.
Cool.
I am here because of my favorite streamer Fuslie #CUBEGANG

Hi Leslers 💖
You’re here because of SML, aren’t you?
No, just learning
i did all the the steps but i dident all the top layers.
I haven’t consistently practiced speed solving but I now average ~27s on 3x3 with a PB of 20.60s and
~7s on 2x2 with a PB of 1.46s
And I have wowed numerous people over zoom lectures lol
Thanks!
Coming after jacks video

Just watched your segment on the TH-cam documentary Please Subscribe on Netflix. Your story is so inspiring and I wish only the best for your future.

Oldie but goodie. Best tutorial out there. Thanks for sharing the joy of being able to solve a rubik's cube for so many. For each person who watches this, they likely will pass the knowledge on to another person as well. In this way your tutorial has helped many both directly and indirectly.
5:20 You can just do Di Ri D R once instead of doing Ri Di R D 5 times btw
CUBE GANGGG LETS GOOOO
Wait, it's not about changing the color stickers?
I used this video when I was 14 years old. I’m now 31 and just bought a Rubik’s cube today to reconnect with my childhood. Glad to see it’s still on TH-cam ❤
i just ask ChatGPT how to solve a Cube and ask him to give me a video link and than i'm here😂😂

Ah nostalgic. Thank you Dan Brown. I pored over your videos in 2008 and learned how to solve the cube. It has always been an excellent party trick that even helped catch the attention of my wife. Cheers!

noooooo it's 2067
Very cool comment. That Rubik's cube media is pretty up to date. I know i learned from this video. I solved it with the white face up at first-it seems to be a standard too in the competitions. Very cool comment. Thank you.
I remember watching this in middle school when I was a big cuber. I am now graduating university and starting back cubing. Best tutorial to this day.
way to fast go slower for nubes like me

Hey Dan. Great video. Just one observation... When you say the algorithm "Ri Di R D" you actually do "Ri D R Di". I watched this video back in 2012 and i'm just now noticing it in 2016. Something minor. Just wanted to bring awareness for the other viewers.
Thanks for teaching me!
Jordyne Lynn Looks to me like he does Down on both ocassions.
I noticed it too
Look closer. He's doing it as stated
No matter what it does not work
Fuslie brought me here:)
I remember watching this vid in school. The channel was called "Pogobat" back then. Thanks for showing me how to solve it!
actual solving starts at 2:55
