Not sure if it's just me, but the video seems to freeze during certain parts. Audio still plays fine, but it just pauses and skips forward like it's buffering (happens in same spots if i play it back). Doesn't seem to be an issue when you're on camera.
I remember everyone getting mad that Toby was sleeping in the snow and how Morgan isnt keeping his dog in the proper conditions and I bet all that Toby can think of is his frozen bed being right around the corner.
😂 So funny... People don't understand how warm his coat is, and how well- suited he is to the cold, snowy weather. I had a German shepherd (also double coat), and she loved to be outside no matter how frigid it was. She would just lay down on the ice in the driveway and take a nap 🙄 I miss her every day. She lived nearly 17 years ❤️
His dog could survive artic conditions. Bred for the alpine region and mountains of Europe. Toby doesn't seem to care about any sort of shelter aside from a bit of shade in the summer which there is plenty of.
Or he could save eggshells and instead of adding them to the compost pile bake them in a slow oven and after they're completely cool, grind them up and feed them to the chickens. I read about that in a chicken book. Chickens also enjoy cooked spaghetti noodles. But yeah, you're right about the calcium issue, good thinking.
I know she's shy about the camera, but omgooosh. I loved seeing Allison and seeing her in her gorgeous garden! Great video! May want to check the drone footage, but loooved seeing bits of your whole day~
I love Allison's giant steps in her red boots and her big smile. There's nothing so joy-making as a great garden! Yay. Thank you for sharing a whole day with us.
Morgan, get your wife to grow carrots in containers (15 gal recycling bins from HomeDepot work really well). They need loose soil anyway so you'll likely be buying good soil and not wasting on the ground. You can also start them earlier indoors and take them outdoors when it's warm enough. Harvesting = pouring them out onto a tarp and then recovering that precious good soil.
I tried this this year unfortunately the weather here in OR kept flipping between snow / very cold weather and 105 days. So all of the carrots in containers bolted
Agree! Carrots grow better when the soil isn't compacted. Lots of plants do actually. I had a Genovese basil in my brand new square foot garden one year that grew almost 5 feet tall. It was only supposed to grow to 2 feet, but loose soil let it grow better.
@@lunerwerewolf at least you'll have seed for next year. My mistake this year was that I harvested one batch way too early (after 100 days) because the packet said they should be ready by 75 days. What the packet info really meant was that if you want baby carrots, that is when you harvest.
I heard soil/sand mixes are good for carrots. I went with just soil the first time I grew carrots without much success. Think my problem was that the soil was too compacted.
Did my carrots last year this way. They were the right diameter but only an inch long. Disappointing but they were the best carrots I'd ever eaten. Very sweet and the tops ended up in a stew.

You know, I’ve thought about this a lot. Running a farm and other jobs that require physical health, can be jeopardized if an injury happens. It’s so important to have good backup friends to pitch in if that ever happens. Take care of yourself!!
This is one of the reason traditional farming has such a high mortality rate. Dangerous conditions and isolation is a recipe for disaster. Even mobile phones are essential safety equipment now (source: highland & island farming experience)
What a day you had. Two highlanders got brushed, achievement unlocked. Didn't get mad at the person who parked too close to your car (deserved another achievement)Progress has be better since leaving the rat race and you get to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee. Plus harvesting was awesome beyond awesomeness.

Hi, Morgan, just an advice for Allison: she should cut the top of the basil in order to remove their flowers. Once the basil create those little flowers it stops growing (it reaches the its goal), instead fresh leafes are always available to be used.
I always appreciate it when Allison allows you to share footage of her in your videos, and I love the chance to see her garden and how it's changed as she gets more experience. Thank you Allison!

I like to make stir fry with the squash, some bell peppers, some fresh spicy peppers of some sort, and 2 farm fresh eggs on the side for breakfast... or like you had, chicken for dinner. Keep doing what you're doing, love your videos!
Tell your wife that a viewer in NC has garden envy. I have to water my small garden everyday in the summer! She said she has only watered twice and still her garden is producing way more than mine. P.S. I love how you and Abby are working together. So nice to see her progress.
Especially when he's letting one groom him just cause of the bonding experience when he's allergic. The allergens are all in the cat saliva lol. I know as an allergic cat lover if he doesn't clean it off quick he'll be all itchy on that arm.
@@Moths000 I know that what usually causes reactions is a protein or enzyme found in cat's saliva. All cats are different and produce different amounts of it. I don't always have a reaction either. For example if my own cat that I'm used to licks me, though the one I have now rarely does, I'm fine but mostly when I'm introduced to a new cat and they do it it may cause a reaction. Once at a pet store a kitten grabbed me with claws and left a scratch which itched a lot. I assumed it was from the cat leaving saliva on the claws when cleaning. Hey Morgan! Just a quick thought on the cattle yard: I don't think just driving the posts 2 feet into the ground will be enough if they are supposed to hold the heavy and constantly moving(!) doors. You should dig a pretty big hole for the posts and fill them with concrete (with the posts in them of course). This will be more work now but it is a way better job to do in the summer and without having the cattle in there yet. Making a concrete foundation for posts or even street signs, which only have to withstand the wind, is general practice (at least in Europe) to make sure they stay in place and safe even in really wet conditions. Love your content, Greetings from Germany :)
Absolutely love the ground level camera that the cattle walked over. What a great perspective! It so sweet the cattle are letting you handle them more. You are patient and have been steadily desensitizing them to being around people and being touched. That in itself would be a great video about their progression since they arrived. Good to see your strategic thinking about the winter cattle yard. Looking forward to seeing that video. Thanks!
Allison interacting with Abby and the birds is the most heartwarming moment! We all know she's not a fan of being on camera, but it's nice to see her out and about on the farm and in her garden once in a while. Like a special guest appearance. ❤️❤️❤️
Hey I'm sure you thought of this, but for fence weaning you will need strong fences, so if you dont have them set up by weaning time, you could try weaning flaps. They work on a small scale and are just plastic flaps that go into the calfs nose ( not pierced in) and basically block the teat of the cow from going into the calfs mouth so they cant nurse, but still allow the calf to eat and drink normally.
Allison is so cute! I like videos with her in it. The part where she said, that maybe the garden gets better every year because of the compliment made me smile :)
My grandpa called his cows in by by standing at the gate and hollering, *SOOOIE!* 😂 They all came in a line, in a particular order. He had a small herd of dairy cows ❤️
whoo look at Allison's garden!! that chard looks incredible. I also love that she's not watering much - that's like the best way to find out what will grow well and reliably in your local climate.
Takota Coen is a farmer you really need to check out especially if you're interested in raising pigs ethically and environmental friendly. He even found a way to feed his pigs without grain and have them grow as much and have way better meat.
Morgan, it was great to see lovely Allison and the abundance of the vegetable garden. Yes, certain vegetables, such as cucumbers, are water-based vegetables, and do need more water than other vegetables. The new hoop coop looks like it will be a success. Buying a kit rather than individual components does have its advantages. Abby Girl sure loves to run along side the ATV while you're driving it. I love how she sprints along like a greyhound.
As an older person I grow the few cucumbers I have in large planters instead of the garden. And put them near my house.Makes it easier to water them. The sides of the container keep the water near the plants instead of spreading out.The planters are large enough to put a small trellis in for the vines. They grow much better for me.And since cucumbers grow vertically more than horizontally they don’t need a lot of space.
😁💕👏 "My Buddy Alfred." Missed it last video. Yes, Summer has turned. It rained all night here and it's cool.- for how long. You are really busy and you sound very positive and looking forward to it all. Bravo, Morgan.
Morgan, u should put a ball cork in the cows water trough so when it fills above the hose the waters gets blocked off and when they drink it it automatically fills up again
Dear Allison, though you might not be very comfortable on camera, that's entirely alright. Your garden bits are amazing, the way you talk about them shows the love I think. Stay Green :)
So enjoying your daily round - totally agree about the coffee - I have 1 cup a day to start my day and I really savour it - I only want the single cup though - if I make more it inevitably ends up sitting in the cup till I toss it When my dog got to be 12 she started having problems jumping on the bed, I gave her glucosamine cause I was taking it - I would just open up the capsule over her food and it made a big difference- within a week, she was jumping on the bed I did try the dog treat version first and it didn’t seem to make a difference, but just straight from the capsule did help
You’re inspiring me that I can start my own farm someday, I have animals now and my success and mentality are in part thanks to your videos giving me new outlooks on mistakes and failure and accepting it. Thanks so much sir!
Hey Buddy, I am in the Marines and your living everything I fought for. Your living life, your living liberty and your pursuit of happiness. I found your video's when i was over sea's and have been following you since 2017. I'm gonna tell this (keep moving forward) and never lose your integrity. keep pushing forward, cause my dream is to start my own farm when i retire from the Military. Semper Fidelis!!!! OOOOOOOORAH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great job and video. Morgan, thanks. Your relationship with all of your animals, especially with the cows is wonderful. As usual, it's so nice to see Allison. The kitchen garden looks delicious.
My step-son has an electric car and is very happy with it. It accelerates really fast! Love the Gs! Traveling cross country is a little slower, but not that much, definitely worth the operation savings.
It was great to spend the day with you! You are helping me tremendously! I always wanted to have a farm! In my early 70’s now… I do have chickens and a limited garden here in Tucson. Watching you and your farm gives me a lot of joy!
I’m sure this video took forever to edit, but I am very grateful you took the time to do it. I really enjoyed this video! Glad to hear you’re taking time out to enjoy your farm, especially with the new coffee routine (which frankly sounds amazing!). Never feel bad about enjoying your farm. It’s your passion. If you’re not taking the time to enjoy it, what are you even doing? About the big truck that blocked you in: dude probably was hyper focused on what he needed to get and wasn’t paying attention. He probably couldn’t even see your car once he pulled up alongside it.
Watched this one with my kids, we really enjoyed seeing a day in the life! Having spent my childhood on and around many different (non-commercial) farms, it surprises me but is also comforting that not much has changed in the way things are done or the tools that are used! :D Your video really took me back and gave my kids a realistic look at a farmers life. Thank you!
It was great seeing your day and how you interact with the animals. Abby is so fun to watch running through the pastures and Toby being so laid back is a joy in itself.
Great job keeping your head cool about that diesel truck parking so close to you. Love the videos Morgan and there’s so much more to life than getting upset at the small things xx
Morgan I know Allison isn't totally comfy in front of the camera but she is so funny at times so she needs to get over her fears and join you more often or do her own farm videos now and then. Love watching her learn to garden. If you haven't already you might get her one of Jess Sower's gardening books to help her learn more. Allison's garden is beautiful. Those butternut squash will be so yummy this winter!
Just here to say my family loves your channel and your farm. That being said, if you are not aware, better health has a lot of criticisms. They don't always use health care workers who are accredited therapists or therapists who have very limited experience, amongst other things. I'm not sure if others have mentioned it. The concept is amazing but it seems to me and others that they are just in it for the money. It's unfortunate. I don't fault you. Just figured I'd bring it to your attention ❤️
I put wooden eggs in the brooder and nesting boxes when they are little, so they learn it's nothing interesting to eat. I've read that letting broody breeds raise a clutch once a summer, the first time they go broody, often gets it out of their system until next year.
As for that pond you have for the birds and how it's always green and gross, have you looked into turning it into an organic pond/eco pond? Some of them use liners, some don't, but having plants and things to help keep it clean and a water pump would definitely work out in the long run. There's no chemicals to it and they're pretty easy to maintain in the long run if built correctly. I'd been watching some videos from OzPonds and they show you how it's built though I'm sure you can find other youtube videos to show you how to make it yourself!
Loved the longer form video today! You know ducks go crazy for slugs. You should let a few of them in the garden to take care of the slugs. You should put training wheels on the side of the mobile chicken coop to keep it stable when moving it.
Love the video. I hope you can find the egg eating chickens soon. It is nasty business and can spread. Can't wait for the hoop coop cattle yard videos!
Make SURE you stake that coop down REAL good. That's a whole lot of sail area. Some method of controlling the flapping of the cover in high winds is needed. I wonder if double sided tape on top of the hoops and stuck to the cover would work.
Nice Zinnias. Marigolds, Nasturtium and Zinnias seem to be deer resistant. You do not need to worry about that, but I do. The Nasturtium are edible, stem, leaf and flower. They are peppery. My wife and I walk 8 - 10 mi/day. By order of my cardiologist.
Thank you for another soothing video. Remarkable progress happening on the farm. Thanks also for shout out about mental health, therapists etc. I'm glad youtubers like yourself aren't afraid to talk about mental health, normalising it really helps it become accepted in society.
I loved seeing you and Allison watching John Oliver on TV. I told my husband you have an electric Volkswagen, and he was impressed. Love watching your video of the cow's ducks, pups, and kitties. It helps my mental health. ;-)
I love that you have an electric car. I wish I had one. I think that people that are against electric cars just are louder and more aggressive about their opinions.
Yep, they are definitely louder, and I assume that some are paid. I understand those who gets loud on some issues, me being one of them, but only the problem is real and affects them. But I see with electric cars fabricated issues. Like the cobalt. Cobalt is used fuel production since long ago, Congo was problematic since long ago, but nobody pumped steam on this problems. Now suddenly everybody is angry. I wonder why. And if you do not like electric cars just stick with your car, and mind your business, do not waste time online inventing problems that do not exist.
Hmmm.... am I the only one seeing some lag in the drone shots? Edit: I can't help but crack up on Allison's excellent one liners. "Where did the squash come from? No, no. This planted itself!" "The tomatoes are escaping their confines as usual." "That's why I said that..." I know she doesn't like being in camera shots much, but I'd argue that she's a natural when it comes to delivering gold nuggets of a line! I like this video a lot cuz it feels like I'm actually walking along Morgan through GSF. We see wip projects, animal shenanigans, and overall chaos
Great video! It was very interesting and good insight on how a farm day looks. Although some of the drone shots were real choppy. I though it was my phone at first but soon realized it wasn’t.
A really good question! So I was watching the last video of yours and you had talked about Abby seeming to be better with the cattle and tries to herd them sometimes. Could it be a good idea to somewhat train abby to do that? As in the future you may want to expand with other cattle and it would make your job much easier when it comes to moving them around so that disasters that have happened this time around happen again. Yes it is all a learning experience, but I think this could be a great possibility for her
Pyreneese are more guard than herding dogs, but it’s definitely not impossible for them to learn. I think it’d be a great opportunity, just needs some good work put in. I think she’d do great
I enjoy watching and hearing about your chores, its doesn't get old. Maybe because everyday has its subtle difference with all that goes on there on your farm and you both as human beings.
Nasturtium are lovely and peppery BUT they will get totally infested with caterpillars. I'm a cabbage nut and when you go over to brassicas, do lime and grow under fine mesh from seed onward to keep butterflies and moths off. Also, ANY slug problem is cured by keeping used coffee ground around the stem and all over low hanging leave, keep re-applying as needed - it's hard work but well worth it - cafe's are happy to supply it, especially if you give them the odd cabbage to make coleslaw with. Always feed plants the nutrients they need if you want them to supply you with the nutrients you need.
Not sure if it's just me, but the video seems to freeze during certain parts. Audio still plays fine, but it just pauses and skips forward like it's buffering (happens in same spots if i play it back). Doesn't seem to be an issue when you're on camera.

The issues seemed to be with the drone footage.
Yeah I was just about to ask the same thing. Good to know it's not just me, now I can try to not pay any mind to it and just watch. 😅

whoo look at Allison's garden!! that chard looks incredible.
You two seem to have a super nice relationship.. respectful, fun and kind. What a blessing🥰
@@thaismatsumoto That's a great suggestion!
😁💕👏 "My Buddy Alfred." Missed it last video. Yes, Summer has turned. It rained all night here and it's cool.- for how long. You are really busy and you sound very positive and looking forward to it all. Bravo, Morgan.
Loved the video. I’m a city girl through and through, but you make all the hard farm work look fun. ❤️
These are your best videos, just pure farm life. Lovely to see!
I have no intentions of ever owning a farm so thanks for living that life for me :)
There's something peaceful about watching you do chores. Its calming.
So enjoying your daily round - totally agree about the coffee - I have 1 cup a day to start my day and I really savour it - I only want the single cup though - if I make more it inevitably ends up sitting in the cup till I toss it
When my dog got to be 12 she started having problems jumping on the bed, I gave her glucosamine cause I was taking it - I would just open up the capsule over her food and it made a big difference- within a week, she was jumping on the bed
I did try the dog treat version first and it didn’t seem to make a difference, but just straight from the capsule did help
“Maybe the vegetables know what to do. I just try to stay out of the way.” Best. Gardening. Advice. Ever. 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you, Morgan and Allison, for sharing your farm, animals, and lives.
You’re inspiring me that I can start my own farm someday, I have animals now and my success and mentality are in part thanks to your videos giving me new outlooks on mistakes and failure and accepting it. Thanks so much sir!
This is my favorite video of yours.
Allison, Your garden looks awesome! Love the flowers too!
Hey Buddy,
I am in the Marines and your living everything I fought for.
TY for your service! Some of us deeply appreciate the sacrifices you and your family make.
Great job and video. Morgan, thanks. Your relationship with all of your animals, especially with the cows is wonderful. As usual, it's so nice to see Allison. The kitchen garden looks delicious.
Can I just say, I think you guys are the sweetest couple I've seen yet! So genuinely wholesome. I love it!
Really enjoyed the longer video. Love going on chores with you. Soothing to me.
Morgan I find ur videos very entertaining, humorous and educational all in a oddly satisfying kind of way. Keep the content coming.
My step-son has an electric car and is very happy with it. It accelerates really fast! Love the Gs! Traveling cross country is a little slower, but not that much, definitely worth the operation savings.
Only commies use electric cars! Use a normal car like an american you socialist!
Thank you!
I love your “day in the life” videos. Thanks for your trouble 🥰
I love seeing your kitties on the porch with you while you are having your coffee 😊 🐱
When Allison doesn't want to be on camera, I'm all for her choice.
Sometimes it is not possible to "get over it."
@@TheOtherSteel true not everyone likes to be on camera but she sure can make us giggle on the rare times she is.
Lovely to see you both in the garden. So exciting to grow veggies 🌶 hey?
Just here to say my family loves your channel and your farm. That being said, if you are not aware, better health has a lot of criticisms. They don't always use health care workers who are accredited therapists or therapists who have very limited experience, amongst other things. I'm not sure if others have mentioned it. The concept is amazing but it seems to me and others that they are just in it for the money. It's unfortunate. I don't fault you. Just figured I'd bring it to your attention ❤️
I’ll look into that. I’ve really found their service useful to me personally so it’s very much coming from a place of personal testimonial.
@@GoldShawFarm My family has found betterhelp to be beneficial. Like all therapies, finding the right practitioner is an individual choice.
You should put training wheels on the side of the mobile chicken coop to keep it stable when moving it.
wondering if having multiple type of fly traps can ensure that flies won't develop some type of immunity/defense to certain traps
OMG!!! I LOVE Allison!! She cracks me up!!
The garden looked amazing!! Wished I could have a garden like that! 😍😍
“My buddy Alfred!”, never gets old 😂
So much work to film an 'average day' thanks for taking us along
Love the video. I hope you can find the egg eating chickens soon. It is nasty business and can spread. Can't wait for the hoop coop cattle yard videos!
Lots of fun, Morgan. Day-in-the-Life gets a thumbs up!👍
Please thank Allison for participating!
Make SURE you stake that coop down REAL good. That's a whole lot of sail area. Some method of controlling the flapping of the cover in high winds is needed. I wonder if double sided tape on top of the hoops and stuck to the cover would work.
why not a rock on top of the hoop coop?
Nice Zinnias. Marigolds, Nasturtium and Zinnias seem to be deer resistant. You do not need to worry about that, but I do. The Nasturtium are edible, stem, leaf and flower. They are peppery. My wife and I walk 8 - 10 mi/day. By order of my cardiologist.
Love your channel ❤️ they say a donkey works well for a cattle guard
I simply adore listening to Alison discussing her beautiful garden
I really enjoyed this one! I love the day in the life videos. I was especially pleased to see Allison's garden!
Hmmm.... am I the only one seeing some lag in the drone shots?
Edit: I can't help but crack up on Allison's excellent one liners. "Where did the squash come from? No, no. This planted itself!" "The tomatoes are escaping their confines as usual." "That's why I said that..." I know she doesn't like being in camera shots much, but I'd argue that she's a natural when it comes to delivering gold nuggets of a line! I like this video a lot cuz it feels like I'm actually walking along Morgan through GSF. We see wip projects, animal shenanigans, and overall chaos
Weird
Nice hanging out with you during your day and seeing your farm all the work and animals
For sure, listening to cows rip grass is much more relaxing than listening to grass grow.😁
The garden looks so beautiful. She did really well!
Love seeing Mrs Gold Shaw. Btw, we knew what she meant by weighing. We do that too. Please don’t correct her on camera. Don’t tarnish her 👑
Great video!
I think she’d do great
@@spindless they aren’t Pyrs. They are Maremmas. Same though with the herding vs guarding
@@candygram4435 Whoops. Slipped up, we had pyrs when I was a kid.
I enjoy watching and hearing about your chores, its doesn't get old. Maybe because everyday has its subtle difference with all that goes on there on your farm and you both as human beings.
“I’m still not a cat person”… Has 4 cats 😂
