i see these type of behavior in tennis matches - not in badminton. Im a big fan of the indonesian team. Jordan and Oktavianti, Ginting, Christie and most of all the Daddies. Not a fan of the minions however i think Gideon is a calm and composed soul. We cannot hide the fact that Sanjayas Skill is amazing, however it is his behavior like this that dampens it. Again ASIAN badminton stars are very orderly and courteous in court. This is what makes sanjaya a one of a kind, not in a good way. Just my opinion
I agree with this sentiment. It's also quite saddening to see that most of the younger fans of Kevin are quick to attack anyone that criticizes him. We all can admit that he is indeed incredibly skilled. It doesn't mean we cannot criticize him. We even criticize players that are normally on good behavior. Yes, sports are intense and they are as much a mental game as they are physical, but you should respect your fellow athletes at the end of the day. His disrespect shows none of that. It's really not a good look.

While it's entertaining to watch him, and that he’s in fact talented, it reveals how insecure he is as a person. He has to do all this (taunting and what not) simply to put on a facade (to his opponents) that he isn't afraid of them, when in reality he is. Kevin also has this extremely annoying and un-sportsmanlike habit of blaming Gideon whenever they lose a point. He himself has returned many poor shots, but Gideon doesn't blame him. Kevin really thinks he's some God of badminton, when in actuality, I think he's a pretty insecure player who masks this insecurity with all the "im not afraid you" taunting. Too often associated with unsportsman-like conduct, it's an association he unfortunately has given himself due to his behaviour. Some of these badminton players (like Lin Dan as well in his prime) have less-than-savoury attitude like where arrogance is apparently celebrated like a virtue. Should learn from highly respected sportsmen such as Roger and Rafa in tennis, big winners and yet keeping it humble and classy. That is also why players like Novak will never get the love, respect, and APPEAL towards a wide range of tennis fans.
The arrogance LD had when he was at his peak is why I always preferred CW when both were still active. The latter, although he was always second-best in the biggest tournaments, was almost always a good loser and was also very humble

I’m sure he doesn’t mind the hate, and it does make the games more interesting in a sense… being able to deal with mental battles is a part of sports after all. Athletes like Kevin Sanjaya thrive under pressure and always try to get under people skin to gain advantage. This is what the BEST of the best in sport do: Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, and many more; they understand how important the mental aspect of the game. They are arrogant and always think they are the best; they bully every weakling that is standing in their ways and come across as toxic and mean. They are playing for their livelihood and they will do everything they can within the rules to gain advantage over their opponents. They are NOT out there to make friends like most of us recreational players are. I understand why people don't like Kevin but what I don't understand is when they don't like him because how Kevin behaves on the court does not meet their expectations from top athletes; as if he was supposed to be class act just because he is good in badminton. Enjoy the entertainment that athletes and celebrities bring to your life but never make them your or your kids' role models, it's as simple as that.

He's the most immature player on the Indonesian team. He lose control of his ego and start taunting his opponents. I'll give credits where it's due, there were recently several months that he played with zero drama and still won everything. That was really great to see.

While it's entertaining to watch him, and that he’s in fact talented, it reveals how insecure he is as a person. He has to do all this (taunting and what not) simply to put on a facade (to his opponents) that he isn't afraid of them, when in reality he is.
Kevin also has this extremely annoying and un-sportsmanlike habit of blaming Gideon whenever they lose a point. He himself has returned many poor shots, but Gideon doesn't blame him.
Kevin really thinks he's some God of badminton, when in actuality, I think he's a pretty insecure player who masks this insecurity with all the "im not afraid you" taunting.
He really has A LOT to learn from the Big Daddies Ahsan and Hendra

It was all in good fun when he first started to dominate and it got pretty irritating pretty fast. This is what the BEST of the best in sport do: Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, and many more; they understand how important the mental aspect of the game. They are arrogant and always think they are the best; they bully every weakling that is standing in their ways and come across as toxic and mean. They are playing for their livelihood and they will do everything they can within the rules to gain advantage over their opponents. They are NOT out there to make friends like most of us recreational players are.
