The incendiary trap shot came in handy for going through breakable walls. Didn't have to back track for explosive jars.
Incendiary powder trap should be S class because of the ability to break rock hidden walls without finding explosive jars and breaking barred doors. This just makes life soo much easier.
Agreed, that is probably one of the most used ability by me.
I use it for its utility but for me would make it B tier.

I tried to approach that fire trap from a purely combat perspective. I realize it's useful, but you can just swap it out when necessary. I do think it makes it a versatile ability, but maybe not in the context of this video.
@@LegacyGamingUS thing is not every ability is made for combat and to do damage this is ASSASSINS CREED things like raven distraction is useful in stealth and getting chain assassinates so i think ur thinking way to linear and not thinking anything but combat combat combat i actually have played 40. Hours and seen many times where u can be stealthy so yeah
Thorn of slumber is S teir for me, I was level 90 raiding a level 200+ area so I could get loads of tungsten ingots. Pair it with advanced assassination and you can clear out a entire area like a real assassin since you gain a adrenaline slot for a assassination.
Yeah You can literally take out every elite enemy providing you have adrenaline in a matter of seconds
Yes especially when you are having a hard time with a boss or a mini boss and you shoot them with that thing and they will go down and just sit there while you ax them in the face.
Yep you are right, when you are looking for specific items in high lvl areas that skill is very useful.
The amount of walls I've blown up with those explosive arrows when i couldn't find those jars is crazy😂

The fire trap can be used to break down the stone walls instead of finding a oil jar.

The Thorn of Slumber Ability combined with advanced assassination skill, enables you to take down any high level elite, effectively allowing you to farm tungsten early on. This ability outta be much high ranked. It's so useful.
It is a decent way to get 50% xp boost on harder enemies as well. This adds up and is pretty significant especially early game.
Thanks for all your Valhalla gear ranking videos. They offer a lot of your knowledge and experience. I really appreciate them. Just one thing. Although Valhalla might seem to focus more on combat style in the first place, you can actually still play it in a pretty good stealth way, too. The combat style is just your way and so is your ranking. Just for other players to keep that in mind. Other than that, keep up the good work!

After watching his other video on melee abilities and this one, I'm now convinced that he probably hates stealth...
Well it's more of a sub play style 🤷🏻 like it's there but it's probably just more fun and simple to just play agressively but stealth is good for some situations just not every one
By far the best ranged is that explosive arrow one. I don’t use ranged ability’s in combat but that one is really good for word exploration and completion.
Thorn of slumber can knock out multiple enemies to sleep. Definitely deserves more than f rank

I agree with everything on this list. I would say the incendiary trap is a good utility. Get through those breakable passageways and stuff.
Definitely a great utility, but I didn’t want to factor a non-combat element into this ranking

you said it exactly like you were watching my play style. i agree completely with you on the sleep / fire trap stuff. i too play with my bow most of the time followed with a spear/ hammer combo up close. where you hit the mark is the assassination style, specifically the games speed.. i never slow creep an assassination attempt... i always find myself running up from behind or the blind area triggering a stealth kill/ assassination. i always, ALWAYS use the raven as soon as i fast travel in to an area, no matter what my goal for being there is, i always start with a high altitude recon searching for moving treasure on walking patrols. i will always take those out before going after whatever brings me there and i always just run up behind them and target the carrier with a stealth kill assassination. once i kill the target and grap the resources/ treasure i go back to my plan and this works on every area. i have been doing lv 360 areas since lv 40 0r so when i got the advanced assassination ability

Incendiary trap can be used to destroy walls that normally need to be destroyed by a oil jar which makes it a lot more useful

I use the incendiary trap all the time, very useful imo, you can also use it to blow open the destructive walls instead of searching around for a powder keg. Can also blow the bar off barred doors with the 2 tap
In overall usefulness the powder trap is really the most useful, being able to break walls is a lot stronger. Sure in combat not all that useful but for overall gameplay it’s really necessary. Some of the collectables around the map you actually need the ability
You don’t need it but sometimes it’s easier to use this than to find the oil jars
I like the piercing shot because it ups your damage. If you're running through an area underleveled and a normal headshot isn't enough to kill, piercing shot tends to give the ability to kill em.
ive used mark of death since day one. it is so op
got to disagree on the slumber thorn or whatever it was called, I find this really handy if there is a group of enemies grouped together or a high level one in a crowd, you can send them all to sleep then run in and assassinate them. The best thing about it is that when you assassinate you get your adrenaline back so there's no net loss i.e. you can keep using it over and over. Great vid though, really handy!
Both trap abilities and buff abilities are amazing in the hardest difficult combined with said perk for both statues effect allows for consistent damage to everyone plus the buff can be used in conjunction with mark of death. I personally use range abilities in stealth using both the bird plus thorn you can keep multiple enemies unaware as you kill other enemies easily kill groups of 4 in the hardest difficult with ease. If I'm playing aggressive I use a light bow combined with it volley passive with either buff depending on what status I'm going for then use mark of death to immediately apply status to a group followed up with keeping status up with both volley passive and traps if there is an elite I use piercing shot to shoot through enemies to hit weak spots on elites. Aggressive play is whenever I do river raid or raid normally the rest is stealth setup

Focus of Nornir is the best by far. So useful.
Man's best friend is my personal S rank. It was literally a free stomp attack on any enemy that was giving you trouble. Plus when you upgrade it he sticks around and still fights. I love it. Also, extremely useful against the Zealots
I mentioned it before but i never used hunter bows, all light and predator. I miss the ability in odyssey to change your bow quickly though! I do not use the Focus of Nonir, instead i use the light bow for quick rapid damage. Great job on these videos!
Hunter bows just work for my playstyle, not sure why! I agree that not having a way to swap between gear sets is a bit odd, especially given how clunky the ACV menu system is.
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this in the comments section but Piercing shot is incredibly useful for zealots who use heavy shields, I used it a lot to just shoot through the shields and hit their weak spot👌🏻
I want to mention the slumber ability with critical assassination is one of the best ways to get through late game areas as an early game player. Can kill essentially everyone just cycling the ability
I just got this game and I never tried focus of the Nornir because the way its worded made me think it would just speed up my shots didn't realize it was slow time. LOL I have about 35 hours and I'm power level 109 or something lol thanks I'll be using this one now!

As a poison ranged/stealth with predator bow as my main weapon, poison abilities are S ranked, imo... Especially when multiple enemies unknowingly got poisoned and the domino effect happened. So satisfying...
I suppose if there is one thing good about piercing shot it’s that it keeps you stealthy rather that forcing you into the open in order to take shots.
I really appreciate these videos. This is the first AC game I've ever played. I still struggle with understanding the abilities assigned that come with each weapon or armor. I would love to see a breakdown of ruins. which ones are good and which ones can I just sell. If anyone has any explanation for me on abilities I would love to hear it. Thanks Codiac for all you do!

I have to disagree about thorn of slumber, maybe because I'm a low power new player. But I find it very useful when underpowered and out exploring much higher zones for gear and treasure etc. Im more of assassination always sneaking when I can (huge MGSV player lol) and when a lower level, anything to down the harder enemies or key holders etc without a fight is a huge plus. When the objective is in a hut in the middle of camp you can whistle the perimeter guards for an assassination, then put to sleep any guards in a open area to clear the path way to your main goal also. Maybe its a situational thing, but so far its been very useful.
imo the double arrow charging skill is the best bow ability, kill any elite with 1 headshot, and drain boss health bars in just a few headshots, i do that with hunter bow
Thorn of slumber is good because you can stealth kill them after and get you adrenaline back make it higher on the scale
The incendiary trap range ability can blow up and open rubble doors/paths so you don't have to search for an explosive canister.
Thorn of slumber is super good early game as long as you have advanced assassination to kill big target
Mark of Death and Focus of the Nornir helped extremely against bosses
Also Incendiary Powder Trap is so useful because you can break every wall without finding that goddamn jar
Thorn of Slumber deserves more for assassin based style
With over 60+ hours, I must say that Thorn of slumber has made it a lot easier to handle yellow bar enemies, especially when you can instantly kill them with your blade. I typically use it mid combat and it helps me take care of the brutes with ease.
I’ve seen a couple comments like this and I’m convinced I should have ranked it higher. I really didn’t see players using it over some of the other abilities in the game, but clearly I was wrong. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
I just unlocked this a while ago.
I was just thinking the same thing. The control it gives you is invaluable and allows you to reset. That's what makes Rogues in WoW so deadly.
One of my favourite range abilities is rat swarm that is found in France , you light up an area of enemy's and the rat's come up from the ground and devour them and if other enemy's come to investigate they get eaten too
I use powder trap more as a utility instead of looking for pots to blow stuff up
I think poisonous powder trap can be good because when triggered, you can throw a torch at it and make it explode

The incendiary trap is basically just for blowing up obstacles, if it increased range and damage it would be a lot more useful outside of that.
Agreed. I only use it to avoid carrying oil jars to some of the harder to get obstacles. In fact after 120 hours I don’t think I’ve ever used it in an enemy!
You seem to be the only person who doesn’t like thorn of slumber and I doesn’t necessarily have to be used in assassinations. You can use it in combat to get away or get some big hits on something like a zeolite
I find Incendiary Powder Trap to be one of the most useful abilities, as it is a perfect replacement of an oil jar. I blasted most of the blocked doors / debris with this ability instead of walking carefully with a jar of oil, then shooting it. Just like a torch is a perfect replacement for an arrow to break through windows, ice walls, etc. (especially because it has unlimited supplies). Also it works wonders on large groups of enemies standing close together. Piercing shot would be a lot more useful if it worked on barred doors.

I must say; I usually agree with most of ur ratings but the Poison and Incendiary powder traps when used effectively are s tier abilities for sure. If you're wanting to take out fortresses and wanting to get through the enemies asap then especially the fire trap when shot into the groups can take out large groups os minor enemies or chip down the elite enemies to 1/3 or 1/4 health for easy finishings and then the poison one is good for tagging the elites with them and having it slowly chip them down while you focus on the minor enemies and getting rid of them before returning to the larger elite enemies who are then quite low on health. Their highly effective when you know how to use them best.
Could you do a list for best dual wielding weapons or dual wielding combos

Thorn of slumber is one of the best abilities, if you hit a tougher enemy with it or group of enemies, even when they're in combat with you, they fall asleep and can be assassinated
It's an instant kill button on any enemy who isn't a boss fight like the zealots or daughters of lerion

Have to admit I didn't really use many ranged abilities in my playthrough but I'm going to experiment with some of these on some bandit camps. Only ones I really used were the mark of death (very useful) and the incendiary trap to open barred doors and explosive walls.
The only one I find pretty odd is the raven distraction. Would have thought that would be the most useless ability given it doesn't kill anything and costs adrenaline. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Odyssey have a similar ability with Ikaros that didn't cost anything? Having to spend adrenaline on it feels like a bit of a downgrade.
The incendiary powder trap has another use, it's a shortcut to knock down breakable walls instead of searching for oil pots, I discovered this myself and no where have I seen or it mentioned useful tip
I had no idea you were a ranged guy. That’s cool that you still record so much real melee footage, it really elevates your videos. I wish they had a quick way to swap between a main light and hunter bow. Depending on the situation sometimes I went light bow - some weak points on bosses are easier to hit with a machine gun spray. Also, can you break barriers through walls (not necessarily through the door) with piercing shot? Could be interesting if so...
Also that slow mo kill at 10:50 was dirtyyyy
I'm glad SOMEONE saw that =) I'm definitely a ranged guy 100% but ranged combat isn't always 'sexy' so I try and get in the fray when it comes to showcasing footage for these videos. I could headshot all day, but I think people would get bored!

I think the incendiary powder trap should be a little higher than the poison one before you can use on the breakable walls
I got a glitch with mans best friend where it killed a key holding enemy and it bugged out so I couldn’t loot him and wasn’t able to get an armour treasure.. just one of the 100 bugs I’ve seen so far
Piercing Shot may or may not be an “A or B Tier” ability but it is a great way to snipe that one guy with the key you need to get without calling a lot of attention to yourself.
I really think that's the only practical application. If you don't want to spend 10 minutes clearing a garrison and just want a key, Piercing Shot definitely comes in handy.
The sleep arrow is super strong.... I always use it to sleep a group of enemies if they are higher lvl and assassinate them
The incendiary trap as so much versatility outside of combat and allows you to bypass many puzzle it can also interact with oil jars, the poison one cannot. I'd bump it a few ranks maybe not A but definitely not E either

I was always starting boss fights using Focus of the Nornir 4 times :D
Thorn of slumber is literal s+++++++ tier, it allows you to keep stealth even with bigger groups of enemies, i have gotten away with assasinating 6 guys while they were sleeping after hitting one of them with it, without it, i would have needed to somehow split them up or break stealth and go berserker style on them. With chained assasination you can take out 2 targets, but if there is group of 3, 1 guy will always live to fight you and ruin your sneaking around, slap them all to sleep and assasinate them all, in my experience you literally get the adrealine you used back after killing the 3 or more targets with the good ol Hidden Blade
With Ranged Fire strike, if the enemy is still. You can just set the arrow on fire with a torch. Great list though :)
Mark of death is a monster of an ability every Zealot ive come across cant even stand 3 fully charged blasts of it they melt like butter
I find the raven ability to be one of my most used actually. I dont even care to use it in combat. I create a distraction and assassinate oponents in such crowded guard spaces by just having them all look in one direction and take out everyone from behind. As an old AC fan. I wanna play this game like an ac game as much as possible. So i really love this ability and i find that the more enemies you have to assassinate the more effective this thing is.
The incendiary and poisonous powder traps are atleast A tier with their damage, area of effect, post effects and utility
Tbh, I think the trap abilities are better than the strike abilities because of that puff of fire or poison that trigger from the strikes. Unless your green arrowing through and hoard of enemies, the traps are better for clearing groups of enemies from a distance. Kill the first enemy with the arrow and then the 2 trap triggers will cause mass damage depending how many enemies there are
out of the two traps..fire trap id rank a little higher...becuse if you cant find a fire oil jar near a destoryable wall..load the fire arrow...and your good to go
I like to use incendiary trap because it does good damage to bosses and because it can break weak walls instead of finding an oil jar
I only use the explosive arrows to blow up walls and fire arrows to light up the silos and blow up supplies.
switch trap and strike abilities, I tend to use light bow for general purpose and predator for sniping, but even if I was using hunter I would place the traps higher
1- you don't have to shoot the ground for traps, shooting the enemy directly can and does work and at level 2 it acts like a sticky bomb, so if the first blast didn't kill the enemy it'll go off again a few seconds later and it'll be right on the enemy even if they've moved (or if they did die the body will be trapped for any investigating grunts)
2- element poof on tier 2 strike is more or less useless for long range, even giving away your position if you're sniping
3- fire trap breaks breakable walls, I CANNOT emphasize how much time this has saved me, instead of searching around for an oil jar I just pop it with a fire trap and it's open (it'll detonate on hit, definitely deliberate on Ubisoft's part)
4- both axe blizzard and mark of death have a max range, traps do not, so long as there is an enemy where the arrow lands it will go off (perfect for sniping)
5- strike abilities often require multiple hits to ignite/poison an enemy, traps will ignite/poison all but the most resilient bosses, and at tier 2 even that won't save them
I generally use poison trap for when enemies are more spread out (miasma for the win) and fire trap for elites or tightly grouped enemies (and as stated in 3 an essential utility ability)
When the Ireland expansion releases will you cover all the weapons, armour abilities etc in it?

I’m definitely using a couple of the lower rank abilities since day 1 and I’m level 300! The Incendiary Powder is a god send to get into those secret places when you can’t be bothered to carry the nearby oil jars

Think you really missing out with poison trap... Use it with bullseye bow. It just causes so much mess even in a middle of a fight only down side is it kill civilians quickly but for camps etc it's amazing, stealth play with it is really worth a try if you have yet to try it.
