I genuinely have a lot of love for this channel and the people that are a part of it. I am graduating college this spring and have been watching since middle school. Love you guys!
I’m glad Eric is a very insightful commentator because I’ve seen this movie many times and never noticed the visual storytelling and details, which makes me appreciate the hidden meaning behind this movie. Like Home Alone is similar to A Christmas Carol is interesting. And I never noticed that the dad accidentally threw away Kevin’s passport. Love it
1:29:25 The reason he has to do laundry is the same reason he needed to buy a toothbrush; his parents packed his suitcase and took it with them on the trip. Thats also why he needed the milk, they used it up before the trip so it wouldn't be wasted going bad at home.
As someone from Illinois, I’ve always had an extra love for these “older” movies that I grew up with in 2001, since a lot of great movies took place in Chicago in the 80’s/90’s. This, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Ferris Bueller, Wayne’s World, Blues Brothers, etc.
I always wonder if the Santa guy was like “damn this poor kid his whole family is dead” rather than assuming they were missing. If a kid came over and said they wanted their family back, that’s what I might assume 😅
Yeah, that's the vibe I got, too. Kevin never says anything about how he wished them away, he just says "I want my mom and dad and siblings back, and my aunt and cousins i guess, and if he has time, my Uncle Frank". If I was that Santa, I'm not thinking "oh this kid got left alone" I'm thinking "he's an orphan asking Santa to bring his dead family back to life".
44:50 I'm blaming Harry. Because he was so focused on robbing Kevin's house, the Christmas magic made certain that the only child in the area that was not only smart enough, but brave enough and crazy enough to be able to torture, punish, and bamboozle the wet bandits and then get them arrested was home to do it. It then happens again when Harry does not learn his lesson, but then goes to New York to continue to rob and steal, so Christmas magic calls in Kevin again to save the day and punish the sticky bandits.
8:58 In novelization Kevin's dad is a businessman, mom is a fashion designer thus there are manequins in basement and during "party". Uncle who lived in France payed for vacation. 1:11:57 Kevin might've seen the pizza guy standing near cop first night, so of course he's suspicious 1:46:17 The plan is to catch the bandits on the crime scene. Also, John Williams basically put a spin on Nutcracker soundtrack, preparation music is "Carol of the Bells", which is based on the Ukrainian song "Shchedryk". nothing totally original. "The responsible" is sadly unknown but it has to be an adult, cause why would you have passports and tickets in the kitchen? It had to be packed. And one idiot had to bring ALL tickets and ALL pasports there.
Yeah, Making the plane is basically Russian dance. I would say that composer for Anastasia did a better job creating original soundtrack that felt familiar, but didn't "borrowed" so much.
I always thought that the Santa guy thought that Kevin was a straight up orphan whose family died or something and that's what his face changing was about :(
Yeah, he has no reason to think Kevin was just a kid left home alone when all Kevin told him was "hey tell Santa that all I want for Christmas this year is my family back"
Buzz is the real villain of this movie. if he hadn't antagonized Kevin, none of the subsequent mishaps would have happened. this was delightful! Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals! 🎄🎅💖
23:01 It's so funny to me that they think open seating on a plane is crazy because I mostly fly on Southwest and its still that way lol. I like it personally. But I do now live in the Midwest, so I know Southwest isn't as big of an airline out here.
If we're talking about who's responsible for Kevin being forgotten, then that's the parents. If we're talking about what the initial causal factor was, then that's Kevin himself for not wanting to share a bed with Fuller.
I don’t know why they’d want Kevin to share a bed with Fuller anyways cause if Fuller wets the bed then you have two kids to clean up in the middle of the night.

16:00 “parents will never believe they left this kid at home.” In a house with like 10+ kids…it’s absolutely possible 1 kid gets overlooked. Parents have forgotten their 1 and only child at the store before. It’s 100% possible to not notice a kid out of the child hoard 😂
I have nothing but good memories of basements as a kid because basements were not something that anyone had where I grew up. But then we go stay at my aunt and uncle’s house for holidays and stuff, and they had a really nice basement that was basically just more rooms of the house. But it was special to me because I just thought it was really cool to have rooms underground. Felt like something out of a comic book to me back then.
I've always interpreted his "Buzz, I'm going through all your stuff!" taunting as him assuming this is too good to be true and testing if they're actually gone, even if he's doing these forbidden things because he thinks they are gone.

As much as I love this movie there's one thing that always stood out to me that I wish was reversed - so much so remembered the movie differently for several years until I watched it again. Just construction wise Kevin should steal the toothbrush before the cop comes to his door - that way the cop can announce "it's the police" like he should and kevin would still hide thinking the police were still after him for the toothbrush. It'd help the police look less incompetent and just make more sense to me. It's not important, this movie is still brilliant but I always notice it now that'd it'd just flow better to switch the order of those two events. It might even help explain why even doesn't immediately call the cops later as he thinks he'll be arrested too if that became a bit more of a thread thinking that the cops had already tried to get him twice.
