    Interesting. I didn’t know the three types of probiotics and that taking them all together might be beneficial. I take Naturelo’s 50 Billion probiotic and it helps a lot. My doctor recommended Corebiotic which is a SBO probiotic. It didn’t work on its own, but maybe I could add it in now. Also, none of the probiotics have helped with my diarrhea enough to stop it completely, so I have been considering S. Boulardii, but was concerned about taking too many Probiotics. Now I will try adding that in too. Thank you for clarity on this!

    Great video. I would like to recommend two probiotics that anyone can easily find at stores like Target or Walmart. Culterelle and Align. Both of these probiotics have the strains that you suggested. Culterelle has Lactobacillus and Align has Bifidobacterium.

      HI Roman, thanks for suggesting this, they are definitely more widely available than some other probiotics. They may be worth trialing for some people. However, I wouldn't recommend for everyone...both companies have several different products, but for one thing, they are single strains of probiotics, but what I'm suggesting here is that a blend or variety is the intention. Also, some of Culturelle's IBS-focused products contain PREbiotics, which may be aggravating for some, so be aware of that if you choose to buy these. And finally, Align's digestive support probiotics have a dairy-based ingredient in them, sodium caseinate, which wouldn't be suitable for someone who is sensitive to dairy. Ultimately, always read your ingredient labels, and choose products wisely....but also don't be afraid to substitute options if you feel they will work for you. The same rules about introducing them apply: start low, go slow, and see how your gut and body respond :) Thanks so much for watching!

    Thank you for the informative video, as I was confused why the doctor asked me to avoid probiotics after taking the antibiotic for treating SIBO, unfortunately took 2 courses of antibiotic, and I still have SIBO! trying to look for more natural remedies in addition to the low FODMAP diet that I am trying to follow, but found that different people give different list of what is allowed and what is not.

    • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Katia, I'm glad you found the video helpful...yes, probiotics help some but not others, so need to be used with care for SIBO. The FODMAP diet lists do indeed vary, but the main point is to try and figure out which categories of FODMAPS are most bothersome for YOU, so that variability doesn't exactly matter. The list is a guide to help you get there. If you need help navigating this, this is exactly the kind of thing I help my clients with.

    of all the people you say you help, how many have reoccurring symptoms ?
    for the people that took probiotics for SIBO and had success, which probiotics did they take , what dosage, and how much time before they started to notice an improvement and did they temporarily have some side effects?
    documenting this would really help out, if you haven’t already.

    • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I apologize for the long delay, TH-cam hid your comment from me! I'd say it's about 60% need to do ongoing maintenance practices, and 40% are "cured" or are better without needing to do much.
      I much more commonly see people have side effects from probiotics, but for the ones that do well, they tend to use a combo that works best for them at a dosage that works for them. I'm sorry to say it's not consistent between people.
      Usually if they're going to see positive effects, they;ve noticed a positive change within a week or two, and plateau by about 4 weeks. For most people, if they have side effects, they'll quit before "breaking through".
      I hope that helps.

      @@ConfluenceNutrition : that does help and i appreciate you’re genuine, and informative response.
      what kind of side effects are you taking about ?
      i believe probiotics can make a real positive difference with my conditions but i’m not so sure that they brought them in in the first place. i’ll explain and make it quick….i was taking probiotics with a prebiotic when i fought an h. pylori infection.
      nasty nasty symptoms i wouldn’t wish on an enemy. a brutal case of gastritis was the result. five years later and still not right.
      what my fear is that there could be bad bugs in some of those probiotic capsules.
      what are you’re thoughts on this ?
      i’m seriously considering Xifaxan, instead of a probiotic, and kill the bacteria in my small intestines rather than overpopulating what’s already overpopulated.
      it’s a rather desperate situation.
      “sick of being sick”
      a tele-visit with you might help remove the fear i have.

      @ConfluenceNutrition  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ginoasci2876 Hi Gino, side effects from probiotics typically include increased bloating, bowel changes (diarrrhea or constipation), and sometimes an increase in itching, brain fog, etc (histamine symptoms). If you're using reputable brands I wouldn't worry about bad bugs in the capsules, but there may be bugs that don't blend well with your unique ecology.
      Rifaxamin can be a game changer, IF SIBO really is your problem, and taking it can help you assess whether it really IS the problem.
      If you're interested in potentially working together, I recommend you start with watching this free masterclass, where I share the method I use to work with clients. Then if it feels like a good fit, there are instructions from that to reach out to me.

    Which probiotic is good for methane based SIBO

    • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Melody, there is no one single probiotic or even type of probiotic that's good for methane SIBO. There is the principle of repopulating the microbiome with good bacteria, and as I mention in the video, the strategy is to work to bring the three main types into your body, as tolerated. You might find you only tolerate one type, two, or all three. The right probiotics for your methane SIBO are the probiotics your body is willing to accept :) Thanks for watching!

      Yes, I have taken probiotics, but in small amounts because my nutritionist thinks I have SIBO. Additionally, I have an imbalance of bacteria in my large intestine, with more bad bacteria present. I have had IBS issues for a few years now and recently was diagnosed with alpha-Gal syndrome. How do probiotics affect alpha-Gal?

    • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, that is a really interesting question, and I'm not sure of the answer! I know that the alpha-Gal syndrome can cause some severe reactivity to certain foods...theoretically, I would guess that probiotics may help improve your resiliency to attacks, but everyone is different, and for some they may aggravate, just like any other person or condition. Thanks for your question, and thanks for watching!

    Do I need to address SIFO and SIBO prior to probiotics? my microbiome is depleted of lactobacillus probably because I’m dairy intolerant so have been avoiding. 🤔

    • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Angela, this really depends. Some people do well with probiotics before and during, and some do not. In the absence of any clear answer to this question, the gold standard is to see how it feels to use probiotics. If they don't feel right, you'll know quickly, and can stop and move on with your treatment options.
      And in my opinion, SIFO is generally addressed after SIBO, as the SIBO treatment generally leaves fungus more dominant. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
