  • What shutter mode should you use for wildlife photography if you experience rolling shutter? Today I go into detail explaining the three different shutter modes available and the advantages and disadvantages of each. I learnt a lot in this video and I hope you do too. Cheers, Duade

    Duade, this was extremely informative. I really appreciate the information you've provided here in such a strait forward manner. So far I've only used EFCS on my R5 as it still greatly surpasses the speed I got on my 40D. I may try out electronic as some point, but haven't really found a need for that much speed, and I can fill the buffer just fine at 12 FPS.

    Good info! I looked at the R7, but I was concerned about the autofocus and IBIS being a little less reliable then the R5 & R6. I ordered the R6 Mk II and hopefully it will be a step up in improvement of the issues you covered. I also appreciate the tip regarding the EF lens IS system being a little more reliable. I've been on the fence about picking up a 400mm DO II with a 1.4 tele-convertor and your observation gives more to think about in that regards.

    Very informative video. Thanks for doing it. I've seen very few issues with rolling shutter on my Olympus EM-1 Mark III. With a very few exceptions, including my photo that you used in the video, the rolling shutter issues haven't caused any really strange abstracts. From what I understand, the new OM1 with its stacked sensor is even better. I'd guess within a few years rolling shutter will be a thing of the past in new mirrorless cameras. I love the ability to shoot silently.

    You did a great job, thank you very much. I use a z9 so always in electronic, and for what I photo (wildlife) I have not noticed any rolling shutter - but I have not tried to photo things like a plane or drone blade in motion. I think for anyone having any of the newer models from any of the manufactures there has never been a better time to be someone who enjoys wildlife photography.

    Thanks for an excellent video , I have always been using the EFC shutter. My today cameras are Canon R6 and very similar Sony a7IV. When I saw your table maybe they have both a bit of slow reading speed for electronic shutter. On the other hand I photograph birds very much ,around 150-200 photos every day ,so I could save a bit my cameras by using electronic shutter....

    Great video Duade, thank you 👍🏻 like you, I almost exclusively use electronic shutter with my R5 and RF1-5. The only issue I have really noticed is the occasional first frame in a sequence being slightly warped which you have explained perfectly. Appreciate you doing all the research for everyone 🙏 all the best Doug

    Wonderfully well presented Duade! In an earlier lifetime I was a trainer and I'm jealous that you turned a potentially dull and complex subject into one that I was happy to spend time on. Not only that, but I came away with comprehensive and usable knowledge. Great examples and well researched! It's obvious from the comments that you've helped lots of photographers with a topic that was needing just this sort of explanation! Thank you!

    I was going to upgrade from my 7d mk2 for a R7 but I think I will wait until these mirror less cameras come up to speed and sort out these issues, there a bit like electric cars they are new kids on the block and need time to sort out . Very good video well explained.

    That was very informative and I’m going to have to watch again because there’s so much information to take in. It goes along way to explain why only yesterday I was photographing Grebes and the blue square was on the eye but the image was slightly soft due to pointing down to a dark water and the shutter speed crashed. So well Done Duade, you have done such a great job putting this out, will be so helpful I am sure for so many people, I have only used electronic since getting my A9, 5 years ago, will never use mech shutter again lol
    That was so funny hearing that 1DX again, I loved mine but I hated that noise so much !

    Well done video.
    Another problem with IBIS is, that the sensor moves and doesn't looks thru the center of the lens all the time. So distortion is different from picture to picture. This is mainly a problem in videos with wide angle lenses where you often get a warping in the edges even on very stable looking videos.

    Excellent video! The only aspect you missed dMaborter in your video is when shooting indoors. I am a sports photographer and I often shoot indoors in poorly lit places (arena, amphitheater etc) and certain light vibrates at a different speed (hz) depending on the type of lamp (neon, thugtene, led etc) and that causes a sometimes disastrous effect of stripes in the background caused by the electronic shutter, which the mechanical shutter does not

  • @hubbs478
    @hubbs478 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow. That was the breakdown and explination I was looking for. I've recently purchased an R7 and have been using MS but will be switching to EFCS.

    • @Duade
      @Duade  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Larry, I believe EFCS is better due to the reduced shutter shock, if you are using a lens with an aperture greater than f4 we really should not encounter those background issues. Cheers, Duade
