I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.
Just picked up a 5 yesterday to try.
Good luck!
Great new baits matt looking forward to pick up a few thanks for the new bait and as always tight lines and God bless you and thank you for all you do for us fisherman
Glad you like them!
We use these for salt water! Usually for king mackerel. I akways knew they would be great in bass fishing 🎉😊😅 thank you Matt!
Thanks for watching
Cool bait... I bet it will pick off those summer time schooling fish also. I've caught a bunch of big fish speed cranking and throwing deep jerkbaits under schooling fish in the summer like the bigger fish are just hanging out eating the shad the smaller fish kill or injure. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
Thanks!
Thanks for the video Matt. Been waiting for that. Really like the side to side action will need to use it to learn what the fish like. Ill be getting some of those
Me too
It’s really good
Great news, Matt... thanks !
You bet
🍺Ordered numerous colors in all 3 sizes from your TW link👍. Rumor on the street is that they may be available to the public by the end of January🤞. Toledo Bend tournament anglers during the time of year you’ll be there have historically had success fishing traps and jerk baits around grass. This bait appears to me that it is certainly worth a try during practice over grass (where the “Bigs” like to hide) that has not reached the surface yet. 🤠
I also plan on fishing these later this year during the pre-spawn and think it could be deadly post spawn around “fry guarders”.🤠
I’m expecting it to play at Toledo!!
TW is shipping them now, just received mine yesterday.
@@billshepard6664 🍺I received mine as well🤠👍.
Great video! If you could only have one size and color, what would be your choice?
Size 7 in the blue smelt
Thanks you, Matt. This lure might works for trout/salmon on lake mi. Picked up some spinners last year bases
D on your recommendation. Those spinners had boated many fishes for me.
Give it a try
@@MattStefanFishing caught my pb walleyes of 31 inches, 8 pounds on this new lure on a 4th cast on lake MI shoreline today.
The perch pattern should be great on smallies!
Yep
Matt it looks like you were using the size 9 which is 3 1/2 inches and 3/4 oz, or was it the 7 which is 1/2oz. I only saw you throwing the Finisher on spinning tackle. What was your setup? Thanks! By the way it should do really well on suspended fish.
I was using the size 7 on a 7’3” ML spinning rod with 10 lb braid to an 8 lb fluoro leader
Thanks Matt for keeping us informed. What 3 all-around colors would you recommend?
Blue smelt, French pearl and OG blue
5,7,9... any preference Matt? Colors too ?
I like them all but have used 7 the most. Lots of great colors
Do you have anymore info on this Finisher bait?
It’s been 7 months since you released this video.
I have had a chance to use it with limited success, and would like to learn other, possibly more affective applications for it as a non FFS user.
Thanks
ill do more videos on it and love it!
Glad i watch this, I was skeptical of these looks like it doesn't take much movement, like typical jerk baits
They are neat baits
@MattStefanFishing purchased one this morning, sunset color took it out caught a big sucker and about 15 little rainbow trout, it's all about the twerk
Thanks 👍
No problem 👍
That looks juicy. I feel like that'll catch a few here on Beaver and Table Rock.
100%
Nice. Need to pick some up
Yes you do
The BR has come to change the game and THUT is in depth about it. It's an underwater glider/hover.
Thanks for watching
Something new! and in this category remember only JDM Nories Zag stick jerkbait
Thanks for watching
What is the length and action of the rod you’re using please? Thank you
It was a 7’3” ML fast
Chapstick will help keep ice of guides 18:06
Very cool!
If I fish mostly 2-6 ft would this bait be any good for me? It would probably need to be worked really fast right?
You can fish it in shallow water but you’ll need to keep it moving
what rod ?
its a 7'3" ML Fast action spinning rod
Would this be similar to a “twitch” bait? We use twitch baits on the gulf coast for specs and reds.
Maybe I’m not really familiar with what a twitch bait is
Reminds me of an ice jig! One question how much?
Finisher is $9.99
Still not Frozen??
I filmed that in November we are frozen now
Another Berkley knock off of either Jackall or Lucky Craft, I have 1 in chrome, been fishing it for years
What is the name of the bait you are talking about?
Please elaborate. If your referring to the Jackall riser the krej is nothing like it.
@@MattStefanFishing let's start with the 1) nessie knock off of grow design flag. 2) thus bait is just like the Jackall or lucky craft, I can't remember the name for certain but I think it's called the wanderer, I can find out, 3) and yes the krej is the same as the riser, the riser has the same action too and yes it can also go backwards, if u keep rod up and line snug on the fall I will back up too but on slack line it shimies down more vertical. I have had all 3 jdm baits and fish them for quite some time. Matt look at all the other reviews and opinions of the other people commenting, not a good look for Berkley or you or Ike promoting stuff as new and not give credit to original company. Look at spro and kgb collaboration that's how it's done NOT knock off and say it's new !!!!
@@MattStefanFishing yeah I’m sorry but there’s a sinking version of the Riser that is the same thing. Been fishing it for a few years
You grew up with mortal combat too hu?
Haha yep
I wonder what bait Berkley will knockoff next.
How is this a knockoff?
@@MattStefanFishing I know tackle companies have been doing it for years. Just pay homage or a shout out to the original. I get the hustle, I’m not mad it. But it’s not innovation. It’s reinventing the wheel for a cheaper price, and it’s more available. Thanks Matt. Love the channel dude. It’s just my opinion. I’m just a dumb angler.
@@MattStefanFishing i will admit Berkley is smart to get every top fishing TH-cam channel on the payroll.
Where can you buy one ?
The link is in my video description
I can't find it . @@MattStefanFishing
It’s not built from the ground up. It’s just a modernized gotcha plug. Glad someone did it tho!
Thanks for watching
Hey Matt,
Would a Medium-extra fast spinning rod work just the same for the Berkley finisher?
I would prefer it not to be an extra fast
The underwater video from Berkley and Dan Spengler was the first one I saw of this bait. This thing looks absolutely incredible. Can't wait to pick a few up. As far as reaction strikes, this thing is insanely versatile and can be worked like 4 separate ways to get said reaction. Nice video Matt!
Very cool!
Sounds like a plastic got-cha plug Lmao
Haha
Really sorry to disappoint you.
It's knocked off from a Chinese lure 😅 that dates back to 2023 release maybe even sooner.
Someone need to show the Chinese lure to the Berkley engineer's boss 😂.
Bought one from Cabela's, brought it home and it looked exactly like a Chinese lure I already had.
Same shape, same flat belly.
Instantly returned it 😅.
I have tested both in the tank and they swim similarly the same since it looks exactly the same.
The hype is strong.
😮
Rapala Slab Rap swims way better in my opinion.
looks great which size are you throwing? berkley lowered the free shipping amount have to get some!
Finisher 7
It’s like a fluke with trebles. I love a fluke too! Looks pretty cool, like a cold dying shad
Kinda
Cool bait, but I like the Krej better. More versatile. From topwater to bottom whooping. I like the way it goes backwards.
I think the finisher is more versatile honestly but both are awesome
the krej seems more similar to the jackall riser bait to me. more of that skipping topwater minnow imitation.
@BloodRuin you can fish like the riser. However, Krej is a sinking bait. You can crank it, jerk it, and walk the dog with it. When you pause it, it sinks backward to the fish. The shape of the bill will make the bait rise to the surface. Stop it, give it slack, and it sinks backward. Very versatile. Top to bottom. IKE has a video on it.
Is this an effective technique for those of us who do not need to video record our fish before we catch them?
Im excited to try the soft plastic version made by duo realis the BR fish system that is in the same type of lure category.
Definitely new catagory IMO
Awesome video, you show people how to use baits instead of just talking about them!!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed!
So many questions!
(TIP) unscented Lip balm helps keep the ice off the guides, I’ve used this hack for ice fishing with my ice rods.
Would you agree that this shines more in cold water or summer time water or both?
What depths does this lure justice?
What’s your setup for this technique?
And please do a follow up video of this lure when you’ve tried it in warmer (Summertime) waters to do a comparison
I used a 7’3” ML fast action and i started testing it in august with good success and see it being a year round bait
Set up please?
7’3 ML Fast rod
After waiting a few months I finally got my shipment from TW. I look forward to experimenting with them
Awesome!
That looks cool! Were you using the 2.75” or 3.5”?
The size 7 in the video
I'm definitely excited to try these. Long dramatic sweeps left and right, they will get chomped.
It’s so good
If you don’t mind me asking, what lake are you fishing here?
a central wisconsin lake
Good video. You should watch some videos on jigging raps for walleye because the actions are similar. If you hit it harder with a littler slack it will give it more erratic action.
Thanks for the tip
Awesome looking bait and action, which one was you using on spinning equipment, box held up said 5, but it looked like a 9 in those fishes mouth, thanks for showing us this bait!
It was a 7
I really love the action of this Finisher😜👍 I just ordered a few 7 size and 9’s and I hope they are released on time (1-25-24)👍🤷🏻♂️ fun lake and I love the boat😊
I’m excited to use them
Will deep dive cover the lakes in s. Wisconsin
Does it have the lake map ìn there?
Yep
It's just like a salt water pencil darter. We use them up north to catch striped bass and bluefish.Obviously a lot bigger then the one your using
Interesting
You need too put a pool in so you can show us how the baits look coming through the water.
We haven’t broken 10 degrees here in 2 weeks…a pool would not help
Great looking bait. Have you tried a vertical figure 8 retrieve with this bait?
I have not
Looks like this could be a very good bait for a co-angler fishing behind a boater live scoping. can cover a lot of water and generate those strikes on the fish they don't see.
Great idea
Great Demonstration and Explanation on a new bait!
You are a real Pro and it’s just fun watching you fish…and catch and catch.
And that amazingly Beautiful, Tranquil, Northern Wisconsin Lake! OMG!
So peaceful.
I would definitely be the Last Boat off the Water in the Fall if I lived there.
Thank you.
Be well.
Berkley is really killing it with the hard bait's the past few years and I love it because it's really my favorite type of fishing being reactive type fishing
They use science to make baits!
Thanks Matt I missed this bait coming out and I guess that’s because I missed this video it’s what I needed to know so thanks for sending me this link. I’m going to try this on schooling fish.
Good luck!
Thanks
Amazing! What size were you fishing? Keep warm!
I was using the finisher 7
Snap it off bottom like a lipless crank bait 👍🏻
Awesome!
I bought me 2 of them today at Bass pro shop number 9 I will be using those this spring jigging in the western basin of lake Erie
Good luck!
@@MattStefanFishing thank you
Insane action. Thanks for sharing it. Straight to the TW wishlist, again 😂
It’s action I’ve never seen in a bait
Berkeley doing big these lately, what all pros do they have working with them on all these new baits!! Hope they keep it up none the less,, another good informative video, thanks for your time
Berkeley had to step their game up after they saw it was coming. And I’m glad they did.
Lots of pros and and fantastic bait designers
Great video Matt! Awesome new bait!
Thanks! 👍
Now this is news!
Awesome!
People hate on berkley but they really should stop sleeping on them! They’re doing some really cool things
yes they are!
No rush on my part at this time. It's Jan 13 and everything if not ice covered, it well on it's way! With my eyes closed I can skip anything!😅 Brrrrrr!
So cold here
Hi Matt. How long is your flor leader
Thanks. Rick
About 12ft
I am a guy that buys everything... at some point we just need to fish with what we have. So many of these videos seem like a commercial to buy the next great thing when the old stuff works. Not a slam on your vid but just tired of I have to buy something new when everyone one here sold me something last month. My advice is fish with what you have, once you can’t catch anything, buy something new. Talking to myself as the guy that buys everything. at some point its just all marketing. As fisherman we are the dumbest people on the planet and freely give money to all of these bait companies and new equipment just saying. If I had a TH-cam channel as a business I would probably do the same.. I spend thousands of dollars on all this stuff and none is the next greatest thing is all I am saying to new fisherman. Stick to basics and it all works good providing you can find the fish. I apologize for pointing this out. Do like the videos. Just my opinion of course as I buy more stuff that I don’t need. just truth that everyone that promotes a bait already knows.. 90/10 rule find the fish and you will catch them
I understand completely and am a tackle junkie that spends way to much…as i say on my channel all the time anglers need to use equipment they are confident in
Berkley innovation never stops! Which size bait were you using in the video? Definitely need to purchase some of these!!
I was using the finisher 7
Matt where can we get this bait at now?? Our local dealers in west virginia do not have them in stock and said dont know whan they would get them ? Thanks matt maybe i should wait till.end of video to ask my question lol
Use my tackle warehouse link in the video description they are taking orders now and will be shipped the 25th of January and that will be the fastest way to get them IMO
Did put in an order for a few via your link, and got me some core hoosk too. Entering some competion this year but my hardbait game is weak but learning a bait thats new to the market might just compensate for that. I hope. xD So thank you abit extra for not just going "hey this is a great bait" but showing how you fish it. :)
Thanks for supporting the channel!
Thanks Matt Cool Bait , Have you had the ass backwards jerk bait ( Krej ) ?
Yep I’ll discuss tomorrow
Cool bait. I'll definitely pick up a couple. great video.
They are awesome!
As a jerkbait guy, this thing is exciting. Can’t wait to give this a shot. Also, did you get your hands on the Krej? Interested to hear your thoughts on that bait to?
Yep I’ll discuss it tomorrow
@@MattStefanFishing Awesome. 👏
What size were you throwing?
I was using the finisher 7 in the video
I love your channel and keep up all you do but you just make me spend more money lol I just ordered some
Sorry!
There's a lot of baits i want to get. The slasher is on the list. Thanks for sharing.
You bet
Looking forward to fishing them great video thanks
Thanks for watching!
I'm excited to try this for walleye!
Walleye guys loving it
Matt have you tried the new Berkley Krej ?
Yep i like it!
What size were you fishing?
Size 7
Great video and another must try !!!!!!
Yep
nice review what about the berkley krej
Tomorrow!
How did you get into tournament fishing like MLF?
I started when i was 16
Did you start fishing in tournaments near where you lived ?
Woah! I was just seeing this and the new Kreig jerk! The finisher action actually reminds me a ton of the Duo BR head action except a treble version that looks better! Very cool! Can you get this guy suspended at all so you can pause it? And do you know how deep you can still get action out of it?
Also super pumped to see that Kreig!
You can suspend it by working it in place and i could fish out of 25ft on it
Looks good I'll get some of those👍👍👍👍👍
They are great!
What size were you using
I was using the finisher 7
why are you not using bfs or ml bait cast gear instead of the line twisting bail flipping old school spinning rod?
I could argue why would you not be using it on spinning versus BFS gear. You should use whatever makes you more comfortable
@@MattStefanFishing Well said- Amen!
The fact is that sinking jerkbaits have been created a long time ago in the international market as far as the Krej. The fact is also that downward reaction baits have been created ever since fishing was known. Yall just don't know, but people question my skills. They can question what I say, but never who I am. When I tell you I'm killing it on various falling baits, know that I based off the Banjo's slogan, "Reaction Strike." This is why Lake Pro guy will lose to me. He just doesn't know it yet. We'll keep em in the dark. You can stand under my umbrella...la la ay eh eh ya...
Thanks for watching
😂. Is believe he’s talking about the jigging rap and others like it. Sure bud see how those work for you 365 days a year, ripping it thru grass, letting it sit on top of rocks with its back sides shank hook.. see how those work on your FFS (I know some actually work pretty well) but not all- some are wooden or cheap plastic, yours are probably wooden tho..and SURE the banjo minnow was great 25 years ago - although it’s enitrely possible-not even possible- it’s entirely EASILY DOABLE to duplicate a banjo minnow nose hooking any soft jerkbait with a screw lock keeper- or no screw lock just nose hook it. Which was a idea THEY ALSO STOLE..There’s a million baits that are about “reaction” there’s a million baits that aren’t even reaction baits that you can work to draw reaction. But your knowledge can’t be insulted.. just the way you speak and the knowledge you back up you BS with- definitely can, I’m 35 and I catch 4-5-6lb smallmouth in a river in Upstate NY that’s not the St Lawrence nor any you’d know of- yet I can catch them where old timers been fishing it 20-30-49 years can’t figure out. And I use alot of berkley, strike king, visions, miniMAXs, I don’t even use electronics- zero on my kayak- even I can see where these will shine- in the deeper spots where I don’t have to smoke a cig to wait for my sinking jerkbait to reach the bottom then have it have hardly any action because YOU CANT GET GREAT ACTION out of a deep diver idc if your Jacob wheeler- you can’t- they’re the worst- the shallow divers are 100x more erratic- and this isn’t even a jerkbait, I see no lip on it. It’s reallyy in a class by itself -maybe- I do know of ONE similar lure that IS quite old- but it’s obviously NOT this, so intelligence insulted, arrogance spotlighted… good talk and like Matt said, thanks for watching
@@ADKyakman Your ignorance is purplexing. I'm not here to give you secrets.
Do you use a loop knot thanks Matt
I did not but I’m sure you could
Lipless jerkbait?
No similar at all really
I'm excited to order a few
I love them
What depths do these baits go
They sink and I’ve caught fish out of 25ft deep so far
I just pre ordered them
I’m excited to get more!
So where can I get one?
I put the tackle warehouse link in the video description…order now and it ships in a little over a week
Looks like an aggressive hard version of the hover rig.
It’s a crazy slashing hardbait!
@@MattStefanFishing Can’t wait to try it after the ice is gone this spring around Whitewater WI
In Matt we trust
This is a good one!!
Interesting
It’s so cool
Berkley is really pushing the innovation envelope these days! I just saw the Krej on Ike's channel. So many baits that are staples for me already and then they keep coming up with completely new ideas. Thanks for introducing to us!
Couldn't agree more!
Cmon guys! Berkley has been copying Japanese bait makers for years. Love the channel but Berkley and innovation don’t go together. The Krej is a budget version of the Riser 009 sinking version.
All Berkeley does is copy other companies designs, like there last soft glide bait. They used to be innovative.
@@ILLUMINATHAN79No doubt!!!! They haven't been innovative since power bait came out!
@@TroyCote yeah to a giant company that says they have a game changing bait they been working on for years is a slap in the face. Just be honest with customers and say where they got inspiration from. Berkley has been getting away with it for years. From the Sic Fish, the Gilly, the Switch & the Kreg.
