I have been watching test cricket since I was a little boy 50 years ago and this was one of the greatest innings ever in test cricket. Magic things happen at Headingley. Ben Stokes played this to perfection. He played a proper test batsman's innings to start with, playing carefully and slowly, and then built up to an amazing almost T20 finish. It was incredible to watch and has immediately made it into one of my top three favourite games ever. I love test cricket.

It was lost when England crumbled out for 67. It was lost when they had to chase down a 359-run never-done-before mountain. It was lost when Roy and Rory did nothing to strengthen the chase. It was lost when Root fell early this morning. It was lost when Stokes sold Buttler down the river. It was lost when Archer thought it to be wise to slog them around for fun. It was lost when Broad couldn't keep out a yorker. It was lost when Leach brain-exploded a single-that-wasn't. It was lost when Stokes swept himself plumb. Alas, it wasn't. It was won.
Haider Ali Khan England did not win because of poor umpiring. Umpires making mistakes are inevitable occurrences in every test match. This is why teams are allowed two reviews per innings. Australia could have won if they did not waste their review on a no-hope lbw going down leg.

I regularly come back again to watch this astonishing knock by stokes what an amazing game of test cricket ❤💯
I had the same goose bumps pop up as with watching Botham!
other two are ?
@@kashifmahmood6587 Also Headingley, Ashes 1981 (Botham, Willis) and this summer's World Cup final. I don't like limited overs cricket anywhere near as much as test cricket but the finale of the World Cup final was incredible nail-biting stuff.
Clearly, this is from an English perspective. I'm not saying these are the three best games ever but they are three of the best for an Englishman.
Sorry mate this is the second best innings, the best test innings is last year's 153 no by Sri Lanka's Kusal Parera at Durban vs South Africa....

Ben Stokes. What a player. He was knocking the best world bowler Pat Cummins around the park like it was garden cricket. Astonishing
It was won.
So now there are 2 occasions in 2019 when England didn't deserve to win but won anyway because of poor umpiring.
Haider Ali Khan they still had to chase the total so they won the match
Haider Ali Khan England did not win because of poor umpiring. Umpires making mistakes are inevitable occurrences in every test match. This is why teams are allowed two reviews per innings. Australia could have won if they did not waste their review on a no-hope lbw going down leg.
