Don’t replace pans….just weld in some patch pieces as best you can and make it “good enough” for a patina bug. Saves money and time. Doesn’t need to be perfect. You know….low budget type of build like most of us are doing.
YEESSS! Great video, good to see you get back in the saddle with a positive spirit. Hang in there and look forward to the next one. 'Don't call it a comeback, I been here before!' (old skool LL Cool J).
I bet when you pull that engine out you will have a loose flywheel ;) Anyways thats a good engine to do a rebuild on! There is some really good step by step videos and handbooks out there and its quite fun to learn! 👍
Watching you put together this aircooled VW engine together, I just had to think of the only Diesel - powered truck which also had no water cooling system: it's the Magirus - Deutz "Jupiter" 6 x 6 truck in service in the West German Armed Forces throughout the 1970s. Instead of that radial fan integrated in the engine itself, the truck featured a huge fan mounted in front of the engien, with the drive shaft of the fan located between the two cylinder rows, as the Magirus had a V8 engine.
Excellent video CT :) also welcome on message leave you always and help hints too! Also on test drive sound like something seized up and not sure to happen was loud for sure ! But at least got to enjoy a short trip test drive and see too how runs!
So happy to see you aknowledged some facts, both personal and project-wise. We all have our issues. :) Did not see you added oil after the massive leak, might be the reason the engine got stucked?
Hi CT, glad you plan on finishing the projects you want to keep. Of course there are hold ups that you still need to jump around on but just explain why. The bug sounded like something loose inside everytime you turned it off. Just take it apart and see what happened. Could have been the old cam gear shearing the rivets off or something like that. For content everyone will be interested in what broke? I don't think you took the case apart on this one so who knows?
Yes, I would like to see them again it's been a while. I've seen them a few times over the years. First time was at the Visage club in Orlando way back in 87 I think...it was a small club, really cool. didn't really know who they where until later that year when they got really big.
Wait, what actually happened? Did you not have proper oil? Or enough oil? Very strange for a running engine to seize just like that. I’ve owned many dubs and this is strange. Do you know if the engine failed or is it driveline related ?
@@CTmoog Thanks for your reply! Have exactly the same engine and i want to replace it! Keep up the great work!! Looking forward for the next video!!!! 🙏 🙏
Ja ja, daß kommt davon wenn man mit 3 cylinder fährt , ich kenne das Problem mir ist es nicht nur einmal passiert, bei 6 VW Käfer hatte ich diese Vorkommnisse? LG.herbst
I am confused as to what happened to the engine. Granted, I have a poor ear for assessing the health of an air-cooled VW engine with a bad exhaust/muffler. Without a good exhaust, they all sound like they are about to blow up to me! Potentially, too much end play that allowed the crankshaft to move enough to hit the block and lock up? Just ran out of oil? I’d enjoy watching an teardown video to see what happened?
It would be a waste of time at thins point. It needs new heater channels, a filler, b filler, etc to make it a good driver. Will come back to it after we get Georgia and the Ghia done.
it would quite a lot healthier and just as effective tu use a little diesel to remove grease, i dont understant the trend to use brakeclean on all and everything ??

Good thing those old engines are easy to rebuild. At least you got to drive it. So excited to see Georgia back in the line up soon.
Yes, I don't really know how to build one but my buddy Darrin does! =) Georgia will be running down the road soon! 😎😎😎

good idea! save the pans for a better build.
A wise decision for that new shedule CT ! 👍
Can't wait to see the work again on the Karmann Ghia .
Thanks man! =)

Love a good wrenchin video. Can't wait for the next
Great progress CT - Keep it going, you’re doing great!
Thanks Devon!
I like your enthusiastic outlook. Thanks for the share of energy you bring to my day!❤️❤️ ( 🌿!
Have an amazing day! 😎😎😎
CT I like your plan. You can do it!
Thanks man! 😎😎😎
I recommend a vehicle raffle for Alabama. I have no time, space, or budget for another bug but I’ll gladly take it 😂
Great job CT. So entertaining to watch!
Thanks so much! =)

Yes,couldn’t understand why he didn’t torque it !
Gotta love it , I just replaced my oil cooler seals, not the end of the world. What a nice project.
Thanks so much for this video, about to re-marry my transmission and motor, really helpful!
Awesome! Thank you! Good luck!!! 😎😎😎

It’s rider’s ON the storm, no big deal 😂
Damn you’re getting good at putting those bugs together 👊.
Thank you! 😎😎😎
That Wolfsburg logo on the steering wheel makes me happy
Happy Sunday morning!
Happy Sunday!!! =)
That was a surprise. The engine sounded great.
Great video! Great content. Simple old wrenching at its best.
Thanks 👍
That was awesome CT!!!

Awesome job, I am surprised you didn*t paint the housing unless you are going to do it when you check that oil leak.
Be good to see Georgia up and running
A name for the Karmann-Ghia could be "Carmen".
I like it! =)
my Grandpa had a gascan like that too for his lawnmower
Would be very interesting to make a video of you rebuilding it!
I might do that! 😎😎😎
Nice job sir cool VW Beetle good show sir 😃👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
That is a Gland Nut for the Flywheel. 🙂
I know it’s not, but you make it look easy……
Thanks buddy!
With no engine and no floor pans you ought to be calling Bama... Fred! (Flintstone) 😁
😅🤣😂 - thanks! That's funny! =)
turn the tube around on gas cable to carb. and on spring rids on top
Sorry about that engine! But, looking forward to the Ghia and Porsche projects....
Alabama and Georgia frame need to get together if it is still available, it would simplify the process at a later date when you are ready.
Well she ran for a minute. Bet the flywheel came loose.
Yes, this engine needs a rebuild....

Bama moves at least nice running bug

yeap I concur the Oil seal on the Oil cooler is leaking for sure, not bad though
That makes two of us Im near sighted too, I hate prescription eye glasses
Hope you get to the Jane’s Addiction show in Tampa CT.

Jacksonville show was awesome last night!
Awesome
Mustie1 sometimes has found that those Oil cooler seals need to be taller so they wont leak
Happy Days!
Sounded like the exhaustvalve on cyl. Nr. 3 chose to part with the valvestem and visit the combustionchamber. 😓😓
yes, that might be it...
Is it worth getting a hoist instead of the jacks. Great work, that cars got a bit of character.
Good video, thx!
pre-fit a Right hand side plexy Glass floor pan 🙂
I believe that you dropped a valve in one of the cylinders that's what stopped that engine in his tracks.
Sach is a good brand it’s a German company I know
Me gustó esa batería, saludos maestro....
Well...that was fun....till it wasn't. Be interested to see what smurffed up.
Yes, that a blast for minute.....engine is worn out most likely.
CT. Time 🔧
Thanks Atom! 😎😎😎
whoa... wait a minute, did i miss the part where the flywheel was torqued?
De bug has to take a leak 😀
Hi My Dear Friend Very Very Great Job ❤❤❤❤❤
I think your next project might be a….: Chevy Corvair. The American air -cooled rear engined econobox. It’s a suggestion that’s all.
To slide the vehicle dish soap and an old bed sheet, should work.
haha! Sounds messy! =)
Engine mounts should be changed.
It’s alive!
Wait, what actually happened? Did you not have proper oil? Or enough oil? Very strange for a running engine to seize just like that. I’ve owned many dubs and this is strange. Do you know if the engine failed or is it driveline related ?
And take the time to power clean it before body put back on?
22:45: No steering wheel. Elon Musk would say: "Let's go - and see where it goes!"
Confirmed, you DID NOT tighten that gland nut down to spec, That is why it failed. and I'm not sure, locktight could also have been used.
Why not give it a quick coat of paint while it’s disassembled..! 😮
Good Job CT!! I really enjoy your videos!! What diameter is the clutch?? 200mm or 180mm? Thanks in advance!
Thank you! This one is the 180mm for the 40hp 1200cc engine.
@@CTmoog Thanks for your reply! Have exactly the same engine and i want to replace it! Keep up the great work!! Looking forward for the next video!!!! 🙏 🙏
@@efstratiou2015 Awesome! good luck! Thank you!

Bonjour ct vous êtes un spécialiste des moteur w w bon diagnostique
Whatever happened to Rusty did you sell the vehicle?
How much do you want for Alabama will you do some trading on it.
maybe...what state do you live in?
when are more fiero episodes ?
Oh you dont have the round bellows thermostat on those buggie engines
Is that play on the gearbox axis normal?

Do some bloopers
A driver 😮
Why would you not weld those pans in before body??

when you moved before the engines was off
the bug that pees his pants
