I agree with you. When I first heard Satan's line I had the same train thought as you: So Satan ruled like the Abyss that eventually became Hell with Lucifer's arriver. And with his line that Imps were created to be obedient I thought maybe that's why they were created. As a kind of army of Satan. But, with your video I find out nope, it was just Satan having a cool line for the sake of having a cool line....
This will probably be a bigger issue when people go back to look at the show in the future. I can imagine people who weren't here to see social media posts or livestreams being confused with issues in the show, and over time that can pile up to where you'll feel like you're missing something and not understanding why so many people praised the show online. The writing and animation have both improved a lot over time though so hopefully we'll see more show, not tell in the next 2 seasons.
it could also be interpreted as satan simply viewing himself as the leader and thinking of lucifer as an incompetent one as he needs to do most of the stuff that would actually make up a leader while lucifer just sits around making rubber duckies, in hazbin we have seen that most don't even know what lucifer LOOKS like while satan seems widely known and feared.
I feel like just one cut to anyone saying "what a load of bullshit" after Satan's line wouldve made it so much clearer like maybe the Spanish parrot guy since it'd add comedy while making it clear to not take Satan statement seriously
I think the reason they don't call attention to Satan's line is for fear of interrupting the song. But they could easily do it afterwords. Like as everyone is leaving, just have Ozzie mutter under his breath "ruler of the endless dark... what a bunch of bullshit." THAT would bring across what Vivzie meant without interrupting the song.
Viv's shows have very good animation, voice work and you can tell people with talent poured their heart and soul in the creative process... ..But sadly this does not extend to Viv herself. She's very good at getting people with talent to help make her passion projects into reality, but it's clear that she herself is not very good at creating a world or writing a plot that works.
Something a lot of people overlook is that the book Charlie is reading from was given to her by her parents at a very young age- Meaning it might be giving some major red herrings or at least a simplified/glazed over version of the story that Lilith and Lucifer want her to know/also their perspective. If lucifer is really as "self loathing" as he is portrayed as then its reasonable to assume he BELIVED he created hell after giving humans free will, when really he only was banished to it; Not knowing that it was a pre existing place the elder angels kept on the dl. Thats just my lil theory tho, or Satan could just be using that as leverage against the other demons.
They should have said during the episode that he tends to make himself look more powerful than others and that he likes to twist stuff to make himself seem more powerful anything to make him look way more powerful than others also they could have established that he's a liar but he doesn't always lie about stuff so when he says that he was the original ruler it's up to interpretation if he's telling the truth or not he could be lying he could not be we don't know but all we know is that he cannot be trusted as a source of information you know they could have done that instead of just going on Twitter and saying oh no this was actually the original attention so much for leaving it open
Short of going back in time, at least the medium of HB means they could always add some of this word of god information into short(s) (presuming it's too difficult to add to stuff currently in production). It'd be heavy-handed and I doubt they'd ever do it, but I'd just love to see some of this information in the animated form in some capacity if for some reason it isn't in the show itself. It's a shame that something about their writing/concepting/production process overlooks the need to clearly include info like this because Hellaverse content is so good in so many other ways.
I really like that show, but I 100% agree with what you said. Explaining the lore on twitter and live streams is a joke. Also, what is even the point of Satan lying here? It doesn't expand his character, it's just confusing.
I've seen some people theorise it's to set up a plot to indicate Satan is trying to usurp Lucifer by gaslighting the citizens of Hell into thinking he has a more legitimate claim to rule than he does... but if that's true this is a bizarre way to go about it.
