    The pink followed by yellow ink is my favourite way to paint yellow - I love the browny-orange it makes in all the recesses, and it's dead easy to boot.

      Yeah it’s now my new go to for yellow

    • @liberatumplox625
      @liberatumplox625 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you were to undercoat purple, then apply a pink zenithal, followed by a white zenithal; the yellow contrast layer would make the transition from yellow > deep yellow > orange > brown.
      Alternatively, you could undercoat pink, then apply a white zenithal and a purple 'anti-zenithal.'
      I haven't tried it yet - but the colour theory checks out - and it just makes sense intuitively too.

    Imperial Fist yellow is so good I can't believe it's real. It really feels like cheating.

    • @Smilomaniac
      @Smilomaniac ปีที่แล้ว +16

      It’s great, but People should know that if you do zenithals, putting this paint over it will give that green tinge.
      What you do instead of white over black, is do white over pink, brown or tan.
      That way the one coat contrast yellows will look much nicer and more contrasted, without relying on slopping it on.

    • @imefix
      @imefix ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Smilomaniac Yes, zenithals and pre shading with colors is a great tool combined with contrast in general. But I was manly talking about coverege, sorry for not being clear. That thing is amazing for achieving a smooth yellow surface, besides using an airbrush, of course

      ...and yet, shouldn't paints just work? Really?
      Why are so many shades known for their poor coverage, or streakiness, or whatever, when per volume they cost as much as a 200 year old scotch malt!
      I think it'd be better to produce a score or so colours that work, rather than several hundred that don't.
      IMO.

Definitely interested in trying the white over pink method. Looks great. I'll also use daemonic Yellow by AP for some stuff since it's quick. Wish I could find the colour forge stuff in the US. I'd like to try it.

    Imperial Fist contrast over white is amazing. For my HH Fists, I did that, then the new formula Cassandora Yellow all over shade, with a layer of Phalanx Yellow, and Dorn Yellow for edge highlights (keeping it on theme). The new MkVI marines have a lot less detail than the models in the video, so the layering/cleanup stage after the all over shade is a lot faster, and honestly pretty fun! Great video guys.

    Undercoat the mini with bone color like Skeleton bone or Wraithbone and then apply Cassandora yellow all over the mini. Recess shade with Seraphim sepia and if you want apply highlights. Really simple and effective but I’m unsure how it works with the new recipe for Cassandora yellow

    I always liked to prime my models (those I wanted to paint yellow that is) with Zandri Dust. It's absolutely perfect base for any yellow paint to go on (regardless if you airbrush, dry brush or just paint layers). Hint for anyone dry-brushing: instead of wiping your brush into a paper towel, instead wipe it on a wooden pallet. This way you avoid the moisture being sucked out of the brush, and prevent the end result from being chalky :)

    You should try a white (or off white) base with either black or brown lining (recess shading as you say) then either dry brush yellow (or use contrast yellow) over the whole thing. The big thing here is to get the recessed areas dark with a light base then apply the yellow over the whole thing. You can do highlights after that too.

Montana makes both high and low pressure and the spray can be adjusted with different caps, which are less than a dollar.

I'll add, if you start with a more ocher colour like Averland Sunset, you can shift it to a more vibrant yellow very easily by washing it with a yellow ink. Also, for recess shading I really like sepia washes/inks as they enhance the mid-tones of the yellow. Lastly, bright colours really react well to oil washes.

My previous application was Iyaden Yellow Contrast with a dry brush of Scale 75 Sol Yellow, as I greatly desired a matte finish that Scale 75 provides. However, seeing the pink/white spray option with Imperial Fists Contrast over it, that is definitely an interesting combination that I wish I could have used from the start. Certainly something to think about, and probably a good motivation to finish this army ASAP!

      You should! Honestly my new favourite way to paint yellow, and I was so tempted to paint up a hello kitty marine using that spray 😂

      @@thepaintingphase I mean that's a video idea right there. Hello Kitty themed invictor warsuit. I bet you could find a real HK toy to pilot it.

    i was impressed by the white with contrast paint, not a big fan of the black primer for the yellow.
    The yellow primer kinda looks like the darker areas of the yellow contrast paint, so i'm curious trying it out as a base, and then dry brush to lighter colors.
    The ones with pink primer looks a bit orange, but it does make them alot warmer in tone, will definitely try it out as well.
    Overall a great video, now i know everything i need to know before painting yellow.

    unfortunately i have to piant nameplates atm - for example Batman ;) and thats where i can only go with a full black spray and paint on the yellows as i really dont feel like masking for 2 hours. i usually always start my yellows with a pinkish/red tone which adds so much to the yellow afterwards.
