Yeah, it was an idea I had in post and worked _well enough_, so I kept it. In the future if we plan to do something like this, I'll be sure to make sure neither of us are wearing blue clothing, haha.
The longest boat ride I've ever been on is the boat ride from the parking lot to the gates of Disney World. Glad you had fun hanging with good friends and eating food.
I went on a cruise to Europe with my family back in my sophomore year of high school, and I loved it. I luckily don't get seasick, so I'm a big fan of them. I enjoyed the "eating whenever you want" aspect a lot... especially the dessert bar. Good thing we walked around a lot to offset all those cakes I ate.
i actually have family in ensenada and i used to go every summer, so watching this and your vlog about ensenada was actually super cool! i saw a lot of places i recognized, and that hotel you got a shot of is where my grandparents actually got married! and having gone every summer for about 15 years, i gotta say i agree with your analysis of the city; a lot of the city tends to be low-mid class and it does kinda show. i remember seeing lots of stray animals and lots of trash on the streets. but i will say that if you ever go back there, the food is AMAZING. the place you got off the boat at is called first street, which is the big tourist hub, but around the docks there's a little hidden place by one of the docks where there are a bunch of taco places, which was always one of my favorite spots. i can't say if it's representative of mexico as a whole, but i would say that if you could go back again it's worth a second shot if you can get away from first street!
I'm ecstatic that you guys had a great trip and enjoyed the cruise!! You both deserved a relaxing vacation from the work you do. I've never been on a cruise and would like to go on one. Also, I'm with you in eating and talking with friends because it's nice to just sit down and talk with your friends once in a while. That ending was too adorable!! :)
Since you mentioned wanting to go back to Mexico/maybe trying a resort, my husband and I went to the Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya in February for our honeymoon. All inclusive, super chill, dolphinarium/spa on site, lots of tours to sign up for, and there were resort cats. It definitely was not a party resort, which I really appreciated, and it sounds like you would too!
I read this while waiting for the ad to finish. I thought "Oh like a 20-30 minute vlog then". Nope. You really weren't kidding when you said long vlog.
I've been on four cruises with Royal Caribbean and going on my fifth in July. I've had 3 good experiences but last year it felt as if everything went wrong. The weather in Russia was so bad that the ship was stuck in port an extra day which meant we had to skip a port and then we arrived back at Southampton a few hours late. The boat was definitely rocking due to strong winds on that occasion. But the other 3 cruises were fantastic. Sure one year, a ventriloquist was on board and six months later, he won America's Got Talent!
I was on a school trip ti venice where they have boats instead of busses and I experienced “the floaty feeling” whenever I came from a boat to the ground. I specifically remember asking my friend if she thought that the workers on the boat just permanently had “the floaty feeling” Because they did it so much every day xD
If you go back to Encenada go during the Baja 1000. Completely different atmosphere and the city really comes alive. I'm sure you're not into desert racing but the town is completely different during the race.
The only cruise I've done was in Germany it was a river boat cruise the boat was very small but unlike being on the ocean it wasn't so wavey. I went during late November so we visited a lot of little Christmas villages so that was cool.
Well, on the subject of Mexico, if youre looking for beach resorts, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Rosarito come to mind. For culture and history, definately Mexico City, Zacatecas or Puebla. Thats all I got, I dont really travel that much ino my OWN country hehehe.
If I may, I found the jangly jazz music distracting at points, mostly when the saxophone started periodically wailing. I loved everything else, though!
Disclaimer: The following is a long and arduous read. Viewer discretion is advised. I went on two cruises, one for my sister's high school graduation and one for myself. Both cruise lines were Princess Cruises and the service, not to mention the trip, was stellar. There is a buffet that has long hours, but not 24 hours, and there was a plethora of miscellaneous restaurants and shops with similar dining styles. Of course, there was quite a bit of entertainment on the ships themselves, but we didn't find ourselves doing that often. More often, we just hung out and relaxed much like you guys did, although art shows featuring paintings, fruit sculptures, and ice sculpting caught our attention. Like most cruise ships, I'm sure, there was an outdoor track, hot tubs, and both an indoor and outdoor pool with screening movies above the outdoor pool for both ships. Personally, I don't get sea sick easily, but I felt as though that both trips weren't very shaky didn't induce sea-sickness. The first trip was to Mexico and we went to a two cities, one which is Cabo San Lucas and another city (I forgot :P). People there weren't really approaching us and asking us to buy stuff, like you said in Turkey, although it was clear that the cities were clearly catered to tourists. Of course, my family was aware of it and asked for tours outside of the city, which I felt was really good. The pinnacle of the trip was when a guy put a lizard on my hat and an iguana in my left arm (which became my profile picture at one point for a picture. Didn't even realize they were alive until they started moving haha. Aside from that, we went snorkeling and went to some dolphin show. The second trip I remember better, which was a trip to Alaska, which detoured twice at Victoria Island, and traveled to places like Juneau, Ketchikan, Whittier, and Glacier Bay. This was the cruise I'd arguably enjoyed more. Like every cruise location, the cities themselves were dedicated to tourism, although they weren't actively approaching people. Interestingly enough, as we went further up, the townsfolk seemed much more at ease and less pushy (and towns got less populated). It was a rather chill environment overall and, if you venture out of the city, there are some very beautiful sights and hikes should you plan for it. Although I thought it was fine, it'll definitely be colder for the local North Carolina resident, so a good amount of clothing is recommended. One of my favorite moments is going kayaking and taking in the sights, watching glaciers, and filming whales swimming a few hundred meters away.
Oh hey, I went on that same Alaska cruise too. Stephen, if you're watching this, this is definitely a cruise worth going on. Sure it's MUCH colder, but the destination is so much more worth it, and while in my opinion, the actual cruise activities weren't the most stellar or immersive, it was still an overall better experience simply because the sights of Alaska are just THAT much better.
Don't get me wrong, turn your Adblock off kids and support awesome content creators like Stephen and Mal. But one of the worst parts of the issues TH-cam is having right now is the SAME ADS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. This freaking Deadmaus MasterClass ad was actually really cool...the first FIVE TIMES I saw it. I'm way over it already, and when it plays as a mid-roll (again, no hate, I have a channel too), it's unskippable.
Heh yeah it's always been a bit much but definitely gotten worse. For me it's Daily Total One ads for contacts. I have never worn contacts. Stephen and Mal are pretty much the only creators I won't skip ads for.
Being a creator myself, I came to a point where I couldn't stomach the hypocrisy of blocking ads myself while hoping my viewers watched the ads on my videos. I understand the distinction, but I think you should whitelist any channel you are subscribed to, at least.
I've been annoyed by that freaken make up commercials have been my bane however the same ones over and over. But I love the youtubers I watch. so I tell my self it's for them even if it's only a little. Ive gotten really few ads actually now and I'm concerned but less annoyed
I've seen the Wix "build your own website" ad about 100 or so times, a weird ad about pet dental care preventing pets from having "British teeth" (not sure why the advertisers thought that was a good idea) about a dozen times, Super Bomberman R about 20 times and this vehicle commercial with an older lady driving fast through intense situations about 15 times.
I was on carnival triumph a year or so ago. We went through Mexico so it was actually a blast. The burger place was okay Imo but we had people to order from kinda. The pizza place was bomb tho! I ate at the pizza place so much I made friends with the workers. Haha it was amazing
Watching this vlog kinda late, but I went on this cruise a while back and I'm sad that you guys didn't discover (or mention) the steam room in the locker rooms by the gym on the upper decks. It's very nice to just go in and zone out and sweat and open your pores If you ever want to do an Alaska cruise, do it with Princess or Holland. I've been on the Princess Cruise and a friend went on Holland and both are very good cruises
I went to an over-night cruise with my husband and some of my friends about 1,5 years ago. There were alot of drinking involved, and me and my husband ended up in bed together with another married couple. We saw eachother several more times during that weekend, and eventually figured out we really liked spending time together, apart from the physical side. We are now in a comitted, long-distance polyamorous relationship together and have never been happier :)
The last cruise I went to back in December had me feeling the motion of the ocean for like 2 weeks after leaving the boat. I feel like the pacific ocean is much more rougher than the atlantic? I do remember my Carnival cruise was way rougher than Royal Caribbean.
When I first saw how long this vlog was, I immediately thought it was First20 length. Then the video started and thought I was watching a panel. I'm somehow okay with all of this.
This has nothing to do with a cruise but i remember i went to sea world when i was young and apparently they had a performance of cats the musical on water skies which was weird yet fun. One of the actors fell into the water and I thought he was drowning for a moment but i guess it was planned.
Stephen- for your motion sickness, why didn't you consider going to the medical center on the ship? I'm pretty sure they give out patches for alleviating sea sickness.
For Mexico, I'd recommend Mexico City and Yucatan. Mexico City has a ton of museums, including Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera's house, Trotsky's house, the Cathedral in the Zócalo, the Templo Mayor... you won't run out of things to do. Yucatan has the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza and in general a more jungle-like environment, and it's tourist friendly but as long as you don't go to Cancun you're safeish from commercialized stuff. Other than that, the rest of the country isn't all that great right now. Maybe when you decide to go things will be better.
By the way Stephen, from watching these cruise vlogs, you guys actually inspired me and my fiancé to book a cruise of our own for our honeymoon. So thanks for the inspiration!
I feel like we're being treated to that extra fluff and filler you see on DVDs/BluRays. It's like where a lot of details never make it into the final cut of the film, but are elaborated on more clearly for the audience to digest.
I'm curious about the whole seasickness thing. I've been told that there is a correlation between seasickness and getting sick on a roller coaster or amusement ride, etc. So does that mean that if I don't get sick on a roller coaster I won't get sick on a cruise?
Rides can make me feel a little uneasy, but I don't think I've ever been "sick" on them. Mal either. So if there's a correlation, it definitely skipped us :S
Wicked3DS I grew up with really bad motion sickness and still experience it to some degree. However I've never had any problems with rides. Often if you have problems with rides you also get motion sickness but it doesn't necessarily go the other way, as in not having a problem with rides means no sea sickness.
I think i'd love to go on a cruise...but I'm canadian and I have to factor in a lot of extra expense for flying etc..soooo blah :( I could live on a boat
Aaron W. Carter I honestly don't remember why I asked this. I know about blue screens so I guess I was confused as to why it didn't pick up on mals shirt
The only free beverages are water, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. You can purchase individual beverages (soda/alcohol) throughout the ship, or purchase a beverage "pass" for either soda or alcohol. The passes can be extremely expensive, though.
ThePisceanDragon I know it's not wrong and I'm not saying Mal has to keep it on for every second of every minute of every day. it's just...strange to see her hands naked instead of her ring on. something uncommon...yet normal
MalMakes thank you for replying to me! It was one of the first things I noticed...and had to do a double take! I'm glad you and Stephen had a wonderful time in LA!
Wow! That background blue wall/screen was super cool!
Also the lighting was super good in this one.
Clever idea using the blue wall as a blue screen. Too bad it didn't work too well with Mal's shirt lol.
Yeah, it was an idea I had in post and worked _well enough_, so I kept it. In the future if we plan to do something like this, I'll be sure to make sure neither of us are wearing blue clothing, haha.
dont you mean it worked wall enough, you can blame chugga, i have been bindge watching him and his puns rubs off
Bill Burr does a great bit how you never hear someone come back from a cruise and are ecstatic about their experience. This video reminds me of it
The longest boat ride I've ever been on is the boat ride from the parking lot to the gates of Disney World. Glad you had fun hanging with good friends and eating food.

Because no one has posted this, happy belated dating anniversary Stephen! :)
Also, more references!!
Day 82: 46:17 - 46:21
AHA! So that was the "special date" Mal mentioned in the previous vlog.

whoa nelly is that a long vlog, we appreciate it

My first cruise i ever took was to Puerto Rico. watching this i want to take another cruise there and my boat was the same way as yours.
If you ever take another cruise, I highly recommend the Norwegian cruise line. It was amazing. Princess is also very good as well.

Yeah as someone who has been on a cruise, every port town is full of people offering foreigners things. Sadly it's something you have to put up with.
If I may, I found the jangly jazz music distracting at points, mostly when the saxophone started periodically wailing. I loved everything else, though!
I'm assuming putting the vlog onto the wall was an after thought because otherwise Mal probably would have chosen a different colored shirt.

Nice use of the blue wall behind~~!!
But sometimes it got a bit awkward since Mal wore blue clothes as well......
I've only gotten properly seasick from slamming into the deck of a fishing boat for 20 mins
I do believe the whale watching place you mentioned was the point vicente interpretive center...
I should check it out

"There was one segment I didn't shoot, because I pooped a lot--" *cut to commercial*
Perfect timing, TH-cam.
Any plans to go on vacation with Mal's dad and stepmom this year?
Obligatory "this was my birthday!" comment, and happy belated loviversary! \(^o^)/
was the food free on the cruise?
I mean, we technically already paid for it when we booked the cruise-it's all-inclusive.
i did not know you would reply to my comment Stephen :)
By the way Stephen, from watching these cruise vlogs, you guys actually inspired me and my fiancé to book a cruise of our own for our honeymoon. So thanks for the inspiration!

How did you mange to get video footage behind you? Did you use a green screen?
Mike Shoe Its a blue painted wall so he used the blue screen technique.
Aaron W. Carter I honestly don't remember why I asked this. I know about blue screens so I guess I was confused as to why it didn't pick up on mals shirt
You guys should get meds for seasickness.
Stephenplays Final Fantasy VII?
Just 9 more?
Is the alcohol free or pay for them?
The only free beverages are water, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. You can purchase individual beverages (soda/alcohol) throughout the ship, or purchase a beverage "pass" for either soda or alcohol. The passes can be extremely expensive, though.
Okay thank you
I honestly don't care much for cruise's tbh.
Has Mal off her wedding ring because off when she is painting? I focused on stephens hand for some weird reason and saw no ring on Mals hand
Given your enjoyment of horrible karaoke singing and people encouraging them to do it, I wonder if you'd like the movie "Florence Foster Jenkins"?
Um....did anyone else notice Mal not wearing her wedding ring? Not that it's bad but...extremely different and something I'm not used to
Crystal Yu I take mine off when I've been cleaning/handling raw meat for dinner. :^]
ThePisceanDragon I know it's not wrong and I'm not saying Mal has to keep it on for every second of every minute of every day. it's just...strange to see her hands naked instead of her ring on. something uncommon...yet normal
Sometimes I take it off for whatever reason (cleaning, gardening, whatever) and trust me, I feel weird when I don't have it on too!

When is Baby Georg coming? And have you ever thought about names? Top 3 Girl names and top 3 Boy names? PLZ!
