I remember watching one of your colorado videos a few years back, you showed a back tap tool, i bought one then and i must use it at least once a week on customers cars. The peoples pay attention to your content sir Happel!
joe whats up dude jason here skate buddy from fredom plaza awsome video brother, plus my foxbody is running freaking outstanding dude, my son freaks out when the boost hits hard and the car goes sideways loves it man thanks again
Great video. I really appreciate these long walk throughs. Would have loved to see the plugs and what you were looking at to determine that they could take more timing. I am trying to tune my wife's 64 nova, LSX, 88mm turbo, no intercooler, dominator, E85, on the street and it has not been easy to learn for the first time around. Luckily the LS3 that was in it before was previously tuned for E85 professionally, but we engine swapped it after it blew, and now it has a bigger cam in it, so the old tune is pretty off, but getting there. Get feeling better!
Joe, this car is a great example of how slow the GM air temp sensors are. You can see in the datalog that the sensor shows a gradual rise in temperature throughout the run. The actual temperature should follow the boost curve on a non-intercooled setup. Would be cool to see a comparison versus one of the new fast-response sensors out now.
I beg to differ. You can see it immediately nose over when he let's off. As boost risies it actually gets into a more efficient zone. If efficiency started dropping, you'd see it ramp up faster. Grab a mid-90's Honda IAT if you want to see slow, it takes 5 seconds to register any heat from your finger. On a 25psi pull it would go up 2-3F max.
@@hydrocarbon82 Anything less than an immediate rise with the boost curve is a delay. I would really like to see this yested with a variety of sensors in the piping before the intercooler.
The biggest difference I noticed with the fast-response sensor is when you let off the throttle getting out of boost. It was a slope down with the stock sensor. With the fast sensor it is more of a concave U shape and the temp drop is alot faster.
@JoeSimpsonAtTempest what timing would u start with stock cam only 5.3 sloppy stage 3 aftermarket fuel system 250 shot? Im at 20° i ran 23 at 225 shot car ran great
Woeful power for the boost, engine, and turbo. Would make 100hp more at 5psi less with an intercooler. But makes for neat engine bay packaging I guess!
Thanks for the videos. I enjoy you showing parts of the whole process. The struggles, decisions, and just general problems you are presented with. Thanks for the content. Hope you have a good weekend.
Thanks i appreciate it! The mower caught me off guard. They never cut the grass and one of the guys at one is the other units was cutting it. Guessing he just got tired of it. The dirt bikes and 4 wheelers are unbearable though!
in future videos would you mid showing us the duty cycle table as you adjust it. Probably still one of the most confusing part to use on a holley if learning it on your own.
I try to show a little bit of different stuff in each one. In this video i was using software i wasn’t allowed to show anybody so i couldn’t record the screen in the tuning side of things
I don’t like non intercooled set ups unless it’s on methanol. Kept an eye on everything, started low, kept it fat, kept boost as low as i could. This one is getting an intercooler and some other upgrades soon
a 100 shot would probably net 250hp. methanol would probably add 150 hp. lots of options here, and for what seems to be a car that mostly races on a drag strip its safe enough
Depends on what you want. If you normally run it with water at ambient temp and want to tune for that, don't run ice. Want max power figures for Facebook? Ice or ice with glycol
Ethanol just isn’t methanol is the real answer there. I’d love to do some before and after wirh and with out an intercooler. I will it an opportunity presents it’s self

Usually videos longer than 20 minutes dont perform well. It’s almost hard to keep them under 20 most of the time
Love the longer vids. Appreciate all the work

240f IAT ! That wild ! What power gains would you expect to see if he added an intercooler on the exact same setup ?
Non intercooler sucking in hot air behind the radiator 🤘

Blue tip Accel injectors?

He’s gonna do an intercooler, Co2, and a few other things
that capitals shirt is gangsta
Engine setup Joe 5.3l or 5.7l
Good pull good numbers but maybe we can get 1250 out of er.
How violent is that downpipe? I have heard that a turbo quieted its down a lot. would you street drive a straight-out downpipe like that?
The autozone took the keys
When you are dynoing a car with air to water, do keep putting ice in it or just run a water hose through the intercooler
Depends on what you want. If you normally run it with water at ambient temp and want to tune for that, don't run ice. Want max power figures for Facebook? Ice or ice with glycol

Not a problem with methanol

Ok good hahaha
Isn't the turbo going to be sucking air thru the radiator
Yup. Not ideal but 90% or cars do it
How are you logging things like tps thru the dyno? Wiring analog inputs for everything?
CAN. So bascially same way the ecu communicates with a Holley dash. Badass feature with the mainline dyno
