@@jfnurod Abbey Bike Tool DUB BSA BB tool is the best. It has tight fit and doesn’t scratch up your BB like how shitty Park Tool does. The one Geoff used is red colored cuz it’s an Abbey x SRAM collaboration design. The actual Abbey version is Irish green.
Glad I found this video as my cranks on my new bike came lose. The little 2mm pinch bolt hadn't been tightened up and I wasn't sure how much to tighten the bearing preload nut.
SRAM: TAKE NOTE! There is only 1 thing to learn from this video: SRAM's Dub BB manual *is garbage* and needs a complete rewrite! First off: your spacer chart lists "MTB, Wide, & Superboost" as 3 configurations for 73mm BSA shells, but I had to spend 5mins googling to confirm that the option corresponding to the Boost cranks most users will be running is not the middle "Wide" option, but rather the first "MTB" option (anyone who has been in MTB longer than a couple years would intuitively assume that MTB = previous 142mm standard, while Wide = newer, wider 148mm Boost standard). And then there is the Chain Guide section of your chart that has even your own Factory Tech installing this crank *wrong*! Running an ISCG chainguard that bolts to the frame has NOTHING to do with chainline, but your tech didn't think this through, and thus had to re-configure spacers twice! If I have to hazard a guess, the "Chain Guide" section of your spacer chart is intended for those running plate-style guides that get clamped between the frame and the Bottom Bracket. If that is the case, SAY SO EXPLICITLY in your manual. Your CHOICE to make your Dub BB Manual (and most other SRAM manuals) *needlessly, and cartoonishly vague* has cost even this professionally-trained mechanic with 35+ years wrenching experience a half hour of additional research to be 100% certain I get my crank spacing right and don't torque your chainring right into the paint on my brand new chainstay! I have installed hundreds of Shimano and Race Face bottom brackets over the years that required *zero* spacers to install correctly. Your technical writers and engineers both dropped the ball with this BB configuration and its documentation!
I just got the DUB 73mm BB and Truativ Crankset. I am building 2019 Reckoning. What spacers did you end up using? My BB came with the 2 already on it for each side and then 3 various sizes separately in the box.
6:48 - OK so there are bottom bracket spacers and there are spindle spacers. Which spacers to fit and how many depends on your bike. Confusing - if mine is a custom frame, how the heck would I know? Do all of them come together with the crank, or are they just more loose bits I have to find, buy and have shipped over?
I know your comment is from a year ago but both of my cranks (Truvative carbon Descendant DUB and SRAM GX DUB) did not come with any spacers in the box, and the website blows plus once you find the PDF its not exactly clear either what you need or where to get them.... looks like it will be trial an error then try and order correct spinal spacers and BB spacers for the install
bottom line is to make the Dub's chainline as close as possible to the chainline of the crankset you're taking off (and generally having a slightly shorter chainline is better than a slighly longer one): Chainline is measured from mid downtube to the chainring on a 1x; between the two chainrings on a 2x; and to the middle chainring on a 3x. Alternately you can measure the width of your rear hub (the axle) and determine which type of freehub body you're running, then look up the acceptable chainline dimensions.

I’m doing this install on my SC Hightower and want to confirm what spacers you ended up using if you remember that far back? The pdf chart from sram says to use a 2mm outer right spacer for 73mm hub with chain guide which is what i have. Is this what you ended up using with your setup?
So even though I was told to be careful I rounded the screw for the preload adjuster. It's a common problem but I was able to find a replacement from cane creek. Says it works with dub and comes in multiple fun colors. Hope it works because it looks more solid and the screw on the sram is hot garbage. I think it's the only weakness of this setup.
I found out that there are two variants of preload adjuster. Yours tighten if rotated clockwise. There is another variant which tightens if rotated counter-clockwise like on my 2015 Stumpjumper FSR Comp. Anyhow, just follow the direction of the + arrow and you are always good to go.

Question. I have a 2021 Scott voltage yz 0.1. Just bought but didn’t install yet. Upgraded sram DUB press fit BB92, and a truvative descendant crankset (DUB). There are spacers in the bb package. My rear end is 135mm. How can I assure my chain line is correct prior to installation? Please help. Would love to hear what you have. Thanks a lot...beard brothers
So, which tool did you use? I just bought the ParkTool BBT-69.2 as I googled the Sram DUB bb and after a long wait, it dosent fit! I also have:BBT-47,BBT-35,BBT-49.2, PraxisworksM30 and do not fit.
Does you bb creak like crazy After about 10 months it started creaking I tightened the preload thing gently it creaks so I progressively made that plastic adjuster tighter and tighter never stops creaking My brother got a new santa cruz and after like 3 months it's already creaking same thing but when we went to tighten his it looked like the mechanic that assembly his did not bother because it was loosened all the way to the crank arm

I have a 2018 Canyon Spectral 6.0 AL frame and the BB says GXP and I measured the width to be 92, if I buy XX-1 do I need to buy dub or GXP groupset? my bike is BOOST
I pulled the crank set apart on my 2019 YT Capra to swap out chain ring to Absolute Black Oval and everything was fine after reassembly. There were zero spacer washer used and just that plastic ring to take on and off. Couple weeks later and a lot of riding I am hearing some creaking. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
I'm not against DUB especially if it stays for a LONG time, but that spacer situation looks confusing AS HELL! It would've been nice if You'd show chainline being straight at one of the center sprockets, otherwise it's hard to believe that Jeff knew what he was doing and didn't eyeball the bb, so it just works with chainguide....but not with the chainline.
For BOOST spacing on a BSA73 DUB, what outboard spacer do I use? SRAM instructions say MTB uses 4.5mm and MTB wide uses 7.5mm. I am not sure of BOOST is considered MTB or MTB wide. Thanks PS I don’t use bash guard.
i put just the 4.5mm one on the righ side, that mtb wide not sure what the hell it is. But i saw a lot of youtube videos of installation with my bike set up and they all use just the 4.5mm for a 73 frame. I don't use a chain guide and im pretty sure that wouldn't affect the configuration if you use one like the one shows in this video (so the guys are wrong in this video), with a different type of guide like the ones that goes between the bb and the frame you have to reduce the 4.5 mm spacer because the chain guide will work like a spacer and move everything to the right.

Can you use a sram dub with non boost in the front (crankset) or do they go together DUB-Boost? Also, if I go non boost in the front, I was told I need to go with boost in the the rear cassette, is this correct?
Hey mate, just got a Truvative Descendant DUB boost crank and I would like some info about the spacers. In the beggining he said no bb spacers and 4,5mm outer one, then he said 2,5mm bb spacer and 2mm outer one, then in the end of the video again said the no bb - 4,5mm outer combo. So what finally worked for you? Because I am in a similar situation. I have a Specialized Enduro Como 2018 with threaded bb and have an MRP ISCG-05 AMg V2 guide. Thank you in advance.
Just the 4.5mm spindle spacer on the drive side...and no BB spacers (the way they did it first and at the end) if you have a 73mm shell. My guess is that the spacer comes into play if your guide is attached to the BB. Since that type of guide would act as a spacer, you minimize the outer spacer by 2.5mm. Your guide is attached to the 3 ISCG mounts...so this isn't an issue. So basically you'll set it up as if you were not running a guide....then fiddle with little spacers on the ISCG bolts to line your guide up with the chainring...which is always fun.
So if I want to change my chainring from 30 to 32, is it just the one bolt on the chainring side that is removed or do you have to disassemble the non-drive side also? Thanks
I would think so but always ask your local bike shop to make sure. There are just to many makes and models out there for me to be 100% correct and I would hate to have your get the wrong product. Any reason you're looking to change over your 2019 to this?
Looking at the Sram giude, he did the spacers wrong. Anybody agree with me? Or am I wrong? The guide state 3mm at left outer spacer, a chain guide then 5mm at right outer spacer. Anybody? Btw, I have the same bike and year. Nomad.
6:27 that sucks, that's what you get with so short rear end and rear triangle design like this, 6:42 I recommend upgrading to Cane Creek Preload collar, it's alloy with titanium bolt. , unless you are satisfied with it, I haven't tried the Sram preload collar, but the Race face colalr was awful, www.worldwidecyclery.com/products/cane-creek-alloy-preload-collar-with-ti-bolt-for-30mm-spindles if it is compatible I haven't checked if it's compatible with this crankset but it is with the previous Sram cranks. 7:00 nice finally there is no need for extension bar and ratchet to install the rings. on my race Face cranks the nylon preloader was awful this one is clearly better, but so sure if it will spin as smoothly as the alloy collar from Cane Creek, I find that it's not so smooth and nto as accurate feel to it, with the alloy collar it was smooth and I knew for sure when it was tight.
Did you have creaking issues with the nylon spacer I cant get 2 of my santa cruz chameleon sram dub bb to stop creaking purchased new I looked at buying that cane creak preload adjuster
@@Nanchi there are many causes of creaks for this area of the bike/these parts. crank might be loose on the axle the tolerances on the axle might be horrible, causing play in between axle and bearings, thus creaking. bearing misalignment, due to bad tolerances and machining of the bottom bracket shell. bad bearings, horrible tolerances in the bearings. the preload ring might have loosened up causing side to side play, and dirt coming between crank arm and BB, causing crunchy sounds . I don't know which nylon spacer your refer to, so I mentioned two of the possible contenders: I don't have a nylon spacer on my bottom bracket, cus I have Chris King Thread Fit 30, it came with alloy spacer, but you can buy alloy spacer to suit you BB, if using chain guide mounted to BB or iscg 05 adapter then you replace adapter or mount chain guide directly there instead of spacer. Chris king BB also comes with thin nylon spacers to get the tolerances to be just right. I think I use 2 for these thin spacers on my Geometron G1
I really have not had many miles on either set but I'm going to refer back to Geoff's comment about these not being an upgrade from the existing SRAM cranks. What I mean is, going to my existing GX cranks to these DUB cranks should not feel much difference. Unless you are in the market for a new set of cranks I wouldn't recommend buying these just to upgrade. The main goal of these cranks is to help take some of the confusion out of buying cranks.
Why did you go to the dub bottom bracket and cranks? Curious the weight difference. Read a little about the dub and they claim less contamination in the bearing and increased durability. Smaller bearing and bigger spindle from the dub design. A lot of the techs I’ve asked think the gxp having bigger bearings is ideal
Dear SRAM - your chart is USELESS. The titles cant be more generic. What is "MTB"? what is "MTB Wide"? Specify NUMBERS or at least define what those terms mean. Is it 135 Vs. 148? Or maybe 148 Vs. A perfect chainline to the middle cog is overrated. I rather the chainline be biased towards the easy gears because where I ride has steep climbs. It's just a tad less stress on the chain and a quieter drive train.

I had to contact SRAM for the same reasons. MTB Wide isn’t Boost. MTB in this case refers to Non-Boost and Boost.

@Kleiner Helfer creaking was coming from a loose bearing on the frame's dog bone. Simple fix with tightening it up.

Yes Both front and rear must be boost. Or else, your gear shifting will be messed up.

Whole cranks needs to come off. Then you unscrew 3 small bolts holding the chain ring.

Looking at the Sram giude, he did the spacers wrong. Anybody agree with me? Or am I wrong? The guide state 3mm at left outer spacer, a chain guide then 5mm at right outer spacer. Anybody? Btw, I have the same bike and year. Nomad.
6:27 that sucks, that's what you get with so short rear end and rear triangle design like this, 6:42 I recommend upgrading to Cane Creek Preload collar, it's alloy with titanium bolt. , unless you are satisfied with it, I haven't tried the Sram preload collar, but the Race face colalr was awful,

if it is compatible I haven't checked if it's compatible with this crankset but it is with the previous Sram cranks.

on my race Face cranks the nylon preloader was awful this one is clearly better, but so sure if it will spin as smoothly as the alloy collar from Cane Creek, I find that it's not so smooth and nto as accurate feel to it, with the alloy collar it was smooth and I knew for sure when it was tight.

@@Nanchi there are many causes of creaks for this area of the bike/these parts.
crank might be loose on the axle
the tolerances on the axle might be horrible, causing play in between axle and bearings, thus creaking.
bearing misalignment, due to bad tolerances and machining of the bottom bracket shell.
bad bearings, horrible tolerances in the bearings.
the preload ring might have loosened up causing side to side play, and dirt coming between crank arm and BB, causing crunchy sounds .
I don't know which nylon spacer your refer to, so I mentioned two of the possible contenders:
I don't have a nylon spacer on my bottom bracket, cus I have Chris King Thread Fit 30, it came with alloy spacer, but you can buy alloy spacer to suit you BB, if using chain guide mounted to BB or iscg 05 adapter then you replace adapter or mount chain guide directly there instead of spacer.
Chris king BB also comes with thin nylon spacers to get the tolerances to be just right.
I think I use 2 for these thin spacers on my Geometron G1

I really have not had many miles on either set but I'm going to refer back to Geoff's comment about these not being an upgrade from the existing SRAM cranks. What I mean is, going to my existing GX cranks to these DUB cranks should not feel much difference. Unless you are in the market for a new set of cranks I wouldn't recommend buying these just to upgrade. The main goal of these cranks is to help take some of the confusion out of buying cranks.
Why did you go to the dub bottom bracket and cranks?
Curious the weight difference. Read a little about the dub and they claim less contamination in the bearing and increased durability. Smaller bearing and bigger spindle from the dub design. A lot of the techs I’ve asked think the gxp having bigger bearings is ideal
Why not to go with 30mm crank instead ?
Larger spindle = smaller bearings. Smaller bearings = higher rotational velocity. Higher RV = higher heat. Higher heat = shorter lifespan. Shorter lifespan = higher TCO. ( I think ).

Just how important is the adjuster? I accidentally over torque my pinch screw and it cracks the palstic..😭 poor me...

I tried to glue the adjuster but still it cracks when i screw it. Maybe i will just remove it.. and try the difference.

Dear SRAM - your chart is USELESS. The titles cant be more generic. What is "MTB"? what is "MTB Wide"? Specify NUMBERS or at least define what those terms mean.
Is it 135 Vs. 148? Or maybe 148 Vs. AXS Wide? Do you really think the title "MTB" is self explanatory?! Especially on a product that's designed to reduce confusion and installation headaches?

I'm not against DUB especially if it stays for a LONG time, but that spacer situation looks confusing AS HELL! It would've been nice if You'd show chainline being straight at one of the center sprockets, otherwise it's hard to believe that Jeff knew what he was doing and didn't eyeball the bb, so it just works with chainguide....but not with the chainline.
A perfect chainline to the middle cog is overrated. I rather the chainline be biased towards the easy gears because where I ride has steep climbs. It's just a tad less stress on the chain and a quieter drive train.
