    Looks like you could use a studded rear tire. There is also an old trick bikers use - wrap paracord around the wheel and tire in a spiral progression. Wrap a second coil in the opposite direction. You will end up with a decent traction. It takes time but paracord is cheap. I think a cotton or polyester based based low stretch cord would grab better than the nylon cord with a thin core and woven sheath.

    Your bike is a lovely color. She sure stands out in the snow.
    If I may trouble you with questions, for I do have many. As time goes by please post what answers you come up with.
    Do you have any plans for floor mats. I found some place mat size ones for two bucks each and got a stack. I was warned that they would melt into a sticky mess when I go down to see family in the Texas heat and even further south down to the keys.
    What type and size jack would you get for that rainy day flat. Flats happen in the worst of weather.
    I am a retired lady and not up to bench pressing my bike onto some rock at the side of the road.
    I was wondering what other owners have come up with that is light enough to carry all the time.
    Do you mess with wearing a helmet at all? I saw you wipe the fog off the side windows. Up here mine was frost and needed scraped off but I was home by then.
    It was my first ride and I only turned the heater on long enough to see that it worked. Let everyone know if having the heater on stops the fogging up.
    I may need a small dash fan to move the heat around.
    You spoke to the police right off. Was that a move to find out where to park and not get a ticket?
    I just got my bike but weather has kept me off it. At -24 I was not allowed out of the house what with the wind chill, heavy snow, ice storm and then the little blizzard.
    I said I got just what I wanted and hell froze over.
    Thank you for your time. I am sure many others have these same questions.

    • @jdrum3053
      @jdrum3053  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Marian Chadwick The jack they recommended was this one.
      www.menards.com/main/tools-hardware/automotive/automotive-tools-shop-equipment/torin-reg-big-red-1-5-ton-scissor-jack/t10152/p-1444445157282-c-9113.htm?searchTermToProduct=2613124
      The fan would be fine too. I may get one and try it. For now I just wipe off the fog with a rag or treat with rainx.
      I took my bike down to the police station to show them what it was and how everything worked. That I wouldn’t get a ticket for driving a “motor vehicle” without a license.

    • @marianchadwick7489
      @marianchadwick7489 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for showing the jack and where to get one. I hope to never use mine.
      Rode to the nearest town of any size. A 22 mile run one way with the heater and head lights on all the way.
      I chose to use the motor assist all the way just to know I would have enough power to make it to town.
      My husband rode the bike home and had just enough juice to return. He turned the lights on at dusk and chose to peddle the whole way along with the motor on.
      We are quite pleased with our little test run of 44 miles. She does well in our winter weather. The roads were plowed so there were no drifts but we rode through patches of ice, packed snow and slush. I slowed down for the slush but he had the cruse control on all the way.
      Thanks again.

      Douglas MacCullagh I am in Iowa, I would recommend an ELF they are built for your climate. There’s things with the rubber gaskets around the windows and the heel well I would be concerned about melting in the heat. The ELF is mainly metal though not sure of the body.

    I did not see or hear a fan to reduce window fogging. I think you have a USB outlet, there are decent high efficiency 6 inch USB fans at Amazon for a reasonable price. They come in many colors but choose the one with plastic blades, just as good but no ringing noise from the plastic. You can remove the front fan cage to reduce weight.

I was spinning on my recumbent trike when going uphill on dirt roads and when loaded stressing my only electric wheel on pavement . For heavy velomobiles you need two electric wheels .

      Wow, that’s far, i actually sold my bike and moved from the subs to the city, getting around now is sooo much easier sense I can’t drive, sometimes I wish some of the bus schedules where closer together. I have a new AddMotir trike I do my errands on and the rest of the time I ride the bus or use paratransit to get around the city. My suburb has become too vast with construction and way too many people (bad drivers esp), Even tho the suburb land mass is bigger and more people bussing is limited. So on days I can’t ride my PEBL ( lots of snow, extremely low temps) it was becoming harder to get places. So I decided to move and have thought about it for a very long time. Thanks again for the comment and support! Check out the new ride. I’ll get some riding content up before it gets coooiold!

    • @popeyegordon
      @popeyegordon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jdrum3053 I do understand what you are describing - the snow produces a lot of diffused light even when it looks overcast. I tinted my side and rear windows with premium cling tint from Gila. It is still good after 2 years and is easily removable. The greatest feature was unexpected - in front I ran the tint right down to the level where my eyes normally look through the windshield. This cuts daytime sun well and at night it can block the blinding glare of oncoming cars by simply raising my head up one inch. Your black bike will be hot as hell in summer so the tinting could really help and pimp your ride quite a bit. Note that cling tint is easier to work with than permanent tint with glue but you may need some practice if you have not used it before.

    • @jdrum3053
      @jdrum3053  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Popeye Gordon We carrie Gila products at the store were I work so I’ll check it out when I have time, I also usually ride when it’s 10 or warmer, and colder then that noooope. @@jdrum3053 I ordered the extra duty Gila cling and glad I did. It is thicker and has been on the OUTSIDE of my rear window for a long time with no deterioration or coming lose. It is almost impossible to get it to go on correctly on the underside of a window, gravity fights you all the way. Even in your case where you have the hatch, applying it on the outside will keep the rear window from scratching. The best time to apply it is when the surface is new, then it will stay new. For my side windows I did apply it to the inside. I have 2 side windows, vs. your four. You only have to make one pattern for each window set as they are mirror images of each other.

    Beats a one horse open sleigh! I have a 750 watt bafang mountain ebike which I absolutely love. I really want a PEBL with a back seat but in white. When recharging the batteries, do you need to have them above 32 degrees Fahrenheit? Do you have to bring your batteries indoors when it's cold outside for recharging purposes or do you have a heated garage, or isn't that really an issue? I have read it's not good for the battery to recharge in sub freezing temps.

      Not at this time. If you check, anyonecanbike website there have been listings there. Also join the PEBL owners and interest group on Facebook. I have been thinking about selling mine sense we have an on demand bus service now and that is easier to get around then my bike, it is still awesome to have snd a very hard decision to make. If you join the group you will see some listings there when sales popup, also email betterbike and they will let you know of some they have for sale too.

      @@jdrum3053 Hello I so wouldn't sell your pebble at all. Since it could still be good for working out! While being protected from the weather. Also I'm interested in getting a pebble someday. But mine will use a custom battery that's 72 walts for least 4 if possible to power a walt heater better! It'll have a 400 mile range though on it though! Making one of the most powerful pebbles that they have made!! Also I don't even like the stock batteries that, come with the pebble so I would be interested using a different one!

    The new fiberglass body version has a 230 pound curb weight according the the site's spec page, meaning more traction possible but of course less fun to pedal. This has 70 pounds on my ELF, I'd rather have no floor, no wood dashboard and good ventilation here in Florida.

      @@TheGreatOldOak Yea they violated the unwritten rule about the maximum practical weight of a pedal assist velomobile. The list of car-like features that are dead weight but attractive to nimrods not knowing any better has resulted in some sales but better.bike gave up and outsourced to Germany. The first redesigned version should ship this year. Nobody ever achieved a long distance journey in the PEBL but three ELF owners completed journeys of between 3000 and 43,000 miles.

      @@popeyegordonYa man , long distance is my objective with my electric trike ( 2 electric 1 pedal ) . I'm towing a 10 foot by 3 trailer . I have 210 watts PV panels on the trike and will be adding about 300 watts on the trailer which is still under construction . I can go uphill with a heavy load on the trailer . I used the delta configuration for the trike so my left rear is pedal with right wheel electric along with electric front . Top speed on the level is fast walking , running speed downhill with turtle pace uphill . My pedal ( one speed Surley ) cadence is about the same as the motors , so that on the level I can charge the AGM batteries by increasing my cadence During sunny peroids the PV's supply the power to the two 250w motors and going downhill the two regerative motors slow me down while saving my brake pads ( dics brakes on all 3 ) . The trailer has a GTG toilet and I'm purchasing an Alps propane inv/gen which will be mounted on the trike , along with the propane tank . I'm planning yearly trips south from Canada and do summer trips while in Canada
