    Backstory time- we filmed this after literally skating for 9 hours straight because we were so excited to skate together again, so the fact that we could jump at all is impressive 😂

    Your jumps are pretty impressive for not even a year. Especially the Lutz, looks like a true Lutz to me. Keep it up!

    I'm 53 and learning all these moves too, ya gotta love it!
    Check out coach Julia's TH-cam channel, she's great a teaching for older skaters, she breaks down each skill into doable steps
    Keep on girl!

      Coach Julia does not skate well, why would you want a teacher who doesn't skate well? I don't know why everyone keeps recommending her. Her vids are great for info about skates, but actual skating techniques? No

    Some nice spins there. Try to point your toe and turn out your foot a little on the camel spin. Turn your foot out on the sit spin and you'll be able to get lower. As with all skating spins and jumps, practice, practice, practice - but you're doing well. Keep it up, well done 😊

    How on earth did you progress so fast?! Especially in both - spins and jumps! With waltz jump, salchow and toe loop I had no problem, but flip lutz and loop are so weird..I can't jump off the right foot, even I jump pretty high on the other jumps 😅 and how do find your centre on spins? I already travel before bringing my leg in and backspins.. I have no chance 🙈

    ALWAYS remember ( and i know you are in skates).....but POINT your toes NO MATTER WHAT!!! spins, jumps, anything!!! arch your back etc....camel could be much better with just the arch and a pointed toe!!! you got this!!!! i see a lot of potential here!!!!

    When you do your sit spin, try to turn your free leg out a little more, it will help you get down further 😊.

    Hello ! I want to start ice skating and wanted/still want to try taking lessons but i'm too scared since a bad experience about something else, so i want to try to learn by myself and i'm sure i could do it, i'm not that good but i already learned how to do things by myself in roller skates (i know this isn't the same thing, there was a period when i wanted to learn to roller skate so bad but don't have a perfect place to try, cars makes me anxious lol..!), and how to stop on ice skates but really i'm just a beginner and i was wondering, how do you know how to place your arms? like, which one should be in front of you, which one goes the opposite way i'm not sure i understand :(! And also i watched all your videos where you learn to ice skate from the beginning to this one and just, wow, you're so talented and i wish i could learn as fast as you, even thought we all learn differently and not at the same rythm and that's fine. But your skills on ice skating, just wow and this is SO beautiful💫

      @@marshallspins hi, I'm looking to buy new Jackson skates to finish my single jumps up to axel. Were you able to achieve that with the Freestyle or would the next level (debut Fusion) be better? How many hours were you able to get out of the freestyles before they broke down?
      I'm also curious to know how the elite skates are working for you. It seems like a very high stiffness in comparison to the freestyles.
      You're really good and have progressed so much in just a few months!

    • @marshallspins
      @marshallspins  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! I think freestyles are a great option for getting through your singles! I skated in them for about 8 months, 7ish hours a week on average. I also dont think theyre fully broken down yet, I just was ready to move on to doubles and felt they werent supportive enough for me, partially because of the break down that they had, but also becuase theyre only really meant for singles. My friend whos about the same level as me just got premiers and said they've been breaking down really fast, so that also factored into my choice. I think choosing between freestyles or debuts comes down to how fast you've been progressing. I chose to skip up to elites because I feel I've been progressing quite fast and plan to keep up the pace and didn't want to level out of another pair of skates a year from now. So I went with something that would last me a much longer time. I also tend to jump high and agressively, so a stronger boot it more important. If you think finishing your singles will take you another 8+ months freestyles might be the right choice. If you're almost done with singles and are expecting to do doubles in the next year, maybe consider skipping to the debuts.
      I've actually only been able to skate for like, 5 hours in my new skates because I was busy w finishing college, then I sprained my ankle, and now my rinks closed for summer lol. So I don't really have a strong opinion on them yet. They are definitely VERY stiff lol, and hurt to break in. But unhooking the top hook has been working quite well, and the only thing the boot has really been affecting has been my sit spins, since I can't bend my knees in them much yet. The bigger change was my new blade, bc I changed rocker sizes and switched to a different type of toe pick. For some reason I didn't think that would matter, but oh boy does it change how I skate 😅. Anyways, that was a lot of info but I hope some of it helps!!

    Hello. Before you started figure skating, what was your skill level and how long did it take you to do simple jumps?

    • @marshallspins
      @marshallspins  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi!! My month 1 progress video shows what my skating looked like in my first lesson! I basically could go forward pretty confidently, could kinda do forwards crossovers? And could kinda barely go backwards. These are all things that I had learned from rollerblading as a kid =) I started my waltz jump at the end of month 1, and started toe, sal, and I think half flip maybe? In month 2. I kinda leapt right into learning jumps maybe before I should have bc I was really excited about them hahah

    How did you progress so fast? It is super impressive! I originally quit due to finances, but now live 3 hours from any rink due to college. Do you have any tips on what rollerskates the best train for off-ice? I know you mentioned in other videos you roller-skated

    • @marshallspins
      @marshallspins  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! For the first question, recording myself has helped SO MUCH with improving. It allows me to basically be my own coach. I'll watch my video back then compare that skill to what I see skaters I look up to doing and try to copy them more closely. It takes some practice to develop that analytical eye but it is such a valuable skill! I don't really do off ice skating, I just knew how to Rollerblade as a kid. But I recently got jackson mirage frames and put them on my old jackson freestyle boot and I like them! I haven't gotten to use them much yet bc I don't have good smooth surface options near me, but I will say that they definitely feel a bit different than on ice. Spins in particular I haven't figured out besides a basic 2 foot. I wonder if off-ice inline brand skates are more similar to on ice but I've heard bad things about the quality and longevity of them which is why I didn't buy them.

    did you have a coach, or is this all self taught ??

    • @marshallspins
      @marshallspins  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely not all self taught! But maybe like 2/3rds self taught haha. I took group lessons on and off for the first 3ish months and took a few private lessons later on to start axel work, but yeah a lot of stuff I learned on my own 😅
