If the kind of people like Duka think the kind of bands mentioned are even comparable to the kind of bands like the one in this video then music as we know it really has lost all hope.
this song was a big hit for Rod Stewart---mainly cos Rod looked very sexy in those days.Ronnie James Dio is immortal--he resides in the hearts of all music lovers,WE LOVE RONNIE ALWAYS!
@Gooseage To add, the only comment of mine I see is the one in the "highest rated comments" area that was posted 9 months ago, thus that's what I figured you were responding to. Ill also say this again. The only reason Joey has guest played with the bands he has, is due to his popularity. And take note how each band he's guest drummed for has rather simplistic drumming. This is why you'll never see him drum for a worth while band like Meshuggah or Benighted. He'll remain a gimmick, nothing more
@Bieroern The elves (elf) used to play in my hometown of Hazleton PA...under the roller rink. Your teacher was an idiot...but we have a saying here... "those that can't do...teach"...RIP DIO...great singer
@jpocalips1 Very well said. The music of today I think does not compare to what I grew up with. I came about in the early 80's when Dio was becoming a big star after he left Sabbath. HOLY DIVER was one of the 1st albums I ever bought and I listen to it religously. Butterfly Ball was a little before my time but, I love anything Dio has ever done. I would have been about 3 years old when this came out. Who knows, I might have seen this as a child. I can't remember. I love Ronnie's work.
@Gooseage It was a very safe assumption as you never once eluded to anything otherwise. That, along with the examples of other artists he's preformed with, kind of makes it hard to NOT think you're talking about stage presence. No shit people can like what they like. That was never in question. But that doesn't change the fact that some people like undeniable shit. Kids enjoy ICP and Justin Beiber, neat for them, but just because they enjoy them doesn't mean they aren't talentless tripe.
ELF was definitely not he "start" of DIO in music... maybe his career in rock. but he was in some doowop bands in the early sixties. think you can find some tracks on youtube. regardless DIO is GOD in all his musical forms. R.I.P
@Gooseage ...People can enjoy whatever they want to enjoy. But acknowledge talent where talent resides. You can be the biggest Beiber fan ever, but don't try to justify him as the a legitimate singer. You can be the biggest Nickleback fan ever, but don't try to justify them as great rock heroes. You can be the biggest Jordison fan ever, but don't try to justify him as some extraordinarily brilliant drummer How this simply concept escapes you is amazing. But I'm sure you'll beat your chest again
@Metalwurst666 I don't "lose" solely because you say I do. That's not how an argument, debate, nor the internet work. There are, in fact, genres of music that don't have a single redeeming factor in them. Especially if you know music. Nu-Metal being one of them.
@NightmareSnake It is fully logical. For example. If you woke up every morning to a burly man clapping both your ears as hard as he could, but got paid $500 afterwords, would you continue to do it, even though it will most likely cause deafness? Chances are no. Why? Because of the pain, and the sheer stupidity of it all.
@blavaburnulots That's the thing, there was no misinterpretation. It was an obvious and blunt comment, with an obvious and blunt meaning. You, friend, are very stilled in backpedaling.
@Cessate Man, you really have a way with words and I'm not being sarcastic either. Great work man. I always love to see some well written responses that justify the person's opinion. Was English your major in College or University?
@blavaburnulots I never said they weren't allowed an opinion. But there IS such thing as talent and lack there of. Music deserves talent. Not bullshit nu-metal dribble. Just sayin'.
"I'm standing in the shadows now, You think I'm dead and gone somehow, But when the morning comes you'll see my face, oh you know, I'm coming back for you." Still waiting Dio.
@Rampant7990 Neil Peart is amazing, of course. as are Keith Moon, Jon Bonham, Bill Ward, and Ian Paice. But we're talking about Nu-Metal, and None of those drummers are in Nu-Metal bands. Please, before you interrupt, make sure you're aware of what's going on in the conversation.
@Gooseage You are aware that =/= means DOES NOT EQUAL, right? I also believe I already justified why I said that, because your comment wasn't clear nor did you specify you were talking about something else. Your wording made it sound as if he could get away with being a mediocre drummer because he looks good on stage. Try re-reading things through before jumping the gun.
@blavaburnulots No, I hang onto it due to the reason listed prior. Now who's conjuring assumptions/misinterpreting? And no I do not like Dream Theater. I give them credit for their skill, but I think they're a brutally over-hyped band.
After reading on I find that maybe I was judging some of todays music unfairly, I was wrong in saying they were all lame, their are in fact some incredible musicians out their, but I do feel many are only going through the motions, being a studio musician for over 25yrs. I find many of the up and coming players, tend to over riff, I find that many times a few notes in a solo played from the heart and with feeling can have a much larger impact on the listening audience, past reflects future.
@Gooseage But when someone says something as silly as "ICP are good rappers", or "Justin Beiber is a good singer and song writer" (note that I'm using these as examples since I think even you can agree these acts are terrible), THEN I have issue with it. Fans can enjoy them all they like, but don't be so blinded by your own idiocy to claim they hold any legitimate talent, because they don't. This rule applies to Nu-Metal as well. Like what you like, but don't acknowledge mediocrity as talent.
@NightmareSnake Nickelback (and like bands), as well as their fans, are the same way. They listen to talentless drivel, with song structures similar to a child's nursery rhyme; with lyrics that could been written by a 6 year old little brother. I'm all for people listening to what they want to listen to. I have a diverse taste myself. But when you get 12 bands that sound similar in every single way (voice, lyrics, music etc), and people still flock to them as if they're great? There's an issue.
@miser42 This is assumption. Though it's true I don't like SoaD what so ever, it's not out of jealousy, dislike, or resentment that I make my comments. It's due tot he fact that as a band, they simply are not good lyrically, or musically.
@Gooseage @Gooseage Boy, you're royally mixing up your "facts". It's actually pretty hilarious. Let me reiterate it for you myself. -The way you worded your comment made it sound as if you were claiming that Joey doesn't need talent as long as he looks good on stage. -Stage presence and skill DON'T go hand in hand. I never said otherwise. One can easily have one without the other. -You are the one who claimed that I said Stage Presence requires talent. Go back a page and read it yourself.
@DylanNotBob YOU CANT BE SERIOUS-THIS IS REAL MUSIC-ROCK N ROLL @ ITS FINEST-RADIOHEAD ISNT WORTHY OF SMELLING THIS BANDS FARTS LET ALONE BEING MENTIONED IN THE SAME BREATH -THEY ARE LAME AND WILL NOT STAND THE TEST OF TIME LIKE THIS MUSIC WILL AND HAS-GIVE RADIOHEAD A LISTEN-PLEEZ
@blavaburnulots I suggest you re-read then. I stated how I wasn't "hanging onto" anything, and then proceeded to answer your Dream Theater question. You're simply looking for a scapegoat to justify yourself now.
@Gooseage Also, thanks for drudging up a 9 month year old comment. Because I didn't explain myself enough to the Nu-Metal loving dolts almost a year ago as is.
@miser42 Apparently you don't understand the difference between opinion, fact, and a statement. Define "rational posting", seems to me I've been pretty rational given the ridiculous claims at hand. Now, if I was to dig into the 14 year old in me, and start swearing up a storm, and calling everyone wrong solely because I say so, then there'd be an issue in which you could justify your claim of how irrational I apparently am.
@miser42 You generally need to have at least two people going back on forth with liable rebuttals to have an argument. That's not happening. What I did was make a statement, and what's happening is you telling me to give up on something I wasn't striving to do. Differentiate what an argument and a statement is before you try and barge in, making idiotic comments as such. It'll help you in the long run.
@ROFLmao35216 Unfortunetly, the radio stations in the US are too ignorant to place this version, so the version you most likely heard was Faces with Rod Stewart.
@NightmareSnake And once again I state, there's a difference between good music, and bad music. Frankly, I don't enjoy listening to bad music. It's the equivalent of nails on a chalk board. All you kids who claim "music is just music" are lying through your teeth. Music affects moods, thought process, and the general energy in the room; and frankly I (and many others around the world) don't enjoy having my ears tortured with talentless drivel.
@NightmareSnake :o) As much as I respect your opinion, I have to say I'm laughing at you comparing the drummers you mentioned to say: Neil Peart. I've been involved in music for about 40 years now, and played before that. Have several friends in the biz , itself, and your rants defending the talent of your idol drummers are admirable, but obviously one of a young biased person , yet to learn a bit more about music, and definitely a bit about arguing over things you have not experienced yet.
@Rampant7990 Zeppelin and Rush would have been my very first references if we were talking about drummers in general. But we weren't. We were talking about Nu-Metal musicians, and drummers just HAPPENED to come up. Ergo, Linkin Park, Korn, and Slipknot were what I mentioned. And that's also the type of music I play, and that experience is what justifies my views. Also, I wasn't attempting to "school", anyone, but seeing how much that comment bothered you, it looks like I did.
@Cessate And your does not equal statement... Yeah I know what it means, do you? Because your statement really does support my argument. Let me recount it in words you can understand: You said my mentioning him playing live with other bands, that I meant stage presence not talent, and that he can't play. But if he has stage presence and can't play, that must mean that stage presence and ability to play do not go hand in hand.
@Cessate Then you say you never said stage presence was unrelated to ability. I show you where you said it, and you say "You are aware that =/= means DOES NOT EQUAL, right?" Yeah, real logical. real smart
@Gooseage You're so caught up trying to prove my argument wrong that you're getting confused as hell in the process. Not only do you blatantly put words in my mouth, assume the ridiculous, and make down right stupid accusations that have no place in this argument; but you completely misread or don't read the comments what so ever. I didn't blatantly say I take issue with people having different opinions than me at all. Again, a fallacy you created. What I said was.....
dios the best check out his christmas music he's on a compilation metal x mas cd called a very metal christmas. type it in here ans have a lsten . R.J.D .FOREVER!!!BETTER THAN ROD STEWART TOO!!!
@Cessate If you have to listen to it, then just listen to it. It's music. It's not going to bite you. And if you're going to "continue to be an ass", prepare to continue to be treated like one.
@Cessate I am stating my opinion on his ability based upon me seeing him and many others play live. You erroneously assumed I was talking about stage presence. Then I included a list of other artists he has collaborated with, to illustrate that others within the industry share my opinion. In the end, I don't really care what you think. Those who like him do, those who don't like him don't, and in matters of opinion, there is no debate. I don't even like nu-metal, but I can respect competence.
@NightmareSnake Wow! Schooled by a kid! Funny I thought you were talking about drummers. The musicians I have known, if I could count them include metal players, or "nu-metal" also, that you claim makes a difference, feel the same. We're not talking classical guitarist verses rock/metal guitarists here, we are talking drummers and talent. I know 1 producer in LA and 1 in NY who got quite the good belly laugh at your comment and we thank you. You'll grow, keep the rage for your music, kid. :o)
@Gooseage I put words in your mouth? Really? Can your prove this? Because I've yet to claim once that you've said anything you didn't. And threatened by Beiber? Where the hell do you get this garbage from? You're attempting to turn an example into some form of hidden ammunition to attack me with. Your logic makes no sense what so ever. I used Beiber as an example because his music is soulless and has no musical talent what so ever. It doesn't matter if he's 17 or 27, the verdict remains the same
@Gooseage Having good stage presence =/= talent. The facts of Joey being a mediocre drummer are in his playing. Any half-wit with even a tiny sense of music theory or ability can see and judge his skill. There's high-school bands out there with better technique. His rhythms and style are rehashed from band to band, and the only reason people get him to guest drum is due to his popularity with the musically demented. No shit Nu-Metal isn't unique. Where did that comment even come from?
@Gooseage Did I state ANYWHERE that stage presence required no actual playing? No, I did not. Put more words in my mouth why don't you? I said that your statement sounded as if you were solely talking about stage presence, how was that lost on you? This is where you're blinded by pathetic morals and some misguided sense of "opinions mean everything is good". Can people like something I deem as bad? Yes. Do I ultimately care if they like it? No.
@miser42 Credentials on how Nu-Metal is bad? Try the simplistic lack lust musicianship. The teenage angst-ridden lyrics that come across as if a 13 year old who just got his Xbox taken away wrote them. Or perhaps the extreme cop-out to mainstream media where they play their souless music for money as opposed to anything else? I never thought in my life I'd have to actually justify to anyone with a brain as to why Nu-Metal is a joke amongst the music community.
@Cessate Your comment was posted 2 months ago. Just giving this poor kid everyone's dumping on some help, cuz people like what people like, and just cuz you don't like it doesn't mean that everyone has to not like it. Joey Jordison has played drums for Ministry, Metallica, Satyricon, and Otep. He has remixed for Marilyn Manson and Puscifier, and produced for 3 Inches of Blood. So clearly, you're right, he has no talent, and people who actually make music recognize it. Check the facts, dolt
Ronnie could sing the phone book and would still sound amazing!
I prefer the original song from The Faces singing Rod Steward
'only if I believed in that particular set of numbers' - Ronnie James Dio, 1999.
Ronnie James Dio a small man with a larger than life voice
You were expecting Rod Stewart to be singing this song, but it was I, Dio!
Отличшнишний год отличная новость какой род рони и только
Ronnie is a god. This kicks ass. Thanks to the guy in the roadhouse at Nhill who turned me on to ELF, and to this cover of Rod and the Faces....
Un répertoire musical avec « ELF » que je ne soupçonnais pas, Fan de Ronnie depuis les années 83👍is GREAT💋
I've always loved this song when the Faces did it. I never heard Ronnie do it till now. I LOVE IT MORE!!!
This song is just perfect!
Ronnie James dio...on the vocals... in to my memory...I always love to you. thanks for you guives all by me.
leave it to dio make an amazing song amazing. RIP DIO
after 25-30 years I found ELF...glory be
Wow, I never heard this, and I've been a long time Dio fan. I even covered "Hoochie Koochie Lady" off his Elf album from many years ago.
If the kind of people like Duka think the kind of bands mentioned are even comparable to the kind of bands like the one in this video then music as we know it really has lost all hope.
1972 i love this!!!
this song was a big hit for Rod Stewart---mainly cos Rod looked very sexy in those days.Ronnie James Dio is immortal--he resides in the hearts of all music lovers,WE LOVE RONNIE ALWAYS!

RIP Ronnie, and Rock On forever more!!!
There need's to be a ELF tribute band but the singer would have to be real good! This is cool.
great!
tnx for uploading this.
70-'s ROCK
Alwayz luv thiz song!!! RIP DIO!!!
RIP Ronnie.
@Bieroern The elves (elf) used to play in my hometown of Hazleton PA...under the roller rink. Your teacher was an idiot...but we have a saying here... "those that can't do...teach"...RIP DIO...great singer

ELF was definitely not he "start" of DIO in music... maybe his career in rock. but he was in some doowop bands in the early sixties. think you can find some tracks on youtube. regardless DIO is GOD in all his musical forms. R.I.P
The Vegas Kings
Ronnie and the Rockets
Ronnie and the Red Caps
Ronnie Dio and the Prophets
And maybe others.
There are people who aren't into Dio, and then there are people who are not complete idiots
Lol
\m/ love this song \m/
@Gooseage ...People can enjoy whatever they want to enjoy. But acknowledge talent where talent resides. You can be the biggest Beiber fan ever, but don't try to justify him as the a legitimate singer.

GOOD FOR YOU! I RESPECT SUCH STUDENTS! YOU KNOW WHAT- THE POOR MARK IS FOR YOUR TEACHER!
@blavaburnulots What I find hilarious is that you consider A7X, Disturbed, and SoaD music.
@Metalwurst666 I don't "lose" solely because you say I do. That's not how an argument, debate, nor the internet work.
There are, in fact, genres of music that don't have a single redeeming factor in them. Especially if you know music. Nu-Metal being one of them.
Gosto bagarai!!!
@NightmareSnake It is fully logical.
For example. If you woke up every morning to a burly man clapping both your ears as hard as he could, but got paid $500 afterwords, would you continue to do it, even though it will most likely cause deafness? Chances are no. Why? Because of the pain, and the sheer stupidity of it all.
Mis respetos
Elf est un groupe de Blues rock / Hard rock américain du début des années '70. Son leader était Ronnie James Dio.
Oui oui, très bien!
The version that Rod Stewart sang was good. There is no doubt about it. However, I like this version better.
Dio was fine the band recording awful
This version is far superior!
Awesome
@blavaburnulots That's the thing, there was no misinterpretation. It was an obvious and blunt comment, with an obvious and blunt meaning. You, friend, are very stilled in backpedaling.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great
Why can't I find this as an album?
It’s called “before elf there were elves”
that's a good song actually
@Cessate Man, you really have a way with words and I'm not being sarcastic either. Great work man. I always love to see some well written responses that justify the person's opinion. Was English your major in College or University?
@blavaburnulots I never said they weren't allowed an opinion. But there IS such thing as talent and lack there of. Music deserves talent. Not bullshit nu-metal dribble. Just sayin'.
@blavaburnulots I'm hanging onto it solely because you repeat it and refuse to take note of your folly. It's really that simple.
Ronnie why you didn't stay with us?
"I'm standing in the shadows now,
You think I'm dead and gone somehow,
But when the morning comes you'll see my face, oh you know,
I'm coming back for you."
Still waiting Dio.
certainly did not give him "his start". he'd been making records a decade prior..

This version I think is better than Faces'. Too bad Rod Stewart lost his balls and became a pop musician.
@blavaburnulots No, I hang onto it due to the reason listed prior. Now who's conjuring assumptions/misinterpreting?

yes he do , made me look twice
mister Dio era foda!
1:24 is a awesome picture.
@Cessate As for the question of the best drummers in metal and it's subgenres, I'm with Nicko; Lose the double bass pedals, and we'll talk.
Better than Rod.
@NightmareSnake Nickelback (and like bands), as well as their fans, are the same way. They listen to talentless drivel, with song structures similar to a child's nursery rhyme; with lyrics that could been written by a 6 year old little brother.

does anyone know the song where ronnie sings about the hills of tennessee
@blavaburnulots Notice how I dropped the subject when you did and responded to your question? Seems like you're much more hellbent than I.
@miser42 This is assumption. Though it's true I don't like SoaD what so ever, it's not out of jealousy, dislike, or resentment that I make my comments. It's due tot he fact that as a band, they simply are not good lyrically, or musically.

@NightmareSnake Wow! Schooled by a kid!

No.
@Cessate :)))))))))))))))))))))nuff said
KNEW SABBATH' WAR PIGS WAS A POSER MOVE PROOF HERE DIO
@miser42 Credentials on how Nu-Metal is bad? Try the simplistic lack lust musicianship. The teenage angst-ridden lyrics that come across as if a 13 year old who just got his Xbox taken away wrote them. Or perhaps the extreme cop-out to mainstream media where they play their souless music for money as opposed to anything else? I never thought in my life I'd have to actually justify to anyone with a brain as to why Nu-Metal is a joke amongst the music community.
@Cessate Plus your channel even says you like Metal, Industrial, and Hip-Hop. How can you not like Nu-Metal when it is those 3 other genres combined?
"Sup-par"?
@Cessate Your comment was posted 2 months ago. Just giving this poor kid everyone's dumping on some help, cuz people like what people like, and just cuz you don't like it doesn't mean that everyone has to not like it. Joey Jordison has played drums for Ministry, Metallica, Satyricon, and Otep. He has remixed for Marilyn Manson and Puscifier, and produced for 3 Inches of Blood. So clearly, you're right, he has no talent, and people who actually make music recognize it. Check the facts, dolt
