- A documentary of a 12 day birding and nature trip to the Malaysian state of Sabah on the island of Borneo in August 2024.
We visited Mount Kinabalu, Sepilok, the Kinabatangan River, Gomantong Caves and Imbak Canyon and filmed many sought-after birds including Whitehead's Broadbill and Trogon, Hornbills, Barbets, Partridges and Pittas.
Mammals incude Orangutan, Proboscis Monkey, Langur, Macaque, Gibbon, Sun Bear, Slow Loris and Civet.
Plants include rare orchids, Nepenthes and Rafflesia.
That video was brilliant and beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Love the content! You’re a huge inspiration for my channel and can’t wait to showcase the world like you!
Thank you. You'll have plenty of fun sharing what you find.
I am so inspired by this video! its like a world of pokemon where u able to capture exciting and legendary pokemon! all those birds are so magjestic its awfully beutiful!
Magnificent! protection for Wild life utmost importance.
Some great bird sightings. Interesting to see the same places I visited and some I missed. Thanks.
Apart from referring to a civet as a cat, this was a well-edited and well-paced video. A lovely insight into the unique wildlife of this superb region of the world
Thanks. Yes, strictly speaking that was a loose way to refer to a Civet. Thanks for pointing it out.
Quite an amazing place & the birding trip you did looked very interesting! So many brilliant birds and animals!! I think once we get to all the places we want to bird around Australia, Borneo will be high on the list to visit!! Thanks for the video! ~ K & N
Thankyou...a truly enjoyable watch. Putting Borneo on my bucket list for birds for sure...Didn't realise how many Toucans, Barbets etc could be found there 😊
Thanks . It's a fantastic place for birds. No Toucans though. Probably Hornbills were what you meant as both families have such huge beaks and get confused.
@@alanadare7052 oh yes of COURSE ha ha...whoops, i meant Hornbills..😄
Beautiful island..i life in Borneo Kalimantan Indonesia
great additions to The List, great footage, and great cinematic design work once you got home :) thanks as always!
Thank you
Lovely memories. In awe of your editing... it couldn't have been easy deciding what to show! Thank you for including my artwork and "in action" shot!
A great pleasure Tanya.
The birds here are really special, too.
Lovely video and very well produced. It was a pleasure to travel with you both.
Thanks Phil. Likewise. Some of your photos were brilliant.
Alana and Greg, am in awe of your trip. Your wildlife video and photos are fabulous along with commentary to get a flavour of the wildlife seen, places visited and general travel. I happened to notice at 31.10 the overlaying Blue-eared Kingfisher for a bee-eater, possibly a Blue-Throated Bee-eater (Iooked it up). Inspiring stuff to get out more and see the wonders of the natural world ! Cheers, Richard
Thanks RJ. Yes, Greg meant to put in BT Bee-eater. I didn't pick it up either. Well spotted.
Ised to study in New Zealand for few months in early 1980s..I think NZ is very relax n amazing place to do birding. Have visited Melbourne n Sydney..but hoping (while still around)to visit Northern Territory n Tasmania!!
Proud for your video as a Sabahan❤
You live in such a beautiful and fascinating place that we are visiting again very soon and hopefully making another film. We love Sabah.
some truly beautiful birds!
Great video, so much to see / regards / Lance
Fabulous video as usual 😍. Thanks!

The Javan Finches are one of the many popular pet birds in Japan.🇯🇵 Many of these birds are exported to other countries as pet trades.
Yes, I'm afraid so.
Beautiful guys! Used to work in Sabah for few year in 1990s.now pensioned n back to Kedah.northern Peninsular Malaysia{P..M.) Try to do birding in CAMERON Highlands in P.M. and Sarawak state. National Park in P.M. in much better!
We'll keep that in mind. Thanks.
so many beautiful birds !!! any leeches in the rainforest ?
I did visit many Bornean forests in Sabah and there were many leeches in the forest haha. But it was not too bad. I had some crawl up on my hair as well haha.
Greg got one on the stomach!
Looks like a great trip. Did your guide use bird call?
He did for the Pitta on the track and tried for some other rare species but mostly they were just spotted. Easy enough with Hornbills!
Singapore also has several species of sunbirds, particularly the Olive-backed Sunbird. However, Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR only has one single species of sunbird, and that is the Seallowtail Sunbird. Its favourite flower nectar is from the Baihinia Flowering Tree which blooms in the spring.
awesome! 31.09 should be blue throated bee-eater instead of kingfisher.
Thanks
Can you tell me how I can book a tour like this
Lots of local wildife guides to take you around. Also NatureArt Lab is going there again in March
