I'm using 2mm in mine because my girlfriend had 2 unused rolls of it... Seems to work heaps better than the 1.6 it came with. I'm also finding the battery doesn't get as hot, so that implies it's actually less stressful to the motor. Though I do run on low speed almost 100% of the time, so that would help I assume.
The spring that came with the unit seems quite flimsy. I found that when operating the unit, the auto feed slider gets stuck and doesn't release as it should and this, to me, is one of the reasons I can't get the unit to auto feed as it should. Did you achieve a better result with the biro spring?

Hi Maria, So first the skin only is the trimmer and no battery so if you have a ryobi battery at home this is what you would get. The battery size is what you are seeing when it says 2.0ah 5.0ah and so on bigger the number bigger the battery and longer the running time to simplify it for you. They’re two 18v models that they have for sale at the moment and the main difference between the two is one you will need to turn the whole machine around to do the edges. The other one is like the one you see in this video and you can twist the middle bar and turn the cutting line. I would tend towards the bigger battery if you are only getting the trimmer and done have a battery at home, though I bought the skin only as I had already got the ryobi mower with the battery. Hopefully this is helpful 😊
I just got one and I'm not a fan of how easy it might be to unnecessarily advance the line with the trigger. Is there a way to make sure it won't advance? It isn't very hard to open and manually advance it. Maybe if I hook it into more notches it won't advance accidentally?
The whole idea of the clipping the line into one of the little notches is to stop the line from unwinding on the spool whilst you are feeding the line through the hole as shown in the video. Once the line is fed through the hole then place the spool over the shaft, unpin the line from the little notch, push the spool fully onto the shaft then replace the cap. Leaving the line hooked into one of the notches will anchor the line and it won't advance at all which is not what you want to happen.
@@Mike-li5yq That's the thing. I Don't want it to advance, unnecessarily wasting line. There's a diamond-shaped fixed-line head for this model of trimmer, but apparently its line-securing pins break extremely easily.
If it’s coming out a lot you where probably winding it the wrong direction. That’s what I did at one point until I found out how to wind it correctly. When I didn’t wind it correctly, the line would fly out and cut off heaps of extra line and one flung off and gave me a mad blood bruise 😅. If you follow this video let me know if you have the same problem
When your winding it on you will need to be careful that you don’t do it to tightly. I have had this happen to me as well and loosened the cable and made a huge difference. Hopefully that works for you as well.
@@watching99134 undue stress on the motor? As anR/C hobby enthusiast. Motor you can find out of a clapped out drill ( cordless ryobi ( for example) and just replace if you have to! I boosted the ryobi cordless leaf blowerthay way. Brushed motor is easy. Cheers.
Hi Dragan, since I have had it I have used the 2mm after the original line ran out and I have had no problems I am yet to try the 1.6mm line as that is what it is meant to use I have recently found out. Though I can tell you that anything thinker then 2mm will not work. It docent cut off and feed out correctly and can be quite dangerous. I ended up having a big chunk fly off punching my leg. I was wearing shorts that didn't help but regardless I wouldn't recommend it.
@@dellereviews8661 hi. I found a vid. In which if you put the 2mm line in water? It becomes stronger, less stiff and more pliable. I tried that. You can feel the difference in your hands as your feeding the line in. Cheers
@@dragan3290 I've tried 1.6mm and 2mm lines but they don't advance at all. The unit works for a few seconds then the lines snap where the line pokes out from the spool. Can't work out why this happens.

Horrible weed eater I followed this video exactly and my string just doesn’t want to Come out. Cut one piece of grass and the string breaks and doesn’t replace itself. And it was the string that came with it. I dunno what I’m doing wrong
This could be from how tightly you are winding the line I found that happened to me and I wound it again but not as tight and it worked it was like the line would get stuck to it’s self
I thought the video was awesome! Super clear instructions, Audio was perfect all around. I’ve seen videos where the music was too loud, distracting, etc. This was not one of those.

Pretty sure Ryobi also sell pre-wound spools you can just swap out in a few seconds to make it even easier too.
They do, but they cost heaps ( pack of three) for the shitty thin blue line that constantly breaks😂😂

It's so tight because that head is designed for 1.6mm line, but good instruction regardless!

Did you forgot to say that you should cut off a length of three meters to wind onto the spool.
I personally didn’t measure. So I’m not to sure how much I used. I just eye ball it 😅

The only thing that you might be doing is winding it to tightly? I did that and I found the thread would get stuck to its self.
not helpful because every 2 min the thread disappears then have to re insert through hole
