Yes the wiiu was fine it just had possibly some of the worse marketing they could had done. For the first 2 years most people assumed the wiiu gamepad was to the wii was like what the kinect was for the 360 not realising it was its own standalone console.
The WiiU was an underwhelming hardware with some of the best 1st party game ever made. Having things like Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Mario 3D World, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Super Mario Maker, Mario Kart 8, Pikmin 3, the best version of Rayman Legend and a good legacy shop.
One of the biggest problems with Blockbuster All Access was it structure. It inadvertently help Netflix more than Blockbuster. You see, when an All access member took a movie (usually that week's new release) off the shelf. The store Lost that movie to rent however it wasn't compensated in any way. And when regular members showed up to rent that week's new releases (every store's largest revenue source) there was nothing left in the inventory to rent. Then Blockbuster corporate would then yell at the employees for the store sales being down. It was actually better for the employees to push people towards Netflix rather than blockbuster all access. Because a Netflix customer couldn't come in and take your stores largest source of revenue off the shelfs. And that's exactly what many employees did.
There's a fascinating book about Blockbuster called "Built to Fail". Netflix didn't kill Blockbuster. Upper management did. Non-company franchisees were extremely successful.
I still have one. It was nice being able to reply games like assassin's creed 3 and the Wii version of need for speed carbon. When it comes to need for speed carbon, it's so much better on the PS2. Motion controls with driving is a worse experience.
@Reaperguy67 that's why I want a switch so I can play assassin's creed games again. Also I see they remastered every Arkahm game but not Arkahm Knight):
The Wii U's failure is what lead to the Switch being invented. Nintendo directly credits the failure of the Wii U as the inspiration to go back to the drawing board and get the Switch right.
I got a Segway from my granddad a few years ago because nobody else wanted it (which should've been a sign). It didn't take me long to realize why it didn't take off. It was fun, but a pain in the ass to haul around when not riding it. No way in hell I'm dragging that thing up the stairs in my building with the broken elevator
Wii U, PSP, and Google Glasses were ahead of their time. 3D TV might have been as well but you could also argue it came a little too late. Like I see 3D TV being huge in the 2000s and evolving into 3D streaming in the 2010s, but then again Nintendo 3DS was a thing and there's a reason that didn't continue or was rivalled.
You know 3D was a fad back in the 1950s? It was a fad then, it was a fad in the 1970s (yes it reappeared mid 1970s) and it was a fad in the 2000s. As long as you know that, it will make a reappearance down the road ... as another fad. The TV makers didn't see the light and built TVs for a temporary fad thinking it would last.
It's weird because looking back, the Wii U had some of Nintendo's best games on it, it was just marketed wrong and suffered for it, people didn't know what it was and that was the problem (where are the Zelda remasters on Switch Nintendo?)
Honestly the Wii U should be lower on this list, because it wasn’t a massive failure, since it wasn’t really a bad console, it just had shortcomings, and it’s successor the Switch was a massive success! Nokia N-Gage should replace the Wii U on that spot. The Google glass was so horrible, that someone was wearing it at my cousin’s high school graduation, and we called out the creep!
I think it’s based on money spent on development, marketing, and distribution versus how much money they made back. Not just being “bad”. I mean the Wii was beloved and all those games and more were in Wii U. But the second tablet thing was more of a gimmick than anything, and forcing you to use it was frustrating I heard. I remember attending the first Google"Glass Roadshow" demo event in Durham, North Carolina. We had 10 minutes hands-on with demo models and any interest I had before that was gone as a result. Hee hee, the name Wii U makes it sound like a Wii that's going to or meant for college! Honestly I think they all along wanted the Wii U to be like the Switch but the tech back then just wasn't quite ready for it (in terms of getting the tablet small enough as well as affordable enough).
The reason Windows Vista failed was that its predecessor, Windows XP, was on the market too long. People had ten-year-old PCs and then were mad that Vista didn’t run well. Windows 7 is eerily similar to Vista but was way better received. As for Apple Maps, it does have better GPS driving directions than Google, but it doesn’t have good walking directions and almost no cycling directions. The reason it wasn’t discontinued is that it works in China, where Google Maps is banned, so millions of people use it there.
Wild how bad Google glass bombed, yet Apple still put out that new headgear. Maybe there's a market for it now, or maybe Google didn't have the diehard followers that Apple does

The screen on the Wii U controller was a secondary display, and it could not be used as a primary display for hand held gaming*

Hee hee, the name Wii U makes it sound like a Wii that's going to or meant for college! Honestly I think they all along wanted the Wii U to be like the Switch but the tech back then just wasn't quite ready for it (in terms of getting the tablet small enough as well as affordable enough).
I still regularly play the wii u. Theres something charming about it

Wild how bad Google glass bombed, yet Apple still put out that new headgear. Maybe there's a market for it now, or maybe Google didn't have the diehard followers that Apple does
Everyone is returning the vision pro because they realize it's very limited and not worth the 3500. The videos are pretty much non-existent now on TH-cam.
