Not sure how the Samsung fold made this list as Razr and Samsung are competing in the foldable sector. I have both Motorola razr plus and Samsung Z flip 6. Samsung has two major advantages, one being the deciding factor to switch back to Samsung. Samsung has an amazing ecosystem that isn't monopolized like Apple does, and the screen quality build/hinge is superior to Motorola Razr plus. Less than a year, the Razr plus screen fold section is starting to crack, their software, stock file explorer will not access files. Thus I switch back to Samsung. The flag ship phones are too big for me to sit comfortably in pockets.
Betamax wasn't a complete failure, it became the standard tape for TV stations. Like TV shows, commercials and news. The TV industry stayed with Betamax because the quality was higher and the players were easier to repair than VHS. A lot of the high quality cameras back then used Betamax. Also a lot of video editors used Betamax players back then.
Not exactly. TV studios and stations used Betacam. The tapes looked the same but recorded in a different format on different tape. Standard format for physically distributing whole TV series to broadcasters. In the 80s/90s if a TV wanted to rerun a series they got a big box of tapes shipped to them. Now it comes either directly downloaded or received a small harddrive arriving in the mail.
@thortele Surprising, since most p0rn videos were sold by mail in plain packages, that the smaller Beta tapes weren't used due to being cheaper to ship.
Funny thing about the zune. When my wife and I were newly married we were having a terrible argument as many newly weds do. I went to Walmart after work and bought her a zune to try to smooth things over. It did work and we're still together 18 years later. I no longer have the zune but still have the lady, so in a small way Microsoft did succeed with the zune.
I think one problem with the Zune was that Microsoft tried to go head to head with Apple at a time when Apple had a large amount of the market. My understanding is that another factor was that the device wasn't quite ready when they released it. The software had issues, and some of the touted features didn't work or didn't work properly. What might have worked better is for Microsoft to release the Zune as only a music player, with the features and PC software working perfectly. Then, as features are perfected, they are added to the player.
Absolutely loved my Zune. I bought one on a trip to the US and used it for years in the UK. Lots of people asked about it and wanted to get one, but Microsoft decided to only sell in the US and Canada. I believed Zune could have beaten iPod if the software was more reliable, the marketing was better and they had released the device outside US and Canada. It was the better device.
@@Jozefkombatski I think there were many players of that time that did the same job as the iPod at that time, and many of them did the job as good as if not better. To me, the only major advantage of the iPod was the larger storage capacity. I had the first Sony Walkman Digital Audio Player (DAP) that could natively play MP3 files and it worked very well, so much so that I'm still using a Sony Walkman DAP to this day.
The Samsung Z Fold lineup is thriving selling millions per year. Not to mention that so many tech brands followed suit with foldable phones after. It doesn't deserve to be on the list.

One of the zune models had an odd issue. If you are actively using it on new years eve, right at midnight when the year changes over the device completely bricks. Only fix for it was to use certain button presses to factory reset it or use your pc. I had a later model that was a gears of war 2 edition and loved it. I get why the Gen 1 Z Fold is here, but it has reshaped the future wth. Literally, every major tech company is developing, improving, and expanding their standards on folding devices
I LOVED Google Plus! I really liked the way it was integrated into TH-cam comments and the way commenting on a video showed up in Circles and often got interesting conversations started.
@orangecat4579 I'm not. As I mentioned, the feature I really liked that was pretty much the only reason I used it a lot was the youtube comments integration. It just made interacting with other commenters much more convenient than what the youtube app offers.
My Samsung flod out phone is great 😊 excellent for watching this very video 😊 It works for me because I MOSTLY watch U- tube videos. F the list! Im watching this on a Fold 4 😂 my second Fold. However I waited on the 1st 2 to go there. Want the special edition 6 but of course not available in the US🤦🏾♂️
This is my thoughts. It ran it's course because smartphones were introduced into the technology market. They offered music, movies, videos and games. No longer a need for Zune or iPod.
Microsoft matured multiple patent's that are now licensed to Spotify and others. They just get checks every year without producing products perpetually. They did the same thing with Windows phone.
While the Galaxy Fold had its issues, I don't believe it belongs on this list. Its successors like the Z Fold 2 ironed out a lot of the issues the original had. Hell, they even went ahead and made the first Z Flip in 2020. Right now, the Z Fold/Flip line is on its 6th generation, and I personally own a Z Flip 6, which I really enjoyed using.
Fun fact about the galaxy seven. Well I myself never had one. I’ve always been an iPhone person. Purely because I’ve had negative interactions with Samsung phones for years. A friend of mine actually did have one. And one time he tried to get onto an airline. The airline actually asked him what kind of cell phone he had. When he mentioned which one he had the individual behind the desk scribbled something onto a little card and told him to give said card to the stewardess once he got on the flight. He didn’t know what it was And he didn’t know why. But he took the card got onto his flight and then handed the card to one of the stewardesses. The stewardess, then went back to the back of the plane and came back with a little box. This box looked almost like one of those little safes that she would put something like a pistol in. Confused, he didn’t understand what was happening. The stewardess then went on to explain that because of the concern with the battery issue with his phone, he was going to have to have it put in this little box. This box was a essentially reverse fire safe. The idea of being that if the phone were to combust, it would stay contained inside this little box. Now, unfortunately, this also meant that he wouldn’t be able to use it while on the flight. And well, yes, you can’t make cell phone calls on flights. This also of course meant that he couldn’t use it as a little computer tablet. If I remember correctly, one of the first things he did when he got home off of the flight was he immediately went to aI think it was a Verizon store and bought a different phone. Not that I blame him.
You forgot Windows 8, Windows RT and Windows Phone. Microsoft literally has no mobile device platform or wearable in the most lucrative market because of those failures.
Beta was a superior product, but VHS used their market cap and clout to force them out of the industry, there was a lot of underhanded crap that VHS piled on them.
I think of 2 things when I hear Betamax 1. Monty Python‘s Meaning of Life (opening scene - mother asks if she can see her baby & she’s told she can see the birth on Betamax) 2. SLCPunk (marks house - showing off all his shit and won’t let steveo & bob leave until he’s done explaining all of it)
The best MP3 player I have ever had the privilege to own and use was my Microsoft Zune. It worked flawlessly until Microsoft released the kill update for the Zune Marketplace. The video display was second to none and I could pick up FM radio stations more than 100 miles away. My car couldn't even do that. The ONLY thing I didn't like about my Zune was the glass discs that made up the hard drive. Other than that I wish Zune was still available. I would run out and buy or steal one or two right now. (My 128gb iPod Touch is dying and I have no idea what to get to replace it. LOL!)
The Zune wasn't really a failure, it was just different than Apods. It lasted for 6 years then in 2012 people stepped away from mp3 players and used smart phones and Spotify for music.
The Sinclair C5 was developed by Sir Clive Sinclair, a British inventor who was also behind some of the early home computers. Although it was a commercial failure, partly because of its size and lack of visibility on the road, as a proof of concept it was way ahead of its time. Im really not sure you can include Betamax as a failure. It was by far a better format, used by TV companies across the world. It offered smaller tapes, better features and quality compared to VHS. It was the p0rn industry backing VHS that killed Beta.
Ummmmmm, I am literally watching this video on the 3rd fold I have owned. I would never be able to return to a small, non-folding phone. I owned folds 1, 3, and now the 5. They don't belong on this list.
I'll say again what I say EVERY time I see the Sinclair C5... "STEERING WHEEL!" If they had taken the time to give the thing an actual steering wheel, it would have sold 10X the units. And probably have been a small financial success. I'd still consider the Segway a far worse monstrosity than the C5. And that thing's still hanging around like a bad smell to this day.
The note7 lived on as note fan edition. Pretty underwhelming though, coming from a note 4. Should've gone straight to the 8 and not the note FE. Switched to the 8 after just 2 months.
@@tcut95 But all of the items on this list are no longer on the market EXCEPT the Galaxy Fold. After seeing the Fold on this list, this video became inconsistent and totally based on an opinion.
An option for your next video a failed technology would be the Lume Pad 1, it had such heating problems and such limited application and such poor viewing angle it was sad because it had so much potential. A little heat sink might have kept the screen from popping off of the battery expanding. That would have only cost a few pennies. The second version had much better video quality but the heat problem still persists and they went to eye tracking which only works when there's enough light another big oversight. Once again 3D has shot itself in the foot. Who spends $1,200 for a one year lifespan on a limited functionality tablet?
Haha, dang Blockbuster. Netflix tried to sell the company to Blockbuster and Blockbuster basically laughed at them. Ultimately it was Netflix that put Blockbuster out of business once Netflix turned into a streaming service because with streaming, there was no need to go and rent videos anymore. Hearing this, that BB tried to steal Netflix's idea of mailing out DVD's it makes me wonder why BB didn't just buy Netflix when they had the chance? I don't even understand how Netflix's original concept was successful. You go online, pick the movies you want to rent and then they mail those movies to you, sounds so stupid. Its like "Well, I think I wanna watch some movies next week so if I order them now they'll be in the mail by the time I need them." Maybe people liked that you could hang onto them for aslong as you want, but it still seems dumb to me. What am I missing here?? Whoever came up with the idea for dropping that and switching to streaming is a genius. They basically came up with the idea of streaming. Netflix was basically the first streaming company and the only one that's really profitable these days. Crazy how they went from a dumb idea that somehow worked of mailing DVD's to people to a streaming service.

Running speed and playing times wasn't the reason VHS beat Betamax, it was because Sony wouldn't allow people to record porno on their cassettes.
Beta didn't fail because it was bad or anything. It was because the adult industry chose vhs.
Philips cdi was going to be adding for the Nintendo.
You forgot Windows 8, Windows RT and Windows Phone.
Microsoft literally has no mobile device platform or wearable in the most lucrative market because of those failures.
I'm still using gen one fold. It's not a failure, people just don't know how to treat their things.
Beta was a superior product, but VHS used their market cap and clout to force them out of the industry, there was a lot of underhanded crap that VHS piled on them.
I think of 2 things when I hear Betamax
1. Monty Python‘s Meaning of Life (opening scene - mother asks if she can see her baby & she’s told she can see the birth on Betamax)
2. SLCPunk (marks house - showing off all his shit and won’t let steveo & bob leave until he’s done explaining all of it)
Why the Ouya its not in this list!?
GetMoJo is a failure
The best MP3 player I have ever had the privilege to own and use was my Microsoft Zune. It worked flawlessly until Microsoft released the kill update for the Zune Marketplace. The video display was second to none and I could pick up FM radio stations more than 100 miles away. My car couldn't even do that. The ONLY thing I didn't like about my Zune was the glass discs that made up the hard drive. Other than that I wish Zune was still available. I would run out and buy or steal one or two right now. (My 128gb iPod Touch is dying and I have no idea what to get to replace it. LOL!)
Fold didnt fail , maybe in canada it did
Apple Maps is really good now. You can tell they really invested into the product to get it right.
The Zune wasn't really a failure, it was just different than Apods. It lasted for 6 years then in 2012 people stepped away from mp3 players and used smart phones and Spotify for music.
Theranos wasn't a failure, it was a fraud thing
I still rock my zune
7:29 That sounded like a one liner from a villain in a horror movie
What about apple vision pro 3000 at launch earlier this year, minimal apps, users say it was front face heavy, production scraped already
Including fold here is a choice, lol😂
Currently watching from my galaxy fold 4, I think the fold series of phones was a success.
Best thing to come out of Google Glass is the movie Jeruzalem (2015).
But it is actually depending on where you bought the Bandai Pippin console, because it was either called The Bandai Pippin At Mark or @World
The zune was great, it was just toi late to the party
I'll say again what I say EVERY time I see the Sinclair C5... "STEERING WHEEL!" If they had taken the time to give the thing an actual steering wheel, it would have sold 10X the units. And probably have been a small financial success.
I'd still consider the Segway a far worse monstrosity than the C5. And that thing's still hanging around like a bad smell to this day.
The note7 lived on as note fan edition. Pretty underwhelming though, coming from a note 4. Should've gone straight to the 8 and not the note FE. Switched to the 8 after just 2 months.
HOW DARE YOU DISRESPECT ZUNE!!
The fold is still around. I'd hardly call it a failure.
the first one was ... not great.
@@tcut95 But all of the items on this list are no longer on the market EXCEPT the Galaxy Fold. After seeing the Fold on this list, this video became inconsistent and totally based on an opinion.
@@drsnowmon And?
That is true but the first one is still widely considered to be a "tech failure."
@@tcut95 Failure in tech business means it's 'out of business' which is a false statement in this case.
The Zune was and is awesome! I still have 2 of them that I still listen to
I loved my Zune❤❤❤
Thumbs down for including the Fold in this list. It kicked off a whole new form factor that many companies are now copying and trying to make better. Not a failure.
What about the Cuecat?
Chrome killing internet explorer
You forgot Apple Vision Pro 😅😅
6:15 In 1996, the Internet was known as the "Information Superhighway" .
7:26 as others have said, Betamax was actually superior, but the porn industry used VHS tapes. That’s the real reason VHS won out.
