Im Swedish and i live in Uppsala as you mention in your video. We have a places called Old Uppsala in Uppsala and there are 3 big hills that is called the kings hills after viking kings that are bured there. The have done excavations there and they found boatgraves whit human and animal remains and things in them from vikings. They belive its from the age of 900

It is a masterfully depicted scene. 🎥

Viking's came to Ireland most landed in Wexford & spread out even to Dublin. A Cave was Found recently in Kilkenny. In the cave they found Skeletons of Vikings & Other items. It is now open to the public.

IMO Ivar was the best one. I had already been curious about what he’d be like as an adult when the series showed his birth and childhood, and I was also interested in the historical Ivar, but way Alex Høgh Andersen portrayed him in the series and the way he just became the character and gave his all to that performance blew me away and made Ivar even more iconic, especially coming from such a young actor, and as a fellow disabled person (although not physically) I could relate to Ivar’s anger and his struggles. No wonder he’s a fan favourite. LEGEND.
Just finished watching "VIKINGS"... Excellent show... Also, very much enjoyed "THE LAST KINGDOM" which is the story of Uhtred of Babbemberg(sp?)... His story is very intriguing as well... The castle still stands today & is available for tours... Love the Viking History...

You can get married at Bamburgh Castle, it's a licensed wedding venue! The only thing putting us off is that they can only do small receptions; we're trying to work around that because I'm so hoping to get married in a Northumbrian castle ❤
I watched Vikings and The Last Kingdom. I wanted to learn more about Vikings...found your channel...thank you bunches 😊. I don't believe EVERYTHING is told about them. I believe so much was buried/destroyed. Many people did not want these warriors to be remembered.

My great great grandfather was 6ft8 .his ancestors came to Virginia colony and over time they served in the Virginia Militia and married into other landed military families related to George Washington. They came to the new world from the York area of England. I have seen some freemasons believe George Washington was a direct male descendant of Half- Dan. Great video!

Same one of the most impressive thing for me is everywhere they went and they eventually settled into from Normandy England even the Normans in Sicily the varangian guard all were the best warriors and their generations all from Norse and or Viking stock
This is so cool!! From tracing my ancestry back I think I’m directly descended from Ivar the Boneless. I think from memory I’ve traced it from Australia. Back to England to France to Norway to Sweden. And I think it’s only 35 generations back

@@candacemaitland9450 Yeah following the Danelaw and then invasion by William the conqueror in 1066 the Vikings and Saxons began to mix into one group and the languages combined. A strange point is that the auto immune condition psoriasis is prevelent in England and Scotland and higher than most places in the world however Norway is the country with the highest rates and it is thought that these genes were brought from Scandinavia during the 900s along with various other traits, there is another condition affecting the tendons on one finger that can affect people with Scandinavian genes too. There is likely much more to discover but unfortunately lines of genetic research is not always encouraged or funded in this day and age as unfortunately there is a political move to create the everyone is the same scenario and genetic research that may also result in tests of intelligence or ability are seen as troublesome

Fucken 0.5% of the world's male population is descended from Djengis Khan, doesnt make them modern day warlords.
Halfdan from the show was one of my favorite characters. He had a really chill personality.

I read somewhere a long time ago that Ivar the boneless was called that as he was so good a sailor he moved with the ship on the waves like he had no bones.
There are many depictions as to why he was called Ivar the boneless but there is no actual explanation as to why, I like what you said it kinda would make sense, he was like a serpent like jormungandr.

Hey, the only reason William was able to break Ivar's curse was because he was a descendant of Vikings. So really he didn't break the curse, he ensured it 😁

No the name Viking is used in retrospect to refer to the Scandinavian race that existed in Norway and surrounding areas and then began to move outwards, it is also used to differentiate between other Germanic peoples in the area for example saxons, Angles ect. It did originally refer to a raider but has taken on the classification of a race as it is specific to that group. It is clear now that if someone talks of vikings they are not referring to random raiders but specifically Scandinavian people from a certain time period. People researching back will not say they have ancestors who are Norwegian and German when researching the 900s for example, they will state thay they have ancestors that were Vikings and Anglo Saxons as this gives more clarity on the persons involved and the group that race was part of. Of course in terms of race the Vikings, Saxons, Danes, Angles ect were all part of the Germanic race as are the groups in those areas today. A large percentage of British people have shared dna from William the conqueror who in turn was decended from Rollo the walker a "viking'
@@wendyHew Viking- the act of raiding/Vikingr- individual Norse raider/Vikingar- multiple Norse raiders. That being said, when referring to the Viking age, they're specifically referring to the age of Scandinavian expansion through raiding, trading and settling. Viking doesn't by any means describe ancient Scandinavians as a whole. It's far more complicated than that.

Bjorn was, according to the Norse Sagas, the son of Aslaug and a younger brother of Ivar. Vikings, the TV series, changed some key information - making Bjorn Lagatha's son.
I love Lagatha's portrayal in the series- but she was the mother of Eric and Aegnor in the sagas.
There is No prof of Ragnars real life, most is from a saga

What I'm trying to point out is the brothers from the Great Heathen Army had a dad.
We have historical record of the Norsemen's many raids into Europe and Rus. There are records of Ivar, Bjorn, Sigurd, Halfdan, and Ubbe - sons of Ragnar.
Just because a guy maybe wasn't a hero twelve times over doesn't erase him.
I often wonder how these Vikings who wanted nothing more than to become legendary figures what they would think of the fact that there names are not just known around the globe in their own time but now thousands of years later!
Ivar the Boneless has always been my favorite of Ragnars sons.
I am of Scottish/ Highland descent. There is Pictish genealogy in my Caledonian bloodline. That means, I share kinship with Vikings. I found this recounting totally riveting. My grand fathers family spoke Scots Gaelic, Doric and Flemish. They were seamen of Orkney.

Been loving your videos as usual. I have a small request though, a video about William Wallace. Many people go with the Braveheart movie version but the latter has a lot of innacuracies with actual real events, and the the Scottish fight was an interesting read I had in history books
William Wallace was not the true Braveheart, sadly most don’t know the true history. The term Braveheart came from Robert the Bruce…… You can do the research yourselves, but the fact of the matter is is the movie depiction is totally inaccurate.
Robert the Bruce spearheaded the term Braveheart, when he on his deathbed, asked the crusaders to cut out his heart, and to carry it to battle on a crusade, Which they did, whereas he was left on the battlefield and named the true Braveheart.
I am actually a direct descendent of Robert the Bruce through his daughter Marjorie, who had a son named David… king David II of Scotland, what is the grandson of Robert the Bruce. King David’s great grandson, married into the Gordon clan by marriage. I would have to look up his name exactly.
Some of the film was taken from a book called The Lion of Ireland it is about Brian Boru
Boneless/Beinløs also translates as legless. There is some hint in the text that they carried him around; this would then make sense.
Then how did he fight with his father in a pitched battle as a boy with the strengh of a man? Which this doc talks about in the beginning?

If I see even one person walking around with a two weapon strapped to their back magically I'm going to freak out. As anyone knows you cannot draw a weapon like that go ahead and try. I did like a piece where kore' used his off hand to hold the blade itself and swing/block. Ivars awesome, dude was 19 playing a rock star role. Why in one scene do I see Ivar (of all people) also uselessly carrying around a a two handed sword on his back. Simple things like this would make it look more realistic as not every viking is some 6'4 275 lb man when a lot of them also had intestinal parasites and malnutrition. Great work on your video!

Thankyou for this, I learnt a lot. The thing that always gets me is Ragnars last voyage/mission to England. If he was as loved as the revenge that followed showed, how come so few actually went with him?? It just doesn't make sense?

You should make a video on Robin Hood or you could do a more recent video on a true warrior who stalked his enemies and made some very painful sacrifices just to make sure he killed his target Carlos Hatchcock a U.S Sniper during the Vietnam War, you could also do Sharp Shooters in the Revolutionary War or how the dif Indian Tribes Taught Americans, Brits, and the French Guerrilla Warfare. While I was researching my family tree I went way way back and found out that my ancestors are Ragnar. I travelled to York to find out more information. I have enjoyed my journey learning of my family's history. This documentary was brilliant to watch I have shared this with my children. We will be going back to York soon as we don't live to far away from there and doing more research.

I heard once or twice that the some of the son's of Ragnar May have just used ragnars name because of the fame it brought, and were not actually Ragnars son's. It is reports like this that make me always guessing who is who, and what is what. Oh if we could just find a conical of ragnar.
I have also heard that! Would have been a good way to attract warriors! Although you probably would have had to been a savage warrior to pull it off!
