A VW owner for the past 12 years. No issues at all. I take my car to the dealer for every scheduled service exactly on time. These are good cars if you take care of them.
You know I never liked euro cars as a mechanic of 10 years until we owned the old tiguan, bought with 71k on it, got rid of it for a bigger car at 202k miles, did a pcv valve, wheel bearing and a waterpump although waterpump wasnt leaking did it as preventitive we beat the crap out of it, did alot of research into taking care of it, alot of original parts. Id say they indeed can be very reliable if you are willing to do maintainence sooner than later.
I agree. I test drove a cx-8 and i didnt like the experience. At the roundabout when i was making a U-turn to check the body roll I was rolled at least 35degrees but VW tiguan is very stable. Which is what i am looking for.
Loved my Tiguan the tech was much better it was roomier and it was smoother. Unfortunately it burnt oil and I traded it in for the CX5…. CX5 has been great but I do miss my Tig
That was your first mistake going with VW…yes better tech but that’s pretty much it! They can’t beat the Japs in reliability so they stuff them with better tech to entice the younger gen drivers! I’ve had 4 Mazdas already and all have been super reliable - won’t ever touch a VW!
@@ztekz this is it right here. Many ppl commented on youtube about cx5 is outdated. And Im thinking, for what its worth cx5 has plenty of features that make my life very convenient, such as hud,auto-lock,pretty good sound system, has almost all safety tech, epb, smart phone connectivity while maintaining reliability, build quality n material quality surpassing its competitors. After all it is a transportation unit, not a laptop/tablet or pc.
The Apple Car Play in the CX-5 imo tops the tech of the VW with no CarPlay. My cousin has the ‘22 Tiguan and I a 2020 CX-5 touring. I definitely love the styling and cargo space of the new Tiguan, but the CarPlay in my CX-5 is a game changer. Especially with the flexibility between Google & Apple Maps. Not to mention the control knob between the seats, makes operating it a seamless experience compared to a touch screen. The only downside is I wish there was more room in the backseat in comparison to the Tiguan. Other than that, getting a power lift gate in a mid-level CX5 is a game changer, too, especially as a mom with a little kid. Whereas the Tiguan only features a power lift gate on select trims. Nevertheless, I do like the panoramic sun roof my cousin’s Tiguan has, too, but again, he doesn’t have CarPlay or a power lift gate. So it really depends!
Have both cars and they both have pros n cons. I dont prefer one over the other as they balance out. Its more about styling for preference, choose what you want and go for it.
I have owned 4 vw's and 7 Mazda's . after my wife and I have driven Mazdas since 2007 with only normal warranty services . We have had no recall or problems in all those tears. Mazda hands down.
I drove the SEL R line and purchased a CX 5 signature. The VW is bigger, 3rd seat is useless, power and driver engagement doesn't hold a candle to the CX 5. Infotainment is more techy but after getting used to the Mazda dial, I like it better than a touch screen.
Besides the amazing comparison, I just tested the secret feature involving the key fob on my uncles new 2022 cx 5 base model, and it actually works on every trim level of the cx 5!
Great comparison. It’s easy to see why both of these respective models are best sellers for both Mazda and Volkswagen. They’re both good all rounders. I’m kind of in both camps. My wife has an Audi Q5 which is the Tiguan with more HP and Torque as well as more luxury. My daughter has a CX-30 which we also love to drive. I have an MX-5 as weekend toy and a 4Runner for daily use. I’m impatiently waiting for the new CX-70 and will probably replace my 4Runner with that when it’s available. We love Mazda but nervously own an Audi with every extended warranty that they would sell us. I have a feeling we’re going to use it on the Audi. I would never buy a warranty for the Mazda though, they’re fantastic cars with outstanding reliability.
I used to be sure that only Russians and Japanese people drive the Mazda CX-5. I have such a car. Produced in Russia, at the Japanese plant in Vladivostok. I love these cars because they start and drive in -40 frost.
In Australia the extended wheelbase Tiguan competes with the CX-8 (which is an extended wheelbase CX-5). Having driven both back to back, it really comes down to what kind of driving experience you want. In Australia they both get very similar warranties = 5 year, annual/15,000km servicing (although Mazda just switched to 15,000km recently). This has slowly become the default factory warranty with BMW only just changing from the archaic 3 year warranty to 5 year warranty. Although under Australian consumer law, even cars as old as 10 years get some form of compulsory coverage. Two main differences exist in Australia that put Mazda ahead. First is that in Australia we still get the non US EPA diesel (i.e. Euro V). It's here where the Mazda diesel is years ahead of the VW mainly because VW uses a very standard high compression diesel, where Mazda uses a much more modern low compression diesel. Best way to compare is to park them next to each other, warm them up first (Mazda has a loud warm up that settles due to low compression). The Tiguan is much more agricultural because of the traditional compression ratio. Next is when it comes to the consumer. In consumer ratings, Mazda is often top 2. VW is almost always last.

@@neehalkhan2926 there isn’t that much body roll. Driven many and never had such an issue. If you want comfort over performance though, you’re right the Tiguan is better. It’s not the drivers car of the two.
@austindavis1045 lol tiguan looks like a tin can imagine calling mazda ugly when after watching 35 plus reviews everyone loves it sounds like homie mad about his purchase
I am looking at 2023 CX-5 (2.4L, 188 HP (not turbo)) and 2023 Tiguan 2L Turbo (180HP) 5 seater) . For the same price models, in the CX-5 i can get power seats, wireless charger, adaptive cruise control, blind sport monitoring, side mirror auto fold, head up display on windscreen, leather seats ect... These features are not in Tiguan. Driving experiance wise, i liked both cars. Which one to buy? Is it worth paying for Tiguan without all these options?
all those bells and whistles on the vw are gonna cost you down the road when they break down. good car for leasing and short term use but i would not buy this if you plan on keeping 6+ years

That's any car lmao the tiguan by cinsumer reports is the worse suv you can buy in this class

I had the Cx5 and I disagree with you about seat comfort. I now own a Tiguan and it is much more comfortable than the Cx5.

I got 300k miles on a 2003 Passat, but there are 2 Mazdas in my driveway right now. The refresh VW looks good, but the CX-5 is just better.
As it’s been said in the thread, leasing / short term ownership VW is the way to go. If you want longer go with the Mazda.
Once the warranty expires, you'll be very happy you chose the Mazda. As a lease vehicle or short term purchase, the VW is worth a look.
Loved my Tiguan the tech was much better it was roomier and it was smoother. Unfortunately it burnt oil and I traded it in for the CX5…. CX5 has been great but I do miss my Tig
How old is your tiguan? I thought burning oil issues just for old gen tiguan and theyve rectified it since 2018/2019 onwards

I like how the sound of your voice had more excitemen tone as you described the Mazda over the VW.

Mazda hands down. Japanese build quality, beautiful interior, great engines, AMAZING handling, I could go on and on!!

Why so many? Do you lease and trade?
Good presentation. Made my mind up a month ago on a new CX5. Have not made the factory order yet.

mazda for life❤️
Here in Australia... VW Tiguan Monochrome 2.0 Turbo and Mazda CX-5 2.5 Turbo GT35 SP is what I choosing between

Is the Volkswagen Tiguan better than the Mazda CX-5?
Homey don't think so.
😂 Agreed!
do you own both cars?
sorry but Mazda is 100% better!!
You dont get the pro 10.5 digital cluster in the US ?
That fuel economy in the volkswagon is horrible im pretty sure the 2.5 turbo cx 5 is pretty close
The Mazda looks way better….but did someone put pin stripes on it? Don’t like that .
They are two different styles definitely.
@austindavis1045 lol tiguan looks like a tin can imagine calling mazda ugly when after watching 35 plus reviews everyone loves it sounds like homie mad about his purchase
VW cars are for people who buy Top Flight golf balls and aren't embarrassed to be seen playing them.
🤣🤣🤣
The Mazda will outlast the VW 10 to 1;)
I know which one will be the most reliable.
😁
Mazda is better choice

Tig se r line has all these options.
Also, the seats in cx5 are not comfortable for long drives; the seat cushion is too short.
I think all-wheel drive doesn’t have third row.
Mazda beats all in driving dynamics and quality
Thanks.
Bells and whistles does not make a great car. Fit and finish and quality build makes the CX-5 one of the best in its class.
Mazda hands down. ❤❤❤
VW is cheap interior and mega inferior to Mazda!
Mazda CX5 >>VW Tiguan ! full stop !
Agreed!
all those bells and whistles on the vw are gonna cost you down the road when they break down. good car for leasing and short term use but i would not buy this if you plan on keeping 6+ years
Vw looks and is so boring car in Europe
Yeah agreed. I drive a Mazda 3 G120 2014 as a beginner car and it's a great car. Now it has almost 100k km on it. It can do much more!
Tiguan is not a crossover !
Why is this even a video 😔
VW wins!
