i do have to agree that the devs seem more interested in main weapons having the power to out-play (counter) a special. this dynamic is one of the reasons the meta is more interesting in S3 than S2: because we’re not waiting for specials before we can play the game, we’re able to move forward and take space at will.

Tbh the availability thing is the main reason why I don't think about this dynamic much
I enjoy having counters to specials, but good luck saving that without gutting your own offense (i like skirmishers/supports), so often times i'd rather just Use it and see what happens

I almost want a chart of every special and their specific upsides/downsides against each other. Not necessarily to say which ones are best, more so to visualize how many positive and negative interactions there are between each special. It would be an absolute mess for sure, but I still think it’s a cool idea.

To add to the Crab comments, I once used it to shove the pushing team off the tower during overtime. It can do Splatoon 2 baller tactics effectively and switch immediately into the beefiest anchor without pause

Bubble and vac are definitely the GBA FE swords of the Splatoon weapon triangle

Honestly I think they should make it so there is a turret ontop of the bubble that shoots weaker ink Canon shots at the nearest enemies and then for vac just enable it to shoot its shot early and also make it so that when the vac is ready you aren't forced into kid form

something that I noticed hasn't been mentioned here: while obviously a crab tank that gets used to beat an ink vac wins because it just fills the entire thing and straight up shreds the player right after, you can also use an ink vac to beat a crab tank that has been out already. so I feel like ink vac loses when it's the first thing to be used but when timed right it can still "counter" more specials. as in "cutting deep into the usefulness of other specials and then I have a counter attack" and I like the team saves you can get from straight up sucking up reefslider explosions, booyah bombs, or other ink vac shots. still wish it were better... I feel a little stuck with that thing
