Hello Ryan think im going to go for a t38. What outboard do you recommend between the yahama 20 or 9.9. also do you have any experience with honda engines thanks 👍
Hello! It all depends the 9.9 is perfect for no more than 2 adults when you start adding weight the 9.9 won’t cut the mustard! If I was you I would purchase the tohatsu 20hp and your done!! it’s the lightest in the market and is a cracking engine it has a different operation set up compared to the tohatsu 9.8!! my first outboard was an old Honda 9.9 that I absolutely loved however Honda engines are heavy and awkward.
You need minimum 1hp for every 90lbs (or 40kg) weight. That's the minimum, I recommend you get more than that. Honwave t38 + 9.8hp + 3gallon tank + anchor, bags = 300lbs (or 130kg) 90lbs x 9.8hp=900lbs In theory , you can carry up to 600lbs passengers and stuff. That makes 3 adults maximum... On a choppy day, 2 adults maximum.
@@ryanferris7841 interesting , i have an recent MFS 20 and def not like that, maybe 9.8 is different, even though all 3 model were the same, just ECU and air intake different . mmh,
@@deaffatalbruno the 9.8 is completely different mate, it’s a lot lighter than the others mentioned! My cousin has the 20 and it’s a different animal altogether
Yamaha! Worked for a company that used tohatsu's on there boats.I dont care what they say about Honda parts in them and what not they all sucked especially the 40hp. Yamaha 9.9 has one problem the fuel line rubs creating thin spots.
@@ryanferris7841 put the motor in and out of gear look for moving parts. One part moves right on the fuel line so after about 150hr I had a fuel leak. Motor has 500+hours now and that was the only thing so far to break. 5min $20 fuel line.

is that an older version of the Tohatsu? the current MFS10/15/20 have fixed a lot of these issues.
It’s the msf9.8 it’s still in production and still the same I believe! Perhaps the 10/15/20 are different 🤷♂️
