In 1974, I was 16 years old. I worked a new years eve Black Oak Arkansas concert as a stagehand. The energy that the Black Oak Arkansas gave to the audience is unmatched.
Underrated 70's band that isn't talked about enough or ever for that matter. Don't think I've ever seen someone make a review on a single track from BOA, nor have I ever met another person other than my dad who knows who they are. Cool stuff.
One of my favorite BOA tracks, thanks for helping spread the word. BTW, at end of the dialogue, where you hear the water pouring, that's one of the band members taking a leak in an ashtray.
Instant subscribe and notifications! I used to have a BOA t-shirt that I would wear to school all the time in the 80s. Had a school librarian that was Pentecostal; she would have a fit every time she saw me with that shirt. 😅🤣😅🤣
Witnessing someone's first reaction to BOA is priceless. Been a BOA fan for decades and their first album still holds up to this day. If you have the chance, check out the tune "To Make Us What We Are" off the the album If An Angel Came To See You, Would You Make Her Feel At Home album. Great video!
“Jumped in bed with my ma and pa and told them the Devil was in Arkansas.” Uncle Elijah....same album. Great story that happens to be true. Uncle Elijah lived to be 105! Check it out!
OMG- I was so excited to see you doing a reaction on BOA!!! I saw them in concert and it was amazing!! Very underrated Southern Rock band from the early 70’s.Check out Hot n Nasty When Electricity came to Arkansas, and Jim Dandy!
@@desireestevens hey Desiree! ♥️ Hope you are well..Thanx for checking in..Jim.Dandy was quite the dude..I pulled up recent interview with him..He looked pretty good and was very sharp..David Lee Roth was smart to take a little of that macho look from him. @@markdraine3571 I’m 65 and saw them open for Black Sabbath in 1972 and Humble Pie in 1973. Caught every tour after that in the NYC/NJ/Philly area. Electrifying on stage. Am still a huge fan. I am subscribed to a few BOA fan Facebook groups. Got to meet Jim Dandy in the early 90’s after a club performance in NJ...he was so gracious. Pathetic how this band is so underrated. They ARE the Godfathers of southern rock, NOT Skynyrd.
Im a huge fan, seen them live several times and met Jim Dandy. He is a wonderful, down to earth, man.Youve got to hear Uncle Lijah. Its about one of the band members,105 year old uncle. The lyrics are full of early blues, crossroads, symbolism.
Best live band... EVER ! And the best live album money can buy too ! Check out Raunch and Roll. Black Oak Arkansas at their finest. The crazy antics of showman Jim Dandy.. the insane mayhem of 3 guitarists supported by one solid bass player.. and the absolutely amazing drumming of none other the Tommy Aldridge, now drummer for Whitesnake.
FI-NALLY! Someone reacts to BOA. This is deep song from a unique and vastly overlooked Southern Rock and early Heavy Metal band. A few BOA fun facts: The band that started the "3 guitar attack that other Southern Rock bands adopted even before Skynyrd did. Started their own incorporated city in the Ozarks and even had their own post office. Were the highest grossing touring band in 1972 by playing over 300 years while Zeppelin, Stones etc playedaround 50 per year. David Lee Roth credits the great Jim Dandy Mangrum to his stage presence..The band was almost always comprised of the best musicians there are around Memphis and surrounding areas. And if you know Jim you can sometimes find him checking out local talent on Beale and Lafayettes on Madison He is one if the most down to earth guys you'll ever meet

Out of this world in concert, BOA Uncle Elijah, their "Greatest Hits" CD is a great own for most of their hits; On first album, " Memories At The Window" real heart grabber.
This was the song that turned me onto this band - a band from the Deep South taking the p out of religion (that's how I took it) and having a ball. Next song I listened to was 'When Electricity...' and 'Uncle 'lijah' I was sold on them from that moment. A really compelling story with these guys, as well. A very competent band, but for me it is the singer and the bass player who really lift the band and the singer gives them a unique sound. I also think he can really sing. Their latest, 'Underdog Heroes' is right in the groove and please buy the CD off the band website - i-tunes and Spotify make musicians starve. Thanks TNT for the review and the comments.
The ‘MELODIC’ sound of early rock as well as the rhythm. A flowing blended sound. The Original 1st Black Oak album another later album that would be a good read is anything off the ‘High on the Hog’ album.
It's funny how many people call BOA a one-hit wonder. All they know is Jim Dandy To The Rescue, usually the version with Ruby Starr. They performed that on The Midnight Special, which I watched almost every week in high school.
Thanks T. Black Oak Arkansas isn't heard as much as it should be. Try Hot and Nasty. The theme of sex, drugs, and rock and roll come out in many songs from the era. Jim Dandy (lead singer) was something I'm guessing David Lee Roth patterned himself after.
@@SammybseauphineofboaJim Dandy Mangrum is a national treasure. He just abides like The Dude from The Big Labowski. He still loves to perform and after all these years, like Rob Halford, still has his voice. He's a kind, good person.
So… very impressed you listened to the notorious BOA. There was nothing remotely like them. A crazed combination of evangelical imagery & crazed sexuality permeates their catalog. To understand the ESSENCE of BOA you must view their live concert footage. With only one song(Jim Dandy) breaking into the top twenty, they were a best selling live act through the 1970s on the strength of what they brought to the stage.
my favorite Black Oak song is the live version of "Gettin' Kinda Cocky". Awesome energy. As for singer Jim Dandy, whenever I hear him I thing of the Beverly Hillbillies and Jed Clampett.

Black Oak Arkansas was an opening band for Alice Cooper in New Orleans back around 1974/75 (they were much better than Alice Cooper) Ruby Starr came out on stage with a very short skirt and no panties, hehe I got my ass up close to the stage!
That old school rock & roll rhythm you like, came from your black American ancestors. God Bless America for This infusion. Without it, Our Great Country would be pretty boring. The American Melting Pot Stew would be really Bland to say the least.
i'm 65. i notice on y/t a lot of black people, and rapper or hip hoppers, reacting to the music of my hippy youth. i wonder why this sudden, growing trend? it must be mix of reasons. high monetization value is probably one. but the reactions i'm witnessing in videos like this one, are always fantastic. in fact, that means a lot to me. i wish more black people had found a way to experience all of it before now. where did you all go for so long? that music had consciousness and shaped lives. i hear stuff about a race war building up in this country. if that means white v black, then you guys keep reacting to this music so we can overcome such stupidity? please. this music unites. let's ride with its spirit together instead of treating each other like enemies. i'm a bit appalled when i see rocking amazement in reactions. i want to say, "yeah ya dummy, where have you been all this time?" but mostly i feel almost in tears and want to say to you all, "thank you." i'm 65 now and those days are long gone. but the music lives on. please react to it because you can't get enough of it. and maybe to prevent war. oh, and, welcome to rock and roll.
Thank you for this comment. For the most part because of TH-cam and the music reaction community many black people are discovering genres of music that they never heard before. For example most black people grow up listening to hip hop, pop and r&b. They never played Cash, Van Halen, kiss and so many other great rock artist on the radio station or mtv.
One of my favorite bands back in the day.
Black oak should be in the hall of fame
The energy of this song is OFF the scales!! I’m 66 and still rock out to this song!
For many of us Arkansans, Black Oak was OUR Beatles. Which their music became known to many of us as Rockabilly. 😅
