The British have always appreciated him for his work on Blackadder, Jeeves & Wooster and A Bit of Fry and Laurie. It's mostly Americans who didn't know him before House, which is unfortunate, but understandable.
Correct in that Americans for the most part are not familiar w/ BBC offerings. In fact, many here I've heard complain they don't "get" British humour, which is sad really, likely because it is subtle, based on irony, not slapstick or bathroom humour.
Because most of the time the Emmy vote committee can be idiots lol. A lot of quality shows or actors are ignored because of politics or just plain foolishness.
also how better call Saul 0 Emmy's but breaking bad won like 15. that's also part of the reason, since it was very hard to compete with breaking bad when it comes to emmy's
Still no Idea why they haven't gave him the Emmy. He have been doing such a wonderful job in the past years on the show, that I believe they are blind.
lol his therapist. Hugh, you really gotta give yourself more credit for your good work, because really, you do deserve all the recognition you're getting. (I'd even go as far as to say you actually deserve more; STILL CAN'T GET OVER THE FACT THAT YOU WERE ROBBED AT THE EMMY'S EVERY YEAR.)
The Emmys have a long, proven track record of being "bought" out by the studios (the bigger the studio and the more people working on their shows, the more Emmy voters).
It makes me really happy to see that James Spader doesn't look grim or forced, while the other nominees pull rather upset faces. As I am a huge fan of of Laurie, I also really like Spader and it makes me feel better to think that he is not petty.
Give me a break-- that just what Gandolfini looks like for god's sake. Anyone watch the Sopranos? He nodded in approval, clapped-- and did not have Hugh Laurie killed. That's as supportive as he gets.
We Canadians love him to bits ever since his College days. We always saw British comedy on CBC. In the early days it waa like PBS so we saw film from all over the British Empire.
"now you're pretending that he is yours" What the hell do you mean by this?! he IS british. so he will forever be Britain's and proud to be British. He works in America, he lives in America for the time he works on House, and both sides share his talent and appreciate it. But please watch it when you are saying that the british are "pretending" that he is theirs.
After seeing Dexter's expression at 2:54 , I'm amazed that he allowed House to finish the whole series alive... Well, I suppose Dex didn't find enough solid evidence to fit House in "Harry's Code"!! :D And on seriousness, both Hugh Lauries and Michael C Hall really did phenomenal job to make each of their complex Characters memorable to us... Bravo to both.
Thoroughly agree with you, they did splendid works & I'm a huge fan of both both of them. And/but, since that I've been a tremendous fan of Hugh & fascinated by him for a way too longer tenure, since late '80s, for his outstanding performances in shows like "Blackadder", "Bit of Fry & Laurie", "Jeeves & Wooster" & sorts, I'm actually happier that Hugh Laurie won. Personally, in case I've to *compare* -Michael C Hall is yet to portray his *versatility* like Hugh Laurie has done so far over several decades. Cheers.
Gandolfini looked like he swallowed a lemon. Hugh Laurie is always great at award shows and on interviews, so humble despite being incredibly accomplished in many realms. He is so real ans i love him all the more for being so.
@pickle61790 Hey, thanks! That explains it. ;-) Even funnier now! Knowing how humble Mr. Hugh Laurie is I found the joke a bit "too straight-forward" (meaning: the man would never speak highly of himself, even in a laughing manner!), but if he refers to Eddie Murphy's comment, then it makes perfect sense. All in all, I'm stunned once again. *LOVE* Hugh Laurie's acceptance speeches! He should do more of them! :-P
actually i think james was just making fun doing that look, he wasnt serious (just oberserve when hugh laurie wins he bow with his head and start applauding)
Why are you getting irritated by it? We aren't insulting Americas by saying that it's strange to hear Hugh speaking in a foreign accent. If anything we applaud Hugh for his success in what's now two different countries (well more..) It's just the same as Americans saying it's strange to hear Hugh using his own accent on Blackadder videos or Robert Pattinson using his own accent in interviews. And we're not 'claiming' Hugh.. it's just we hold him as a national treasure.
No offense to all those other phenomenal actors, but for me there was no other choice in this category. Only if they had Michael Chiklis for The Shield then that'd be toss up.
Just to add coal to the fire.. We in Britain aren't trying to be offensive when we say Hugh Laurie is ours. We're just proud that he is :) Americans should be proud of the successful stars they've spawned too, even more so if they make it in Britain. It's not a possessive thing, it's patriotic!
After watching The Whole series House 4 times I have to say hugh desevred every award he got for this show he was incredible
Woah really 4 times
@@Am0ha yes I watched the whole show 4 times
Honestly, he's the only one who could stop James Spader
@@sarizonana I’m on the way to finish it for the 2nd time and I’m already thinking I’m going for a third time

Gregory House and Michael Scott shaking hands is a dream come true.
i agree xD
I remember gregory saying “that’s what she said”

Love the fact that Hugh never misses an opportunity to flex his comic muscles! lol! Love Hugh!
"To chance - thank you." That's something you don't hear a lot on acceptance speeches. But he's right: chance does matter. Or fate...
How did he not won an Emmy for this role? The show really wouldn't be worth watching for more than a few episodes if it weren't for him.
he did tho
@@gabrielaazevedo9491 As far as I know, he actually was a nominee for multiple times but he never has won.

It is obvious that Hugh has to win.
He really knows how to handle their role.
And knows how to handle other roles.
It's a great actor.
And beautiful!
Can we all take a moment to appreciate James Spader's reaction? So wholesome!
My thought exactly.
Still no Idea why they haven't gave him the Emmy. He have been doing such a wonderful job in the past years on the show, that I believe they are blind.
STEVE CARELL PRESENTING HUGH LAURIE'S AWARD is just amazing
i love them both :)
wow two of my favorites actors shaking hands
Fact that all 3 series mentioned are exceptional and worth a watch is amazing to see!

i love the House theme music
Man, it's so great to see Dr House, Dexter and Tony S all under the same roof.
All you need is Adrian Monk, Vic Mackey and Michael Westen to complete it :)
Hall (Dexter) has that look when Laurie walks up to the stage, "I am coming for you tonight...."
It makes me really happy to see that James Spader doesn't look grim or forced, while the other nominees pull rather upset faces.

Gandolfini looked like this at every single awards show, he hated this stuff...also love Hugh bud Gandolfini deserved it lol
such a great speech!! thanking chance....wow...neat one!!

"Meh he is nothing special."
2:55
"I will kill him..."
Gondolfini with his Tony face hahaha ❤️
I think the same. I mean, he was clapping and he had one already one SAG award before.
I think we're being a bit harsh on Gandolfini. His face wasn't bitter. It was a look of resignation like, "Yeah, yeah, fair enough."
'im british, by the way, which accounts for why im so smoooth'
so funny
yeah!!
I love Serial Dr House
It was the zenith of TV indeed

It’s funny that this award was for a drama series but they show one of the funniest scenes fro House (IMO). 😂
its so weird to hear his accent, now I will always try to pick it out on the show

The actor goes to Hugh Laurie... ?
The prize is a small statue of an actor, you see it in his hand.
Hugh Laurie deserves the award. Like the Sopranos but James Gandolfini should get a life and except that this man is a better actor

@bugsymafiaangel Oh, you mean the way they ALWAYS pick English actors to play English characters??
ahahahahahahha that would have been great!
Sort of feel sorry for Kiefer every year every award been beaten by a Brit being an American
He is Canadian
kiefer sutherland should of won that
Who gives a shit about Gandolfini. He is a good actor but Hugh Laurie deserves to win. Be happy for other people Gandolfini or get a life
