Funny Rolling Stones story. A friend of my father’s flew a seaplane in NY’s Adirondacks serving camps, stocking fish for the state. Once he had a group to be flown to a camp-four guys with a British accents. At one point in the short flight, the pilot asked what they did. “Play guitars”. “Any money in that?” “Some” was the replay. He gets back to his base in Long Lake, NY. Son, wide-eyed, asks, “Dad, do you know who they were”. “Nope”. The Rolling Stones

I was there on 17 October 1973 for both concerts at Vorst National in Brussels (Brussels Affair) Billy Preston on keyboards, Mick Taylor on lead and slide, Steve Madaio on trumpet, Trevor Lawrence on saxophone (Bobby Keys had been let go)…..the Stones at their peak…..the band was cooking and yes….Angie was outstanding live 😎🥂

I remember a good concert in the eighties though. I've seen them maybe some ten times. Some people have been following the The Stones all over the world. I can't understand that.

All that makes sense. But also listen very carefully as Mick uses a clever, yet subtle, phonetic trick when he says "Andy" about 7 times throughout the song, Referencing his relationship with Andy Warhol. "Angie, Andy, I still love you..." "Andy, you're beautiful."..... "Angie, Andy ain't it time we said goodbye" Andy, I still love you baby, everywhere I look, I see your eyes, there ain't a woman that comes close to you" ' But Angie, Andy aint' it good to be alive" "Angie, Andy, you can't say we never tried"

I think the song is about a German girl, named Angela. I knew her in 1975 when she lived in Frankfurt. I went to her apartment where she showed me a photo album of the Rolling Stones and other rock stars of the day. Billy Preston is one who comes to mind and it seems like Bowie and others as well.. She also had a glass display case that was filled with items that had been given to her by Jagger and the Rolling Stones. I remember a derby hat and a gold cane but there were many other tings, clothes, etc. They were all stage props from shows. I have also read somewhere that before performing the song "Angie" at a concert in Berlin, Jagger stated that the song was about a German girl. The girl I knew had been their drug supplier and had been to prison over it. The lyrics fit very much with the Angie that I knew. She was a very attractive diminutive German girl with short black hair. I have a picture of her somewhere.

My brother believed the song was for Andy Warhol. Sometimes Mick sang “Andy” in the song, like in “Andy…there’s not a woman who comes close to you”. Jagger and Warhol had known each other and Mick might well have loved Andy and called him “Angie” . Anyway it made sense to me.

The fact it is not important to know if Angie is real or not. I fail to understand why so many people want to know about it. Songs are written for us listeners. And we can interpreter it the way we feel.
A person can simply sing it for a friend called Angie...and that is all. It could about drugs? Maybe, thought it didn't seem to be for me. It could be for an angel? Yes, it could. So what? It could also be for David Bowie! As homophobia abounds, they decided to use the name of his wife. LOL It doesn't matter if the song is mostly by Keith, because here we are talking about lyrics. And Mick added lyrics.
What really matters is: it is a fantastic song. Wonderful.

How about this, there is a famous British acoustic folk song from the early 60’ with the same title the name ANGIE, or ANJI..it is an instrumental, it was written by British guitarist BERT JANCSH and even covered by Simon & Garfunkel on one of their earlier albums. It is a totally different song from the Stones , ANGIE but It does have a similar minor key acoustic feel I always thought KEITH RICHARDS may have had that old title in his mind when he started writing his ANGIE and took it as a starting point. This is just speculation, the JAGGER-RICHARDS song is fantastic.and original, ESPECIALLY KEITHS MUSIC AND MELODY.

Bert learned it from Davey Graham, who wrote it.

Tom Petty also wrote a song about his drug use. The song played on MTV some lyrics are Don't come around here no more. I've given up. Stop. Ive given up on this love getting stronger. He was using back then and decided to stop. I wish I could remember the title of this song. The MTV video to it is Alice In Wonderland.

Heard all this through decades.. Still don't know and don't care.. It's about the end of a relationship with no money on their coats and no loving in their souls.. As usual, one thing leaves to the other.. The song himself was good in late 70's and 80's to disco slows with chicks..! Good times

When Mike married Blanca (Mick Jagger and Bianca Jagger), Blanca was still a high school student or had just finished high school at Saint Mary's Convent in Ascot where Princess Caroline of Monaco also studied. She wasn't yet the Jet Setter, she was a daughter of a rich family from Nicaragua's President Anastasio Somoza, after the marriage in France it is when Mick and Bianca became the socialites of the 70's

If RichRds wrote the lyrics then the song is about Anita Pallenburg. The references are about a person he is involved with and can see that they are growing apart..that it is just no good going forward. He was changing and she wasnt..by 78 Richard's gave up the wild life in all but name..as it was good for his business. Settling down to become a gentleman Gardener with a new wife. He walked before they made him run.

I think the Keith Richards partner and mother of kids is the most plausible one. Next most likely is the one about the name of his daughter.

Nick named Angie ...can not count how many times in the 70s I got this song by the rolling stones sung into my face. So much so that it turned over the years from sentimental to almost haltered towards this song ..any other Angie's out there feel the same?

Well, for me, as an Angie, it is difficult to hear because Mick sounds like he is in so much pain. I understand this is how the song was written to be. Love the Stones.

Since a child, my mother claimed this song for me and yeah my name is Angie. But, I have the opposite feelings about the song.
